Beautiful room
Nothing
The location was great for the Borris festival of ideas. The room was very comfortable and the restaurant had very good food. The staff were very friendly. We would go back and spend more time there!
We had to leave very early in the morning and it would have been great if there were some way of having some sustenance before we left!
We love the bar, the dining room and location.
The room was very poor tbh. We asked for assistance to open the window but nobody came to help. We were then given another room which was fine and helpful.
I loved the gardens they were amazing, staff were so nice and I liked the bar, food was also good
Carpet on stairs was very grubby and there was a smell which I didn’t like on the corridors
Location staff amd hotel
We didnt have access to restauraunt so had to have dinnef at the bar,. Featherblade of beef was a tough piece of steak, not fillet, asked for medium but very rare and rubbety making it inedible. Next day poached eggs for breakfast large fragments of shell unfortunately
Beautiful hotel
The smell of smoke from the fire in the bedroom and all over the hotel
breakfast good
Staff really lovely and helpful. Bar and Gardens are beautiful. Bathroom spacious and shower great. Breakfast lovely served in bar. Lovely village.
Hotel rooms, soft furnishings and paint a bit worn and tired. Needs a freshen up.
The rooms are fantastic, and the people working there are simply the best you will meet anywhere
Everything was excellent
The food was lovely espically the beef!! Yum ...amazing views and lovely staff !!! Beautiful large balcony !
The room was quite cold on both nights stay ... i was able to get cappichino on my first morning breakfast but not the second morning? Not many stations on tv and no netflix option or anything The socket on the wall at kettel/lamp is loose so couldnt plug kettle in had to move it over to the bed side and had no light at my mirror for getting ready
Everything, service, food, cleanliness.

It’s a beautiful hotel tucked away in a beautiful little village, it’s my husband and my 3 rd time here and won’t be our last
Location, layout and service.
Apart from the luxurious surroundings, the food is the highlight of this great hotel.
We liked everything about the Step House... Lovely friendly staff...

Such a fabulous stay with my friends! An amazing welcome from the start (at the reception desk) to the end (a gorgeous chat with the hotel owner)
Warm and pleasant staff. Lovely room, comfortable bed.
Na
Gorgeous hotel. Big open fires in the lobby and bar, nice place to sit and read the paper, amazing food in the Cellar restaurant, and best beef I ever had in the bar on Sunday afternoon! Lovely room, lovely view, everything was perfect.
The Srep House is located right in the middle of town.the room is spacious, comfortable and clean. Sarah at the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. An Uber we had scheduled didn't show up, she called and had us a cab in 10 minutes. We also ate a delicious lunch and breakfast.

The breakfast was brilliant and great choice of dishes
That I didn't have the time to stay longer
They were able to accommodate me an extra night when I had to bring a relative to the hospital unexpectedly. They allowed my brother to join my breakfast in the morning when he travelled up to collect my dad from the hospital.
There was a lift emergency someone stuck in lift! My TV didn't work first night.
Hotel was very clean and staff very helpful.
Nothing comes to mind.
It was excellent and the restaurant was outstanding
All the staff in the hotel are so friendly and absolutely lovely to deal with... Rebecca and Sarah always make us so welcome. The food in the bar is exceptional. The fires are so nice and you can just sit and relax and unwind... This is a top class hotel to stay in and well done to all the staff who always make our visits so memorable.....

The beautiful decorations and lights really added to the festive atmosphere, warm welcoming fire, room decor was very tasteful. Tasty breakfast. Would like to return during the Summer to experience outside garden etc
I had difficulties operating the shower
Amazing Food, cosy ambiance, experienced and familiar staff, local bars also a treat
Not a thing we had the perfect stay . We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary . We married at the step house and return most years. Super special place to us and we were made feel very special with room upgrade , complimentary drink with our meal and many staff wishing us a happy anniversary . Really lovely stay .
Beautiful hotel and bar and restaurant with amazing staff . Clean and warm We will definitely be back
Everything was perfect
So cosy
Absolute gem of a hotel. We return every year and each stay still exceeds our expectations. The staff and owners are exceptionally kind and skilled at providing 5 star service. The ambience is always warm, relaxed and cosy. Christmas season is very special, the tasteful decorations are beautiful and add to the hotels tranquility. The spacious and elegant rooms ensure a restful stay. Nothing beats sitting by the open fire, no matter what the season. The other residents we met shared our sentiments, and also highly recommend this treasure of a hotel. Thank you for wonderful stay again. We look forward to our next relaxing escape to Step House Hotel.
It was beautiful Tasteful Christmas decorations were beautiful

