The breakfast was very good.

Outdated. Major renovations should take place.

We had breakfasts and dinners in the hotel and the food choice was goood and the dinners were well made. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is close too the square and several shops and restaurants in Porter so it is a good base of operations. It was completely full the week we were there- the hotel is popular with several tour groups as well as individual hiking parties.

There is no elevator/lift and as I have mobility issues climbing stairs were a challenge. However the staff were very friendly and did carry my cases up the stairs to the room.

Het was de laatste accommodatie beschikbaar in de buurt van Portree. Dus we moesten wel. Maar € 395 voor een stinkende aftandse kamer in een aftands hotel is gewoon diefstal.

Je n’ai pas aimé. Nous avons réservée une chambre plusieurs mois à l’avance car nous savions que Portree était une destination recherchée. À notre grande déception nous nous sommes retrouvés avec une chambre dont les fenêtres donnent sur la rue principale et au rez de chaussée, ainsi tous les piétons avaient une vue dans la chambre. Bien sur , ont peu fermer les rideaux mais à quoi ça sert d’avoir des fenêtres? Et il ne faut pas oublier le bruit des camions et des voitures. Ne pensez pas laisser une fenêtre ouverte pour aérer l’air humide de la chambre.Il y a plusieurs autres hébergement dans Portree , si c’est possible trouver autre chose. De plus le prix est cher pour ce que nous avons eu comme chambre. J’aurai aimé que l’hotel nous avise à l’avance que la chambre donnait sur la rue au rez de chaussée, niveau piéton. Nous aurions changé d’endroit.

Comfortable room, quiet and cozy. Breakfast was very good. Great place to stay if you need the hub of Portree. Nothing spectacular, but it ticked all the boxes for a good place to stay. Very friendly staff.

Parking is a little difficult, limited spaces in the city overall.

Stairs were tough

Personeel vriendelijk maar niet uitgesproken aanwezig. Hotel ziet er prima uit, eten is prima maar niet heel speciaal. Super hotel voor een doorreis door Schotland.

In de wasbak zat een haar, op de grond lage bladeren en er zat schimmel (die losliet tijdens het douchen). Verder netjes en schoon.

Hotel was clean, but needed some updating and refreshing. There was a private car park, but it only took about 8 cars, so very slim chance of actually obtaining a space.

1. Prezzo di 370€ a notte per un 3 stelle sono veramente eccessive, anche se per noi era rimasta l'unica opzione 2. A questo prezzo, mi aspetto come minimo un hotel dalla bella presentazione anziché una cosa che somiglia a un motel. 3. Ripeto 370€ per una stanza addirittura al piano terra non sono compatibili con una buona presentazione. 4. Neanche il parcheggio è garantito. "First comes first". Ci sono appena 5 o 6 slot di parcheggio riservati per tutti gli ospiti dell'hotel. 5. Colazione. Abbiamo notato che è frequente che la colazione in scozia sia ordinata al cameriere anziché self service. Ma la selezione era comunque limitatissima con appena dei mini croissant, sicuramente scongelati, tra le opzioni dolci del self service, nessuna opzione salata al self-service, e i piatti da ordinare, seppur decenti, non all'altezza del prezzo della stanza. Sono consapevole del fatto che fosse un 3 stelle e non sicuramente un hotel di lusso, ma mi aspetto che se mi fate pagare 370€ per una notte, come minimo sia adeguata la stanza, con standard igienici corretti (es. No moquette e cuscini decorativi sul letto), che la struttura non sia fatiscente e che il personale sia ospitale fin dal primo arrivo, cosa che non abbiamo riscontrato nella signora alla reception che ci ha a malapena chiesto chi fossimo per poterci dare le chiavi.

Comfy old hotel with what you expect

Room 2 - basic room on second floor d floor above kitchen (rooms 1-4) - clean and functional.

