Location and people !
It was uphill from town central
Staff was friendly
The room was disgusting with hair all over my room and very filthy
Comfortable and value for money stay. Breakfast was nice. Staff were helpful and supportive and gave a good overview of facilities. Good parking for our hire car near to the premises and no restrictions such as parking fees
The hotel and location was ideal for our needs for a short stay in Shetland. Facilities were reasonable for showering and relaxing. Our visit was for a tour of the islands taking in scenery, so hotel met our function well
Breakfast to die for.
Waiter was competent. His appearance was not expected.
Location
Cooked breakfast was cold and burnt !! We did complain but same next day !!
Quaint , typically SCOTTISH (Shetland Islands)
Excellent hosts, great selection of cold and hot cooked breakfast. Thai restaurant in house with well cooked and good choice of menu. Only 170 min walk to Lerwick Town Centre.
Glen Orchy House is situated at the top of a steep hill, which could make things difficult for older people with mobility issues.
Decent enough choices. Can order smoked haddock or kippers day before. Recommend milk jugs for each table.
Put milk on each breakfast table.
Location.
Room was too hot. Linens and towels were old and need replacing. Shower temp and pressure was good but the entire toilet needs upgrade. The rooms are dated. Breakfast was passible but seemed to be one man doing it all. Some food was stale.
Just awesome people thank you
Staff were nice.
Not much sound insulation, room very rundown, window latch was fitted on open window hence it was literally impossible to close. Normally I'd roll with the punches but when the price is comparable to a good hotel in a popular city, it's pretty unforgiving.
Location. Breakfast. Thai quinine.
Shower needed maintenance.
Good value and close to Lerwick centre.
Everything was fine.
If you are just planning to sleep here before moving somewhere else outside Lerwick this is a good place to stay - it's distant enough from the city center and you can eat in, so you don't have to go back and forth just for that. The staff is lovely and they cook tasty food! I liked the room as well: spacious, with all the essentials, exactly what you would expect for a low cost accommodation when you only need to spend the night somewhere.
WiFi quality was not exactly great unfortunately. The bed pillows had the usual "one is not enough, two are too much" combo which was a bit annoying to sleep with. Room window facing directly the parking. All minor pet peeves though!
The location was within walking distance to Lewrwick. The Thai restaurant that was attached to the accommodation made good Thai food. Breakfast was good. Lots of fruit.
The decor was old and we had a rip in our carpet. The room was small.
Poprosiłam o zamianę i otrzymałam inny pokój. Jednak pani poinformowała mnie że ten pokój będzie dużo mniejszy... No i faktycznie był.
Breakfast was good.
Wasn’t very clean. Needed a good hoover and deep clean
Friendly and helpful staff, excellent and hearty breakfast, room size ok, very good location.
The facility hosts a (good) thai restaurant within, so a bit of food smell lingers on in the common areas. It's manageable, but some may not like it.
The location and the breakfast.
The person who greeted us. She was very abrupt and not very welcoming.
Great view - great food - friendly - good position
Nothing I can think of
It was easy to find the hotel
No much shops but there r very good restaurant
Location, nice breakfast
Overpriced, for over £100 a night I don't expect a carpet that's ripped!
Very comfortable stay and friendly people
Nothing
Mycket trevlig personal.
A great breakfast Very friendly and helpful staff
Shower took a long time for the water to heat up but once it did it was great The room could do with a refresh
The hotel is just a few minutes walk from Lerwick Town Centre. The staff are very friendly, when I phoned in that my flight was delayed I got quickly reassured that a late check-in would be no problem at all. The Thai restaurant in the hotel is really very good, and so is breakfast.
The ambiance comes across as rather dated. The room and corridors could do with some redecoration. It was a bit of a trek from the lobby to my room, with no lifts and several flights of stairs. The bar didn't have any cider.
Friendly staff , good breakfast
Small single bed
Personale molto gentile, ottima posizione, ristorante Thai con ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo

the owner...lovely lady...bend over backwards to help
walk up the hill
Great food. Warm and welcoming
Nothing
Beliggenheten var bra, nær sentrum.
Dårlig frokost, lukt av frityr i hele hotellet.
Breakfast was good.
Rooms were a bit tatty. Old and dated. Could hear everything in other rooms.
Close the the Knab where you can go for a late evening or early morning walk and view of the sea. Hot Breakfast available in the morning was a plus.
Handy location and I liked the Thai restaurant - clean and comfortable beds
The blind in my room was broken and couldn’t be adjusted. Prices seemed a bit high for the standard
It was ok. In house Thai restaurant was good.
