Le service dans l'hôtel et à la restauration était plutôt lent

It’s in a big park with a pool, trees and animals. Close to Kallady Bridge and to the beach. The houses are very well designed and practical.

The restaurant had very long waiting times (more than 1 hour if not ordered in advance) and mixed up orders.

Nice and very spacious build houses. Lots of space around the accommodation. Nice pool with sunbeds and pooltowels. The restaurant is good. The model-train was a nice surprise, interesting and impressive. Friendly (and lots of) staff. We did the singing fish tour, recommend it. We stayed an extra night.

The only thing is that the road to the location is a bit wobbly.

Wo soll ich anfangen… wir reisten einen Tag früher ab (nach der ersten Nacht), aber von vorne: Wir kamen an und hatten ein Zimmer gebucht ohne Klimaanlage (unser Fehler). Wir fragten für ein Upgrade (gegen Aufpreis) und bekamen ein Zimmer mit Klimaanlage. Das Zimmer war nicht Sauber (Sand am Boden, Wurm in der Dusche, muffiges Zimmer). Als ich das Upgrade bezahlen gehen wollte, war es den 2 Herren in der Rezeption zu viel von ihrem Handy abzulassen und die Kritik an der Sauberkeit und der Zahlung anzunehmen. Ich ging dann wieder, da ich die Herren nicht am Scollen stören wollte. Dann war direkt neben dem Zimmer eine Geburtstagsparty mit sehr lauter Musik bis 23:00 Uhr. Kein Resortgefühl.

LOCATION and the breakfast was good

I think they must’ve had a complete staff transplant since previous reviews. I felt like we were a real inconvenience. The rooms weren’t cleaned or towels replaced once in 4 days. The restaurant completely overcooked the beautiful seafood to the point I couldn’t eat it. The sun beds were hard and uncomfortable, no pads on them. The shower wasn’t strong enough to wash the sand off. There was no wifi the whole time we were there and consequently we had to pay them cash, which meant a trip to the ATM before checking out.

Lots of trees and bird life in a great location on the edge of the lagoon.  The pool could be lovely if it were better maintained.

Like Batticaloa itself, this place has lots of potential but needs someone to give it a thorough overhaul. We were disappointed with the quality of the facilities: broken pool tiles, littered grounds, etc. We stayed in the two bedroom house, which needs serious renovation and cleaning. Other residential units seem to be more modern and better maintained. After disappointing food and service in the on site restaurant, we went elsewhere. Soull Kitchen near the beach was excellent.

Mooie plek dichtbij de stad. Slechts een paar minuten met de tuktuk. Daarnaast is er ook een erg fijn restaurant bij het verblijf.

Es mag dort andere Zimmer geben, aber unseres war ein umgebauter, alter, verdreckter Frachtcontainer, der einfach nur heruntergekommen, kaputt und abgewohnt war.

Leaving. It was a great relief.

The house we booked, with two bedrooms for our family, was not available when we arrived. They had given it to someone else. We stayed one night because it was getting too late to organize an alternative place to stay. There was no reception staff on duty to help, only the new owner whose only concern was how much he might be able to charge us. He didn’t tell the staff working in the morning the price that we had agreed. The lagoon is full of crocodiles.

We had the absolute pleasure of staying in one of the new luxury cabins and it was a real joy! Incredibly comfortable beds, beautifully decorated, very spacious and spotlessly clean - we really loved it and didn’t want to leave! There are several different standards of accommodation which are quite different from each other, but they are all in the beautiful lagoon setting surrounded by nature. The pool (though in need of a bit of TLC) was a lovely addition and in a beautiful setting, we really enjoyed having this option and used several times during our stay. Riviera Resort has been one of the highlights of our trip so far!

This hotel in Batticaloa was a very pleasant surprise. The room was perfect for our family of 5: we had a villa for 4 with a sofa bed, and there was ample space. The shower was great and there was a water boiler with tea and coffee in the room. Reception and service were extremely kind and helpful. I can only recommend this place. Wish we could have stayed longer.

