Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The location is great, and having access to a private beach is a nice feature.
There is no washroom at the private beach, which is quite inconvenient. The Longhouse is very noisy due to the traffic from the highway, and the building and rooms feel quite outdated and in need of renovation.
Loved the proximity and convenience of Dave's. Some excellent staff, some no so much. Location close to beach, downtown and nearby wineries.
Reserved through book.com by mistake ..Front staff made us feel uncomfortable about changes we made from 1 to 2 nights. In the end, it worked out. We were in Room 203. The shower hot/cold were reversed. Front staff were advised.
The location was excellent. Great and spacious room. The access to private beach is very convenient and just a short walk. We got to see the sunset. Staff very friendly and made your access to the beach clear and easy. The stuff at the dining room and at Dave's Pub were very friendly and warm. Nice indoor pool. Everything was wonderful, great staff!
Location
I booked through Booking.com because the property was advertised as pet friendly. After booking, I was told my rate didn’t allow pets and I had to pay more. The hotel then called me to explain that the Booking.com agent “barely speaks English,” which was completely irrelevant to me as a guest and came across as unnecessary complaining about their booking partner. During the same call, they explained that our room would be in an adjacent building rather than the main building. Again, that’s perfectly fine — I had never stayed there before and simply cared that the room was suitable for us and our dog. The reception service was unfriendly, and when we returned at 4 PM, several guests were waiting while staff spoke rudely to them. The room was extremely outdated, with mold/mildew on the bathroom ceiling, a faucet that splashed water everywhere, an old toilet with no lid, a tiny TV, and noisy A/C. The pool and facilities also felt very dated. The beach was the best part, but it is outside the property. Overall, the high price simply doesn’t match the service or quality. I would recommend comparing other options before booking.
Location and private beach
Customer service and room cleanliness. The room was not properly cleaned upon arrival, and it took considerable time and effort to get the issue addressed. Not worth it at all
It is a beautiful property
The amenities are outdated and everything is severely over priced
Location breakfast staff Daves Pub Beach check in was ok,
Room only service once and that was 2 days after requested, second time requested didn’t happen!! Had to go out and see someone to get clean towels and shampoo, not sure how we were expected to make the small shampoo last 10 days ! Not impressed at all with the room service or change it was not worth the money !! Even when I went out and asked the shampoo was forgotten sheets weren’t changed and toilet paper not given!!
The private beach was amazing. The staff was friendly.
The rooms were very dated and a lot of outlets didn’t work
Both the restaurant and the pub attached to the property have overpriced food which, on the whole, is very mediocre.
The location is great! Minutes to the beach
It was not clean 😔 and rooms are really old and for 500$ a night not what I expected
The private beach access. Room was big.
The room was quite dark. Air con unit loud. There was no guest information in the room to provide information on amenities, which wasn't a show stopper but would have been helpful. For the size of the room and guests it accommodated, it would have been nice to have a couple of chairs in the room and additional chairs outside. We were not able to access the games room and staff were vague about it when we asked.
The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean and the staff were very nice!
The price is a little high for one night…I realize your hotel Is in the range for the area and other accommodations are similar but I still Feel for just the purpose of sleeping, hotels in general are extremely overpriced!!!
Location
Not very clean . Very noisy room. We did not sleep well due to noise from room above.
The property was huge, had private beach access.
It wasn’t clean the carpet was dirty, the sheets were stained. There were cobwebs on the door and roof there were leaves outside on the balcony The sheets of both the beds were stained
The rooms were big and clean, direct access to beach.
There wasn't a lift.
the rear looked like a junk yard, a huge yellow tractor is leaking oil, running acrosse the driveway when it rains.
Dirty big red stain on bed very dirty
Overpriced it’s basically a level Up from a cabin
The beach was beautiful and helpful staff
Faster check in
The beach was the best part. The room was outdated.
Housekeeping was not offered for the duration of the stay. For the money we paid, lots of it, we had to take the garbage out ourselves. That was a bad joke.
We liked Dave’s pub the beach the bed the grounds
The air conditioning was very weak room was damp and humid Parking was tight and always full need more spots
We loved that there is access to the beach from the resort. We watched the sunset there on our first day.
The carpets can be updated or change it to hardwood floors but love rustic feels of the building.
