Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Located 10 minutes from centre of St Ives, this wonderful hotel has spectacular views of the sea. We were upgraded to one of their lodges which made for an extra special stay. I had two treatments at the spa which were very good, shoutouts to Vikky and Sarah, both very knowledgeable and helpful with treatment choices and products. The yoga instructor, Kate, was excellent too. Sam went out of his way to help us with our breakfast hamper delivery one morning. We had dinner at MOR, which my husband said was one of the best meals he'd ever had! Breakfast in the main hotel dining room was excellent too. A great overall stay, I would love to return some day.
Stunning location. Spa and gym easily accessible and well kitted out. Very relaxing.
Room facilities were lacking given the price - no tea/coffee making in room, a free standing fridge which was empty, no drinks on room service menu, huge mirror blocking plugs not fixed to the wall (unsafe). A wedding on Saturday night played very loud music until midnight. Breakfast menu limited. Staff generally not customer service focused.
The beach is beautiful and the staff are so friendly
I wasn’t aware our apartment would be so far from the main hotel which isn’t ideal with small children (with a very large hill!). The apartment was fine but had elements that felt like student accommodation and for the price I paid I expected more. The breakfast delivery was a nice touch but there wasn’t much variety. The pool times with kids was so restrictive.
Position incredible
The spa area was amazing. The location was superb, The food was delicious. The history of the hotel was very interesting to us.
The junior suite was rather smaller than expected, and the only window in the room was not overlooking the sea and in fact could be overlooked by other residents from their balconies! The staff were often slow at table service at breakfast and sometimes erratic.
Views
Lovely location by the beach.
The room was small and the carpet had a stain by the bed. The bathroom blind was broken and had a stain. The pillows were not great, quite cheap man made / polyester ones. One restaurant member of staff was quite rude when we arrived at dinner.
Amazing location! Feels like you're outside of the UK. The hotel itself is looking great, and the facilities are perfect. Really loved the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi with the view of the ocean. Great restaurants on the territory, and the breakfast has a great selection to choose from.
The views of the main house were lovely but the false advertising regarding the room, poor service and disappointing food were a waste of a great location.
I booked the garden room at the carbis bay hotel for my father’s 60th birthday as a gift and was throughly disappointed with the result. The room was in fact not at the hotel but rather a makeshift cabin 2-3 miles from the hotel at the back of a random house. The supposed garden view was a poorly kept corner of someone back yard. To add insult to injury the bathroom had a loud macerator which went off randomly every few minutes interrupting my parents sleep. The property had numerous Velux windows which were covered in bird excrement and could not be closed. Staff were unhelpful and stated that the pole used to close the window was broken! In general staff were reported to be unhelpful and confused. No information book was provided and staff could not help with a WiFi password. The cabin was so far that reception was patchy and staff were barely contactable! Staff also gave conflicting information continuously- 1 example stating that breakfast was/ wasn’t included- and in general were unhelpful. Although the view in the orangery and by the pool was wonderful I’m informed the breakfast was another disappointment. My mother ordered fruit and yoghurt- the fruit tasted as if it had gone off and the syrup added tasted like a canned brine. My fathers pastry tasted like something from the local coop. Overall not worth the money.
Excellent resort, location, restaurants, staff are excellent. Amazing outdoor pool and facilities.
Everything, nothing not to like, exceptional resort all round
I just can say Carbis bay beach is very nice view only.
Firstly, at front desk check in after that the staff just ask me have you call taxi to your Glambing Pod .I'm very strange that need call taxi???????The staff have not explain why need to call the taxi and have not tell me the pod address , i ask the staff where the location as we need to drop off address, they say once the taxi driver coming i will talk with him. Why the Luxury glambing pod very secret????? The driver came seems already know to send us to the secret living place. The driver nearly 10 mis from carbis hotel or walk back nearly 1 hour. It is ridiculous!!!!!!! When arrive the pod , no staff here and we need to look for him .The driver help me to find him . The pod staff shortly brief the room and have not told me we can use Glambing Pod facility-'The Nest' Spa Garden with treatment room, ice bath, garden sauna and tranquil garden. I have review carbis bay hotel website then can see the Glambing Pod stated that - "Although POD St Ives is out of the ownership of Carbis Bay Estate, the property is marketed and managed by the Estate on behalf of its owners." But they have not stated the Glambing Pod is too far 10 mins drive / Walk 1hour.If i need to use the hotel pool and dinner need call taxi again by myself.hotel I can't accept the pod is belong Carbis Bay hotel and the hotel have not provide any transport service to up and down hotel / Glambing pod .i need to pay around GBP 40 / 4 times extra transport fee up / down hotel / Glambing pod and waste my time. Because the busy time need to wait 0.5 Hour the taxi.Secondly, the pool view was indeed fantastic. However, the spa of reception huge staff was extremely rude & impolite . In the changing room, when she took away used grey bathrobes from the basket , she asked with a disdainful look "Did you use those two gray bathrobes?"We already said not us to use ,it is the last two women , she still go out and say it is yours.
