Friendly staff, good food, comfortable room. The stairs to our room.
Excellent location & friendly staff
Tired rooms - poor breakfast - the Full English was missing 2 items so wasn’t Full!
Great location, right in the centre of St Ives. The hotel is steeped in history and has retained its character.
No on -site parking. Everything else was fine.
Central location. Comfortable room. Allowed us to check in early to change for a wedding.
Unfortunately breakfast was a little chaotic. Full English breakfast was available but no tomatoes or baked beans (surely a staple in the kitchen). When it did arrive, there was no breakfast for one of our party of four, we had to ask and it came separately. We ordered toast but that did not arrive until after we had eaten and were about to leave. Coffee in the pot was cold. When the breakfast arrived it was quite nice, shame about everything else.
The hotel and staff were very nice
Sleep wasnt good as at the front lot of noise from out side kept us awake
Location Staff
Room little tired but clean
Very good
Dont know
Ambiance
Parking and limited breakfast and duvet very thick and room very hot
In town centre. Lovely, comfortable bed.
Step at bottom of stairs was slightly too high. I tripped twice. A bit mean on the breakfast.
Location is convenient. Staff is always super friendly and helpful
Brilliant central location, clean and comfortable room.
The room was warm with no air conditioning. A fan was supplied which helped.
Beautiful room design
The view from the room was of a wall about a metre away it would have been helpful to know this when we was booking the room
Team were lovely.
Room 18 had no windows, a small velux and was absolutely boiling hot. One fan didn't cut the mustard.....
Comfy, quiet and clean room.
Nothing
The only tiniest negative is the lack of onsite parking. There's plenty in the town and it's hard to see how the hotel could have it's own parking space, but it is worth knowing that parking can be a little awkward.
It was very well placed.
The room was unbearably hot.
Location great staff nice
Nice hotel been before Loo needed cleaning on arrival No fob given so couldn’t get in at midnight Prosecco ordered but non alcoholic in error All sorted but easy errors to fix
Spacious with fun decor. Very well maintained and clean. Air conditioned bar and restaurant. Beautiful building in a pretty town
Very picky but no air conditioning in the bedrooms and we stayed during a heat wave. Had to walk 15 minutes in a heat wave with luggage from a nearby car park.
Area is nice, food in the resteraunt was really good.
Room was roasting, no means of cooling it down.
The hotel was lovely
We were in room 15. With only a sky light window the heat was horrendous. Even the walls and floor were boiling hot. It was the most uncomfortable stay ever due to heat in the room. A fan was supplied but it did absolutely nothing. No way should the room have been let.
Great location breakfast looked great but didn't try it. Would definitely visit again, easy check in and exceptionally clean.
Perfect location in St Ives
The bed was a little lumpy
Great location though very loud at night till 4am Check in was polite Non existent leaving
Mould in the deluxe suite Cobwebs in bathroom and outside bedroom window dirty windows Needs a deep clean No fridge as in the other suites within coaching inn group Warm Water Small tv at other end of room can hardly see Extremely warm one fan at 80 odd degrees is not acceptable Jamaica inn is so much more superior Lead up to the room os shabby to say the least Needs some refurbishment don’t mind panic £185 but expect the best and a walk in shower in this day and age needs refit
Nice clean hotel with welcoming staff
Local to amenities
Needed a window but as we had small dog only certain rooms available
Staying there

Lovely building with a great location
No onsite parking Breakfasts were hardly warm Staff never removed plates in between courses. Table so cluttered Room was horrendous, window directly above extremely loud kitchen extraction fans. Thought I was at cape Canaveral! Room smelt of cooking oil and food. Fans kicked off at 07.20 in the morning and on till gone 10pm!! Do not accept rooms 16 and 17!! It was that hot you needed windows opening.
The Golden Lion is consistent and a favourite when traveling to St Ives for work.
During the summer months the rooms can get quite hot. However, it is a listed building and so there is little the team can do to overcome this.