Very weird setup. Not very english speaking people running it gave conflicting information. Told us breakfast ran until 0900 although the sign on the dining room door said 0830. Explained that we had to lock the room door by turning the knob on the inside before closing, even had a spare doorknob at reception to show us what she meant, but in actual fact the door would lock simply by using the key from the outside. We had to ask for a bathmat, although something was lost in translation and we ended up being given a pile of 3. Several firedogs were constantly propped open on the stairways. The room had a thermostat on the wall but not sure what it controlled as there were no radiators anywhere in the room. Location is fine as everything in Lerwick is walkable. Breakfast was basic but good quality and the evening Thai restaurant served good food but with slightly confusing menus, we had to order mains from one menu and sides from the takeaway menu - which seemed be old menus from the previous restaurant located in the town.
Gehorig gebouw.
Breakfast was excellent well worth it. The Thai meal at not was excellent and good value. Great position too but like I said a lot of money for size of the room.
The bed linen was old the pillows were flat had to ask for extra pillows. They really charge too much for the size of the rooms. Bathrooms need a lot of repairs updating. Probably first time we have really complained on booking.com in 30 years. My mattress I felt like rolling off the bed they really need to update this sort of thing for the money they charge.
Spacious room, good facilities, good breakfast. Especially liked that the room had a proper bath - what a treat.
It’s quite far away from the centre - though on the other hand the views are good
I liked the ability to leave luggage before and after check in. A good Thai restaurant on the premises for evening meals. Good breakfasts.
Quality of food
The cleaning; very poorly em general The staff; not pleasant, not friendly, not helpful Em general the priority looks a bit tired and dated. The plants been left with water old green for weeks…
Good location
Out dated. Staff not friendly
Excellent location, town centre. Quiet location. Rooms were clean. Excellent breakfast. Good selection of cold options, lovely filtered coffee and very good cooked breakfast.
Very dated decor. Room was poorly furnished - curtains, towels & bedding. Bath very small and water pressure was poor. Shower was unusable for anyone tall.
Breakfast was great, all good, very friendly
Room not cleaned once
Restaurant availed in house as shortage in town
Too small a bed for two persons some chairs would have been nice
Reasonable price Facilities okay to spend overnight
Food is too much to eat. The taste is quite different, maybe due to Thai/Chinese style
The location is ideal, walking distance from the port. Spacious rooms.
Dirty, mouldy shower, carpets are rippling, wallpaper peeling. Really run down, but the bedding didn’t even fit in properly. Felt really dirty and unkept. Didn’t even want to have the breakfast. When checking in, was told to leave at 10am even thought when booking it, it’s 11. Apparently that was a mistake on booking.com but it really just felt like we were being cheated. Wasn’t very welcoming. Nor were they very friendly when leaving. Tables were sticky in the room. Shower mats dirty. Was a very unpleasant stay. Especially for the price of £125!
Restaurant and reception staff good, nice Thai food restaurant and good breakfast. Plenty of parking.
Room far too hot, seemed like central heating stuck on, also thermostat would not go below 23 though I think it didn't work anyway. Window broken so not very secure and little breeze able to enter room. Creaky floorboards. Wifi coverage not very good in room only close to reception. Generally in need of a freshen up.
Great breakfast, friendly staff!
Location, probably the only good thing about this hotel,
The room was dirty, the window didn’t close properly, wallpaper was hanging off the walls, shower didn’t work properly, the lock on my door didn’t work properly, and the WIFI didn’t work,
Good location, service minded staff
Close to Lerwick centre and has a Thai restaurant downstairs.
Room was very hot, but thankfully there is a wee fan provided. The bed was a bit uncomfortable.
Nice location near town centre. I have stayed here many times for work and very reasonable price.
Decor is starting to look a bit tired.
Good value. Nice fruit at breakfast.
Bit tired and dated.
Good twin room, perfect for our needs. Had dinner in restaurant downstairs which was delicious. Good sized bathroom and we didn't have any issues really with the room.
Communication with reception. Lady was a bit rude and abrasive with my partner but to be fair she apologised afterwards.
Not much!
Everything
Very nice location near the centre of Lerwick. Nice, clean room with a kettle. Great breakfast.
No fridge in the room.
Excellent breakfast, good and easy to get to location. Very good evening meal -not many other places open on a Sunday
Building a bit tired. Room rather to warm. These are comments not complaints.
Location good. Parking good.
Did not reflect photos of booking. Very dated and tired. Old style Guest House more than mid-range hotel. Lack of power points replacrd bu potentially dangerous extension leads. Very hot in room, despite being on Shetland with ambiant island temp of 15 degrees - window with very limited opening.
