Kirkwood Guest House, free parking, electric car point

We had a really enjoyable stay, the beds were very comfortable and the breakfast choice was excellent. The location is very good for walking to town and we were really pleased to be able to use the available parking space. Richard and Paula made us feel very welcome.

Breakfast was really good. Hosts Paula and Richard lovely. So friendly and , accommodating . Nothing too much trouble.

Lovely location, away from the hustle but so close to all areas. Bus stops not even 5mins walk. Lovely room nice and clean. Lovely bedding and pillows. Staff so friendly on arrival. Lovely view great shower. Didn't want to leave beautiful vibe and area

Cant complain, although I had to move the telly to the bed to see the screen as it was quite small. Signal.wasnt great tried to watch film on laptop but I decided the wine was a better option so all was good.

Our experience was great. The room was very clean and comfortable. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Parking was easy and it was in a great location. It was great and we really enjoyed staying here.

The accommodation is in a perfect location, with a bus stop very close by. The surroundings are beautiful, and the room is lovely too. The bed was very comfortable. The host is extremely kind and helpful. We will definitely come back again.

The hoist were super friendly and helpful. Parking was good and the location perfect for outings on foot,....Breakfast was nice ...The room was light & clean...

The bathroom facilities are a bit old and tired. The shower tray 'feels a little wobbly ' and it makes one a little concerned thats 'something is about to crack'. The sink its small so you can't help ,it will splash everywhere! The Breakfast was good , bread a little dry at times,but really sufficient for the day ahead! Paula is super helpful&friendly,but the decoration & atmosphare of the room is sooo glomy .....Maybe a bit of colour on the wall,or some flowers AND DEFINITLY some gentle background music would make this place,....!!! Its so quiet currently ,you ' feel odd to talk to your company ; or like listening in to other people...' .Sorry,but i think thats a easy one to fix...we think...

Host made us very welcome, ground floor room was a good size and toiletories were supplied in the shower room. Breakfast made to order and was very enjoyable, we would go back again.

Nothing really, everything was fine. We used the car to go to Bowness but if you like walking it was certainly within walking distance.

It was incredible. 3mins to the bus stop and also walkable to Bowness pier or Windermere town. We had a lovely stay and the hosts were very accommodating. Wish we had extended our stay, the Lake District overall was incredible that we didn't want to leave

Ideal location between Windermere and Bowness towns. Excellent breakfasts offering good choices, our room was spacious and comfortable. Paula, the landlady is a very nice person and was extremely helpful.

The room seemed a bit small on the photos but when we got in, was really well laid out, nice comfy bed, everywhere spotlessly clean and drinks making facilities. The breakfast was brilliant and the husband and wife - sorry I did not catch their names - were really friendly, offering advice as needed. The place itself is a nice walk from the lake and close enough to all amenities. The lakes is a great place but the hotel made the stay truly memorable for all the right reasons. Thanks

To be honest, there was nothing we did not like, even managed to get parked close enough to the hotel!

Have stayed at Kirkwood before and it is now our 'go to' place when staying in Windermere. Convenient position, nice room and breakfast. Also much appreciated the EV charger. Nice quiet area with very welcoming hosts.

Paula was lovely, made us amazing breakfast, gave us all the info we needed for the day and was a very warm host. Was lovely to meet Richard too. The room was cozy and the view from the window was beautiful. The location was also close to all the important attractions, 10mins drive to Ambleside, 5min to Bowness and Windermere.

We loved everything about the property.

Paula was a super host, very attentive and gave us a great idea for a spa treat 😊😊😊

Breakfast was superb . Plenty of choice, full English to scrambled egg and salmon to vegan. The location was also great. Half way between Windermere village and the main town of Bowness , both about a 10 to 15 minute walk. The guest house was in a very quiet residential area . The house was a lovely auld hoose oozing with character as all older buildings are. Finally our main host Paula was just so lovely and informative and made us feel most welcome. Husband Richard's breakfasts were delightful . All in all would recommend to everyone.

Nothing in specific. Only point to know for someone booking the property is that the building does not have a lift. We had to carry luggage to 2nd floor, which is quite strenuous.

Stayed at Kirkwood Guest House 11th -13th March 2026 to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We loved everything about our stay Paula and Richard were perfect hosts !! Paula thank you for making us fell so welcome. The room was beautiful with a 4 poster bed which was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was lovely 🛁 too. Breakfast was delicious 😋 Short walk to local amenities/ shops / restaurants and pubs. We would definitely recommend and stay again 5 ⭐️ Thank you for a lovely stay. Rachel and David.

Second visit to Kirkwood. Comfortable and spacious room, halfway between Windermere and Bowness, a 10 min walk to either. Hosts were fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was enough to last until the evening, lots of choice and excellent quality. Lots of street parking available. Great public transport nearby too.

Location perfect. It wasn’t to close the village and literally 5 minute walk. Beautiful Victorian building with a four poster bed. Very well heated as it’s been a cold rainy night. That was my concern, but was warm and v comfortable.

Beautiful hosts who were so helpful, and so nice to be so well understood and catered for as a coeliac!

The room was exquisite and the 4 poster bed very nice. The bed was also very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and this also added to the experience of staying here. The breakfast was lovely and the location of the guest house perfect, just away and out of the main hub of Bowness. They also ensured the heating was on regularly, and in October, we felt cosy whenever we were in our room.

There wasn't anything to dislike about the venue, or our hosts, who were very friendly as noted.