The resort itself is very beautiful. We had delicious meals, although had very long waits but that's ok as we were on holiday. Its good for a short stay. The grounds had beautiful views of the lagoon

The room is quite small and the bathrooms weren't not very clean and really need to be renovated. However it was ok for a one night stay.

Ich hatte ein schönes, neues, grosses Zimmer (im Haus nahe der Rezeption). Es war sauber, einzig das Fenster ist sehr hoch eingebaut, dass man nur die Palmwedel sehen kann. Ich blieb statt einer Nacht dann zwei Nächte, da es mir gefallen hat. Der Pool und der Garten laden zum relaxen ein. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und das Restaurant kann ich sehr empfehlen.

Ich kann die negativen Bewertungen nicht ganz verstehen. Meine Erfahrung war gut, aber ich kann nur mein Zimmer bewerten.

Det bästa med boendet är maten. Restaurangen skulle jag ge toppbetyg - om man bortser från att allt måste beställas minst en timme i förväg.

Vid ombyggnation har man valt att smälla upp containerrum. Det må vara praktiskt och säkert billigt att bygga, men det är fult. Även restaurangen hade kunnat byggas för att harmoniera med de ursprungliga byggnaderna. Tyvärr har stället istället förlorat sin charm.

Es ist sehr schmuddelig. Die Tische kleben, die Tischdeckchen sind klebrig, mein Glas war schmutzig. Mein Kontainer Stelzenhaus hatte Schimmel im Bad, es roch nach Schimmel. Die Kornflakes waren alt, das Essen schmeckte fad.

The check-in was quick and easy. Moreover, the whole staff - especially the manager - was very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small, but okay for sleeping. We stayed in a hut with a communal "living room area" incl. sofas that made a pleasant stay. There are different kinds of rooms / accommodation available at this resort. A lot of them have a porch with a view to the lagoon. We absolutely loved the huge pool surrounded by palm trees and with good views of the lagoon. Watching the sunset from the pool is amazing! Additionally, there is a big modern restaurant with a wide range of food and drinks on offer. We really enjoyed the fresh juices and tasty dinner. - Some reviews refer to the long period to prepare the food (1.5 hours). As all food is freshly prepared, it takes some time. Our dinner was ready in a shorter period of time. An option might be to preorder your food.

The only negative aspect was the lack of wifi. It is available in the reception and the restaurant. The manager promised that someone will install a router in our hut. But this did not happen.

I needed to do an emergency booking after my initial "resort" did not honor a reservation. This spot gets mediocre reviews, but I found it great value for money. I "upgraded" to an a/c bungalow, which is a small container but well formed and outfitted. Excellent for a night or two. I "splurged" on the crab curry in the restaurant, and it was excellent. Great value for money all around. My 5am tuk-tuk to the train station was ordered and waiting.

The "resort" is sprawling and the accommodation types can be confusing. You can easily walk to the beach, but the sunset over the lagoon and the bridge is special.

Die Lage ist wunderschön und ruhig gelegen. Die Außenanlagen herrlich und so schön grün. Uns hat es wirklich gut gefallen und wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen.

Nice coconut farm right on the lagoon with rooms and huts spaced in the tropical grounds. Perfect location, shops 10-15 minute walk, beach 20 minutes. Stayed in wooden hut, great bed, excellent mosquito net and has on site restaurant bar with wide menu.

They were building 2 new huts next to me and building works with angle grinders and drill all day, but i was out all day, so only had the first thing and early evening noise. Food in restaurant nice but took an hour to arrive, stone cold, drinks warm.

Das parkähnliche Gelände mit Pool ist toll. Die Containerhäuser sind nicht gross, wir haben aber gut geschlafen. Man sollte gutes Mückenmitteund Rauchstäbchen gegen Mücken dabei haben wenn man draussen sitzen möchte. Das Restaurant ist ausgezeichnet.

Accueille chaleureux, de très bon conseils, n’hésitez pas. Le Lieu est magnifique, les pieds dans le sable . Et Je vous conseille le safari sur un radeau, moins cher et très agréable, (eléphants crocodiles … ) demandez lui. On le recommande 100fois.

