Hotel Azucena

What a lovely small hotel near the center of Oaxaca! The staff are such kind people and very helpful with any questions you might have about Oaxaca. The rooftop terrace is magical

Las personas que trabajan son muy amables y muy cordiales

All staff was amazing. We felt like at home.

Very friendly staff. Clean room.

The personal very friendly and helpful. The place very cute and clean . Make me feel at home in a Oaxaca style. Definitely a good place and good price.

I had a wonderful stay! The staff was so kind and friendly. The room was comfortable and quiet. The terrace was gorgeous. A great place to have coffee in the morning and do a little reading. Location was also perfect. Everything I wanted to do was a quick 10-15 minute walk from the hotel.

I liked the location of the property, the beds were comfortable and clean linen.

Did not noticed we had no tv until like the fourth day, themm by ladies are very lovely they deserve your business!

Azucena’s hotel is a nice little hotel, is located near Oaxaca centro, walkable distance to museums and restaurants. The employees at the hotel were very nice and helpful.

Hotel Azucenas was a wonderful place to stay. Everyone was friendly and helpful, making me feel welcomed. If you’re to Oaxaca, I’d definitely stay here.

I loved the communication and especially the attention.

Very old worldly, rustic, bohemian and romantic( no tv). Did not miss the AC, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the place very charming and location is walking distance from downtown but away from the noise and crowd.

Perfectly located, staffed, and quality. Great find!

Everyone working at Azucena was very friendly and helpful. Everything was just as presented in Expedia. The room was clean. The patio area where breakfast is available was pleasant and relaxing. It was a good place to have a beer in the afternoon or evening at the "honor bar", where you serve yourself. The hotel is 8 blocks from the Zocalo, and there are many places nearby to eat or drink

The hotel is very nice and quiet, the staff is very friendly and attentive we found some ants but the staff resolve the situation immediately, we recommended this hotel with out doubts @

We really enjoy this hotel, the bed was very confortable, the room was very clean , the staff very attentive and friendly, the only thing was the little ants but the staff resolve the issue immediately, if you are planing to visit Oaxaca we recommend 100 % the azucenas hotel !

Great location, great service and great value for money. If you need a basic hotel you won’t need spending too much time in, you can’t find much better. Good rooms and a lovely terrace, the service is 5 star

Quaint

Very friendly staff

Great value. We stayed only one night. Basic but with charm. Window opens only to inner court. Large bed. Basic bath. Very convenient. Very nice and helpful people.

My wife and I had the good fortune to stay an entire month at Azucenas. In that time we experienced the warmest, most gracious hospitality from every member of the beautiful staff. We felt cared for and at home. We will not hesitate to stay there again on our next trip to Oaxaca.

Lovely hotel that is so welcoming that it makes you feel like you're staying at a friend's home. Terrace is the highlight that has a great view of the city and an incredible number of plants

Excelente trato, muy amables.

This is a lovely little hotel. The highlight is the roof terrace filled with plants and flowers and where they serve a very nice breakfast including eggs. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I’d definitely go back.

Beautiful old style hotel, very convenient to el Centro, and lovely staff.

The boutique hotel was very quaint and it offered a rooftop deck. The rooms were clean and maid service was provided everyday. They also offer a Continental breakfast for a small fee, per person. We also had the option of storing a few drinks and some food in the community fridge in the upstairs kitchen. Overall it was about 6 blocks to the town center. I would stay again.

Azucenas is a well-run 10-room hotel with superb staff for reception, breakfasts, cleaning and advising on place to eat, etc. It is conveniently located on the edge of the vibrant Oaxaca historic district, close to amazing restaurants but quieter than some of the places to stay. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the morning and early evening, looking out over the city. Azucenas is suited to travelers wanting clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient and reasonably priced accommodation in Oaxaca.

Unbelievable value for money. Lovely staff, very quaint and a pretty great location. Highly recommend.

Very clean room and comfortable roof top terrace. It’s within walking distance of the Centro district—close to restaurants, bars, cafes, and bakeries, but far enough that it’s peaceful and quiet at night. Still easy to catch a cab, and very helpful front desk staff to help you find your way around town. Would stay here again.

