Outstanding! Roundthorn Country House & Luxury Apartments is simply outstanding. This is much more than a normal accommodation – it is a very special experience. The house has been renovated with so much love and attention to detail while still having its authentic country house character and charm. You can feel the history of this wonderful place. The owners and the entire staff were incredibly friendly & welcoming. And the breakfast was absolutely worldclass! If we could give 12 points instead of 10, we defintitely would. Great place, stayed before few years back in the apartments and it was amazing, warm and clean and relaxing ambience. We stayed at the hotel part this time and the room didn't disappoint! Very clean and beautiful views. We had dinner on Sunday and food was delicious, big portions and friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing and myself and kids loved it. Thank you :)

Staff were very helpful. Really enjoyed the breakfast and the dinner was appreciated by all of us. Two friends, who also stayed, also had dinner with us. Really nice location and grounds. Bedroom was spacious and comfortable and we slept well.

Not so much about not liking... but I had requested a superior double and ended up with a family room. In the end though it was a bigger room than expected.

A small pretty hotel with very friendly stuff. A nice, bright, and spotless clean room, comfortable beds and nice views. The breakfast was lovely and the overall service was excellent.

We were met with a lovely greeting to Roundthorn Country House, and the weather was great, so we were able to enjoy a drink on the lovely gardens to the front of the house. The food in the evening was very good. We didn't have a cooked breakfast, but the continental was more than adequate for us, and we were very much encouraged to go back for more should we have wanted to. The service was excellent. The room was in the loft space. Very roomy, but quite low ceilings, and therefore is was quite hot on a sunny day. We did have a fan though, which provided some comfort.

There was no shampoo or conditioner in the room. Something and nothing really, but I hadn't planned for not having any in the room so I made use of the body wash instead. There is a hairdryer though, so that was very handy.

Beautiful property in a beautiful location The apartment was very comfortable and cleverly laid out to maximise space. Plenty of sockets and lots of lighting switches to create different ambiance. Great huge bed and lovely powerful shower.

There was nothing I didn’t like about the property, however the duvet was very lumpy

No air con in rooms but windows do open and plenty of fresh air.

Our family stayed in two of the "apartments" - one one bed, one two bed. They are separate from the hotel. Each had bed and bathroom(s) with a very good kitchen and sitting area as well as a deck overlooking the fields and fells. The space in the two bed was exceptional. The rooms are very modern with classical touches. This is a great way for a family to stay together especially if you want to self cater. The location, just outside the National Park (which is a good point as it is much quieter), is perfect for exploring the north lakes, the Eden valley and the west side of the Pennines. Penrith is a great centre literally on your doorstep. Booths is a high quality supermarket with all you need and a lot of local produce and there is a farmshop just down the A6 in Plumpton for more local produce as well.The garden has great views over the northern lakes and Saddleback. The staff demonstrated typical warm Cumbrian hospitality and were very welcoming

We did not stay in the main hotel so can't really comment on that. The bar was excellent.

Lovely setting and room was nice

A quiet location with good views to the distant fells. The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped for a short break. The staff were great and I enjoyed a good breakfast. I would definitely be happy to stay again.

Beautiful hotel with wonderful views across the Cumbrian countryside. Relaxing with a drink outside in the garden was idyllic. The room was very comfortable with everything we needed. The staff were really friendly and very efficient both in serving our evening meal, breakfast and on check out. The food was very good and breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in the annexe in a lovely 1 bedroom apartment. I have to say it is lovely. Everything was to a high standard with everything you needed. I felt very spoilt staying here for a short weekend get away. Just to add the shower is amazing. Overall I would definitely stay here again as a lovely treat as I usually do camping in the Lakes so this felt like pure luxury

Just got warm on a night and didn’t feel safe leaving the patio doors open as on a ground floor

We stayed for a family party. The hotel was fully booked but we were able to get a self-catering unit across from the hotel. The party was excellently organised. We didn't have breakfast (the facilities to do our own were great) but we had a meal in the restaurant the following night which was very good and the staff were very friendly

The lay out in the restaurant was a bit strange. Most tables had been taken for a small party so we were at a table on its own in the middle of the room.

I was pleased by the apartment room; it was very comfortable and I liked the option of using the kitchen area. It was quiet with great views to the Lake District hills.

I thought the evening menu was a bit limited and I found the meal a bit salty.