Very pleasant
Tidy
Great place, close to the beach to watch the sunset; clean rooms
No seating to sit anywhere outside the different blocks, I was in pine lodge and no air conditioning through out the halls it was so hot to get to the room and also no elevator so climbing the stairs in the heat was exhausting seeming we had an extremely hot summer this year,
Everything, and the attendance was so kind
I haven't problems, everything was good! I am not sure, but maybe its the best hotel in Grand Bend
Great staff Convenient location
Property was clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Would definitely come again.
Location
Bathroom old
This was the perfect getaway randomly found it and me and my husband are making it our go to every year private beach, golfing, pub, pool, hot tub, hammocks. Also quick walk down the beach to the town which was full of food desserts and shopping. So much fun.
Nice hotel grounds.
Bed sheets were dirty, probably unchanged on arrival. Very outdated room interior.
Loved staying at Oakwood
Stayed here for the Labour Day long weekend. I knew full well that I'd have more to do there had I golfed. Facilities are good, as well as the room. The bed was very comfortable. One complaint about the room is that the balcony looked out onto an embankment of trees blocking much of the view of the course. The breakfast and lunch/dinner options were good, but pricey. The dinners were more worth it at Dave's Pub, but I only had the breakfast buffet once as the cost dodn't justify the selection. The major complaint I have with Dave's Pub was the service. The first meal had decent service, but not the second one. It felt I was being hurried up a little bit. Lastly, the private beach was good. The sand was soft and the water was cold, but shallow. Overall, good, but not great. If I stay again, I'd eat my meals elsewhere.
Traumhafte Lage, 80iger Jahre Charme, wunderschöner Strand, Pool
Leider abgewohnt und in die Jahre gekommen, man kann den Charme vergangener Tage auch aufrechterhalten und trotzdem mal was renovieren
The rooms literally stink, carpets were having bugs and very old.Behind the bed there were lot of spider webs.No microwave in the room , no chairs ,sofas to sit. I do not recommend this resort.
I hated the onions in the carbonara pasta at Dave’s pub. Not a big deal to most people but to us it was . Other than that great resort
For a reservation of 4, you find 2 towels only. As well the paper tissue was out, toilet paper too. Not impressed at all and waiting time at reception is terrible. Probably because I catched a group of people checking and it was hours waiting.
The property itself is beautiful and well kept. The rooms could use a facelift along with the outdated furniture. Upon checking in, we were told at 3:30 to come back at 4:00. I asked if we could do the check in now and come back at 4:00 for the room key but that was denied. I came back at 4:00 along with a room full of other guests. We finally got checked in about an hour later. They need more staff or a change of policies!!!
Rooms are a bit dated but nice and clean as a whistle. The resort is very nice and the atmosphere is pleasant and upscale.Breakfast buffet was good but I was a bit disappointed that there was no decals coffee and no oatmeal for us of advanced years. Would definitely stay again.
This resort has great potential thanks to its beautiful location and layout, but it falls short in key areas. The facilities are outdated, many areas are poorly maintained, and overall cleanliness is lacking. It’s extremely overpriced for what’s offered. One of the biggest issues is accessibility—there are no elevators, no ramps, and many places are difficult or impossible to access for guests with disabilities or special needs. Families with mobility-impaired or neurodivergent children will find many parts of the resort challenging or unsafe. Additionally, there are no dietary accommodations, and the staff isn’t equipped to handle food allergies or restrictions. That said, the staff were friendly, professional, and genuinely tried to help within the limitations of the resort itself. With serious upgrades and a commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, this place could be amazing. But as it stands, it’s not worth the high price for guests who need modern, clean, and accommodating facilities.
It’s a great spot to spend time with family and enjoy the beach.
The hotel needs a huge Reno and for the price they are charging it’s a complete rip off. Our original room had carpet that was damp snd smelled and the bathroom was moldy with cob webs. We switched rooms to the main lodge and it was a bit better because the floor was laminate and no pealing and moldywallpaper in the bathroom. The staff was amazing and I feel bad that they have to put up with multiple complaints. Never saw any management on the property. The only thing they have going is that they have a private beach access. For those people that do not want to fight the crowds at Grand Bends main beach it is a good location. Much better options for Grand Bend. Would not stay there again.
More expensive when booked on Expedia! On Expedia ad breakfast was included but Oakwood claimed it was not included! Disappointing!
The room I pre booked and requested (backing onto the golf course) wasn’t ready upon arrival at check in time (4PM) so we were given another room which was away from my guests, without a balcony or walk out in a different building and dirty upon arrival-the bathroom floor had hair and the refrigerator was not cleaned.