Really pleased with beach club restaurant for dinner. Food quality incredible.
Service was not amazing or fast. Everything did not feel that friendly.
Stunning location. The beach and coastal walk are beautiful
No welcome drink on arrival, no one helped with luggage. The staff are rude and unhelpful often making you feel like you are an inconvenience. Over priced average food which comes covered in random dressings. The spa is ok but the pool area is overcrowded, the spa its self needs a deep clean and the staff need training in customer service.the manager is also unhelpful and argumentative. Almost £2k on a 2 night stay in a very average hotel.
Lovely place, staff were lovely. The cabin is good but not as nice as the main hotel overlooking the sea!
Everything! Exceptional location, building, facilities and decor
Nothing
Was very nice and within walking distance to the beach etc
Called the facility MULTIPLE times about some jeans that my child left without response—very disappointed
The Spa, the food, the views and the beach bar and restaurant.
Nothing.
Carbis Bay pool and facilities very good
Restaurant food was poor. POD way too far away to be convenient.
We loved the location and the sea.
We booked an expensive room with sea views. The carpets throughout were badly stained. The fridge in the room was completely empty no ice or soft drinks or alcohol, even though we paid a refundable deposit???Whilst there was a kettle and tea and coffee satchels there was no milk but you could order milk from reception. The bathroom smelled and they only provided a single hand and shower gel which we had to move from the sink to the shower when we took a shower. The service was poor and extremely slow and in one instance sarcastic when my wife explained her allergy to certain food ingredient.
The pods were absolutely fantastic A nice distance away from the main centre of St.Ives , but only 7 minutes drive back in . Very quiet , superb communal cold plunge pool and a brilliant private hot tub in the garden .
Just a bit more clarity required the breakfast situation I think , more consistency. The first morning was a large box of pastries and a lovely loaf of bread The second morning was a much smaller box of pastries and another loaf . Just nice to know what to expect
Arrived at hotel, with very polite greeting from reception staff , then upgrade to sea view room, shown to room, room was good, used Walter’s restaurant which was good but would have preferred the hotel restaurant
It’s old and traditional but very clean and comfortable
Tuli huijattu olo.
Everything about the hotel is wonderful! All the staff are incredibly professional yet friendly. The location is stunning overlooking Carbis Bay and the spa facilities are excellent. We were upgraded to a gorgeous sea view room with a balcony at no additional charge. It was such a wonderful surprise on my Birthday. The food was also delicious at the breakfast and in the restaurants. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back again!
There is nothing to dislike about this hotel!
The property is in a wonderful location and is totally idyllic. We were treated to a complimentary upgrade at one of the Beach Houses and wow what a surprise, it was amazing my daughter and I were so lucky and happy.
Nothing at all - everything was perfect.
Location
Pool area
The location is fantastic and the food amazing. Restaurant staff were lovely.
The blind in the bathroom doesn’t fully go down in room 203 so I felt exposed. There was no fan in the room, which was needed during a very hot few days. The two ladies on reception team weren’t particularly friendly or welcoming when I arrived, but the lady on departure was lovely.
