Hawklee Country House

Our stay was amazing, this was the second time stay, I was so very happy, Tanya was the best host as last time, we are looking forward to coming back next time, it feels better than my home, well done Tanya.

Tanya ist eine sehr aufmerksame und fürsorgliche Gastgeberin. Die Beratung war sehr gut. Die Unterkunft hat ein sehr geschmackvolles Ambiente. Das Zimmer und das Bad waren sehr geräumig. Für Comfort wurde mit einer Heizdecke im Bett und einem beheizbaren Handtuchhalter und Bademänteln gesorgt. Die Aussicht auf den Fluss ist sehr schön. Das Frühstück ist ausgezeichnet. Tanja dekoriert viel mit Blüten. Man bekam einen Begrüßungs-Sherry. Das WLAN ist sehr gut. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden wiederkommen.

Made us feel like we were staying home from home.... Tanya and Shaun were so welcoming! We really enjoyed the cozy Shenanigans pub, walking along the river and also thee MOST delish brekkies each morning. Thank you!!

Excellent hospitality from the hostess, Tanya. She was prepared and willing to accede to our meal requests as we had specific diet requirements. The cottage was well equipped with all the necessary amenities. Hawklee is situated in a serene and peaceful country setting with trees and a meandering river. It is an ideal location to intend and relax.

We love this place, location is perfect just out of Nottingham road, peaceful, lovely river view from our spa bath , just amazing. A great new addition to the Hawklee County House is the Braai area - fantastic idea.

Hawklee is perfectly situated for anyone trying to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life. You are greeted by the friendliest hosts who truly make you feel welcome. The breakfast is absolutely delicious and sets you up for a wonderful day of activities.

The property is the perfect location for anyone attending events at Waterwoods Equestrian. The room was comfortable and warm with lovely tea and coffee provided, Tanya is a wonderful host.

Has potential but need maintenance

Booked a room with a spa bath which didn’t work and we were not told it was out of order the bath is the fhighlight of the room and the reason you book there is black mould in the bath which could easily be cleaned very disappointed as we booked this room as a spoil to relax

We had an incredible stay at Hawklee! Our hostess Tanya, was wonderfully friendly and helpful, and was in touch well in advance to make arrangements. The location was idyllic and overlooked the beautiful Lions River, with the opportunity to explore. The facilities were wonderful, with lots of thoughtful extras and personal touches, and the breakfast was amazing. All in all, a fantastic place to stay, and definitely somewhere we'd love to return to.

EVERYTHING!!! On this holiday, we toured around South Africa, and our last stop here was the ultimate highlight. The view was spectacular, overlooking the river and lush vegetation. The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The complimentary tea, coffee, milk and chocolate was a lovely touch. Every morning we were pleasantly surprised by a different breakfast, thoughtfully catered to our dietary requirements. The hosts were amazing - We received a warm welcome from Sean, and his wife Tanya, was simply incredible: super friendly and very helpful. The stay truly deserves a 10/10 !!!

Breakfast was lovely with the breakfast room having a view of the Lions River and birds in the morning. Sean and Tanya are excellent hosts personally overseeing breakfast and accommodating us on vegetarian options with different daily main meals. The coffee is great as is the service.

The Martin's are amazing host. Our rondoval was very large with a small kitchen and bath. Breakfast was 5 Stars!!!

From the genuinely warm welcome from Tanya & Shaun to the easy check in, the super comfortable beds, the divine breakfast & the peaceful walk along the river banks, our stay was a time of refreshing & reconnecting. A shout out to Tanya for catering to my diet needs. Totally appreciated this.

We had a wonderful bungalow complete with a jacuzzi bath.Very spacious and had everything we required.Tanya was a fabulous host..very attentive and took time showing us around etc.The breakfasts were amazing so certainly recommend taking this option.

Nothing really.The only comment I would make is that the facility is 13kms from the centre on Nottingham road and last few kms are on a dirt road.It wasn't an issue for us but may not suit people looking to be closer to the centre of the action.

The setting is so beautiful with gorgeous gardens and the river. Hawklee is the most peaceful and restful place. The attention to detail from Tanya and Shawn, the very hands on owners, was excellent. Bath salts next to the bath, flowers tucked into the towels, a bottle of sherry - just amazing. It was my husband and my birthdays and they gave us each a delicious bar of Wedgewood nougat. The breakfasts were outstanding, fresh hot breakfast with fabulous coffee! The bed was a great size and very comfortable. Our room had a microwave and dishes so we bought dinner and heated it. Very nice if you don't feel like driving at night. Tanya's care and hospitality were exceptional! Her Whatsapps before we arrived were so helpful. She's so amazing!