Sadly, I can’t recommend anyone stay here. In fact, at least some rooms should not be allowed to be let. At least rooms 1-4 on the second floor above the kitchen remain at sauna temps all the time. (Spoke with my neighbors). Heat flows up, as it does, but the rooms have inadequate ventilation to deal with the crushing heat. There are windows, but no screens to keep out the midge clouds that can come, and there is no air flow - which there easily could be if there were internal transom’s windows above the door into the hall where there is another window. I took to wedging a wooden hanger under my door to keep it open to allow the cool outdoor air to flush out the heat - but that’s temporary. I had difficulty sleeping it was so hot (other reviews mention the heat). It was under 50 Fahrenheit / 10 Celsius or colder out. No heat turned on in my room. There is no mechanical fan ventilation or AC to deal with the building’s heat problems. This is all sad because the rest of the hotel is quite adequate - nice motel quality 2 star place. Room had recently been updated and all worked - should have bedside lamps because the only option are the intensely bright overhead LED lights or blackness. Breakfast was quite decent. But I saw area B&B options where members of my tour stayed and they were all much nicer. Stay there until this hotel states it has addressed the known heat problems and lack of necessary ventilation. If that happens, this would be a very solid choice.

Very pricy for what it was. The hotel lacked the country ambience we expected. Parking was an issue during a very busy period in Portree. Faulty smoke alarm system kept most of the hotel up one night.

Von „Royal“ ist nichts zu merken. Wie aus dem letzten Jahrhundert und seither nichts mehr erneuert. Kein Lift, W-LAN hat in unserem Zimmer nicht funktioniert, keine Nachtischlampe, nur eine Deckenleuchte, Duschvorhang und eine komplett durchgelegene, desolate Matratze. Bei einem Preis von 250€ pro Nacht einfach unverschämt.

We have never stayed in a hotel as bad as this Royal Hotel. There was no parking nearby, so we had to walk 500 meters uphill with our luggage. There was no elevator either, meaning we had to carry our suitcases up to the first floor ourselves. The mattress was worn out—you could feel the springs poking through! The bathroom didn't have a handheld showerhead, only a rainfall shower, so my hair kept getting wet in the tiny shower stall! Also, the sink had two separate taps—one for cold water and one for hot.

Très bien situé avec un bon petit déjeuner.

Odeur désagréable dans la chambre et la salle de bain. Cuvette cassée et baignoire bouchée. L’alarme incendie qui nous réveille et qui ne cesse de sonner de 5h45 à 8h du matin, réveillant tout l’hôtel. Quand on demande ce qu’il se passe, même pas d’excuse.

Most of the staff was excellent and helpful, one was not. Comfortable with excellent food, but a little scrutando worn. Eight parking spaces for 46 rooms caused a lot of problems. The description of the property and the parking did NOT fit the reality. Overall a good stay , but very stressful about the parking situation. Definitely not worth the cost.

Breakfast was nice, in the main room downstairs. Choice of items from the menu or buffet. There is also separate restaurant which I would recommend for dinner. No elevator, but you can ask for help bringing luggage up or down.

Our room was supposed to have water view; it would be but the was obstructed by restaurant building across the street. Very old-style bathroom with bathtub/shower. Parking not so easy, there is small parking lot belonging to the hotel but just for a few cars.

Location was central and easy to commute from.

Overall a dated hotel with a need for renovation, especially given the rates being charged. Very little to offer for the price. Breakfast options also limited for vegetarians - would prefer if they kept it simple with a selection of pastries, etc and priced accordingly.

Klein 2-persoonsbed waardoor je constant op de rand lag. Hoge prijs van € 350 per kamer per nacht waar je wel enige kwaliteit voor verwacht had, bijvoorbeeld een naastgelegen parkeerplaats en een goed restaurant. Niet dus.

