Breakfast was terrific! Portions were appropriate, ingredients fresh, everything we had was fabulous. I had a cheese plate for dinner and my husband had oysters-both superb!
The staff was very rude & unprofessional. The facility is old & outdated. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on horrible service.
Style, location, recreation room
Dirty room, couldn’t cool down room, no linens for pull-out even though we were 4 people, no refresh of mini bar
Le restaurant et le confort de la chambre
Une chambre au quatrième juste au dessus des moteurs … probablement de climatisation qui ont fait beaucoup de bruit toute la nuit.
Iconic building and well run. VERY convenient and free parking in the deck behind the hotel.
It was the second time I was in a handicapped room. Those rooms are not proportional. And the shower does not drain well. Water is an inch deep the next day. Provide a sqeegee
Love this boutique, well located small cozy hotel. The restaurant and bar is fantastic.
The views from several rooms are less to be desired however the rooms themselves are sizable with great bathrooms.
The staff were super attentive…
My AC was completely turned off so I had to have someone come to restart and get the temp down. The Shower head leaked the entire time I had the bath on. The sink was clogged and had to have maintenance to come repair.
I never choose to eat breakfast at the hotel
Location of the hotel and the amenities the hotel offered.
We absolutely loved the basement amenities as well as the lovely bar!
I wish the room had two bathrobes but it was no big deal :)
The property is beautiful.
The hotel refuse to work with booking.com. They went out of their way not to answer two representatives and one supervisor. I’m recovering from cancer surgery and was wanting a night stay to recoup. I asked to upgrade my room to a room with a tub. I was told to speak with booking.com. I did. The hotel needed to approval the upgrade. The front desk person ignored several phone from booking.com. Why because she said she doesn’t like 3rd party agencies. I stay at the hotel for over 3 hours trying to get this hotel to speak with booking.com. They would not the front desk said they couldn’t call as well. Then the front desk person was able to find the same room that was $10 more on booking, but the hotel wanted to charge me $100.00 up charge. So I decide to leave. I was told they would refund my money for a nonrefundable room and that has not happened. I just wanted a tub and to soak. Instead I wasted what precious time I have trying to get this hotel staff to work with me. If you don’t want to work with 3rd parties or feel 3rd party patrons, like myself, are less than, then maybe don’t contract with those agencies. But giving me the run around is inhumane.

Room wasn’t clean nor ready when we arrived
Very clean and comfortable rooms. Historic look and feel. Fitness room was exceptional
The recreational rooms looked great but were poorly executed. The bowling balls were chipped and cracked. The pool table featured two cues that were garage sale rejects and didn’t even have chalk. More than one basketball would have been nice. Broken pretend pac man machine was also weak
The restaurant was amazing - so good!
We enjoyed the recreation facilities.
The check in experience wasn't good. There was no on at the door to assist with parking or luggage. The person checking us in was not friendly.
This place is awesome
The area was unique
Letia at the front desk was welcoming and helpful by sharing local attractions and advice. The restaurant was fantastic and we ate there for two meals, both 5 star! The room was clean, spacious and we loved the decor. The amenities were a welcome differentiator from other hotels that only have a pool. The bowling and shuffleboard made for great entertainment. We will 100% be back!
The front desk people were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is lovely! The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was amazing! I would definitely stay again!
Sleepy City, especially on the weekend
Always love the atmosphere. Our favorite stay in Winston Salem!
A+
Great all around service
What a hidden gem! Such a beautiful hotel and the staff were wonderful ! I will be doing a lot of business in the area and I will make this hotel a manditory part of my travel. Absolutely incredible!
Never got my deposit back
Like the quick check in, love the building
Room was very large, modern bathroom. Bed needs replacing and hotel still has loud slamming doors, which was awful with boys soccer teams staying at hotel. Night wine, water reception was cute, could probably throw in a cracker, fruit? The hotel was stunning, charming as it was older, built well, but needs a refresh in rooms. Great location to shops, dining, all walkable. Bar made great cocktails, was busy.
Great historic hotel, just a little pricey
We absolutely love this hotel and we will be back soon
This is a beautiful building and the staff were all so friendly. I only wish I could have stayed longer. The fitness room is one of the best I’ve seen at a hotel.
Very nice hotel. Very clean and comfortable.
If you have an issue, although the staff are friendly, not all capable of problem solving. Always bump up your issue to a manager.
We just stayed one night traveling to the coast. The check in was easy. They had valet parking. The bar/restaurant area was great. All staff we encountered were friendly and polite.
Starting to show its age. Lobby area was in need of a good cleaning. Morning coffee service was “broken”, a poor presentation
Was a great stay for me and my family
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Clean, modern, excellent staff. Really enjoyed the charcuterie at the lobby bar, too. My one complaint is the TV in the room was oddly ancient. Could not get any streaming channels. Could not even use Apple Air play to cast shows from my phone or computer.
Cute, quirky with lots of character. Comfy beds in nice sized rooms with nice amenities. Loved the happy hour and restaurant was great! Recreation room was a cool twist☺️
Nothing
Staff was friendly, but (1) the key-card did not work after being “fixed” and (2) receptionist “knew nothing about restaurant” as a response to my questions about breakfast. I was surprised LOL
Guest should be asked if they are ok with being placed on a pet friendly floor. Pet owners should be allowed to leave pets alone in the room.
