It was available and the price was good. Staff were lovely. Beautiful old building, in need of some TLC, but still lovely.

Important things: Toilet lid didn’t stay open, extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work. Would be nice things: Mirror wasn’t over the kneehole of the dressing table but to the side over the drawer section. Could do with a shelf in the bathroom as every surface on the sink sloped.

Historic hotel, lots of interesting things to see inside. It is a shame the hotel is not being used to it's full potential. Room was very large, although perhaps not laid out ideally. Fan was provided. It was very warm.

Bathroom very much function over form. And a bit rough. Wifi not great. TV would not connect to internet, so no using the integrated streaming services. And many terrestrial channels did not work.

We didn't stay. We told the staff that our dog was ill but the truth is that we felt unsafe in the town. The hotel had no facilities so to eat we needed to leave the hotel - we were advised by people in the street not to go out of the hotel in the evening. No breakfast service. The whole hotel smelled of incense and vapes. It did not look like the place that we booked.

Cost, free parking, 24hr checkout. It was perfect for what I needed. Somewhere cheap to get a few hours sleep, with parking and being able to check out at 02:30.

Decor is looking a bit tired but I wasn't overly bothered as I was there to sleep and not stay for an extended time. Being an old, lovely building, it was a bit wonky in places and very creaky.

The building. 400 years old with lots of Character. It was clean but needs some tlc.

There was no Curtain on the window only a net curtain and the sun is on that side of the building all day and I had to put towel to stop the light waking me too early. The room had come paper peeling off the ceiling.

Clean and comfortable. Had a good night's sleep. Really warm night but fan in the room worked well. Tea making facilities spot on for the morning.

Shower could have been a bit more powerful but still did the job.

The staff member who received us was a bit aloof and not that friendly. No porter to help carry our luggage to our room on the 4th floor. On requesting for milk for our morning tea and coffee, the staff member was visibly unhappy. He delivered the milk with no word, no "Good morning!". For a hotel of the said rating, that was way below our expeectation. The hotel needs some TLC.

Ali was very friendly and accommodating. Plenty of carparking, 400 year old hotel in need of tlc.

Top floor right down the very end. No curtain on the small window,woke up with bright sunlight in my face. Very creaky floorboards. Room 302.

The room was clean and bed was comfortable. The (small) staff were welcoming and helpful.

The kindest thing to say is that this is a "project" hotel, distinctly ramshackle and quirky. Renovations will clearly be ongoing for some time and cashflow is an issue. One has a deal of sympathy for the team tackling what must be a daunting task. However, we would at minimum expect the room to be serviced daily, which it wasn't. It was also a shame that breakfast was not provided. I don't think we would stay there again.

The staff were great! The hotel is very clean & the room was fantastic. I slept very well! There are plenty of food places walking distance & shops. The car park is safe & secure too. Would of been a 10/10 but the WiFi wasn't working absolutely not the hotels fault waiting for an engineer to come out & fix. Will stay again when working in the area.

I recently booked this hotel and unfortunately had a very poor experience from start to finish. The manager/owner was extremely rude and dismissive. Every time we tried to explain an issue, we were constantly interrupted and spoken over. Rather than listening, they immediately denied anything was wrong, only to then say they would “correct it,” which felt insincere and frustrating. On arrival, there was also confusion with our room. We were initially given the wrong room and only received the one we originally booked after having to push the issue, which shouldn’t have been necessary. The condition of the room itself was very disappointing. There was a strong damp smell throughout, making it uncomfortable to even be in the space. The shower was extremely temperamental — running cold and difficult to turn off properly — and the window latches were broken, letting in a constant draft. Overall, the situation was so bad that we decided not to stay the night at all. We ended up leaving and booking another hotel instead, as we were really unhappy and did not feel comfortable staying there. I would not recommend this hotel based on our experience.

I chose this property based on the reviews. I was looking for somewhere cheap to stay with my son while we helped my mum clear out her garage. I guessed from the reviews that the things that people didn’t like about the property wouldn’t bother me but the things that they did like I would really like. It was SO MUCH BETTER than I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, there are areas that need some work. In a 400 year old building, there is always going to be a list of things that need doing. But the ground floor round the reception area is comfortable with quality furniture. The carpets throughout the hotel are of high quality and give an air of luxury far beyond what you could possibly expect for the price they are charging right now. The rooms are snug but have ensuites of a reasonable standard with a shower and bath. We got moved to a bigger room on the top floor after a mix-up over our original room allocation, I think these rooms are a little more expensive but there was then bags of space for us both. The exposed beams in the roof space were an absolute delight. Both rooms featured real fireplaces.

The mattresses in the twin room we had felt a bit spongy.

The location suited our needs. Its central location allowed us to take in the long awaited sunshine and walk to all of our meetings. Ali the proprietor made us feel welcomed. He was on hand 24 hrs and dealt with an issue immediately in a calm and professional manner. The rest of the staff were equally polite and friendly and all eager to assist.

Sadly the local area is quite run down and as a result we were met with some quite unwelcoming behavior when out and about. This consisted of drunk & depressed individuals & mouthy kids on bikes circling around us. Some of the guests were very loud and obnoxious however, after we reached out to Ali he took the situation in hand and apologized profusely for any discomfort we may have felt.

The rooms have been improved and are more comfortable than previously. The beds are much better and the bathroom more cheerful than before

The initial welcome was rather cold until the man on reception realised that not only were we trying to check in but had stayed more than once previously when under the previous administration. The area seems to have gone downhill with lots of young men wandering the streets. The hotel has no bar or restaurant so if you want to party this isn't the place
