The staff were very friendly and helpful
Great location
Shower overflowed and partially flooded the bathroom. Noisy clanging from the flagpoles. Got shifted to another room, only single bed, the window was broken and wouldn't open, fan in room also broken. Shower was in the bath under a coombe ceiling, so adjusting the taps almost required contortionist skills. Manager on Duty said would refund half of booking price, but haven't heard anything back yet. Staff were friendly in trying to resolve issue, but the hotel itself was the issue, not the staff.
Location and view, price was ok. Iron and ironing board in wardrobe.
We were greeted by a sad looking receptionist, no welcome or smile. Thick black mould on the inside of ancient windows that you couldn't open. Very dated with cheap furniture and in need of some money and proper insight to become a great place. Couldn't sit on the bed without bruising your thighs due to the bed frame (why have a bed like this?) We booked same day and arrived around 5.30, went down to have dinner but surprised to be told they were only doing dinner for 'package' deals. Luckily the chef was able to fit us in to a mostly empty dining room with no character. This hotel needs help to become fabulous. Ask the 'Hotel Inspector' to help. Otherwise ok.
staff were welcoming and the fish and chips were tasty
room was very dated (210) damp patch on the wall near the window, an old and used paper hanky on the coffee board, bed was just about comfy enough to get a decent kip, soap and shower gel very low - which gives concerns about when they were last checked. general cleanliness of the room was average at best. very much trading on its location - price per night didn't match the experience or facilities
A good feature of the room was that it had two comfortable chairs. Often, you find one of you has to sit on the bed to watch the TV.
Imposantes Hotel, das in die Jahre gekommen ist. Für den Zustand zu teuer. Personal, eine junge motivierte Frau für Rezeption und Bar. Frühstücksbuffet sehr gut.
The location is terrific for views, but a challenge to get there on foot, it would be wonderful if the bus to Portpatrick would stop there. Unfortunately the hotel is showing signs of deterioration, and I wonder how much longer this hotel will be in business. Looks like a major investment to refurbish is needed. We did enjoy our stay there very much, because of the views.
Walking from the bus stop with luggage is challenging, perhaps the hotel could offer a shuttle from town.
Comfy. Clean. Smells nice. Good polite staff. More than willing to help.
Prices off drinks are way expensive.
The bar and lounge area
The first room we were offered was tiny and smelled we did not unpack but when we came back from a walk the smell was still there I went to reception and they offered us an alternative that was night and day compared to the first one
The situation and the view.
My room smelt musty and stale- windows couldn’t be opened to admit fresh air. Staff apathetic and completely indifferent to the needs of a disabled elderly guest- the receptionist didn’t even look up from her computer screen or greet me - which summed up the general attitude of the staff as a whole. When I looked into the breakfast room and saw the tired array of offerings ( processed synthetic yogurt, no muesli or granola and limited choice of fruit) I fled and decided not to eat here. Clearly once upon a time this was a grand place to stay. No more! Do they not realise that this is supposed to be a hospitality business?
The staff were friendly and helpful. The lady on the desk re roomed me to a better room, it was slightly better than the first room I was given. Although the carpet was very stained and leak patches on ceiling and damp carpet the overall cleanliness was ok, apparently they are reconditioning rooms. It was cheap so I suppose you get what you pay for
The pictures do not capture the room condition, I appreciate it is an old building but the rooms are dark, some have that old smell, carpets stained, leak patches on ceiling, again appreciate it is an old building but the pictures don’t show a true image
Location and view were great. Liked the extra turret space off the room but in need of new windows and decoration.
Noisey radiator, draughty windows, smell of damp in the room and layout of bathroom very awkward and small. Shower absolutely hopeless.
The view from the room was exceptional - harbour and sea view from the bed. The location of the hotel is perfect and that was why I rated it so highly despite the fact that the hotel itself was old and tired and you had to run the shower for over 2 minutes before any hot water came out, which on the first day resulted in me thinking it was not working. The staff were very friendly, though they were all teenagers. All in all the price was worth every penny for the view - from the rom and the terrace bar area it was exceptional.
There is no question the hotel is old and tired, but the location and view made up for it. The car park was free because the cameras weren't working, but that would have been a big irritation if I had been charged parking as well as the cost of the hotel stay, seeing as it is the car park of the hotel.