Nowhere to hang our clothes.

We absolutely loved the atmosphere and the surroundings. We stayed in a well equipped tree bungalow just a few meters from the lagoon. Loved walking on wood. The food was really tasty and it was really nice being able to sit outside the bar as it was really ”cool off- season days”. The staff was really hospitable and welcoming. Good location within walking distance to ”everything”. We walked everywhere around Batti.

We didn’t stay as our room was not ready and they gave us a cheaper room saying it was an upgrade . We asked for the correct room but they made us wait two hours and we don’t believe the room would have become available

There was a pool but very damaged - shame The bathroom was very old , mosquitoes everywhere, huge gaps under doors- not the room we booked - management at front desk were not helpful so we left without staying .

schöne lage direkt am fluss. erholsamer, gepflegter poolbereich. das personal ist herzlich und sehr zuvorkommend. feines essen.

als individualreisende und oft einzige gäste im restaurant haben wir uns im auf events und veranstaltungen ausgerichteten hotel etwas fehl am platz gefühlt. alternativen für verpflegung sind in batti noch eher rar. die angebotenen mietfahräder sind in desolatem zustand, zweimal endeten ausflüge mit platten reifen.

the service

This was my second stay at the Riviera Resort. I like the location, which is quiet and peaceful. There is a large pool and a spacious, new dining area. The staff are outstanding and always willing to help.

The road leading to the hotel has a lot of potholes, so be aware if you are coming in a tuk-tuk or small car that it will be a bumpy ride for a couple of minutes.

Restaurant service too slow. Male attendants are not attentive. Few Western food selection.

The location was good and they were able to help us swap to a room with a/c. It also had hot water!

It was quite faded, for example, the poolside lounge cushions were all cracked. Also, their recent price increase for their singing fish trip made it too expensive for us.

I am enjoying my stay with a great nature and staff at the hotel.

We zijn erg vriendelijk ontvangen, het ontbijt was goed en de staf was erg vriendelijk en gastvrij, ze hebben ons met van alles geholpen , zou hier zeker terug komen, erg mooie locatie met mooi uitzicht en alles in de omgeving makkelijk te bereiken

Located directly at the Batticaloa lagoon. Staff was very friendly. You can rent a kayak there, and there's a model railway to see. Great facilities (restaurant, pool).

Restaurant. We were told in check in that orders are always about 40 minute wait and to order ahead if possible. Arrived at dinner with our toddler. We waited 1.5hts for food. We then asked if we could preorder breakfast for. Set time the next morning as we watched others do this. Our order was taken but the next day, again we waited almost an hour for breakfast (continental and pancakes) they forgot the pancakes. And we had to delay our driver. The restaurant is not cheap. The delays unacceptable (not the only table waiting for food each meal) and the rooms were full of mosquitoes.

C’était super , toujours agréable, je suis revenu 3eme fois à Rivera , j’ai jamais été déçu. Bravo l’équipe.

The Location is beautiful in front of the Batticaloa Lagoon , however the family room that we stayed was a bit outdated ,needs renovation , Very Friendly and helpful staff , The food was delicious

We had a good stay at Riviera, good location, away from the busy roads, very good for walking, particularly in the nearby beach. The room was fine, good outside veranda, bed and towels good. The restaurant was excellent, very good, probably the best restaurant in the area. Food is made to order, fresh and of a very high standard, wide and varied choice. Go for an early walk on the beach and watch the local fisherman, interesting.

Location and restaurant

The room and bathroom - were small, dated and old, and smelly. The bathroom width was 2 1/2 ft with the wash basin in the middle that you had to walk around. There were no hooks to hang your clothes if you choose to shower. The towel, which used to be white was an off color and stiff. The room never really cooled because there are gaps in the room through which heat/air can come in. When I told the reception person on the way out, they said “It’s the room that’s usually given to drivers” - no wonder! As to why Booking.com or Riviera would give it to a foreigner to stay is shameful. Since there were no pictures of this specific room it was impossible to figure out it at the time of booking.
