Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Great location , close to shops, pubs and cathedral. Staff very nice and helpful.
Had our dog with us and felt like we were put in a less quality "dog room ".
Staff are very good and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.
Getting to our room was like a maze. Squeaky wardrobe doors. Mean on the tea and coffee etc
Very convenient and secure parking
Disappointed as bar had no brandy or baileys for a night cap before retiring.
Location
The bed covers was dirty stain towards the bottom of the cover
very clean, friendly and comfortable. Brilliant aircon. Great location
It's a bit run down and expensive for what it is.
Location
For a one night stay everything was good.
Hotel was clean, and room spacious.
Being in the middle of town, it was quite noisy. I had prepaid for my room back in March, but receptionist said I hadn't. Partly my fault, I should have double checked so I paid again. When I explained, a refund was issued, but will take up to 10 days. I feel it should have shown on the system, that I had paid.
Location
Room over the high st
Hotel was central. Breakfast was excellent, both quality and choice. Handy parking once one could find the way in, easy access to Cathedral and some excellent real ale and Belgium beer pubs. Would use it again .
Bathroom was cramped, inflexible shower, too dangerous to use for older persons, no handrails etc. Room heating was too slow to reast and something was noisy and clicked all night.
Always enjoy staying here
Nothing
Ideal city centre location. Good staff. Nice bar area
IVE vehicles using EV spaces meant we had to find alternative chargers despite paying for parking. EV spaces should be exclusively for EVs
Central location
Noisy at night, especially Friday/Saturday night owing to nearby bars/clubs. Bed was hard and uncomfortable.
Being able to park in the hotel carpark Good outside area Breakfast, good selection
Not being able to open the window in the room, has I like to have air circulating
The location is excellent.
There was no hot speaking service provided. They hadn’t cleaned the room.
Location, breakfast, and guest areas
We were woken by low bass sounds at around 6am which continued until 7am. Also cigarette smoke in corridors
Position in town. Nice surroundings good breakfast.
Very poor welcome. We had to be moved as water came through ceiling during rainstorm. We were charged £10 for parking then told if the small carpark was full, they would reimburse and we could stay in a nearby car park at a higher price. We were asked if we wanted clean towels but were then told that rooms were serviced only on alternative days so if we were to get clean towels they wouldn’t have been able to provide them. I have never stayed in a three star hotel when rooms are not serviced daily. No milk left in room for drinks.
All of it and the fountain in the garden
that we had to leave
Car parking was excellent. The staff were lovely. Breakfast was superb. Room was spacious with a comfortable bed and a good shower. The windows were difficult to open and need attention to the frames. The location in the middle of Lichfield is where we needed to be.
The windows in Room 74 need attention. It's always nice to get fresh air in. The directions to the stairs are unclear. The noise in the street from revellers went on until two o'clock in the morning - yes, I know it was a weekend and a food festival.
Brilliant location, lovely room clean
The room was directly across from a nightclub…. Was expensive for bad nights sleep sadly 😫
Location was great and it had a car park as well. Right in the middle of the city centres
We had room fifty and it was very hot. There was an old air con on the wall but it didn’t seem to work or have a remote. We had to keep our windows open and they are very overlooked and the noise from the bars and restaurants in the same street was substantial. We found a fan the next morning in a wardrobe :-)
The staff were helpful and friendly. They were knowledgeable in the local and surrounding areas amenities
This hotel is a great location right in the heart of lichfield town. Breakfast here is fantastic, the room had air-conditioning which was really quiet and the bed was comfortable.
We stayed in room 75, if you are going to stay here there are better rooms for same money. Parking at the property is at a cost of £10. I thought this should of been included if staying at property, I should of read small print. The shower around fixings in this room had mould underneath where its been constantly missed from cleaning, room was very tired needs upgrading, no sockets by the bed for phone charging, also condiment tray was poor , normally there's a pack of biscuits each there was 1 pack to share and some of the sachets had been there a while. And also the heating was on in the corridor the heat hit you on entering it.
We liked the cozy reception and bar area. Our room was spacious. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
The lift was as not operational when we checked in, requiring us to take our 19 kilo each, luggage up three flights of stairs. Also our room was opposite a nightclub that had loud music and people in the street in front of the hotel until 3AM.
As always it’s a gorgeous building, nice restaurant very friendly staff and we love the courtyard. Rooms are spacious and presentable. We received a complimentary upgrade with it being our wedding announcement and having our wedding day here. Gorgeous love the George Hotel.