This was our 4th visit and the hotel has certainly deteriorated. They are trying to live in the past, the G7 was five years ago, and have lost sight of the basics. Lots of chipped paintwork and very inconsistent service. At almost £400 per night (on offer) for b&b you expect the best. Our bedroom initially appeared pleasant and clean with a lovely sea view. However, the paintwork was chipped and the window frame was rotting and the window had to be held open with a piece of wood. There was also a thick layer of dust on the chandelier lights. There was a coffee making facility but no milk, it had to be requested every time you wanted a coffee. For us the milk arrived fairly quickly, other guests were not so lucky. We ate 3 evening meals at the hotel, twice at the beach club and once in the Orangerie. Service in the Orangerie was awful, after about 40 minutes we had to request our main course, which had obviously been sat on the pass. Breakfast service in the same room was also very slow. The Beach Club service was slightly better. The food itself was generally good. Breakfast was restricted to 2 courses, which at £400 a night was a big surprise. The staff were a mixed bunch, some were very pleasant, others very brusque. We’ve come away feeling that the management have lost sight of what made it such a great place. It’s such an amazing setting. Forget past glories and concentrate on getting the basics right.
I would highly recommend this hotel and spa. We used the beach associated with the hotel / estate. The restaurants were nothing short of first class from breakfast to evening meal. Spa was lovely with great amenities. Will most definetly return. MR T
Nothing
We had a fabulous stay at the carbis bay hotel with lovely views and lovely staff Our room was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for an excellent stay Food was fantastic We will definitely book again I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough Thank you
We booked a Family Pod at Pod St Ives (booked via Carbis Bay Estate) for 6 nights. We used one of their (many) offers to get a 2 for 1 deal, where we paid for 3 nights and were able to stay for 6. The price we paid for the 6 nights felt reasonable for what we got however if I had paid full price I would have been disappointed and considered the stay to be overpriced. At full price, it would put the stay on par with a similar length of stay at a cottage at the Headland Hotel in Newquay or for a cottage with Cornish Gems. We've done both of these options before and they offer a far better experience and are therefore worth the cost compared to Pod St Ives. I'd happily do either of those options again, but I wouldn't return to one of the pods. The good bits: - Lovely setting with beautiful, well-maintained gardens - Stylishly decorated - Bamford hand wash, shampoo and conditioner included - Fresh bread and pastries delivered every morning - Access to the Spa Garden - and I never had to share the sauna with another guest so it felt very private and tranquil The not-so-good bits: - Lack of storage - no shelves/cupboards - Towel rail too small for even one of the towels provided, let alone for a family, so towels had to be dried on back of doors which wasn't easy in cooler weather - No cleaning service or hoover which was challenging for a 6-night family stay - Concierge service was okay but I messaged to ask for extra bin bags for the kitchen bin and they did not respond. I ended up phoning the main reception the next day to organise this. - Inconsistent breakfast delivery (left in different locations everyday) - Cleaning felt rushed (marks, cobwebs) and some of the furniture was broken (a side table and the sofa arm) - Only one multipurpose soap bottle for all sinks/shower provided The really rubbish bits: - No pre-arrival comms at all, which is so important because check in does not take place at the pods but rather at the main reception for Carbis Bay Estates which is a 10 minute drive away. I only knew this from their Instagram account. Again, we were not told to check out at the main reception but we did assume we'd need to. - A drunk man tried to enter our pod late at night. Staff resolved it but were dismissive the next day, despite how unsettling it was for us with a young child in a remote setting. I hope they consider adding full-height gates to each pod's garden (only some have this currently) and installing a keypad to make the spaces feel more secure because this situation could be avoided. I appreciate this was probably a very rare situation and the man turned out to be a fellow guest who couldn't find his way to his own accommodation, but a more secure gate would be useful. The setting is lovely, but the customer experience (from pre-arrival to practical design for families) feels poorly thought through. We had a nice week as a family, but didn't find the accommodation compared favourably with other stays we have had in Cornwall.