If we were ever to go back to Oaxaca we would definitely be booking with them again, nothing beats the feeling of feeling like you’re at home, and every staff member made us feel that way. Since day one to the last day they treated us excellent. I loved the hotels decoration, everything was working perfectly, we had breakfast for two days and it was delicious. Definitely will recommend them. Shout to Amanda she was phenomenal, always there for us and for what ever we needed. Muchas gracias por todo!

Very nice cozy place to stay and the staff is especially friendly and helpful.

Great customer service! They lent us umbrellas for the rain and were super friendly 💖

Good location, good service

It is a 10 room hotel family operated and always available to help and guide visitors. Both Sylvia and Clara were welcoming attentive. Breakfast is made very morning at the request of the guest with one day advance notice at a very reasonable additional fee. Roof terrace is very comfortable with beer, water and soft drinks available on the honor system. Coffee and tea are no charge. Hotel location is walkable to the center of town, zocalo and to the artesian district. Many restaurant choices at all price levels the Hotel sits at the edge of a neighborhood and across the street from a small neighborhood school. Several neighborhood coffee house locations and small restaurants serving the neighborhood. We stayed 10 days and will stay there again if we have the opportunity to return to Oaxaca.

My stay was pleasant. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Amazing view from the rooftop and to sit for awhile to relax. The hotel is safe and easy to get to places by foot; can arrange a quick ride when needed.

Azucena was better than it looked online—the room was perfect for my weekend stay in Oaxaca. In a great neighborhood, walkable to everything—Oaxaca is not too big and everything in el centro is pretty walkable and pretty to walk through :) Also, the staff was lovely! Very kind and helpful, and the breakfast is great and super affordable—I wish I'd been able to enjoy it more!

Very clean, friendly staff, no TV

Super friendly, clean and great rooftop breakfast available.

Staff super friendly & accommodating. Very walkable to restaurants & sights.

We ahve stayed 3 times at Hotel Azucena & it is or favorite place in Oaxaca. It's quiet, comfortable the stasff is great & breakfast on the terrace is wonderful .

A nice, inexpensive hotel option. The room was clean and the staff was really kind. The facilities were ok: the wifi didn’t work almost at all.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The staff was awesome, especially Amanda. The only thing I wish is that they had air-conditioning because it was quite a bit hot. Other than that everything here was perfect and it’s a beautiful place I would definitely come again.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is an easy walk to the center. The staff were absolutely lovely and take great pride in caring for their guests.

Hotel Azucenas is a small family owned hotel. It is beautiful in color and very welcoming. It is also extremely clean. The staff is very friendly and always available to help. It is about a 16 minute walk to El Zocalo and the near by restaurants are delicious! Two of my favorite and a must are Humar and Sicilia Pizza y Pasta. There is also a small "cenaduria" Just across the street. Overall my husband and I loved it and will definitely plan to stay at Hotel Azucenas again. Thank you.

The person at the front desk was helpful and friendly. We left the rooftop area and self-service cold drinks. It's a quaint place. Nothing fancy but very Mexican.

This is a cute property: centrally located and walking distance to restaurants, vendors, zocalo and more. Staff are sweet, honest, kind people that treat you like family. Property and room is very clean. The only set back is that it doesn’t have A/C. Other than that is great! I recommend it

Centrally located. Walking distance to many great places. Personal is super amigable and treat you like family.

The staff is very helpful and kind. The location of the hotel can be beat.

We had a wonderful time for our 9 days at Hotel Azucenas. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast for 90 pesos or 100 pesos with eggs is filling and delicious. We had yogurt, fresh fruits, delicious rolls, butter and jam, fresh orange juice and Clara’s excellent eggs when we were extra hungry. We ate outside on the rooftop terrace with the sun coming up and warming us. Very good coffee is available for most of the day. Beer and soda is available on the honor system anytime for a reasonable price. Our room had a nice bathroom with large shower and a very comfortable bed and large closet. Some of the rooms have a small window, but ours hada nice window looking at the patio. hotel is up the hill from The Zocalo and has a good view. It is also very convenient to everything. Love it and want to go back

I loved our stay at Hotel Azucena. The location is ideal, within walking distance of everything but on a quiet street. The rooftop is incredible and just what you want after a day exploring the city - a perfect place to drink a beer and watch the sunset. There is a fridge with cold drinks for purchase and breakfast is available in the morning for a small charge. The staff was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. The value for money is exceptional. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Everything was good, except that the room didn’t have a tv.