The staff were very friendly. The beds were clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing with a large choice of hot and cold and lots of fresh fruit.
There could be lots done to upgrade the hotel. A broken toilet roll could be repaired and there could be more drawers and hangers put in the rooms. A bedside table at each side of the bed and lights both sides. The hotel, although near the town centre, it was up a hill.
The breakfast is great the fruit was fresh and abundant.Cooked breakfast was to order freshly cooked and of a high quality.Fantastic location for viewing and walking the Knab and Lerwick.
The room was as does the hotel needs a refresh. The curtains and furnishings are dated with signs of wear and tear.
The price including breakfast was excellent, the facilities were good, the room was clean and reasonably sized and it was quite conveniently located a few hundred yards from the harbour and town centre. We did not eat in the Thai restaurant which is decorated accordingly other than for the included substantial breakfasts and they also offer takeaways.
The place could do with a makeover though I guess the very competitive price reflects that. Our room required 3 flights of stairs, obviously with fire doors.
Lovely hosts very kind looked after us very well. Let us in our room early and allowed us breakfast on our first day before we had even booked in
excellent breakfasts
not be located up 3 flights of stairs
Typical British seaside b&b. Clean and comfy. Excellent breakfast
Things a bit dated, but nothing amiss really.
Such friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was excellent
Maybe a bit worn out in places but I liked some of the decor mixing different cultures and not bland like a lot of hotels.
The room was furnished with mismatched furniture that was fit only for taking to the rubbish tip and a broken bedside lamp. Instead of a sheet on the bed there was a valance intended for a bed base and wasn’t big enough to fit over the mattress. At over £110 a night I expected better.
Breakfast was superb, lots of fresh fruit and everything you could possibly want
Stairs were hard for two octogenarians. We were up two flights
The hotel gives a visitor easy access to Lerwick’s town centre.
Breakfast finishes at 8.30am which seems a bit early when you’re on holiday. While the room was fairly comfortable the owners should invest in some new bedding, especially the pillows.
The breakfast was very very good, with fresh fruit in abundance and excellent filter coffee. We also had a meal in the Thai restaurant which was also excellent. I liked the view from the west facing room from the elevated position of the Guest House.
I didn't like that the sheets were too small for the bed and kept coming off at the corners. Very annoying. Saying that, the bed was comfortable.
The location was ideal for access to Lerwick town. Beds were reasonably comfortable and a nice view from the room.
The rooms needed a bit of updating. Room cleaning wasn't very good. There wasn't a hairdryer supplied and only 2 small and 1 large towel supplied for 2 people and not changed during our 4 day stay
The guest house was a great place to base yourself while exploring Shetland. It has great costal walks close by and has an easy route into the Lerwick, walking or car. There are lounges to spend time in and the whole place feels spacious. We ate in the Thai restaurant in the evening - very tasty supper.
Location was ok
Didn’t get the room we booked which made for a very uncomfortable three nights. We should have had a large family room with separate beds and instead were given a small double which was totally unsuitable. Room was damp, cold and cramped and no alternative offered despite the fact I’d booked and paid months ago.
Run by a lovely couple who were very welcoming, and although we only stayed one night, the food was magnificent
Nothing
Three single beds for three of us. BEST hot and cold breakfast ever and included in the room cost. Excellent evening Thai restaurant that was very reasonably priced. (Thank you Clementine for greeting us upon arrival).
Heat was hard to control. Our room was chilly the first few nights and then warm. Note: it is very hard to reach this hotel by email or phone as there is often no one on the front desk BUT just book and trust the booking. It all was good.
Breakfast was excellent with very good service. Selection of fresh fruits and full Scottish breakfast. Great choice.
Room was tired as was the bathroom. Lounge although comfortable could have been cleaner.
Breakfast was great. We also had dinner- a lovely Thai meal mild curry and rice. Lovely ambience in the dining room
We were in the attic room which although large enough, the double bed was a little small. Also the pressure from the shower affected the flow of water.
Evening meal and breakfast were both lovely meals
Nothing at all
Easy to find the hotel, its right on the street with big letters of the name Glen Orchy Hotel. Hotel had parking which was convenient. Great warmth from staff of the hotel and they helped me to bring my suitcase up to my room. Rooms are spacious with no lack of drawers. Good Scottish full breakfast, and had dinner facilities. Good location and only 30mins from the airport. Good Thai dinner choices with authentic thai food.
I didnt like the steps in the hotel, but then its inevitable with hotels in Shetland Is. The staff did help me carry them to room, which was very appreciated.
