Very friendly helpful staff, great location, good dinner

Lovely location and interesting building
Nothing to dislike
Excellent location, great room, really comfortable and well appointed. Good parking The evening menu is limited but it’s all very good and well Presented.
It was all good. It would be nice if breakfast was included in the rate.
The location was excellent, the staff friendly and the rooms newly decorated . My only complaint was that the water was not hot in the shower and I feel that providing hot water is a basic requirement.
Good location
Shower was useless. No pressure and just dribbled
The Highlights Location & Views: Outstanding scenery—waking up to the view was easily the best part of the stay. Ambience: The decor is charming, tasteful, and well-maintained throughout the public spaces. Breakfast: The quality of the food at breakfast was genuinely impressive, cooked well with good ingredients.
Room Quality: The room was notably cramped. Worse, attention to detail in cleaning was lacking—there was visible mould around the shower and a faint stain on the bedsheets. High Costs: At £150 a night for a room only, it felt overpriced. Tacking on an extra £15 per person for breakfast pushes the cost too far for what is offered. Bar Prices: The steep pricing carries straight into the pub. A double G&T, a pint of cider, and a single packet of crisps came out to over £20. Strict Kitchen Hours: The strict 8:00 PM cut-off for food service is restrictive for a leisure stay and adds unnecessary frustration to the evening.
Location by the water
The room was very narrow. The window didn’t fully open. Too many narrow stairs to our room on the third floor. Not good value for money
A decent size room for a long weekend. Plenty of wardrobe space. Great to see proper coffee. Real, ground coffee and a cafetiere. With proper milk in the fridge outside the room too.
Would have preferred a bigger bed. A king size would have been more comfortable. Some mold build up in the shower too could have been treated
Great location, good food and comfortable bedroom
A little noisy but it is a pub
It was not well suited to someone who has mobility problems
Good breakfast, location was good
A bit noisy in the mornings
Very nice location by the river. Considerate stall and comfortable and quiet room.
A beautiful room, lovely outlook, very comfortable, and the place is in a beautiful, quiet area with lovely views of the river.
It’s in a good position and had all the necessary facilities you would expect for the price
Room a tad small but ok for 1
Great room, great food, great location by the river and lovely, friendly and helpful staff
Nothing
Location was perfect for event in Totnes, booked at last minute. Staff helpful at all times. Food delicious at dinner on our first night and both breakfasts. The most tender steak ever. Room amply supplied with tea/coffee and delicious homemade biscuits. Spacious shower within the bathroom. No bright lights shining in room which so often happens. Comfortable bed.
Access to bed in room 1 was a little tight but otherwise room, hallway and bathroom spacious and accessible. Room 1 is on second floor.
Nice view of the river
Food was mediocre. Sea gulls are a pest. Wouldn't let us in nearly.
Location was lovely - right on the river. The building itself was quirky and lots of buzz. Perfect for a pre-wedding drink with everyone on the terrace. All staff were excelled.
For the bedroom and bathroom - they were a bit cramped and noisy- we were at tge back of the pub and were woken up every day with lorry deliveries and rubbish collection.
Great place yo drsy. Fantastic room.

Lovely location by the River Dart. Room bright, clean and comfortable. Very friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast delicious. Would certainly stay again.
The arena and the staff are good

Fantastic staff and service. Great location, big rooms. clean and nice.
The lovely lady staff member was so genuinely helpful, you can tell she loves her job. The location is beautiful and an 8 min walk to the town.

Nulla
Lived up to the old inn we expect. Good food and atmosphere in an excellent location we wanted The river location was a bonus
The stairs but what could you expect in a building of that age.
Lovely location on the river. Superb bathroom and spacious bedroom with huge bed. Busy pub but my room was around back of the property so was nice and quiet. Arrived in the morning but they happily let me stow my case until the 3pm check in so that I could go and explore the town - same when I checked out. 15 mun walk to train station
The fan in the room wasn't very effective but thankfully the room wasn't too warm despite the outside temp.
Lovely location, very friendly staff and very good room.
Great location and room was superb
We often travel around and found The Steam Packet very good. Perfect location, lovely helpful staff.
The coffee making facilities were in an odd location (the wardrobe door when open kept getting in the way!). Plus lack of a small fridge within the room. Perhaps a reconfiguring of the wardrobe (take a door off and put a small fridge within the same space?.
Lovely pub short walk to town. Great food and staff. Plenty of parking.
Lovely location on the river. Extremely comfortable and quiet rooms. Delicious breakfast.
Nothing.
Location, friendly young staff, great atmosphere on the terrace, good food
Room wasn’t clean - hairs on bed linen and room tiny, photos exaggerated its size so felt misled. Really hot and no fan provided
Absolute gem of a hotel. The location on the water js so lovely, breakfast is delicious and rooms are very cosy. But the highlight of the stay was really the man who I believe was the manager. Our van had broken down and he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
Absolutely nothing
On the river
The stairs and no one to help with luggage
Our room was very special. Bath in the bedroom which was a nice touch, huge bathroom, comfy bed, gorgeous baked cookies, plenty of tea/coffee and air con keeping the room cool as it was so hot when we visited. We ate at the pub and the food was gorgeous. Staff were all very attentive and looked after us.
Nothing, it was all perfect
Excellent service and room was immaculate
View over river .. proximity to walks and Main Street
Narrow staircase with large bags .. but c’est la vie !
Excellent room, great breakfast, brilliant location, very friendly staff
Brilliant location, with car parking for the complete stay. Because it’s an old building, there are no lifts, but plenty of stairs. River view from our large and extended Bedroom with large Bathroom having walk in Shower
Staff very helpful knowledgeable polite. Location was good. Food good. Beer good. Very clean and tidy.
Our bed was up against the wall with very little room to access it from other side too. Due to this there was no bed side cabinet so no where to put your glasses etc, also not good when you have to climb over you partner to get in or out of bed, not something you would expect for the cost of the room only. Would I stay there again YES but not in that room.
All lovely
Nothing
The rooms are delightful; comfortable, clean, and a fantastic walk in shower that makes for a safe bathing experience. The views of the river from the excellent restaurant are great. The food for breakfast and dinner was wonderful; some of the best meals I ate in the UK. I was really pleased with the friendly and competent staff. Surprisingly, although above a bar and restaurant, none of that noise filters into the room. And a special added treat -- fresh baked cookies at night and little jugs of milk in the fridge for coffee -- rather than nasty powdered milk. Little details like that make it a truly memorable visit. Great jump off point for a trip to Dartmouth or just a pleasant weekend getaway. There are just 6 rooms, so everyone knows you are there and they make you feel like you belong and are welcomed.
No lift, but that is not a trauma since the staff is more than willing to take your bags to the room -- I did not even have to ask.
Room was great, good size, comfortable bed and lovely decor and modern bathroom with separate shower.
Minor point : Squeaky wardrobe doors that swung open and hit bathroom door frame with a clunk!
The room was spotless, very nice and clean and shower/toilet area also very clean
more sugar for making tea in the room
Great location on riverside. Close to town. Great food. Friendly staff.
Would be nice if breakfast was included in the room rate.
all of it amazing find.
Lovely view at dinner, great food , good location for town
Great room, friendly and helpful staff

