The iron staircase to the first level suite was somewhat steep and narrow, especially for elderly people. This is not to be expected from a five-star establishment.

Reviewed Aug 24, 2026We stayed in one of the suites, and the room was exceptionally spacious, comfortable and generally well presented. The bed was comfortable, and the staff at reception were professional and helpful. We needed to leave early the next morning, and they kindly prepared breakfast for us in advance. It was perfectly acceptable, although not exceptional. We also had dinner at the property, and the lamb shank was excellent and very good value for money. The setting next to the river is pleasant and has a lot of potential.
My main concern is value for money. The property feels slightly overpriced for what you receive, particularly at the upper end of their room offering. Nothing was seriously wrong, but there are a number of smaller maintenance and presentation issues that could be improved. For example, the couch in our room was showing some wear, and some areas of the property could receive a little more attention. The riverside area could also be managed better. Opening the umbrellas and removing the covers from the outdoor chairs and couches in the late afternoon would create a much more inviting atmosphere. Overall, it was not a bad stay, but I would probably choose another property next time simply because I do not feel it currently offers particularly good value for money.

Reviewed May 12, 2026The best part of our stay was the fantastic location on the Orange River. The Manor is set in a spacious, beautiful garden right on the river. We had a wonderful view from our balcony. The food at the restaurant was wonderful. The free shuttle from the airport was great. After landing in Upington, we were met right at the airport exit and were at the hotel in just a few minutes. We were also able to leave our luggage at the hotel while we drove to the mall in our rental car to do some serious shopping. We would come back in a heartbeat.

We were on our way to The Kalahari and stayed overnight , cannot fault the spot - fantastic room , great food , staff were amazing - highly recommended. The specific room we occupied feels a bit run down. The vinyl is lifting up causing a hazard and the handle cover of some of the doors are not there exposing the screws. The breakfast is extremely limited. Considering the per night tariff, rating and being probably the most expensive option in Upington this is not acceptable.

We were given room 1 which has an obscured view of the river. Having breakfast at 9am, we found little fruit was available and no cheese.

For me the best parts were the staff (friendly and so professional - you could not only see but also experienced that the customers were truly important to them) and then the food (no need to go eat out if you stay at River Place Manor) - every meal was so good!!! And to end the day by looking at the mighty orange river - cannot ask for better!!