Absolutely stunning property, In a gorgeous location with the most helpful and lovely staff.
Property wasn’t the most modern but that’s to be expected. Still an exceptional stay.
The location & being close to the Ferry Port
The plumbing was awful. The noise from the pipes made it impossible to stay in the room!
Staff as always above and beyond. Also very dog friendly.
Unfortunately we struggled a bit as my partner is a wheelchair user. If 120 had a wetroom it would be fantastic! Could also do with a wheelchair ramp to the balcony.
Comment dire...?
Stunning old building, with lots of period features, view is amazing from the rooms looking down to the port. Lovely night porter whom was very polite and helpful.
I was in a single room, unable to open the window, thankfully there was a fan available as it was rather hot weather, shower over the bath which I’m not a great fan of, but perfectly adequate. Was probably nearing the end of breakfast service when I went down, not much left on the hot buffet, unfortunately, which I can understand, should have gotten up earlier 😂
Excellent stay, enjoyed the weekend and the food was great.
Lovely friendly and helpful staff . Great breakfast. Stunning views
The room was perfectly clean, a little bit tired but to be expected with an old hotel
Rooms very clean & tidy Staff very helpful and friendly Great out door seating area Over all hotel very nice and most of all very clean
Lovely welcome from the staff at the hotel. Stunning location with beautiful views of the village, harbour and sea.
The window in our room couldn’t be opened and it was a little hot.
We received a lovely welcome on arrival . Staff were very helpful . Our room was clean and comfortable with amazing views of the village, harbour and sea. Enjoyed the breakfast.
Room and hotel were a little warm.
Loved the imposing location overlooking the harbour and even a view of sea from our bedrooms. Food in the restaurant was nice.
Single rooms were very small and felt more like student accommodation. Shower was really inadequate.
Location was amazing including the view
Bed was awful including the pillows, toilet door stuck, toilet was difficult to flush, bathroom needed upgrading as did the room. Curtains didn’t fit the window and were very difficult to close
Great location.
The rooms are tired.
The staff were very nice
The bed was very uncomfortable - the frame around it made it difficult to get in - the stairs up to the hotel are very steep and have no lighting i used my mobile phone torch
Hotel is in a great location. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very good chatty and welcoming and helpful
The room was disappointing it had a sloping ceiling which restricted the room size. The windows could not be opened they were fixed with screws.
Good location, clean and friendly.
Coffee machine broken at breakfast for 2 days is inexcusable. And toaster was slow and ancient.
Location and turret room
Nothing
Location is amazing. Room size was good. Everywhere in the hotel was clean. Outside areas neat and tidy though garden borders need a good weed. All staff were very friendly and Olivia on reception was outstanding.
The outside of the building needs attention. Most windows looked like the original ones and the paint inside and out was peeling. Has been done up inside but that now needs attention. Some facilities in dining room are broken eg coffee machine, hot plate holder with large sign “caution hot plate” (just remove the sign!). Salt and pepper not filled up, cutlery missing and very poor quality, run out of museli on second day. Dinner at night had a few items that were not available. Very busy one night and clearly not enough staff to cope. Table positioning could be better as feels like a canteen. Angle all the tables not just one row.
Good location very relaxing staff were lovely would definitely go bk
Nothing
Das Abendessen war genießbar
Ganz schlechter Service Zustand vom Haus sehr alt katastrophale Fenster und Türschlüssel im Zimmer Personal sehr unfreundlich
The views, the staff and the cleanliness. Olivia was particularly helpful and pleasant
A little dated but it's a lovely building and it's trying to keep the character. The afternoon tea could have had less cakes and more food such as wraps or sausage rolls
Location
Hard bed and the request for a sea view didn’t occur
Amazing absolutely spectacular spot.
I can see some refurbishment has been going on, hopefully will continue as this beautiful building deserves to be upkept. There were two people vaping inside the hotel which I found quite disturbing. And I was surprised this was allowed?
Location is very attractive looking down over a pretty Harbour. Rooms with sea view are worth paying a bit extra for. Has a lift. The manager and staff were very helpful and friendly to us and our dog. The hotel has a dining room dedicated to Dogs!