Stayed in a cottage right on the beach for our wedding anniversary and my birthday. The cottage had everything you'd need for a lovely stay. We ate at the Beachclub the first night, food was amazing. Second night we ate in the orangery and the food was also amazing, the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Foul smell where we were sitting Member of staff hoovering whilst we were having our drinks Music too loud and inappropriate for 5pm on a Saturday afternoon I was brought the incorrect drink. After going through what we wanted to drink several times just left it as it was. Staff not welcoming. Yes and no answers to any questions. We were 4 adults. £53.00 for 2 beers and 2 very small glasses of OK wine
Our children surprised me with a 2 night stay with breakfast at the Carbis Bay Hotel for my 80th Birthday in February. As the 58th Wedding Anniversary of my wife and I was due on June 1st, we decided we should use it for that. We spoke to James, one of the managers, a very helpful and friendly chap. He arranged the booking for us and we arrived just after 3pm. We were greeted by the lovely Leah at Reception, who was amazing. She explained all about our stay and then took us on a detailed tour of all the facilities, explaining everything and answering all our questions. She asked what time we would like breakfast and explained the different restaraunts and how to book a time if needed. We were given a Junior Beach Lodge, which had an amazing view over the beach. It was quite roomy with en-suite, Twin beds, (which we had requested, when talking to James), Fridge, Television. Balcony, Dressing Gowns and complimentary slippers and a nice Gin n Tonic each. In the afternoon of each day complimentary snacks and cakes were laid out in the small kitchen area in the corridor outside the room, for guests to help themselves. (The Lemon Drizzle Cake was amazing). Various types of Tea and Filter Coffee pods were always available, as well as cans of fizzy drinks. Even had two glasses of Champagne delivered to our room one afternoon. The meals we had in the restaurants were excellent with a large selection of drinks. Waiter service was very good at all times. The Spa had various sections, but we only used the outdoor pool, which was very nice. Around 27 degrees and the Hydro pool at 36 degrees was very good. There was also a Sauna close by the pool. The dressing gowns came in handy for going to and fro the Spa area. All in all a perfect Anniversary present at an amazing hotel. Everywhere was always clean and tidy, very quiet atmosphere. High praise for all the staff there, from managers down to cleaners. So friendly and helpful at all times. Highly recommend a visit.
Amazing hotel and beach. Fabulous food and a location that cannot be beaten. Such a beautiful visit. Maxine who works in the Beach Club Restaurant and The Deli was just wonderful and she’s such a huge asset to The Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate. She was so friendly to everyone and she went out of her way to make everyone feel so welcome.
I stayed at the POD St Ives. It was infested with ants. I could not leave one crumb out or an army of aunts would show up. The lemon cake they left on the counter as a welcome snack was teeming with ants. I left orange juice on the counter for 5 minutes to go outside and watch snow kids on horseback go by. I took one sip when I returned and there were little black ants floating around. Be warned re the PODs. The loft gets HOT. If the temperature is warm in Cornwall, the loft is gonna be almost double that temperature cause there’s no AC. In addition, if you plan on drinking or being out know that the stairs to get to the loft are very precarious and definitely wouldn’t recommend for people with bad knees, older people people who drink, etc. they’re built very precariously and remember if you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night you actually need to scoot your bum on the bed in order to safely get downstairs. Overall, my experience was super negative. The place wasn’t cleaned that well there were ants. The temperature was ridiculously hot and no attempts were made to cool it down before my 8 PM arrival. I would definitely not call this luxury glamping. The experience may be different down at the hotel and spa. The positives were that they delivered bread every morning at the pod fresh bread and I found a lovely walk from the pod to the village where you take some public footpaths. Overall, I would never stay there again.
Dirty. Any infestation. Not close to anything. Definitely not luxury. Windows weren’t cleaned well. Dust everywhere. Outdoor showers unlikely to be used as in full view of street.
We stayed at Carbis Bay from the 22nd–24th April and it was honestly one of the most special experiences of our lives. During our stay, we got engaged with the help and support of the incredible Carbis Bay team, and they made the whole moment feel truly magical and unforgettable. We were also given a complimentary upgrade to one of the beach lodges, which completely exceeded every expectation. The lodge was absolutely stunning — luxurious, relaxing, and with the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. Waking up there felt surreal. Every part of the stay was exceptional. The restaurants were outstanding with amazing food throughout, the spa was fantastic with breathtaking views, and every member of staff we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our stay perfect. Carbis Bay is such a special place and now holds memories we’ll treasure forever. We will absolutely be returning for years to come and cannot thank the team enough for making such an important moment in our lives so unforgettable
Nothing we booked a hotel room and it was a pod not even located by the hotel
Stunning location and really great staff, but room was dire and food over priced and didn’t taste good. We stayed in a junior suite and it was very disappointing. We stayed at half term so it was expensive but there was no aircon, the view was awful of someone else’s room, there was no fridge, no robes, no biscuit and you had to shower stood in the bath. I was very disappointed. To top it all the food in both the orangery and beach club was bland and over cooked. Ceasar salad is £26. The pool is amazing but kids can only use it for a couple of hours a day. Whilst I understand this policy, most guests were families over half term so perhaps they should have changed the rules for this week. Lots of people were annoyed. The staff really were amazing though and I felt like they all work very hard and were very friendly. Also the beach is stunning. It was so beautiful and made the trip for us.