Liked the area but to many stairs getting up to 3rd floor. Should have requested downstairs.
Stairs
One of the worst experiences for the most expensive one night stay I have ever had and I am a global traveller. This place is a very old, run down lodge not worth $480 per night plus 7% resort fees plus 13% taxes. The pictures do not justify its ugliness. Though it depends on your expectations and experiences. The only positive point is its location to the main street and it's private beach. Staff, specially the so called supervisor are rude and treat you very differently if you are of minority. Our room was not ready at check-in and was not ready at the stated check-in time of 4 p.m. the excuse was that room is still not ready and the housekeeping was behind. At 5:30 when I complained, the so called supervisor blamed me for booking the room the day of. Can you believe that? I booked the place in the morning via Expedia and check-in at 2 p.m. the so called supervisor was blaming me for their room not being ready for the 4:00 p.m. check-in time as their own policy and was unhappy that I was aggetatand and upset for her gas lighting me. The other admin who helped us to find out that our room was still not ready at 5, provided us late check out; however the so called supervisor was making me feel like she did it. When we got to the room, only one key was working, not enough towels for all of us, only one soap, nothing else and the toilet seat, well let me tell you how bad that was. I am sure with the amount of money they charge they can afford to change their toilet seats.
We really liked the private beach on Lake Huron.
The private beach was really nice. Indoor pool was nice. The staff was very helpful!
Liked the private beach area. Beds were comfortable.
Food options
We paid $600 for our room mid week for one night. It was what you would expect for a room half the price. I wanted to get to the room an hour early and was unable to. The room was tired looking with patio doors that were damaged and hard to open. The bed was nice. There was a living room that had a somewhat comfortable couch. The towels were small and scratchy .There was a fridge, coffee maker and microwave, but the coffee maker in a room off the bathroom, and the microwave on the desk, meaning I had to bend over awkwardly to use it. Not exactly a kitchenette. There was not a vending machine on our floor, the carpets were badly stained on the staircases and stairwells. There was a pub on the grounds but nowhere for finer dining. It is not that the stay was bad or unacceptable. But there are better places to go for that price
Great location - quiet and there was always somewhere to park. We unfortunately didn't try the onsite restaurant but will when we return. This was our first visit to the Oakwood but we have been many times to Grand Bend. It was a great location that we would happily return to. The rooms were a bit run down. The washrooms could have used some renovations but it was functional. We went to the pool and enjoyed the private beach. It was a very nice trip! Nothing fancy, but it was very enjoyable and we were able to walk both along the beach, and along the highway to go back and forth to the main area in Grand Bend. I would return!
Stayed at the Pine Lodge. Love this property, kids wish we stayed another couple more days. The only concerns we had was the room we stayed in had some kind of maybe machine going off and we heard the water thru the pipes from the top floor. Dave’s Pub dinning, recommend to call for reservation as it’s not a huge place. But aside from that it was a good stay, we may do it again in the future.
Property is very outdated, no renovations done for a long time, no new amenities, no outside pool, the air quality inside pool is very poor. No microwave option included, charged $25 for the very old microwave. Room was not cleaned and towels not changed, stayed 2 nights on the long weekend. No washrooms on the private beach, even portable, 10 minutes walk to the room, clearly no one used the room's washroom, when on the beach. PRICE FOR THE ROOM IS OVERCHARGED.
Oakwood Inn had a private beach to walk to. The city beach was overcrowded and hard to get a parking spot. That, was a big advantage. But,They need to do more for their customers that need help getting to the beach. Plus it was hard to sleep with dogs barking and noisy neighbors in the hotel.
The mildew smell in the room hit you when you opened the door and everything was damp (carpet, bed, couch). They put us in an adjoining room and there was a barky dog. The tv remote didn’t work. We checked out early after one night and they didn’t apologize, offer us a different room or offer us a refund. So disappointing because we have not had any complaints of our stays in the past.
All good
Then I will go check out hotel room I will deposit security they not give me back
I like everything it was beautiful experience i will g0 back 100% I recommended.
Location, private beach, breakfast
Room, needs an upgrade
Great place to stay and enjoy Grand Bend. This is a regular location for our family reunion and never disappints
Best accommodations in Grand Bend!!