The hotel would have been extremely grand in its day. The rooms are clean. It would be so easy to put on a bad review, as others have done, because it really does need a makeover, but the Hotel has a delightful charm that makes up for everything. The restaurant food is basic, but there are many choices outside at different venues. I would love to go back to this hotel.
A lovely hotel close to all amenities
Nothing
Top of cliff stunning views over portpatrick and the sea. Took dogs and plenty of grassy garden for running included breakfast and dinner
Had to change rooms as carpet v stained. 2nd room good. Hard to get parking space. As v busy
My room, 120 was tired and could be so much more. View outstanding
Breakfast, everything was cold including the plates. Shocking.
Staff
Hotel not a fair representation of the pictures in booking.com add run down and nothing matched the pictures booked a superior room with sea view if that's a superior one hate to think what standard room is
Location
Breakfast poor. Shortage of staff.. bathroom unclean.
Location overlooking harbour. Great dinner, drinks and breakfast.
Towel heater wasn't working. Small room size
Hotel needs updating
Rooms very old fashioned
The location was nice and the cook as well
No staff arrived in the morning so breakfast was very delayed. The cook was so nice and gave me something to go since I needed to start walking. Everything was not like the pictures and pretty run down. The window in my room would not even open
Our second stay at Portpatrick hotel and it was every bit as good as the first. Lovely sea-view ground floor room which the hotel happily switched us to before our stay due to my mobility, helpful staff, spacious room with big comfy bed, lovely cooked breakfast, very convenient parking - all in all a really good stay.
Staircase carpet could have done with a hoover, but that's being very picky.
Friendly, helpful staff
Staffing levels are marginal.
location perfect had a great week end staff first class
nothing
The room was very comfortable with an snazing view. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful also the evening restaurant staff.
No hot water was an issue at breakfast but was quickly resolved.
Great location, great views, staff were amazing
The location
The bathroom was very dated, dangerously narrow bath with overhead shower and light weight shower curtain which touched your body while showering The toilet seat was the wrong shape and size for the toilet. The silicon on the bath was mouldy.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the accommodation comfortable.
The food at breakfast was good, but very difficult to find!! When the food ran out, it wasn't replaced quickly enough. Every time a container was replaced., there was a rush to the servery!! This problem needs to be rectified.
La ubicación y las vistas de la habitación y fuera del hotel. Parking gratuito.
Habitación pequeña y con techo inclinado que aún daba más sensación de pequeña.
Breakfast could ofcbeen hotter and we were there as it was being put out first thing only thing hot was sausage and bacon ice water would be a very good option too especially in summer
The Cliff top location is superb, and it's well worth the descent/climb on the stairs to from the harbour from the Hotel car park. The staff on our last night were excellent. We enjoyed the pool table in the games room! The Terrace and seating are by reception is lovely, great place to have a coffee which we did several times. If you do book here, I would suggest it is worth paying for a sea view room unless, like us, you don't spend much time in the room at all.
The staff on our first night were poor; it took 15 mins to get 2 coffees as the bar wasn't manned, over 10 of these were the lady making our coffees, but unsure most of that time we we getting them, nor an apology for the wait. The room was not very clean but ok, stairs up to the en-suite was a big weird but it is over a 100 years old building. We didn't have breakfast there but a lot of the guest were complaining about slow restock of the buffet, and the hotel was not full. We were going to have breakfast the last day but didn't because of this and the service at the bar we had received the first night.
Beautiful Victorian hotel in a stunning location. We prefer hotels with character
For us this was the perfect 4 night stay
Sausage and bacon yummy scrambled eggs very watery, plates were cold.
Have hot plates it warned you they could be hot! But we're ice cold, bed not the size we were used it.
The staff in this hotel are an absolute credit. They are mostly very young and do more than one job on each shift but were always so helpful and always had a smile. The evening meal was really good all three nights. Good food cooked well. The location needs no words as it is absolutely stunning and pictures don't do it justice. We had a very enjoyable three night stay.