De ligging was prachtig. We kregen een upgrade naar een van de appartementen. Het appartement was ruim en bestond ook uit een keuken, woonkamer, terras en twee slaapkamers. Wat een luxe. In het restaurant hebben we heerlijk gegeten. Ook het ontbijt was erg luxe.

De dekens waren wat kort, maar verder was het perfect.

The reception area and entrance is a bit tight to get into with a buggy and baby.

Staff were warm and polite and patient: They were also professional and exceedingly smart! As part of a family reunion weekend gathering from across Western Europe - for someone's big birthday celebration - we were quite a demanding bunch... and the staff put up with our idiosyncrasies with good humour. The food and the scenery were equally enjoyable and so was the atmosphere. The garden area, outside, was wonderful; and window views, everywhere; were a real treat... In my bathroom and bedroom; the toiletries and tea tray contents were of good quality. My big bed was comfy; the heating worked well; and I felt well looked after...

I only have one criticism. Modern shower floors can often do with a good quality shower mat, for added confidence of movement. Were I the manager, I would sort that out with the provision of large, white, rectangular, suction shower mats; to be rinsed and dried off by housekeeping staff: That way, they stay fresh... I would personally suggest that guests might consider bringing their own, for now, or ask about this - in advance.

I couldn't list one thing to like what a beautiful and luxury homely environment from the room which was perfect, shower was powerful and clean bathroom, staff actually seemed extremely happy to work there and apply a service to high standard, we arrived Thursday and they had the Asia menu and the food was exceptional, drink prices were reasonable and breakfast in the morning was beautifully presented and tasty.

The apartments are finished to such a high standard, the kitchen is so well equipped with top‑of‑the‑range appliances, and the accommodation feels truly luxurious. Lovely and warm in spite of minus temperatures outside. Lovely quality bed linen. Staff really went the extra mile to help you. Definitely eat there - evening meal was delicious (vegetarian choice good). Breakfast was superb. Lovely coffee.

The bathroom was exceptionally cold! No heating there. It also took time for hot water to come through on the shower but when it did, it was great. Good pressure.

TV in the apartment was very poor reception on most channels which was disappointing

Worked perfectly for our business trip, great evening meal and breakfast. Very comfortable room.

Staff are outstanding so helpful

My only negative is breakfast is never hot, it appears the food is pre-cooked and reheated, it’s definitely not freshly made, we’ve stayed a few times and it’s been the same on each occasion, not ideal!

It was exceptionally clean and had a nice view of the city. It was really lovely and the staff were really nice.

A lovely relaxing place to stay - it felt like coming home

Food was beautiful! Hotel room was gorgeous, just wish we’d got there earlier to enjoy the hotels garden more.

Amazing staff, cleaner place, breakfast is fantastic, I really recomendo.

Hotel is in a great location with many places of interest just a short drive. Beautiful building, our room had a great view. It was very spacious with plenty of drawers/wardrobe space. Comfortable bed and great shower. Cooked Breakfast was really nice, I personally would have liked more pastries and fruit too. The staff were very polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We didn’t see the small notice that said towels needed to be left in the shower if we wanted them replaced, we thought they would be changed each day. Not a massive problem but something to be aware of.

Air conditioning would have been nice. It was a heat wave and the room was like an oven at times. But we can't control the weather.

Wij zaten in een appartement apart van het hotel. Heel schoon, netjes en goede voorzieningen. Mooie badkamers. Fijn eigen terrasje. Heerlijk gegeten in het hotel. Goede uitvalsbasis voor veel uitstapjes in het Lake District.

We had a lovely stay. We chose to have dinner at the restaurant and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was fresh and tasty - eggs royale was lovely.

Very well located and stylish stay on route south. Close to the M6 but still in nice countryside location with great views. The sun was shining so I was able to take advantage of the nice gardens and nearby walk.

Not the fault of the hotel but the access to the walk to the monument was blocked off

Er was een event, en de scholieren die feestvierden maakten tot laat (kwart voor 12) herrie op de parkeerplaats achter ons raam.

A quick overnight stop on route to Glasgow. A lovely tranquil place with a lovely bar area overlooking the gardens. Bedroom had a seating area which was an added bonus. Comfortable. A good hearty breakfast!

Lovely hotel with gorgeous views. Excellent service. Only slight problem was the narrow staircase up to the top floor where our rooms were.