We arrived at the Royal Hotel in Portree and immediately found our room had clearly not been properly cleaned. The toilet was visibly soiled with feces, and the rubbish bin had not been emptied. Not exactly what you expect when checking into a hotel charging around $350 per night. I went straight to reception and explained the situation. Because it was after 5 p.m., I was told there was nobody available to clean the bathroom. The alternative offered was essentially to downgrade our room. We ended up cleaning the toilet ourselves and then discovered that the towels provided were badly worn and frayed, so we had to return to reception to get replacement towels. The following morning, we again explained what had happened to hotel staff and were assured that the room would receive a full cleaning while we were out. We returned around 5 p.m. The room had indeed been cleaned—but this time there were no towels at all. So once again, we had to go downstairs and ask for towels. On top of the housekeeping issues, the bed is very uncomfortable, especially for a room in this price range, and there is no air conditioning. I understand that air conditioning is not standard everywhere in Scotland, but at roughly $350 per night, the overall comfort level simply does not match the price being charged. What makes this particularly disappointing is that we spoke with staff on multiple shifts about the original problem, so the hotel had plenty of opportunity to make things right. Instead, something as basic as providing a clean bathroom, decent towels, and a comfortable room became a repeated issue. I understand that accommodation in Portree is expensive, particularly during peak season. But a high room rate makes basic housekeeping and comfort standards more important, not less. Guests paying this kind of money should not be cleaning a previous guest’s mess from the toilet, repeatedly going to reception for towels, or sleeping in an uncomfortable bed.

The premium room had very poor wifi - we asked multiple times and were told they’d reboot the system- on check-out we were told it was a known issue in our room from before we arrived!!! Disappointing as it was an expensive place to stay - also they couldn’t turn off the heating system and it was summer- we couldn’t leave windows open as it’s a busy street with traffic and people- the room was on street level.

The view from our room was absolutely stunning and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel has no lift, and having a lift would make this hotel excellent think a lift can easily be installed as the layout of the hotel permits it, even from the side or back

De ligging. De heren bij het (karige)ontbijt waren vriendelijk.

De prijs. Het was de enige mogelijkheid nog in Portree. Maar 300€ per nacht met een ontbijtje waar je je echt niks bij moet voorstellen, zo karig, is toch echt veels te duur. Het hotel is erg oud en kan wel een opfris beurt gebruiken. Geen airco op de kamer en het raam ging niet open waardoor het heel warm was op de kamer. Nee de volgende keer of eerder boeken bij een andere locatie of Portree overslaan.

Lovely old school family hotel in a perfect location. Beds and pillows were comfortable, staff very helpful. Excellent breakfast.

Supply and demand dictates a high price for this hotel but the facilities could use an update.

Conveniently situated. Our room overlooked the bay very nice view. Most staff friendly reception & cleaning. Breakfast had been kept warm a long time . Following morning asked for fresh cooked was ok.

I definitely don't recommend this hotel. No elevator, no air conditioning, no towel change after the first 24 hours, no proper breakfast, no friendly staff, no possibility of getting a twin bed room despite requesting one, which is only the location

We got a very nice view of the harbour, and the room was pretty. The breakfast was included in the price and was delicious.

Best location In Portree. Room was spacious. Full Highland breakfast was of typical quality. Other options included hot & cold smoked salmon with eggs.

They made you ask to get your room serviced. Only instant coffee in room and breakfast coffee not much better. Towels were grey and thin. Only 8 free parking spots, so we had to pay for parking in municipal lot. Mattress was thin. That said the room was dark cool and quiet so we slept well.

Nonostante alcune recensioni poco positive a noi questo hotel è piaciuto tantissimo. Ti fa immaginare in un'atmosfera alla "wes anderson". Camera pulita e ampia, posizione nel centro della cittadina e con un comodo parcheggio vicino. Personale super disponibile colazione e cena ottimi.

I can't think of a more perfect place for our needs, which involved accessibility for my husband. The room had a sofa and chairs and closets! Beautifully decorated. Breakfast and staff were superb.

It's a very busy corner of town, but it was fun to listen to all the different languages from our bedroom window.

La cama muy incómoda. Para aparcar fue horrible, el pueblo está masificado y para el hotel grande que es solo tiene un parking privado que entrarán unos 7 coches, tuve que estar dando vueltas para aparcar un buen rato. Y está bastante anticuado las instalaciones.