Very central and very comfortable, charming helpful staff, wonderful breakfast
Nothing
Noise from people talking loudly outside in the courtyard below my window as well as noise from a generator during the night. Not what I'd hoped for when I needed an early night after driving for several hours.
Very disappointing. The George charges a high tariff but does not quite deliver. We had an air con in our room which did not work. We complained but the reception lady could not have cared less. Only one window of three opened. I asked to speak to a manager but no one appeared. The bathroom had been redone but there were chips on the edges of the counters Only bright spark was the kitchen (good breakfasts) and we had a server called Shona who was great. Bottom line: an old property showing its age and not value for money. Try the Premier Inn down the road with air con and for sixty quid less.
Typical Best Western Hotel, Grand Old Building a little dated but everything was clean and tidy. Not the most luxurious hotel but a nice change from the ever increasing pricing of a Premier Inn.
A little modernizing with the furniture in the bedroom. Typical of these old building hotels all the furniture is old giving a uncomfortable vibe. New furniture would make it much nicer
We thought the lattes were very reasonably priced. Nice environment and very friendly staff.
A great place to stay in beautiful Lichfield. Clean, accessible and very friendly staff. Able to bring a dog too.
I didn’t dislike anything but it’s perhaps a touch dated but it is in an old coaching inn!
Location was perfect.
Rooms are extremely dated & shabby.Lots of stairs up to our room, no lift access, which I had requested for my Father. Single duvet put in a double cover. £170 a night & it wasn’t worth it.
What a lovely hotel. Greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Quick check in process and a really nice well presented room. We didn't have an evening meal but the buffet breakfast was really nice, well cooked and the staff were again very attentive.
Helpfulness of the staff.
Noise from neighbouring bars etc..
Very helpful and friendly staff, great room and central location.
Some of the radiators were switched on in the hallways making it rather warm!
Breakfast not included
In 5 nights stay I didn’t get a room clean until the second last day , I didn’t complain but just wanted to point this out
Excellent value for money. Staff super friendly and helpful
Nothing
Breakfast, all the staff
Can be a bit noisey in the front rooms
Comfortable and great location
Price was a bit expensive
Great central location
The bar opposite was very noisy late into the night
Handy for train travel and attractions.
Location good, staff helpful and welcoming
The restaurant heat was too much, no aircon
Very little!
I booked the room months before requesting an accessible room for my 90 year old parents who have mobility issues. I spoke to a fabulous man the week before to confirm their room would be close to a lift & a walk in shower explaining Dad could not get into a bath. He was very kind and assured me this was possible and I’d annotated it on the special requests. We arrived and the man on the desk was unwelcoming, rude and unhelpful. On finding the room with a shower over the bath we spoke to the man on the desk and explained we’d specifically requested a room with a walk in shower but he said he didn’t have an alternative. This tired, run down hotel needs to provide some staff training to support both their customers and their staff. Luckily it didn’t ruin my Father’s 90th celebrations but we will never visit again due to rude, uninterested or caring staff.
Always a great stay
No air con
The greeting, the kindness and respect shown
Nothing
Central location perfect
Noise late night from the street outside
Wanted our small wedding reception here, registry office all booked and wedding breakfast arranged but found out no room’s available to book on the same night. Extremely poor communication and feel we were fooled into booking something they clearly could not fulfill completely
Amazing day for our wedding day. I highly recommend the george hotel. They went above and beyond to make our day as special as it was.
Right in the part of Lichfield where most of the bars and restaurants are situated. The hotel was a lovely venue for all sixteen of us to stay at and such friendly and welcoming staff. The rooms were adequately stocked and extremely clean all were air conditioned. The food was second to none and must mention the mashed potatoes with the fresh herbs infused.
Lovely welcome and accommodating
The location in the town
Nothing all was good
All went well. Breakfast - good choice and helpful staff. Very comfortable room
Location.
Very hot. Air con not working and very noisy all night on street outside so opening windows was impossible without disturbance. Only fans supplied for cooling which was unacceptable. I'll try the Premier Inn next time.
Very nice hotel in a good location handy for all the city amenities.
