Our room was very small.
Location
The staff were very kind, helpful and polite, lovely people all of them
I would bloke to have found USB charging points in the room
Great location right off the city square and about 5 minutes from the beautiful Rievalux Abbey ruins/museum. Great food in the restaurant - stellar dinner and breakfast too. The steak pie was delicious, and the strawberry bakewell blondie was a great dessert. Breakfast was a combo of some buffet items (fruit, granola, breads, juices) and a hot menu (I got the eggs Benedict.). Great bathroom with an actual washcloth - a rare thing in the UK/Europe.
No air conditioning in the room from what I could tell. I was there on a cooler day, and the windows were open when I checked in. But that could have been an issue if it was a hotter day. There was a fan though. Also, no lift, with a series of several stairwells to navigate through the old building, a couple where it is easy to smack your head. But thankfully each run of stairs was pretty short. There was a town market set up the morning of the day I left, so I wasn't able to park in the town square the night before. I checked in around 5pm, so I was easily able to get a spot on the street around the corner. But could be a bit tougher to find parking if you arrive late at night.
The room was very small but attractive. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was good.
The price of a glass of wine in the bar was far too expensive. Difficult to park.
Great location. All staff pleasant.
Room a bit small. Kettle not clean. Breakfast poor on second day. Very small and tasted like it had been warmed up from day before.
Well positioned on the Market place
Parking very difficult few places available I had room 22 which is directly over the kitchens large extractor fans on continuously very noisy
Great location
Limited car parking No view from the bedroom .. only roof top Food expensive
Comfortable beds, Nice bathroom
Public areas very tired. Refurbishment badly needed
Both breakfast and location was very good and the hotel had a lovely homely feel, no airs and g
Parking, but even that was easily overcome.
Parking
Welcoming cosy hotel with lovely staff.
Nothing.
breakfast was delicious freshley cooked. room was very comfortable armchairs so you didn't have to sit on the bed staff were so so friendly we were attending the wedding of Ellie and Jack Heels eveything went very well

Good location
Small room
This is just an amazing place, clean, friendly, all go above and beyond - excellent place!
Nothing, it was all excellent
Great breakfast, very friendly staff. Room facilities, toiletries excellent. Ideal location in a lovely market town.
Would have preferred view out to the market square, but we had booked late so didn't expect it.
Perfect location for everywhere we wanted to visit. Staff were very good.
Staff were very friendly, helpful, room was excellent, really nice place to stay 😀
All good 👍
Location
Nothing
The location is perfect but the best thing was the facilities in the room like the coffee machine. We had everything we needed.
Traffic noise in the mornings and noise from the pub in the evenings but those are unavoidable. Disappointed that the real ale was not well-kept, was lifeless.
Lovely room, very spacious and comfortable.
Nothing
Great bar. Great restaurant. Great food. Lovely room. Excellent location.
Everything was spot on.
Excellent stay, staff, room and restaurant all exceptional
Very friendly and welcoming. Good location.
Great central location within walking distance of all local shops and attractions. Lovely comfortable room and staff were welcoming and friendly.
Limited on-site parking.
Location Breakfast was good.
Very comfortable and the staff were amazing
Nothing
Location on the marketplace was excellent
Bed was uncomfortable and seemed expensive, however, other places were so probably just the going rate for Helmsley
Location, friendly staff, great breakfast
Nothing
Wyjątkowe miejsce na nocleg w klimatycznym miasteczku. Świetna restauracja na miejscu
Wyjątkowy klimat miejsca
Fab little break in a lovely location, nice breakfast & a comfy hotel
Nothing.....enjoyed everything
Breakfast was good. Liked the choice of items in the menu and the food was well presented . Service was good.
Asked for a walk in shower, which I’d expected in a superior room, but the shower was over the bath. It was awkwardly fitted too, so not great.
The location was excellent, and the facilities were good.
Our room (room6) was very small, and the dining room for dinner was quite dark and dismal.
The staff were fantastic , so great at there jobs
Nothing
Very friendly staff
Rear entrance does not feel very welcoming
All the staff are exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble . They make the stay such an enjoyable stay..
It’s looking a bit dated in the communal areas.