Services n location
Our 3rd stay at Carbis Bay and it’s always truly magical Beach villa was amazing, attention to detail fabulous Staff incredibly helpful Weather was awesome
Parking a little difficult
Had a 2 night stay in the studio garden Cabin - a managed property by the Carbis bay estates. The Cabin had everything needed for a nice stay, breakfast hampers delivered to your door at a time of your choosing, kitchen came with all that's needed, some complimentary items in the fridge, pleasant outside seating area and off road parking. However the Cabin is not on their website and didn't state the facilities that were available at the Carbis bay hotel for us to use which was the outdoor pool and sauna etc we found this out only by asking the concierge after our first day. Roll forward to our last day and we decided to use the outdoor pool after we had checked out (something we were told the previous day was fine to do) to be told by a lady on reception we weren't allowed as we'd checked out. After us stating the previous advice from another member of staff the lady huffed and puffed and agreed to ask her manager. She agreed to eventually let us in but not after a dressing down about the situation, how busy it was the previous day and her needing to enforce rules in front of others at the reception desk. She was then laughing and joking about us and the situation to her colleague when I walked past after getting changed. Not very professional nor customer friendly. It left a slight spur taste after a few lovely days away. This is not a reflection on all staff though everyone else was lovely and friendly, special shout out to Tyler, we had an issue with the WIFI in the cabin , he gave regular updates on the situation and had it all fixed within a few hours. Super friendly super helpful.
What started as a rather disappointing start to our trip turned into one of the most memorable stays we’ve ever had – and it’s all thanks to the wonderful team at Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa. We’d originally booked elsewhere in St Ives but after one very underwhelming night, we found ourselves searching for alternatives. After a little research, CBH quickly rose to the top of our list – and from the moment we arrived, we knew we’d made the right call. The welcome was genuinely warm, with staff offering us a relaxed tour of the hotel and a coffee to help us decide, all with absolutely zero pressure. That kind of hospitality is rare and it set the tone perfectly for everything that followed. We checked into Lodge 5 – yes, that Lodge 5, used by France during the G7 Summit – and it was simply stunning. The interiors were beautifully thought through (shoutout to whoever decided to include a Dyson hairdryer and GHDs – genius touch!), the private hot tub and terrace were just fabulous, and the view across the bay? Breathtaking doesn’t quite cover it. Breakfast delivered to your lodge each morning was a lovely touch, but what really elevated the experience was the concierge team – Sam and Ollie, you two are absolute stars. Genuinely helpful, friendly and just all-round lovely guys. The WhatsApp service for questions and room service is brilliantly convenient too, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. We ate at the Beach Club on Thursday evening – the live music added such a great atmosphere, the food was fantastic and the bay views made it feel really special. Saturday night at Walter’s was a completely different vibe but equally enjoyable; fresh food, a great menu and a wonderful setting. For daytime grazing, the Deli is super easy and convenient – perfect between time at the pool or a visit to the Spa. And the Spa… heavenly. My massage was absolutely wonderful and I’d highly recommend it to anyone staying. I also couldn’t leave without buying the candle they had burning – it was too good to resist! What began as a holiday hiccup was completely and utterly rescued by our time at CBH. We loved it so much we extended our stay by an extra night. Highest possible recommendation – we will absolutely be back! 🙌
Carbis Bay Estate gave us an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The whole stay felt special, but what stood out most was the professionalism, care, and attention shown by the team throughout our engagement. Abi from the arrangements team was exceptional. She communicated clearly with me in the lead-up to the proposal, kept everything organised between the photographer and florist, and made sure I always knew what was happening. Her professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made the whole experience feel smooth and stress-free, which meant I could fully enjoy such an important moment. On arrival and throughout our stay, every member of staff we came across was warm, welcoming, helpful, and genuinely happy to make the experience special. The Beach House was incredible, the views were stunning, and the spa added even more to what was already a perfect occasion. Thank you to Abi and the whole team at Carbis Bay Estate for helping create such a memorable experience. Because of how amazing everything was, we will absolutely be considering Carbis Bay again for our wedding day.