This small hotel is spotlessly clean with a small inner courtyard with a wonderful roof top terrace for breakfast! The staff are so very friendly! The breakfast is delicious! Our room was small but perfect for the two of us. Thank you to Clara, Marisol and Edson!

Great location. Very helpful staff.

We enjoyed our stay at Azucenas primarily because the staff were excellent and went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay. They moved us to a more convenient room without us asking and helped us with an excellent laundry service. The staff provided recommendations for where and how to get around and were always ready to assist. The hotel was warm and accommodating with a lovely rooftop with views across the valley and the city. There was also a lovely kitchenette where we could prepare breakfast overlooking the rooftop. The only slight drawback was that the doors being vented meant that they weren’t soundproof so we were often woken early in the morning by the sounds of the cleaning staff at work in the courtyard and kitchen. Other than that, a really pleasant stay!

We had a great stay at Hotel Azucenas. The staff were very helpful and we loved the rooftop garden and courtyard (with turtles in the fountain!). The room was comfortable and clean.

We both loved our stay here. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the terrace was a fabulous place to sit for breakfast and later just to relax. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The mezcal was delicious. The location excellent.

Great location if you’re active. Very comfortable and quiet at night. Friendly helpful staff.

The property was very sweet, small, well taken care of, great staff, and roof top breakfast and coctails. Well located in the city.

Staff was so helpful & it was also so convenient to rsvp for excursions through them. Thank you we’ll be returning.

Very small hotel!

nice location, very kind staffs, clean and affordable.

Room was well equipped , clean and quite at nite time .

Our stay at Hotel Azucenas was fantastic. The hotel is a lovely traditional Mexican style. The location is great, about a 10 minute walk to the main square, a being a little distance away its much quieter than other hotels. All of the staff (and the resident turtles!) were super friendly, always happy to go above and beyond. I would definitely recommend staying here and would stay there again in s heartbeart.

Beautiful hotel , excellent service

Maravillosa estancia. Nos hemos sentido como en casa.

Nice and clean

The staff is awesome at this hotel and it is small cozy. They were patient with me practicing my Spanish with them. During my stay I got food poisoning and I needed to eat, but all I was craving was fruit and I didn’t have any. The young man at the front desk offered to get me some because I was too exhausted to walk to the market. Clara made sure breakfast was ready everything and even offered me homemade tamales. I would definitely stay with them again. The location is good and right next to the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad y La Oaxacaqueña Neveria and 7 blocks from the Zocalo.

Was a beautiful old family home. Transform to a hotel. Friendly people.

I loved that we could walk everywhere and how safe it is.

This is a small friendly hotel with individualised attention and help, very well located.

The staff makes this place, they did everything possible to make me feel at home. Also the location is perfect, close enough to the zocalo to get there on foot in a few minutes but far enough away to avoid the noise. Once you get your mind around the concept that you are in a third world country and embrace the differences, this will be an unforgettable experience

Amazing stay, friendly and helpful staff! Enjoyed my stay at Hotel Azucena!

What a wonderful jewel in the heart of Oaxaca! We loved everything about our stay here and look forward to returning.

Cet hotel est bien situé. J'aime le quartier tranquille, le personnel aimable et les mesures éco-responsables.

The staff was very warm and helpful. Great location, about a 10 minute walk to the Zocalo. Optional breakfast on the terrace was very reasonable and pleasant. Rooms are basic, no TV or AC. Some ground floor rooms don't have a window or skylight.

The Azucena is a really sweet hotel with a wonderful 2nd story garden patio that looks out over Oaxaca and the beautiful mountains surrounding it. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful and our room was clean and taken care of each day. We loved our stay there!

Hotel Azucenas is a small, friendly lodging. Lively during the day and quiet at night. Comfortable walking distance to museums, many mercados, artisanal craft shops, dining and the historic Zocalo. I enjoyed the personable staff and clean facility. Will stay again.

Great hotel to rest and relax without tv and a nice view of the city from the terrace

It was close to everything and the rooftop was a very nice touch to it. Safe. Close to everything.

property was beautifully decorated and presented in a traditional style. Staff were very helpful and courteous. It was very quiet and close to everything. Would highly recommend.