Great location. Nice old hotel, nicely modernised.
Nice room overlooking the square. Right in the heart of Helmsley so fantastic location.
Being over critical shoddy in some areas of the hotel but would not put me off staying again.
Helmsley is a picturesque market town and The Feathers Hotel is in a lovely position in the market Square
We arrived at 16.30 to check in, The hotel reception was unmanned with a sign telling us to find a member of staff. 5 minutes past and I managed to to get a barman’s attention. He checked us in. Luckily we were only staying one night because the room allocated was without doubt the smallest room we have ever seen. And we have been to many pet friendly hotels. We had our labradoodle with us which the hotel knew about and still we had the tiniest room. Slightly larger than a single room. Our suitcase had to stay on the floor a trip hazard but there was no where to put it. Breakfast staff were fine as was breakfast.
Dinner was good,
Very well located for the town and surrounding countryside. Lively bar downstairs and overlooks market place.
Very small room and stayed there over a hot weekend
room was very nice. One member of staff in particular was very nice to us. Ava I believe was her name. LIked the appearance and charm of the place. Great location although parking was a bit odd as we had to avoid the central square and find street parking. Food was good in restaurant.
no complaints at all.
Most things. I didn’t go to the outside behind the pub but did sit outside the front which was very pleasant. Lovely quiet room with everything I needed.
I wasn’t too bothered to use the beer garden. The Black Swan had a lovely beer garden so I did use that to sit out, sorry!
Location & the fanzone although the music on Sunday was far too loud.
Feel that for the price breakfast should have been included
All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Lovely cosy restaurant and nice Pub area
Quite a few meal options weren't available at evening in restaurant but think they had had a wedding on day before and run out of certain products
Absolutely wonderful stay, staff very pleasant and helpful, Our dog was welcomed with an arrival pacl ,we had room 31 which was spotless, large comfy bed ,just perfect
I can't complain about anything
Its position in the town was excellent. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was very good as was the meal we had in the evening
The grout around the tiles in our bathroom was a bit grubby. The room was very small but for one night it was adequate and it was a good price.
Clean lovely staff
Very friendly and accommodating staff
Nothing wrong with the property but noisy road in front, which of course is no fault of the hotel, just an observation.
What a wonderful place to stay in a very lovely town in a gorgeous part of the country. Wonderful staff who were so welcoming upon arrival, comfy room with a fan and amenities. Great pub below with delicious food. Very close to Rievaulx Abbey, plenty of sites within a short drive.
Nothing, it was all fantastic.
Clean room with good shower facilities. Restaurant food is good, but has become a bit more nouvelle cuisine since our last visit.
Lack of onsite parking. Loose panel on bedhead. Reported to management.
Comfortable room, great location😊
Everything
The rooms were fantastically appointed and had everything you could wish for including lots of tea and coffee, hairdryer, radio, TV, fan and ironing board. The staff were all really helpful, friendly and cheerful…especially Mr Gavin at breakfast….he was hilarious! Dinner in the hotel was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend. We had a wonderful stay!
Nothing!
Our own table nice rooms to sit and eat quite lovely buffet Table nice choice of breakfast very enjoyable staff quick to help very polite nothing to much trouble
There was nothing we disliked
Reasonable size room, good breakfast and dinner. Staff were friendly, and Carol at reception was particularly helpful.
Dinner menu was a lttle limited, they had run out of the only salad on offer.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Limited parking
Every thing the location the hotel and especially the staff.
Great staff, clean bedding
Noise at night from a generator perhaps but very difficult to sleep Broken hairdryer Breakfast, food not replenished, waited ages for a pot of tea and had ro request again, hot food took some time to come out Parking was a bit of a mission as there was a steam fair and no separate parking as such, not ideal for carry luggage to and from the hotel
Excellent base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors, if you are a runner there is a scenic circular route from here to Rivaulx Abbey, takes you through fields, farms and forests, past streams and ancient ruins. One of my favourite routes (~8kish)
Great huge room. Charming public and private area
Parking problem
Breakfast was very good.
Very good value for money, friendly staff. Comfortable room. Excellent food.
Not sufficient parking
Food was lovely.. was nice to have live entertainment in the courtyard on a Sunday afternoon .