Everything was fabulous. The room, the restaurant, and the rec facilities in the basement? What??!!?? The best I’ve ever seen in a hotel.
Awesome chocolate martinis
We spent one night of a long road trip at the Kimpton Cardinal. It was great! We ate an amazing meal at The Katharine. The risotto, beet salad, burger and dessert were phenomenal. Then we took the kids to explore the rec area. They bowled, played ping pong, basketball and shuffleboard. Would definitely come back!
Amazing
The Kimpton is a beautiful, family-friendly hotel that has all the bells and whistles. My children were able to have their first "hotel experience" with additional benefits of the basketball court and bowling alley. We enjoyed our time. The staff was amazing, attentive, and kind. We will definitely return.
The kids really enjoyed to rec room with bowling, billiards, and basketball court.
Nice hotel and easy check in Laid back hotel with valet parking Our exterior view of the city from 4th for was disappointing. Dogs in this hotel and one barked early in the am in our hall. Valet guys were mostly great but one guy was not so great. Delayed us by disappearing with our keys and trapped me in between two cars but otherwise ok. Hole-y towel Bar service was ok Restaurant was ok Room service had a good burger and bread pudding but forgot our drink and ketchup. Room stayed cool and shower water pressure was nice. Thank you
Beautiful property. Amazing bathroom.
Nostalgia
Mattress was a little weak for the hotel hype
The conveniece could not be beat and the atmosphere was so uplifting and fun it put a little "pep in my step." Checkin was so pleasant and welcoming. We will seek out more Graduate hotels to stay at!
I’d like to give the front desk manager, Letia, a five star rating! Her attention to important details went above and beyond any hotel experience I’ve ever experienced. Thank you!
The staff were amazing, food quality was excellent in hotel restaurant. The only issue was that the room was very hot (76 degrees) and we could not adjust the temp ourselves. Although the hotel staff was responsive when we called the front desk, it took several hours for the room to cool down. I wish the room would have been 68 upon arrival.
Gorgeous bar and great French restaurant. Such a pretty hotel. Would definitely stay again! Comfy bed and pillows.
The nostalgia…the restaurant
The breakfast doesn’t stand out.
We stayed one night to attend the Edgar Allan Poe performance three blocks away. The staff was super friendly and helpful with finding somewhere to eat and suggesting on places for spirits.
Small rooms. The shower wasn’t cleaned properly. Room 522. Had blood spots on the wall in front of the toilet. At 7:45 am the smell of marijuana came through the air conditioning vent, so strong we were worried about it making our clothes and luggage stink. Check in area was tiny, we had to drive around the block several times and eventually park in a parking garage instead of using valet parking. Very close to the train tracks, but I wasn’t bothered by that.
Room was very nice.
Gorgeous property.
The hotel has been redone but has the feel of an old property. The most frustrating was the service
Staff, amenities, and cleanliness
Parking was horrific and the entire hotel only had 2 luggage carts available.
Not what I was expecting for a 4 star hotel. I have stayed at Kimpton branded hotels before...and I expected more because Kimpton are usually very nice. Pros: Hotel decor is great, modern, fun bar area. Food is good. Nice gym. The valet is amazing too!!! Super fast and friendly. And, now for the cons, they literally don't answer the front desk. You have to keep trying, Housekeeping still hadn't cleaned our room at 4pm one day. Had to call repeatedly to get towels delivered to room. Broken hair dryer x 2. Third one worked! And, the worst, my room smelled like weed. CONSTANTLY. I think it was coming from the shared HVAC with the residences above the hotel. Regardless, it smelled so bad. Chair in room was filthy and needed a good clean. And, it's not in a great part of town. Not very walkable to the really anything of significance. Seems run down and lots of empty business space around the hotel.
The property is beautiful and large and staff was great,Everything is available on site
Great location and staff
Parking can be challenging since there isn't a large area for valet drop off.
They did a great job refurbishing the property, keeping the old character and charm while mixing in modern amenities. The facilities were very clean and the staff was very helpful.
I decided to spend a little more for an overnight stay in Winston-Salem by selecting this Kimpton Property downtown. I typically expect over the top quality at Kimpton Properties. NOT THIS TIME. NO HOT WATER IN MY ROOM. After informing staff, I was told that the engineers checked the boiler and it was heating. However, it wasn’t in my room. Luke warm at best and more often cold. The only way the water would get warm was to run the shower and sink on full blast hot at the same time. UNACCEPTABLE KIMPTON. You failed a basic guest amenity - Hot Water!! Not even a mention about my experience at checkout despite the fact I had several contacts with the front desk staff. Buyers beware! Apparently the standard Kimpton brand quality does not apply to the Cardinal Kimpton in Winston-Salem. Disappointing!!
Reserved a room with hot tub and living room, day of booking my room was changed with no hot tub no seperate living area and only got a 3 dollar discount. The only reason i booked the room there was the hot tub for mothers day. The room was clean, I did not like the parking deck being a block away and my fridge had no adjustment and wasn't very cold. Other than those things it is a beautiful property.