The room was comfortable, but the air con was broken so in a heatwave, the room was unbearably hot. The staff explained that it needed regassing but it wasn't working last year either, so likely to be an excuse for the fact it was switched off as it was too expensive to run. The radiator in the room was also hot and couldn't be turned off until we complained and a hearing engineer arrived. All the hotel could offer to cool the room was a couple of fans that were ineffective. The room was on the second floor with no lift and if the window was left open overnight to try to cool the room, the noise outside from the neighbouring bar was also unbearable and went on until 3am.. To cap it all, the street sweeper came past at 5am. And woke us up again. The staff tried to help but the problems were not really able to be solved. All they could offer was sympathy and an explanation that it was a heatwave and by implication, out of their control. The Premier Inn is just down down the road and looks far more inviting.
Great location and comfortable beds. Very friendly and helpfull staff.
Windows didn’t open in the room and it was very hot, no aircon and the small fan wasn’t very cooling.
Room was very hot ...there was a fan surplied but that would just rotate hot air . Why have a air conditioner but no controls !!
My 3 night stay during a heatwave was a great experience. This is hospitality done the proper way, as befits a family run business. As soon as I walked into Reception I knew I was in for a great stay. There are always staff around and all so friendly. I was in room 61 on the 1st floor directly above the coffee shop, where residents get a 25% discount - it does close a bit early though. It was a charming room and completely soundproofed from outside, although with the age of the hotel you may be aware when someone is in the room next door. It also had a silent but efficient air con unit, so I was never uncomfortable during my stay. I dined in the hotel on all 3 nights. The bar and restaurant serve the same menu at the same prices. Portions are excellent and prices are on a par with the competing restaurants nearby. Breakfast is buffet style, well stocked and laid out attractively. The city centre is flat and easy to walk round as it's mainly pedestrianised. The bus station and railway station (across the road from each other) are within a 10 minute walk of the hotel. Lichfield is particularly well served by buses and I enjoyed visiting a number of nearby towns during my stay. I was on a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal and felt for the overall experience I had, it represented very good value for money. I would happily stay here again.
Generally good. Lovely air-conditioned room. Good breakfasts and dinners. BUT the bar prices were exorbitant - £3.70 for a Schweppes Tonic mixer! Disgraceful.
It was classy
Good value and location. Comfortable room.
No guarantee of parking space
Het ontbijt was het hoogtepunt van het hotel
Kamer en de schoonmaak
Location, good food. Pleasant staff, clean comfortable beds.
Air con in the room would have been nice.
Location
Lack of Aircon. Appreciate it's an old hotel and existing system was decommissioned but working Aircon would have changed this from an ok experience to a great one.
Always a great stay
No air conditioning
Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a family wedding. Our room was air-conditioned and therefore very comfortable in this hot weather. Without exception, every member of staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. In particular the barman with glasses and shoulder length hair who was so friendly and a lady receptionist with brown hair who, very helpfully, switched our daughters room to one nearer to ours and also atranged an early check in at short notice for her , this was so helpful enabling her to get herself and her 3 year old ready for the qedding in comfort. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Lovely hotel in a great location
Exceptional hotel and service.
Period features and atmosphere supporting HMS Ark Royal Association AGM and Black Tie formal evening dinner.
Location and friendly staff
Car park charges As blue badge holder found out I could park for free in car park literally the other side of the wall but the hotel charged me £30 To park in their car park didnt like that also too hot Had only 1 silly fan and one window that would open Nah too too too hot
Erittäin ystävällinen respa
Good location. Hotel were experiencing a total power cut when we arrived and could not book in. We did leave our luggage at reception for the 3 hours before check-in was open, around 5.30pm.
The hotel has a major staffing problem, there was nobody available to help with cases to our rooms. When requested assistance we were told everyone was busy and they didn't normally provide any help to customers. Reception, Bar Staff and other members of staff were all very off-hand and unwelcoming.
Great place to stay in Lichfield
Location
Air conditioning did not work
Not much to like really. It was tired abd in need of some TLC
Hot stuffy room with no air conditioning, just s small desk top fan. Kettle which took an age to boil & a shower which only ran hot
We were in Lichfield for our daughter's wedding and decided to stay at The George the night before. We were staying at an AirBNB for four days before so popped into the hotel to see if we could check in early a couple of days later. No problem said the person on duty. On the day of check in we arrived and the guy at reception was efficient but had no personality whatsoever. No smile, no welcome and just an appearance of having a job he hated. He then tried to charge us for an early check in when no mention had been made of it two days earlier. In fairness, the charge was waived although the hotel again tried to charge it on check out. Again, it was waived. As for the room, it was a nice size but extremely hot. "We can't control the weather" barked another person on reception when we mentioned this. Well, the room actually had a mini split wall air conditioning unit but it didn't work. "It's an old unit and it doesn't work" we were told by cleaning staff. The same person did deliver a fan though but all that did was move warm air around the room. The restaurant was fine and we had lunch and breakfast there. Overall, a disappointing experience where quite clearly the emphasis is not on guest comfort. It's simply another hotel that wants your money and isn't capable of delivering it when the chips are down. We shall not make a return visit and will find other accommodation when visiting our daughter in future.