Schöne und helle riesige Suite direkt am Sandstrand. Mit eigenem Jacuzzi, was für unsere Tochter das absolute Highlight war. Oli vom Team war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Top. 👍🏻
Das Wetter. Es regnete. 😉
From initial welcome from Jamie-Leigh on reception all the staff were so polite, cheerful and helpful. We had a wonderful stay, bed extremely comfortable, room spotless and breakfast was tasty and well presented enjoyable evening meal in the Orangery to celebrate our anniversary, many thanks for our card
The only slight issue was the occassional noise from the plumbing( I think) , maybe this is to be expected in an older type of building This did not spoil our stay and we would love to return in the future
Huge suite which was well done. Small deck/patio overlooking the beach was semiprivate and great. Sundeck and hot tub were nice. Service was excellent. Restaurant was very good but brought my rating down a notch. Beach club restaurant was nicely casual with lots of dogs which brought their owners. We like Carbis Bay.
What an amazing stay at Carbis Bay Hotel. A truly 5 Star experience. It was so good we extended our 4 nights into 5! A special mention to Troy who sorted out my booking into the main hotel when I realised I had booked The Cabin, a 5 minute drive away. He also sorted out our additional night's stay and taxis to The Gannet where we had 2 excellent meals with some of the best service I have experienced. Even the weather was amazing which just added to a wonderful week. Thank you, we will definitely be back!
Another wonderful stay at the beautiful Carbis Bay Hotel and once again it completely lived up to everything we love about this special place. We stayed in Junior Suite 7 which was absolutely amazing — spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and with stunning views that make it so hard to leave. Waking up to the sea each morning is just magical. From relaxing spa treatments, peaceful walks and refreshing sea swims, to simply sitting and taking in the breathtaking surroundings, every part of our stay felt special and restorative. A very special mention must go to Sam, who is such a gentleman and a real credit to the hotel. Nothing is ever too much trouble and he always makes us feel genuinely valued and welcome. Receptionist Jamie-Lee was also fantastic and always makes sure our room is exactly to our liking, which is such a thoughtful touch and very much appreciated. Sadly we didn’t get to see as much of her this trip, but her care and attention certainly didn’t go unnoticed. Our two meals at the Gannet Inn were absolutely excellent. The staff were amazing — attentive, friendly and they created such a lovely atmosphere. The food was beautifully presented and every meal felt like a real treat. It’s the people, alongside the beautiful location, that keep bringing us back time and time again. We truly love this hotel and already can’t wait for our next visit. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to all the team at Carbis Bay where we celebrated our daughters wedding. We loved staying in the beachside lodges, a stunning setting, where Sam and concierge team looked after our every need. Thank you.
This is the most beautiful location. Right on the beach front. Absolutely gorgeous views and sunsets. Incredibly clean beach and in my opinion the best beach in Cornwall. With lovely restaurants, shops for all your beach needs, a lovely little ice cream stall and if you want to learn how to surf they even have classes you can book on. The hotel is outstanding. The staff are so lovely and go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect. Troy and Sam go above and beyond every time we stay. We visit every 12/15 weeks and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. You can’t beat this hotel. The beach house we stayed in was out of this world. We stayed in number 7. The pictures speak for themselves. Everything was sparkling clean and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We loved to leave the windows open at night so that we could listen to the sounds of the waves, so relaxing. We also saw some seals! The spa is gorgeous and looks right out onto the ocean. The cocktails are out of this world.
Booked afternoon tea for my partners birthday, very disappointed, the sandwiches were bland and tasteless, the scones were hard and dry, cinnamon buns without any cinnamon, the cakes were forgettable. Very disappointed from a hotel of this supposed standard.