The hotel is very old which we knew and which we like. However there are some things that really need attention. Our mattress had two very big dips visible from the off and was clearly passed it usable life. . First night I just went to bed but the next day I asked reception to change it. They did indeed change it for a slightly less dipped mattress but this too was very poor, and stained. It was okay ish to sleep on but I think from several other reviews this is an area they need to address . New good quality mattresses. We had two window and a door in our room but the windows did not open and the door handle came off in your hand if you weren't careful. This isn't intended to be a negative review as we had a lovely stay and as stated the staff and great but it really does need TLC in key areas.
Great views. Large building, so very spacious.
It appeared to be run on a very tight budget. It was very understaffed. All the staff (young women) were clearly working 100% trying to manage the reception, bar, restaurant etcetera. The bar ran out of draft beer and only had a few bottles of larger and cider. There was an issue with dinner. Only those who’d booked full board could eat there as the chef was “new”. I was bed only, but had booked this hotel because of its restaurant. Thankfully Sara, sorted it out for me and we got fed. She and all the staff were excellent.
Beautiful view over the harbour and bay
A little tired decor
Great location, views were amazing.
In need of an upgrade
Location, location, location. Fabulous position overlooking the harbour, with lovely steps down to the village. A large traditional old hotel with all the problems of upkeep for such a big building, but it was clean and newly painted. Dinner, bed and breakfast deal was well priced. Guests with dogs at mealtimes accommodated in a separate dining room. Staff keen to help and cheerful. Rooms very clean and comfortable but not serviced daily. Room replenishments available at reception and happily given (once you'd found the receptionist, who may be working the bar!).
Meals quite basic but nicely cooked and presented. Staff stretched incredibly thinly, each carrying out multiple roles. At breakfast, the busiest time, staff conspicuous by their absence when food needed replenishing or the coffee machine broke down (a daily occurrence). Need an alternative way to serve coffee as this clearly happens regularly. Both dining rooms lacked some ambiance - needed background music or something. Skip outside dog lounge and dead plants on windowsills didn't help the mood. Twin room only had one bedside lamp/table - expected more from a superior room. Bathroom, whilst perfectly clean, smelt slightly of urinal, due to lack of air circulation - needed stronger fan or air freshener.
The young girl at the desk was very friendly and helpful from the start. The room was tidy and I didn't hear any noise during the night
Nothing that I can think of
The location was fantastic.
The shower was very poor. Definitely needed renewing. The breakfast was good quality but only lukewarm.
Location
Furniture and fittings very worn, widow frames were crumbling and rust on catches. No curtain inbathroom
Posizione
Offerta culinaria
The view was great
Food was very poor and cold. Coffee machine in the main dining room also did not work. The main dining room ing room was soulless. We asked for house keeping which was not automatic even though it states that if you stay 3 nights plus it is. House keeping only made the beds (which were already made), never cleaned the room or bathroom. A dirty glass was not removed. The interior of the room was poor with wallpaper peeling off and mould. The window in our other room did not open. The shower did not work on 2 separate occasions and although maintenance looked at it and it was working it stopped again. I suspect this was down to low pressure and showering at a busy time. The final straw was the receptionist refused to serve me a drink as she was listening to our conversation about going into the village later that evening. There were 3 drivers and she just presumed I would be driving. We were also going out 3 hours later so one drink would not have had an effect.
Hotel rooms were big , clean & exceptionally comfortable . Location was stunning .
Nothing - for the price we paid highly satisfied
Staff were very helpful and property must have been impressive in its day
Breakfast was very disappointing and the whole place needs updating Windows in bedroom leaked and could not open
Location was stunning. Staff were very helpful especially reception, but spread too thinly.
Tired small rooms . Could do with a makeover to match reception. Breakfast was soulless and the food was adequate . This place could be amazing if some money was spent.
View was amazing. Hotel was old but lovely.
You could never find a receptionist. Room bit small and in attic so we had to be careful because of the low rams. The duvets were ok but too small. Had breakfast in hotel one morning but it was so confusing, where was the milk for the tea, where was the milk for the cereal. Only had on machine which supplied tea and coffee so queueing. Then queuing for toast. Then no eggs ready do queueing for eggs. You don't want to be queuing ending up with a cold breakfast when you have paid £25 for two breakfasts.
Nice view, handy for port
No disabled facilities menu limited and expensive, beds hard.