The room was huge, very clean and little extras . Staff were so friendly. Lovely city and hotel in a great spot. Loved it that windows opened and a fridge.
Parking costs
Breakfast was excellent. Air Con in room was excellent.
Room a bit small
A place with character in an excellent location. We were there for a function which was well catered for, good food and service.
Room was rather too warm with only a fan to mitigate it. Bed less good than eg Premier Inn.
Some of the staff were helpful, but others weren't particularly interested. The room was scorching due to temperatures. There was an a/c unit in the room, but it wasn't working. We were told that all yhe rooms are in need of the units regassing
Room temperature
Great location, friendly staff
It needs updating. Air conditioning decommissioned. Windows painted shut . Mould in bathroom. Tap had to be run in the sink for a long time to get clean water. No fridge. No complimentary water as the room was excessively hot due to the heatwave. Ten pound charge to park car. The room where breakfast was served was far too hot , no open windows or fans ( situation was not addressed ie heatwave) .
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, well cooked and staff very helpful and gave their full attention to requests.
The room was really hot. No attempt had been made to open windows wide to cool room before arrival. A fan had been provided and this was already switched on, but unfortunately this was not effective. Appreciate it is difficult to ventilate with fire doors and provide security, but the temperature was such that sleep was impossible. It was far hotter inside the hotel than outside.
Location. Parking OK, but £10 a night is not good value.
Too hot in the bedroom. Air con not effective. TV remote didn’t work and no effective solution offered. No bottled water. Tea and coffee in room very limited.
Very central and very cool in the hot weather
Location
No Aircon worked, the rooms were stifling hot, I cancelled 2nd night.
Everything
Bar and food prices very dear
Always a pleasure to stay here
Nothing
Good location.
Had to pay extra for parking.
Location
Broken air conditioner Small room Loud outside space in the courtyard made it impossible to sleep and rest well.
Breakfast was excellent and the location couldn't have been better for access to bars, restaurants and the City Centre
The room was extremely hot
Everything
Our room was great but glad didn’t have room near the bars
I have stayed here before. I find it pleasant and welcoming.
My single room. Dark, poky, looks like it has not been refurbished in years. And add to that the noise (it opens onto a landing/ corridor to many other tooms) despite being at the quieter rear of hhe building. Room 9. Avoid. Car park for £10 a night is excessive.
Location
The rooms are dated now.
The traditional ambiance of the hotel and bedroom. The bed was very comfortable but was in a double format even though I had requested twin format. However we both slept reasonably well despite the heat in the room.
The fact that the sash on the bedroom window was broken and the window only opened 2 inches on a very hot night.the On asking at Reception if one needed to pay extra for air conditioning (there being a unit on the bedroom wall) we were told that it didn’t work.
Great location and all the staff were amazing
Great location
Air conditioning broken Tiny bathroom
An excellent hotel is the centre of historic Lichfield. The room was large, the bed comfortable. The restaurant/bar area delightful, food delicious and staff friendly. Stayed here 30 years ago and had a good experience so came back when we were in the area.
Quick check in , room clean , staff were pleasant , food was decent and reasonably priced .
Great breakfast, very friendly staff
Bed too hard
In a great location,,
There was a screeching sound from the bathroom on and of through out the night very uncomfortable
Did not stay. they couldn't guarantee a single woman a safe parking place
Breakfast fab, staff great, overall a lovely weekend
Room not as nice as one stayed in previously. Also a bit of an up and down trek. Room itself fairly freshly decorated but do t personally feel suited building. Similarly furniture. Floor incredibly uneven and therefore bed on a slope. Not suitable for mobility issues, One are mini,al but nonetheless it was a little awkward, one night very noisy from other residents and neighbouring establishments
The reception staff were amazingly helpful, storing my bag after I had checked out. The breakfast staff went above and beyond to cater for this coeliac. Lucy cleaned the room- it was exceptional. The bar staff catered to me around 9.15pm when I wanted a drink and were helpful in selling me a soft drink and a cup of tea around 11am.