The bar was comfortable
There were very few staff in the hotel and the service was not good. The hotel is shabby and dirty. Our bathroom had gaps between the bath and floor and the sink unit is falling apart. The bath also leaked. The carpet was diry as was the bathroom floor. We stayed in room 12.
Lovely hotel. Everything clean and well presented. Had dinner in the restaurant, the staff were all friendly and nothing too much trouble. Very comfy beds, we had a very good nights sleep
The only thing I could say is it might be good to invest in air conditioning as the bedroom was very warm. There was a fan which the housekeeping had put on for us which helped a little.
Location
No on site parking
Fantastic room really enjoyed staying
Good central location Comfortable suite
Room top floor - no lift
Location
No air con small room and not clean bathroom and blocked drain
Had an excellent meal and the room was very clean & tidy
All the staff at this hotel or outstanding…nothing is too much for these guys and gals
My rooms bathroom needs some tlc…mouldy sealant
Dated decor, stained dining chairs, very expensive drinks...the glass of wine was dearer than the specialist wine bar in the town. Our room had the smallest window which was high up which made the room really hot, I know that we were experiencing very high temperatures but when we mentioned it there was no offer of another room even though the hotel didn't appear to be fully occupied.
The decor of the hotel. very friendly staff..well set out breakfast with good choice
Bedroom window which looked out on to a wall. The bed quilt was far too heavy for summer. Grouting above bath needed attention
Everything was great! Clean rooms, comfy beds, nice decor, great staff. The only one thing, their was no AC. Stayed in June, temperature 28 degrees and was ok ish in the evening once cooled down with window open over night.
Location great and good breakfast
It was very hot but there was a fan in the room.
Really well located, lovely staff.
It was a hot night and the room was very warm even with the fan.
location
No parking at hotel, Breakfast poor.
The room was comfortable and the breakfast was good
The smell of damp or something similar was overpowering in the corridor between floor 1 and floor 2 Very nasty
Central location was ideal
Parking was a problem
Small room , creaky floors in building woken up by noise of others walking around! Had to change rooms as first one was so hot and had no window!
This hotel has lowered its standards generally since my last stay! Doesn’t smell clean and fresh when you walk through to areas where rooms are it’s stale and needs a good deep clean! Generally not on point with food either! Portions smaller and Sunday roast was one slice of pre cooked beef. Few vegetables and thin gravy!
Lovely friendly hotel,Nice food and pleasant stay
Hot bedroom only complaint
Good Location, nice friendly staff, clean room
No Complaints
Location, good atmosphere
Location and comfort
Lack of parking
In the centre of town staff always friendly and helpful.
There was nothing I didn’t like .
Go this time year for a reunion and it's always a great weekend
Saturday night was very busy with private functions. We struggled to get a drink and a seat seat but was OK
Location was excellent/ hotel inside looked good well presented Music on sat eve was poor told it was on until 11 30 but finished by 10
No aircon in bedroom/ very unpleasant night sleep/ fan was very poor you should invest in proper fans that cool the room Moved the radio as it kept coming on dust on table under radio
It was central for a lot of places
Hotel room was so small .and no. Air conditioning .could not sleep so warm .breakfast was awful not cooked probably . We did complain never offered any discount on breakfast it was not cheap
Great location. Local market just outside on Friday and Monday mornings . Good range of local cafes for breakfast /lunch. Easy access to Cambridge. Easy parking in pay and display 3 mins away Room clean but needs maintenance
Chose a regular double room as visiting friends during the day . Room needs upgrading . No drawers. Bedside light not working and not fixed despite telling reception . Damp mould on wall/ceiling in shower room. Grouting black and mould around shower fittings. We asked for water in our bedroom . Glasses provided but no water . We were asked if we had a basic or superior room as only the superior gets free water!!! All hotels we have stayed in provide free room water. Is this good customer service?? It was also a sweltering weekend with temperatures at 36 degrees during the day and not much cooler at night. No air con but fine with the fan they provided and open window.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff
Hot day, staff provided fans but were very cheap so only blew hot air. Room needs a freshen up which isn’t a big deal but also mould in bathroom and shower tray overflows. Someone had access to our room and came in while we were sleeping
Nice bar area, great location
Lack of air conditioning in bedrooms. We stayed during a heatwave so obviously this affected us more than it would have at another time. But the small fan provided in the room was totally inadequate. The heat in the room was unbearable so we left during the evening of our 2nd night. The restaurant was ok but the food wasn’t great quality.