“For 13 years, Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa has been our cherished retreat. We started coming as a couple and now return with our kids—and even our family dog. We visit once or twice a year, whether in summer or during the peaceful spring or winter. From the moment we arrive, Leslie and the team make us feel at home. The beach is just steps away—perfect for the kids—while I can relax or get some work done. With stunning coastal walks, scenic views, a variety of options—hotel rooms, cottages, beach houses—and fantastic restaurants, this beautiful resort offers something for everyone. We can’t wait to return
Stayed here for the weekend with my husband and kids. One of the maintenance workers was smoking weed outside, not a good experience!!
I booked an overnight stay at the hotel with my daughter. We both had a full body massage in the spa. We also used the pool and sauna as well as the gym. The bedroom was well appointed, comfortable and with a great view of the beach. We had cocktails before dinner and then ate at Walter’s on the Beach. Breakfast was in the main restaurant and was really good. All the staff we met were great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We had a lovely weekend here, we stayed in a deluxe room in the main hotel. The room was spacious, plenty of storage & a lovely modern bathroom with a walk in rainforest style shower. We had a juliett balcony & were really glad of this as the room was warm & it was great to have the door open all night. Staff were all friendly, the spa was great & the views of the beach were superb. We were lucky to have such beautiful weather too. The beach is stunning, the costal walk to St Ives was really enjoyable & the breakfast was delicious. We would definitely come back. My only moan would be we would prefer a bigger bed but this would not prevent our return. See you next year Carbis Bay x
Lovely setting. Nice pool. Extensive grounds. Good food and lovely staff. Well priced too.
My partner and I booked here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and I don’t know where to start! From the assistance on the phone and emails from various staff on making sure we were fully ready for our stay. Upon arrival we had a great experience with Ilma at reception who could not do enough to help us and made our occasion just feel special, even leaving us a congratulatory card in our room upon arrival. We loved the spa and everything about the hotel, the views are just incredible with some of the best food and drink venues I have come across on the doorstep. As I have said the location, staff and service we received here made our celebration so special and we cannot thank everyone involved enough for this, we shall return!
Sadly Carbis Bay Xmas 2025 was not all it was cracked up to be, in fact, from our experience we've stayed in better Premier Inns. The hotel was cold, there was no heating in the public rooms or initially in our bedroom, we had to ask twice for it to be put on. The only heat we had was from the empty fridge that was in a cupboard! Considering the cost for 4 nights stay (Xmas package 3 nights plus 1 extra night OVER £2.5k) Xmas was a complete let down. There was no entertainment other than a pianonist who played the same tunes for a short time every evening, and there was no bar where you could sit in comfort, have a drink and meet other people or a nice warm lounge with a roaring log fire. Christmas Day early evening there was a buffet which was very nice and made up for Xmas lunch that was served plated and only luke warm so had to be sent back, and this was just the tip of the iceburg. When we arrived we were given an upgrade, not sure why except it meant walking up 3 flights of stairs with luggage and no offer of help and no lift. Our room overlooked the car park, the old windows rattled 95% of the time and let in the very cold air. When we checked out they even had the cheek to add a service charge on everything! Some of the staff we wouldn't give the steam off our coffee (not that there ever was any) let alone a tip, other than to be more friendly and helpful, and this is just the tip of the iceburg. Would we recommend Carbis Bay Hotel, absolutely not, would we go again, absolutely not, is it a 5 star hotel, absolutely not.
The spa facilities and the views
Our room was a 15 minute walk from the main hotel and it wasn’t clean.
We managed to get a really good rate for the room with a 50% deal, we had a Junior Suite with a Sea View and were fortunate enough to have a double balcony also which given the sunny weather was a great bonus. Id had a few dealings with staff at the reception prior to our check in day and they were superb and couldn't do more for us to help. This service continued when we arrived, in fact it continued throughout our stay, superb service throughout. The room itself was a good size although the balcony area was a bit tired, possibly as we've just gone through winter and I imagine they take a battering in bad weather. Possibly they get tidied up before the summer arrivals. Room had an espresso machine, some instructions would've been helpful. It had a fridge, although it was empty, a nice touch could have been to have some local drinks in, other hotels in the area do this and is a nice touch. There was a kettle and tea, coffee, hot chocolate but sadly no biscuits, again such a small gesture that's always nice and warmly received in other hotels. Bathroom was big and bright, was mostly clean although attention needed to be paid to the shower head, a build up of dust that should have been cleaned, however it wasn't a big issue for us. There was a tablet in the room to look at hotel facilities, room service etc however frustratingly it didn't stay powered on for long once taken away from the holder, probably due an upgrade. Breakfast was superb, pick 2 courses from the menu and all locally sourced ingredients which was great to see and cooked to perfection 👌 The one thing to look out for which is nothing the hotel can change is theres a lot of steps and the hill down to the hotel from the station is very very steep so be prepared! Overall a good stay, but glad we had a 50 % discount as for the full price id expect everything to be spot on.