Room
Wonderfully spacious and clean room, well laid out. All the facilities you need, fresh, cold milk available for the tea and coffee which makes a refreshing change from little pods of uht milk which are not so pleasant. Staff were all really pleasant, happy to help, showed us to the room and explained everything to us. Food was very good, served hot! One of the best stays, for the money we paid, that we’ve ever had.
If I’m picky and need to find something. I’d say the shower wasn’t very powerful.
Location
Nothing really
Noisy from floor above
Excellent facilities and staff
Parking
Staff were lovely, went out of there way to help and made us feel very welcome.
There was nothing not to like, excellent find, will be back.
Great location, lovely old pub and beautifully decorated clean room and bathroom
Not many rooms so parking easy . A bonus in Totnes ! Only a 3 to 4 minute pleasant stroll to the bottom of the high street . Comfy beds . very spacious bathroom . Staff were all very friendly and helpful , in a nice and comfortable bar area . £15 breakfast was really great ! Would definitely stay again if in Totnes .
The bedroom was gorgeous - clean and comfortable. The shower was amazing!! The location was great and the staff were really welcoming. Would definitely go back
If I really had to be pushed… the carpark was small. But I think that was because the place was so popular.
The location and the amazing staff, comfortable room.
We were on the top floor and my mum had trouble getting upstairs. However this was my error as I didn’t think to say she has a disability. We managed though thanks to the staff assisting with our luggage. Very helpful.
One of the friendliest and most comfortable inns I have ever stayed in. The location was excellent The food was as delicious and the staff could not have been more helpfull . Thank you!
Location, riverside terrace and comfortable room
Five minutes from main shopping street. Great location next to river with Large outside seating area and lots of space indoors. Food well prepared fresh ingredients; great beers: friendly helpful staff
Can’t think of anything
Room was very modern and comfy. Had a meal in evening was excellent and very good value. Excellent wi fi and as travelling for work made sending e mails in the evening much easier
Super friendly stuff, exceptionally clean room, loads of careful and considerate touches including real coffee! The most comfortable bed and the best night sleep added in made me feel really grateful I found this place!
Nothing-all great!

Amazingly friendly staff, great rooms and amazing food!

Great food and nice room. Unfortunately there was a plumbing issue above our room, but the staff dealt with it very calmly and professionally.

Great location riverside views
Thin duvet
Lovely room in a quiet location. We had dinner in the restaurant - very good. They had a water leak, that evening, which meant no hot water available. They gave us a complimentary breakfast to make up for it - also very good. Staff super friendly and attentive.
Fantastic accommodation
The stairs!
Lovely, spacious room; well decorated,; with large bathroom (huge bath and separate shower); very comfortable bed; great WiFi; large tv; extra touches like the scrummy home made gingerbread biscuit and fridge with real milk for tea/ coffee. Delicious steak dinner, helpful staff, and freshly cooked to order breakfast - can’t fault this hotel on room facilities, cleanliness, food quality, location, or staff helpfulness. It wasn’t the cheapest, but you get what you pay for - I will certainly be back 😊
Nothing
Very clean and comfortable
Nice relaxing stay at a friendly pub
Breakfast lacked variety.would have liked fresh juice and more cereal variety.
Coffee too liquorishy.poached egg on toast should have 2 slices of toast and garnish
Charming room
Heating - despite unseasonal warmth on Wednesday, the room was quite cold. Bathroom a bit smelly.
Everything, but the wonderful, friendly, and helpful staff are to be noted especially.
Having to leave! Seriously it could not have been improved on.
The rooms were well equipped and beautifully decorated!