Location was good.
Dreadful room: No window! Skylight only which had been left shut on a very hot day - it was like an oven. No indication when we booked that it was an internal room. Also they told us when we checked in that the kitchen was busy with a 50 seat booking and that we would need to eat out if we wanted to eat at a normal time. Our options were then limited as places were already booked. Why didn't they advise us of this before we arrived so we could book something ahead of time? Finally no one asked us how our stay was - we were relieved of our keys by the breakfast staff.
The hotel room was so small .and so warm no air condition gag could not sleep breakfast was awful was not cooked coffee was cold .would not stay there again
No air conditioning .and such small rooms
Traditional hotel tastefully modernised in the heart of a delightful small town. Great breakfast.
Very clean rooms. Draught beer selection: Poor. Feedback from my last stay: London Pride available but staff happy to serve pints when oxidation has occurred.☹️ Also, while you’re asking for feedback (which never see’s the light of day anyway) Shame! Why is Brixton always out of stock? Breakfast staff very good but please manage the bar, especially when Wetherspoons is not only 30 metres away. They can serve a pint properly. My advise to the GL is take pride in the bar. Manage it properly.
Parking outside this hotel for guest is confusing. Why? ‘Loading Only’. Perhaps HDC could help the Golden Lion?
Dynamic pricing makes it expensive when full
Hotel was clean tidy and very friendly staff
No lift in the hotel
Very warm welcome. Decent ale and a good menu. Lovely breakfast. Room was clean and the housekeeping left a written note welcoming me to the hotel. Nice touch.
The parking is Ok but, you have to keep an eye on the time. Parking in the square is fine from6pm but charge period starts at 7am
Loved the location, hotel was nice bar area good
The walls are paper thin, we could hear everything the next room where saying first night heard someone on the phone till 1.30am the 2nd night just people talking shouting until 2am so not the best night's sleep. Im abit picking on cleanliness, little things like grout could just do with a good clean with toothbrush . Tiny blood stain on bed cover!!! The food is well over priced we only ate there the first night, I had the sea bass which was lovely but what came with it was just tiny pieces of veg probably no more than a table spoon, hassle back potato's had been microwaved. My husband had the rib eye steak which I know is a fatty steak but only half of it was steak the rest fat, again not alot came with it. We enjoyed the area alot great base.
clean , friendly lovle😄y hotel
perfect stay
Great Team!

All of it
staff was so friendly. Great location great value for money
Going home
Great character and location. Pure luxury of the room and bathroom accessories. Windows that opened fully so no claustrophobic feeling.. Restaurant and bar snacks very good and available most hours.
Expensive breakfast as we only wanted a coffee and toast.
The noise from people leaving the bar late at night and revellers in the street below the room at 3am
I simply can't fault this hotel! We were attending a wedding at a different venue, and we're allowed to check-in early -without paying a fee for the privilege - so that we could drop our bags off and access the hotel late at night. The staff were genuinely friendly, our room was spotless, the bed comfortable and breakfast was superb!
There was nothing we didn't like. I'm just sorry that we're unlikely to stay in St. Ives again so that we could stay there again...
Beautiful hotel, very stylish, lovely breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable bed and stylish bedroom
One tiny thing but just to let you know, as everything else was perfect - the quilt on the bed was very thick and heavy and felt like it was too big for the cover, meaning it was bunched at the edges. On a fairly warm evening in May it was much too hot
Stayed here many times but this occasion we had room 20 which was very small and no bath. We had not asked for a room with a bath, which we should have done. Shower was very dated and in poor condition.