Bathroom: uncomfortable to move around and to use the sink. Missing toilet brush: basic item to have in a toilet especially if sharing the bathroom with others when not staying at the hotel on your own.

Staff lovely, stayed in the new part of the hotel so the room was clean and tidy. Great location to visit Skye.

Nonostante la struttura sia datata, sono evidenti i tentativi per svecchiarla. Il letto è piuttosto comodo e comunque ampio, la vista sul porto della nostra camera era bellissima e gli asciugamani molto morbidi. La colazione è varia e molto buona. Inoltre una sera abbiamo cenato al ristorante dell’ hotel e devo dire che ne siamo rimasti piacevolmente soddisfatti.

Le prix était exorbitant comme dans toute la région... Le personnel n' est pas très souriant et les serveurs n ont pas une tenues correctes ( survêtement ).

Old run down hotel, most expensive we paid for in 2 weeks in Scotland and by far the least desirable. This place needs an upgrade. Beds are sad. TV has very few channels, mostly BBC news. The location is the only thing going for it. Tried to get in restaurant, but always full of outside guests.

Location and breakfasts. There was no street noise despite being in a ground floor room.

Price. We were committed to pay the high price as there were few options left when we booked. Squeaky floorboards.

Central location for Portree, very clean, the premium room had plenty of space.

The facilities in the room could have been a little better. A small fridge would have been a useful addition, especially for a three-night stay. We also felt the price was quite expensive for the length of our stay. Unfortunately, we were travelling during a very busy period and didn’t have much choice when it came to accommodation. The staff were excellent.

Pessima l’accoglienza, cattivo odore ovunque, ingresso, scale, corridoi, e ancor peggio nelle stanze. Moquette vecchia rovinata e maleodorante. Bagno indecente, anni 60 nemmeno ben tenuto, con doccia un unico bocchettone che spara acqua in una vasca con tenda. Igienicamente pessimo. Linoleum rovinato in terra. Allego le foto del bagno e capirete perché non ci siano foto dei bagni su Booking. Siamo partiti per avendo pagato due notti, prima del tempo per venire via da questo posto terribile

Location was very good and the breakfast staff were very friendly.

It was very expensive for an outdated property and was impossible not to freeze or burn your hands when washing them in the bathroom. The Wifi did not reach our room (we were in the ground floor).

Colazione molto buona, buffet libero con bevande calde, yogurt, cereali, frutta e biscotti, più un piatto caldo a scelta preparato dalla cucina (highland full breakfast, waffle, breakfast rolls, o salmone). Posizione molto centrale con una vista bellissima sul porto. L'hotel ha un parcheggio privato, anche se ha una decina scarsa di posti e tende a riempirsi subito.

Il rapporto qualità-prezzo è basso: è vero che ci siamo stati in agosto e che c'erano gli Highland Games il giorno dopo, ma il prezzo non giustifica una struttura molto più vecchia di come appariva dalle foto, e uno staff abbastanza disinteressato (a differenza dei due che ci hanno seguito per la colazione, che sono stati attenti nel rispettare le mie richieste: siccome sono incinta, non potevo mangiare alcune cose e loro si sono dimostrati attenti). La posizione è sì centrale, ma Portree è talmente piccola che è difficile trovarne una non centrale. La camera era pulita, ma l'illuminazione era pessima e le prese distanti dal letto, probabilmente proprio perché pensata in vecchio stile. Inoltre, attenzione perché non rifanno la camera di default: devi lasciare l'asciugamano davanti alla tua porta se desideri che la puliscano. Oltre 500 euro in due notti, e ti devo pure dire di rifare la camera?

Paid extra for "Sea view", which was a disappointment as it was literally a porthole view. Was expecting something more. Hotel definitely needs updating, i.e., specifically interior, carpeting, wall color, etc. Breakfast offerings were okay but not very tasty, especially compared to other hotel breakfasts.