We have had s glorious 4 night break over Easter in Carbis Bay hotel and Spa. This hotel is not only beautiful and serene but the staff who work here are first class and very attentive. The food is beautiful and the atmosphere in all the restaurants is fantastic. We found the staff made our stay a Five star plus experience. A special thanks to Nicole, Troy, Alex, Jamie Lee and all the very friendly team who looked after us with so much care. Our children loved the kids club activities and loved looking at books in the library, playing games and enjoying their swim time in the pool. The Carbis bay spa is beautiful. The treatment I had was one of the best. Thank you Jayda for taking care of me so well. Thank you all.
Beautiful food in a gorgeous setting the orangery restaurant was a delight from start to finish! We had fish dishes and the tandoori chicken all were beautiful with great presentation. We enjoyed drinks on several days in the CBH beach bar too. Our kids really enjoyed completing the Alice in Wonderland themed Easter hunt.
Carbis Bay Estate never fails to impress, but my recent visit for a pick-and-mix spa treatment with Sarah was truly exceptional. On a glorious 2nd April, I enjoyed a swim in the outdoor pool in beautiful sunshine, followed by the sauna and hot tub, all while taking in those stunning coastal views that feel just as special even as a local. My treatment with Sarah was outstanding - her back massage and facial were so deeply relaxing that I actually fell asleep, which says everything. Having experienced many top hotels and spas, I can honestly say Sarah’s treatment ranks among the very best. The products used were absolutely beautiful, leaving my skin feeling incredible. A perfect, indulgent escape from start to finish.
Visited for Sunday lunch and a stay over. We had heard good things. However by the end of our stay we were left a bit underwhelmed. The room was nice enough. Described as a junior suite. It had a great view over the beach, but other than that was quite an ordinary room, which looked and felt a bit tired. In hindsight I was surprised to hear the receptionist who showed us to our room describe it as her favourite room in the whole hotel! The location is great. Views and beach lovely. The seagulls tapping on the window was interesting. Breakfast was also disappointing. Sourdough toast over toasted, under toasted bread with the eggs and smoked salmon and elements of the English breakfast a bit over done - particularly the bacon. Service was a bit brusk as well. Just not quite the quality we were expecting. Whilst the price was!
Had a fabulous time on our sundowner spa afternoon despite the cloudy drizzly skies. The staff were welcoming and friendly, very accommodating . Cocktails were 10/10 in Walters.
We booked a ‘villa’….only to find out upon arrival that it is nowhere near the hotel. We were shown to the property, via van, and told it was a two to three minute drive, it was not. The ‘villa’ is isolated, albeit, sharing a very small drive off of the main road, and not within walking distance of the facilities of the hotel; We were told that if we wanted to have dinner at the hotel and have a bottle of wine we would need to get a taxi back to the property. As far as I’m concerned, if I’m a guest, it is the hotel’s responsibility to transport me from A to B. Once entering the villa, I took photo’s to show the standard, which I feel to be substandard, and thus at best is a cynical attempt to relieve customers of the weight in their pockets. The standards of cleanliness were well below that of which should be expected, there was no underfloor heating - which should be an absolute standard in all highly glazed properties, for two reasons, efficiency, and comfort. The glasses were dirty, the mugs were dirty, and there were issues around the windows. We have booked this villa for two nights, thank goodness, had we have booked for three, it would have cost a phenomenal amount of money. It would be my suggestion, for all guys reading this do not do it! Last November, I stayed in a house called Estuary Watch, and it was so much better. I would highly recommend, 5 beds and 5 stars. So close by, so much nicer, don’t waste your time with Carbis Bay, unless you are impressed by a breakfast hamper……..and that being the case, go to The Treehouses, Chewton Glen. That’s 5 star.