Could do with a fan in the cupboard if required .
The customer service was brilliant, great location and lovely breakfast.
Nothing
cosy hotel in excellent location
restaurant staff seemed overwhelmed due to party that night
The selection of hot drinks in the room was above average, and the free bottle of mineral water was appreciated
A bit noisy, but there is virtually nothing to be done about this in a building of this age
Nice for an overnight stay but not exceptional
Absolutely first class staff ,location, locals fantastic , been coming here for 10 yrs + never fails
People make a place. The feathers has the kindest, most helpful, down to earth staff. I had such a lovely time there and felt so welcome. Not to mention the breakfast was delicious and everything was very clean. Thank you so much!
Lovely position fantastic beer garden. Great breakfast very pleasant staff.
The bedroom we were allocated was extremely small. The bathroom was very good. No views looking out over rooftops which was disappointing.
Convenient for our needs. Good, if small shower. Staff were nice
Whole place very tired and in need of a complete refurbishment upstairs. Helmsley not as nice a destination as it used to be.
Beautiful room, very friendly and helpful staff, great location.
Parking at the back can be a bit tight but there is plenty of free parking in the town.
Breakfast was amazing . The room (3) was amazing, great view of the square and spotlessly clean. The bed was massive and the best sleep wev'e had in a long time. Would we come back....hell yeh.
Bar prices .a bit steep
Staff very pleasant and helpful.
We booked a classic room, it was very small with a view of a red tiled roof. We asked if we could be moved for our second night which was acceptable. We dined in the smaller dining room which has 4 round tables for two. There were 8 guests dining and 5 dogs. The hotel is pet friendly and we do like dogs but not what one would hope for.
Very friendly and helpful reception staff, room was lovely.
Nothing
Full of character - great pication overlooking the market square.
Nothing
The whole atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. We particularly enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners, where the staff were most courteous and very helpful. Thank you.
Nothing.
We preferred to eat breakfast elsewhere.
General presentation. WIFI access. Coffee making facilities.
Excellent central location, friendly and helpful staff and beautiful decor.
Nothing we didn’t like
Location
Beds dated and very uncomfortable
Good food, clean, well maintained, good location and friendly staff.
Had room only.
Cleanliness. Cobwebs hanging from ceiling. Lot of hairs on blanket on foot of bed. Suspect it is thrown on floor while bed made. Two hairs in bed and bath. Generally grubby paintwork and dust on surfaces. Paint peeling off radiators. Windows need replacing.
Great location excellent staff and service obliging with everything
Everything very good no negative
The staff were absolutely lovely in both the restaurant and reception . The location was perfect. The food in the restaurant was nice.
We didn’t feel it was clean. The corridors as you came in were dirty. The room was very small, but to be fair we did go for the standard room. Everything was a bit shabby and jaded around the hotel and in our room.
La gentillesse du personnel, salle de bain rénovée, lit confortable, décor original
Excellent breakfast.
The website either requires modification or the staff that use it need improved training. I tried in vain to book Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal. I was not able to anywhere on your website where I could book Evening meals. Prior to receiving this message I received a similar message yesterday. In that message I was invited to press a link to reply. The link didn't work.
Location
It was so dirty
Location was great
Room was small the bathroom was very small couldn’t stand upright for a shower as it had a sloping roof. Room was above the entrance to the hotel so was noisy at night
Great location in town square, ideal for exploring the moors.
Perfect location, clean and comfortable rooms, good food and friendly, helpful staff
Our room was extremely hot, but that wasn’t really the fault of the hotel!
The location was perfect
It’s difficult when the property is so old but the room was small
Lovely surroundings friendly and helpful staff would love to stay again
Position in town square v good.
Staff not very cheerful.........need to get a job they like.
Very pretty town.
Very very expensive. Felt like everyone was out to make a killing. Won't be going back sadly.
Food and staff and room
Position and customer care
Nothing
Everything! The building, staff, location, room I stayed in, food - it was all really nice. The town is very nice too.
Nothing.
Lovely room in the centre of Helmsley. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent choice for breakfast.
Some of the common areas weren’t as smart as the bedroom.