Oakwood Inn was just OK. Certainly not a 4 star hotel. Rooms were comfortable like a dated rustic lodge, which was kind of nice and added to the overall feel of the place. It could do with a little TLC and attention to detail in the cleanliness department. Maybe wash the windows and sweep off the sitting areas occasionally. Our first room smelled so bad of stale cigarette smoke we asked to be switched. They say " no smoking" in the rooms but I am not sure they really do anything about it. The whole 1st floor of our Lodge reeked of it Unfortunately, the dining room where breakfast is served is crawling with carpenter ants. Speaking of buffet breakfast, it is not that great. Chewy bacon, powdered eggs, frozen begium waffles, instant oatmeal.... I have had better at a Super 8 or Comfort Inn. Very disappointing. Dave's Pub was very good, though. Deanne was great and she and her coworkers work their butts off with a smile on their face. Shout out to Robin at the front desk. She is super helpful and knowledgeable. Overall, this is a decent place to stay, but is not worth the 4 star rating and a little overpriced for what you are getting. Unless you are looking for somewhere quiet, close to the beach and within walking distance of downtown.
Loved the chalet style room with the outdoor space. The beautiful beach is a 5 minute walk through a lovely private road.
The main premises do not have a lift and we were not advised of this beforehand. We were originally assigned a room on the third floor and had to pay extra to switch to a room on the ground floor.
What a beautiful resort! Perfect location, great private beach, spacious room.
Beautiful stay!
We were disappointed with our experience. The amount of stairs was an issue. Stairwell was hot and carpets were stained. Banister was wobbly. Upgrading is definitely needed. Beach area was full of debris. Complementary breakfast is not offered. Buffet style breakfast is $30. I've stayed in less expensive places that offered at least continental breakfast included with stay. Dave's pub was nice with good food. Pool was nice but in need of a cleaning. Not worth the money.☹️
Amazing to have the private beach. The public beach is very crowded, so it was nice to able to have room for the kids to play. Great staff, breakfast. Family friendly.
Outside the rooms (hallways, stairs) was very hot.
Easy access to the beach. Not too close to the busy strip. Walking distance to some stores and Tim Hortons. Resort had amenities on site
Our lodge smelt of cigarette smoke but was clean. It would have been nice if there were a walking path around the property
Access to the beach was amazing! Staff at the front desk upon check-in were welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately the pool was dirty and there weren’t enough chairs to even sit around the pool. Stayed in Pine lodge which was so loud listening to all the people in the hall way. A/C hardly worked and carpets throughout the pine lodge were so stained and gross.
It was very clean and comfortable
The bathroom was not clean and had to keep asking for clean towels and also the toilet was loose when seating down kept moving, the air conditioner kept going off was on for like and hour and then off and had to turn it on all the time and was not cool , room was hot .
Checked in at 4 after 1 hour coming back from the swimming pool there was no bath towels just half of the toilet paper. We were 4 in the room and you charged for that!!! Called and after 2 hours situation was the same! I called nobody answered in the guest service!!! The swimming pool no clean towels too The washroom seats broken ! No recommend no coming back
I love to give people and places the benefit of the doubt, but after I experienced this “resort” this week, I can confirm all of the negative reviews are true. Is the staff pleasant? Yes, of course, and it’s certainly not their fault this place is completely run down and understaffed. My family has owned a multitude of successful businesses and establishments. I’ve also been able to personally travel and experience a plethora of lodges, resorts & hotels. I encourage the owner of Oakwood to do the same. Let’s get into the specifics: -rooms aren’t just dated, they are DIRTY -yes, I knew there would be no house keeping, but not even taking the garbage, recycling or providing cleaning towels without asking 2-3 times in the same day?? -has a “private beach” but no option to rent towels, chairs, umbrellas or even water crafts -has dog friendly rooms however places families with kids and adults who don’t like dogs next door to you, oh and god forbid your dog barks- noise complaint. -you can hear everything. Both neighbours on each side, and especially those above. -absolutely no one at the counter at checkout This resort needs a MEGA refresh and it’s totally achievable, but you need to LOCK IN. Please invest. Please consider bringing in actual experienced management that cares about the customer experience. What a shame it would be for this piece of Canadian property to go to waste.
Private beach.
It’s a huge property and conveniently located by the beach , about 5 minutes walk and you have access to to the private beach
Little outdated rooms
The staff was great! Guri was very helpful and made our stay amazing!
would be great if there was a microwave in the room
golf