Lovely location and lovely friendly staff. Exceptional food and beautifully decorated for the Christmas
Our bedroom was beautiful, the restaurant was closed so we dined in the bar from the restaurant menu, the bar was really cosy and beautifully decorated, the food was amazing
No issues at all, a beautiful hotel
The room & bathroom were spacious and spotlessly clean. The large bed was very comfortable. The open fire in the reception area & the Christmas decorations 😊
We liked everything.
Lovely big rooms. Spotlessly clean. Dinner in restaurant and breakfast was fab. Lovely bar.
Can't really fault the place. Would highly recommend it.
Staff, excellent. Very friendly atmosphere. Lovely property. Spacious, comfortable bedroom and well appointed ensuite. Will definitely recommend to friends.
Nothing!
Step Hotel is very welcoming from the minute you go in the door. Gorgeous open fire in lobby. Room very comfortable. We had an evening meal in the bar and the food was excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Our bedroom was a bit too warm in the night. But we were able to open the patio door to cool it down.
Fabulous hotel , open fire in reception and bar area going all the time. Room massive proper king bed not two mattress’s shoved together ,massive shower and balcony .. food class too .. definitely be back
Back for our 14th wedding anniversary. Food lovely. Suite fab (was the room I got ready for my wedding in, so that was lovely). Breakfast yummy.
We loved our room and bathroom.
Nothing.
Everything beautiful hotel in a quaint town ,, lovely staff and food
Nothing, everything was lovely it was out 2 nd time staying and will definitely again soon hopefully
A beautiful hotel and friendly professional staff. Our room was amazing, comfortable, well equipped, quiet and we had a balcony overlooking the garden. There was a large selection for breakfast and the evening meals were delicious. There is a carpark at the back or on street parking. Would definitely recommend
the food was amazing we had breakfast each morning and diner one night as we had other plans the rest of our stay . We received a bottle of bubbly from the owner as we sat by the bar . A very kind gesture. The fire in the lobby was very homely and welcoming atmosphere . location was amazing we travel by car to a few different villages scenery outstanding
We found the rooms to be dated and beds not very comfortable . there was quiet a bit of noise the first night from other guest which went on until early hours
Away from the tourist locations in a more traditional village. The restaurant was tremendous.
It was a hidden gem in a beautiful town away from the hustle and bustle of bigger towns
Nothing to make mention of
Room was “tired & dated “, Ni WiFi worked in it. Bed head board loose and kept rattling, bed much too soft - didn’t get much sleep , kept waking due to uncomfortable/super soft bed Staff were excellent - as was food ( top notch )
The room was elegant with a beautiful big balcony on a stunning view. The entire hotel was cute and with cosy vibes. Bed and pillows super comfortable and huge bathroom with bath and shower.
Unfortunately, I found several hairs on the shower towel, I don't think it was because they didn't wash it because it smelled good and looked clean, it looked like they didn't check better for the hair that can be stuck in the dryer.
there was a leak whilst we were there. this set off the fire alarms at 5am which interrupted a nights sleep and there was no water for showers in the morning. despite all this there was no offer of a refund which would have been appropriate.
Lovely ambience, high standard of decor and facilities, good service, excellent breakfast, free parking, very good dinner.
Nothing, one-night stay, everything perfect.
lovely room
Perfect hotel to stay in before heading back to Dublin. Great location to visit Kilkenny, and some of the smaller towns in between Cork and Dublin. Quaint hotel with a great bar and restaurant. Fantastic staff.
Pulito. Staff gentile
No colazione
La qualité des chambres, le restaurant est excellent.
It was quiet
Service was slow in the bar for food. 2pm was our dinner reservation and came out at 4:05pm for a three course meal. Then they tried to charge us for three people.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
8.3/10Mixed reports: several guests praised overall cleanliness, but there are specific negatives (grubby carpet on stairs, corridor smell, smoke odor in bedroom/hotel, and an instance of shell fragments in eggs) that lower this score.
Service
9.6/10Consistently excellent: numerous comments about very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff (including manager/chefin), prompt assistance (reassignment of room), and warm, welcoming service throughout.
Location
9.6/10Very strong: repeatedly described as beautiful, tucked-away in a lovely village with amazing views and a great setting; guests return for the location.
Room Quality
8.7/10Generally good but inconsistent: many guests praised spacious rooms and large balconies, while others reported poor rooms initially, cold rooms, worn soft furnishings/paint and maintenance issues (loose socket, lack of mirror light).
Amenities
8.8/10Good onsite amenities (bar, pub area, winter garden for breakfast, beautiful gardens) but some shortcomings reported: limited TV channels/no Netflix, kettle/socket issues and occasional restricted restaurant access.
Value for Money
9.1/10Standard quality for this hotel tier
Food and Beverage
9.3/10Mostly excellent: many guests praised dinner and breakfast (fabulous, fantastic meals), though isolated negatives include a tough steak prepared incorrectly and one instance of eggs containing shell fragments.
Overall Experience
9.4/10Strongly positive overall: frequent praise ('would return', 'couldn't be nicer', 'everything excellent'), highlighting atmosphere, staff and food despite some isolated issues.