Stay was amazing! Front desk and staff went above and beyond to meet all needs, even offered bug spray when we were going to sit out in the rooftop patio. Rooms are simple. No TVs or AC, but they provide free wifi and fans. Close enough to walk to restaurants, bars and Zocalo. Area was safe and quiet. Would absolutely stay here again!

We felt so welcome at Azucena. The women who run this charming place are wonderful :-) Nice room, nice rooftop terrasse, excellent breakfast.

Clean and friendly! Excellent vibe!

Great location, very friendly and welcoming staff. The lush rooftop garden has a beautiful cityscape view.Nice breakfast.

Beautiful, all of it. Small, quaint. Felt very cozy and comfortable. Excellent service.

A very nice little place near the center of town, and the hostess is very friendly and accomodating. There's a nice rooftop patio too. WiFi was quite good for work-from-home, though there were a couple patchy spots where I had to switch networks. I think there are 3 modems for 10 rooms, which is pretty good. Note that Hotels.com lists "Airport Shuttle", but there isn't one, so I had a surprise 370 peso expense for an overpriced airport cab (I missed the last group shuttle). Also note that you need to ring the doorbell to go in and out. Didn't cause any problems for me and the hostess was always quick, but I imagine it could be inconvenient if you're coming in and out very early or late.

Very relaxed, homey place. Nothing fancy but very adequate, with a rooftop terrace. Some rooms without windows, though. Staff very friendly and helpful

The staff was great. I sustained an injury my second day in Oaxaca. The hotel staff was very concerned, especially Sylvia who went way out of her way to ensure I was as comfortable as I could be under the circumstances. They even made me some chicken with rice soup. The hotel is ideally located a few blocks from the hub bub. The restaurant Boulenc 3 blocks away has great pastries. Upstairs on the patio where the optional basic continental breakfast is served, also has a refrigerator well stocked with drinks — soda and beer — for evening relaxation. Also there is a cooler of purified water for refilling your water bottle. It’s understandable why Hotel Azucenas is so highly recommended. It’s deserved.

Lovely roof garden where a delicious breakfast is served and with drinks and beer available, nice interior garden with lovely decorations

We could not have found a happier place to stay in Oaxaca. We had a nice room, simple with comfortable bed. Location perfect, the owner and staff charming and helpful. The terrace was full of flowers and colour and made breakfast a wonderful bright start to each day. Being able to use it at all times of day and night for coffee or a beer was a great asset and pleasure.

It was great. We already sent you a review of our stay.

Good location block from Soledad cathedral, close to Rufino Tamayo museum, walking distance from Zocalo, all historic center sights. Room a bit claustrophobic feeling with no windows. Rooms that did have windows also admiitted more ambient noise. Sound from upstairs eating area travelled directly into room due to courtyard design. Bed could be softer. Breakfast a good value for about $4 including eggs to order. Staff friendly, helpful with taxi. Upstairs patio has great partial view of city lights.

Friendly staff, great location with a great brewpub and coffee shop within 5 min walk

It’s an amazing place where the staff makes you feel at home. It’s cozy, clean, extremely peaceful and endearing. I will definitely come back.

Excellence

Loved the family atmosphere and the warmness of the staff. They were extremely helpful and accommodating. By the end of my stay, I had made many new friends!

Hotel Azucena is located at the edge of the historic district; you'll have a short walk to the Zocolo, museums and shopping but still have a quiet neighborhood feel. The staff are very attentive and helpful. The upstairs terrace is lovely for breakfast, or just sitting out in the evening and watching the sunset, or the city lights after dark. I found the nearby church and school bells pleasant, but some might be bothered by them. Also, the building behind the hotel has a dog that barks routinely at 6 AM. It only lasted a minute or two and made for an efficient alarm.

The hotel has such great reviews that I'm very disappointed that we had a bad experience. We arrived at 4pm to check in and were shown to our room (#3). Immediately we saw that the bedsheets were very dirty. There were short black hairs all over the sheets and pillow cases, as well as dirt that had to be brushed off of the bed. The bathroom wasn't very clean either; the shower was also covered in a layer of dirt. My partner and I were really unhappy with the level of cleanliness - it was fine to stay one night but we ended up cancelling our following three more nights. We were quite disappointed but hope that this is a unique case as I think the hotel would be a good budget stay otherwise.