I liked how we had the most perfect location & phenomenal views, in regards to the hotel staff, they were Fantastic & we had a lovely evening meal. Social Area good, a few games of pool and darts, Guest in hotel (Child) playing piano, heart felt and fantastic. Thankyou
No real entertainment, more cleanliness in hotel and in need of much repair however appreciate an old Building, repairs are a must and general maintenance of property,
Great views and nice terrace to sit at.
Steep walk to the village and very steep to walk back up the steps .
Location, Fabulous views and quaint with its own old worldly charm.
Room had a window that did not open. A fan was provided but was faulty, loud and stop started🥹 The room heater was very dusty, dust burned off and was smelly. Taps on the sink(Located in the bedroom) did not turn off without force and there dripped/
Excellent view, room, food and customer care
Nothing
Beautiful view. Breakfast good staff very friendly
No one on reception pressed the Bell 8 times to check in had to go looking for someone
Good Views.
Having been here for the 3rd time it is noticeable that the hotel is declining with each visit i have come. My Room was very tired looking, carpets badly stained, Wood surrounding window badly corroded. It was described as a double bed However it is not suitable for 2 large Adults, mattress was hard and really needs replaced. Small adjoining room with 2 chairs that are solid to sit on. Chairs need replaced. Room bedroom was facing front reception where the smokers concregrate, very very noisy so beware. I was only B&B so can't comment on Evening meal However breakfast was a disaster Coffee Machine needed consistently filled, Staff very slow replacing Cups, Also Staff slow replenishing breakfast items to be fair rather than slow there appeared to be not enough staff and both mornings manager had to assist at breakfast. Also at the bar reception staff had to do both reception and Bar but that wasn't an issue as bar was never busy. This hotel is not value for money anymore and keep in mind if booking breakfast you shouldn't bother as it's never value for money.
Great location and views. Staff were excellent.
Not enough staff - long waits at reception and bar. Room quite dusty. No housekeeping for a 3 night stay.
Location and amount of public space .
Peeling wall paper dirty carpets smell of damp in the corridor to our room . Weeds litter and empty alcohol lying around the grounds of the hotel .
Fantastic location with beautiful views over the harbour. The staff were amazing and couldn’t be any more helpful or welcoming. A real credit to the hotel.
Really liked the location of the hotel.
N/a
Breakfast was good. Location was very good. Even the walk to the harbour was easy. The weather was also very good. Check in was easy. and staff very nice. The views from the bar area area and balcony are worth the payment alone.
The people in the room next door had a dog that whinned and howled into the early hours. The wall between rooms 11 and 12 is paper thin and you can hear everything. However the people we are this is a minor thing as we were on holiday. For people needing to early travel then this might be an issue.
The outlook over portpatrick was great
A superior room was not superior, cheap furniture. Only superior because it was on the ground floor. No house staff to change towels or even a bed tidy.
Good location overlooking harbour, must have been grand in its prime
No dinner or bar food after 830, 5 hungry people were not impressed when we arrived at 8:35, their loss as dinner and drinks cost £££
Brilliant location. Food OK. Very friendly staff.
Seemed understaffed, staff worked very hard but seemed to be doing two jobs at once. Not the best beds to sleep on.
General Manager is really pleasant and welcoming. Resraurant staff very kind and helpful always happy as they work away. Views from the hotel are breathtaking.