Given us an alternative room but claimed you were fully booked. Web site said otherwise.
Location.
The room had only a skylight for a window and was extremely hot when we arrived at about 8pm. There was no AC. Even with the skylight open for several hours the room remained very hot, and this was an April evening. We tried to change rooms but apparently the hotel was full. I don't think the hotel should let out a room such as this until it can control the heat.
Lovely decor welcoming
Room one mattress was uncomfortable not a good sleep
Location staa were very friendly and helpful
Some dust noted in room and bathroom but overall very clean.
It was clean, modern and the artwork was funky
It was a bit expensive for one night , one small room and my blind was broken so I didn’t want to touch it. The view was a brick wall.
Room was small but it had everything I needed including a lovely bath and comfortable bed.
Room was warm even with the window open.
Room was spacious, clean & well equipped. Staff were friendly & helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. And best of all the hotel was dog friendly!
Nothing
Typical English hotel. Something cute about that.
The morning staff wasn’t really good, helpful nor on top of her job unfortunately. That was shame. We and the others had to constantly get up and ask her for bits like/ top up coffee, honey, marmalade…. They all had it, it just wasn’t out there for grabs. She wasn’t much on the floor circulating, because it was quiet, but there was still 4-5 tables busy. Our corners of room were dusty and the shower had a mold along side the door, but that happens on old hotels.
Breakfast was excellent value for money. The location was ideal
The shower unit needed decorating
The staff were excellent. The hotel is well run. The restaurant excellent.. Excellent value for money. I will be back & advise my friends to stay. The town is a little gem & well worth visiting.
I liked everything !
Lovely staff and location, breakfast was great.
When was the last time the mattress was replaced!!! There were no springs, I could feel every peice of the metal structure of the mattress and The laterals of the divan caused waves in the bed!!! The worst mattress and bed I’ve slept on since the 1980’s when I stayed at an awful B&B in Scotland….
We had a family room, it was warm comfortable and clean. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The hotel was excellent value for me. Will definitely stay again
The only downside was that we pre ordered our evening meal days in advance and when we went for the meal the starter I had ordered was unavailable, everything else was great.
I love the welcome message the staff always leave in our room, the rooms are always clean & comfy, the staff in the bar & restaurant are always friendly too, the food is very good & we just love staying there & will be back again!!!
Nothing at all!!!
Conveniently situated on the market square. Parking is unavailable at the hotel but public car parks are close by and comparatively inexpensive. The hotel was clean and the staff were lovely. We didn’t have breakfast included in our stay as I felt it was expensive at £13 per person - Wetherspoons a couple of doors away is a great alternative - but otherwise it was good value for money.
Our room (17) was too warm, even in April without any heating on, which made it difficult to sleep. Also pillows weren’t particularly comfortable.
Clean, tidy and relaxing in town centre.
Evening meal was disappointing. Fish and chips very poor.
Was put on small double room20 where the restaurant extractor is located and runs from 7.30 till 10.30 loud humming throughly
See above
Ideally placed for our visit to our son. Very clean, super friendly staff and our room was extremely well presented and comfortable.

Great location Staff Good breakfast and choice
No free on site parking or parking voucher Room wasn't very big and not enough room to put 2 small suitcases on a shelf Toilet wasn't easy to flush Was noisy just outside room on wall I think due to extractor fans going on for hours
Beautiful room. Spacious. Nice and clean. Big comfortable bed. Big bathroom. Clean. Nice hand written notes about enjoying the room off house keeping. Right on the high street. Parking easy and cheap £4 for 23 hours car park two minutes away
Nothing
Quirky….amazing staff so lovely nothing was too much trouble
The room needs a good detailed clean..the window area needs attention and the pigeon dropping on the outside needs cleaning. A good deep clean and this room would by 11/10…great view and lovely space
Friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic value.
No issues at all.
Very comfortable room. Clean, warm and well stocked with toiletries. Only downside was our view, but we were only there overnight
The view