The place was unreal. So beautiful with the river rushing through trees. The bed was completely luxurious and the attention to detail outstanding. The biscuits given with tea were home made, as were the scented shower bombs - just amazing. I asked for a takeaway breakfast which Tanya happily provided which was delicious. One of the best places I've stayed in South Africa. Would 100% go back.

One night was too short at Hawklee Country House. We would love to return one day. We stayed in the cute rose cottage. We loved all the attention to detail, even down to the pretty flowers in the room and on each of the towels. We were also given some complimentary shortbread, and it was so delicious. The house is right next to a gorgeous, bubbling river and we went for a short, but beautiful nature walk along the river. The walk is especially designed to help you relax and unwind with twelve little stops along the way. We loved the Bible verses the hostess gave us to meditate on at each stop. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. The hostess recommended some places where we could have dinner, but she provided us with the most satisfying and delicious breakfast in the morning. We enjoyed listening to the peaceful music while we ate, and all the beautiful bird sounds.

Perfect in every way

Breakfast was excellent and consisted of two courses with beautifully cooked and presented egg dishes and well presented fruit and yoghurt compote. A main meal plus desert may be ordered the day before at a further charge if desired. We had two of these meals in the diningroom and food was tasty homecooked and high quality. If you like a olde worlde place with loads of charm and character and perfect peace then this is the place for you.

Tanya was the best host. This place is fantastic. Her fine touch is everywhere. She gave us detailed directions, her friendly welcome contributed to this scenic, beautiful surroundings and stay. The breakfast was excellent and stylish. You need not to.look any further for accommodation. This was next level.

The accomodation was super cute, the owner very nice and the breakfast delicious. The location near the river is very quiet and peaceful.

We were there in June (Winter time in south Africa) and it was very cold outside (4°C at night), and we were freezing in the accomodations too. Also it's a bit far from drakenserbger mountains because it's about 1 hour but the road are in terrible conditions (holes everywhere, no concret, dusty, muddy, full of rocks), so if you want to go to Drakensberg you might want to book something closer.

Tanya is a kind & generous host & made our stay on a cold Midlands night very comfortable. We'll definitely be back in warmer weather to explore the Lions River running through the property.

We stayed at a few places over our week holiday, and we received the absolute best service at Hawklee. They go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. We received handmade bath salts and shower bombs. We had complimentary sherry in our room, with handmade biscuits and chocolates next to bed. There was cold drinking water in our fridge and next to each bed. The indoor Jacuzi was great. They have an irish bar on site with very affordable prices. There are games and books in every room. The rooms are beautiful and you can hear the river from your room, so loud it sounds like the ocean. The best is Tanya's food. You will not regret eating breakfast and dinner at Hawklee.

It happened to be excessively hot while we were there so we had to sleep with a very noisy fan as there is no air-conditioning. If you don't do well in extreme heat, go when it's cooler. Pillows were not very comfortable.

The property features picturesque views of the river and a welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal location for a peaceful retreat. I reserved the Owl double room chalet, which includes a comfortable king-sized bed as well as a sofa bed. The accommodation was well-appointed with considerate amenities, such as a spa tub, soundproofing for enhanced privacy, a private entrance, and a cozy sitting area. Additional conveniences, including a flat-screen television, minibar, and electric blankets, further contributed to our comfort, while kitchen appliances such as a microwave, toaster, and electric kettle provided a sense of home-like convenience. For outdoor relaxation, the room is complemented by a patio furnished with dining furniture and a barbecue setup, perfect for enjoying the scenic surroundings. My reservation encompassed two nights during the New Year festivities. I appreciated the flexibility of their check-in and check-out policies, as we overslept by one hour and were graciously accommodated with a 12 PM check-out by the owners. Hawklee Country House also offers complimentary Wi-Fi and private parking, enhancing the overall convenience of the stay. The tranquil setting of the location, coupled with its array of comforts, promises a delightful escape to commence the New Year. I eagerly anticipate the experience and the opportunity to unwind amidst such scenic and well-equipped surroundings.

While our time at Hawklee Country House was enjoyable, there are several areas where the experience could be further improved. Firstly, the reservation did not encompass a diverse meal provisions, necessitating that guests arrange their own dining options or minimal on site offering. The introduction of wider meal plans would greatly enhance convenience and create a more cohesive guest experience. Secondly, during the New Year’s countdown from midnight until approximately 11:00 am, there was a lack of network reception. This interruption rendered it impossible to upload content to our social media accounts during this period. Reliable network connectivity, particularly during such significant events, would greatly enrich the experience for guests wishing to share their memories in real time. Addressing these matters could render a stay at Hawklee Country House even more enjoyable and accommodating for future visitors.