Reception staff on arrival was unpleasant and unhelpful. We arrived 10 mins before check in time and we seemed to be disturbing her. No welcome or invite just told us that the housekeeping staff was still working and she was waiting to hear from them. No invite to wait in any of the lounges or bar. Nothing. She wasnt again unpleasant t when we did get to check in. Infection she never acknowledged us at any time on our 3 night stay. Every other member of staff did, whether it was good morning or have a nice evening or just asking how we were getting on. This one member of staff let the place down and isn't a face you want to meet on arrival as we just seemed to be a bother to her. She looked down at computer screen when talking no facial contact. Our room was another problem but after the unwelcoming we received we just got on with it but the room in our opinion should not be used until.it is fully cleaned and carpets renewed or washed. Top of headboard was thick with stour, cobwebs hanging from coving in more than one place, carpets stained, ceiling round light needs painted, bath needs renewed as the paint is all chipping off, windows are rotten...and so the list goes on. Overall cleanliness of the hotel needs addressed also. Cobwebs in windows and coving again covered in stool, chairs in lounge need upholstered as lots of them are worn away. Paintwork is chipped and dirty. Windowsills in restaurant needs wiped. Same stains on them the whole time we were there which tells me no cleaning getting done in the restaurant other than a quick brush of the floor and tables wiped. Place needs money spent on it to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
Room was comfortable. Staff polite. Hotel well located
Housekeeping. Message about it in room, ambiguous twaddle. When I asked and was told room would not automatically be serviced, I said I expected it to be serviced after every night. Was after 1st night. Not after 2nd night, and I reminded staff I wanted it serviced after 3rd night, and again it wasn't done!!!. So, I ended up having to collect bagful of tea, coffee sugar etc, and girl on reception brought towels to my room and took away used ones. Also took away the rubbish that had accumulated in the room. HOW DARE YOU TREAT PAYING GUESTS LIKE THIS!!!!!!!. Breakfast offering poor for hotel of this status. Just fry up everyday with no choice. Cheapest of items used. The sachets of sauce and marmalade were like something you'd expect from a low rent guest house. Always appeared that something wasn't right in the bar, eg only one lager available, neither lager available, something wrong with the gas.
Views from front of hotel to the village.
The windows in some of the rooms are permanently screwed shut which, in my case, made the room very warm at night. Luckily the staff were able to give me a room at the back of the hotel with a window that opened.
The location.
Can't open the windows to let some air. Bathroom window completely locked. Bedroom can't even get tour fingers through the gap.
Staff were fantastic , views are amazing , food was excellent 👍
No shower , but there was a shower hose off the bath taps,
The location ideal beautiful views of the portpatrick town breakfast excellent great variety well cooked everything you would want to start your day.
Location was fantastic . Room adequate, if a bit dated .
Had dinner included when we booked . Were presented with a 3 course menu at dinner , chose our 3 courses. The main -steak pie was drenched in salt , unable to eat it . This theme continued with the salted caramel profiteroles- again, unable to eat it. To add insult to injury , upon check-out we received a bill for £17:90, informed it was for 2 desserts. I queried this (as dinner was included) , told only 2 courses were included! This was not stated either on the booking , on the menu list , or by the staff member who asked which 3 courses we would like ! (I will be emailing the property today to complain ). For this reason we would not stay there again .
Location/outlook . Peaceful, large pleasant lounge area. Privacy. Cooked breakfast was good - if you wanted that choice . Availabiiity of single rooms.
Poor healthy option for breakfast - minimum selection of fruit . What was there was sparse and looked old.- it is easy enough to make and rrefresh a fruit salad - even using frozen fruits these days (Premier Inn manage it). And plain yogurt not always available. No availabilty of food around lunch time - eg sandwich. The bar lacked atmosphere and felt very souless The staff were very young and pleasant enough (although sparse), but lacked a degree of professionalism. There did not appear to be anyone in a management role. Had to ask for toilet roll and more tea bags at reception etc for my room as these were not replenished daily - although I did not require to have my room cleaned daily.
Staff were brilliant, nothing was a bother, all were pleasant and polite. Meals were very nice, reasonable choices of menu. Hotel was clean and tidy, a little dated in places, but on the whole good value for money, we will have no hesitation booking again in the future.
Our room 116 was comfortable, and had a great view of the harbour, BUT dissapointed with not been able to open any windows, an eletric fan was provided but i would have preferd an open window with it been a really hot few days stay.
Location, friendly staff and comfy bed
Food just ok Bedroom window held open with a block of wood Bath slippy and hazardous.
Fantastic view over the harbour Staff were fine
Hotel was outdated and grubby. It doesn't look like it's had more than a lick of paint since the 70's. The housekeeping was poor, cup rings, sugar on the desk as well as what appeared to be some chewed up chewing gum. The kettle was stained and was pre-filled. Quite a few hairs in various places. The TV was tiny The windows were screwed shut so the room was really hot.
Breakfast was average. A lot of dishes empty.
The food. Very average.
Great location, clean, historic vibe!! Good food, good value for money.
Run down in areas, in need of revamp, but did not spoil our stay.
