Location perfect
Lack of warm breakfast
The breakfast unattended as we found when we wanted tea to drink. After ringing and calling for staff a young lady came in through the front door (a cleaner) who went to fetch some hot water.
As you know from the answer above, there was no-one to tell of the precarious condition of the shower door in our en-suite.
Old hall with character, staff were friendly and helpful Facilities were great
Nothing it was great
Lovely building, clean and welcoming, Nice place to stay, I didn't really see staff other than to hand over the key & was told where the room was, rather than shown, no real issue for myself, but would be a nice touch.
Not the hotels fault as such, however around 2am, there was a huge door slam in the corridor, I presume a guest coming back late, however the door bangs so hard that I jumped up out of bed, in my mind I was home, so ran to check on our children, but of course I was half asleep, woken by a very loud closing door & then struggled for over an hour to get back to sleep again. I would suggest doing something to ensure that door closes gently. There was a jacuzzi bath, but is was old and difunctional, IMO it should be replaced, even for a new normal bath.
Location was great
Continental breakfast was poor. We were in room 119 and there was constant noise late at night of staff closing the door next to our room. Don’t know if it was an office???
We got married at this hotel so are naturally biased but every time we stay over the standards are the same or in cases, better
The weather!! lol
Location
Peeling paint in shower. Cobwebs on main light plus flickering when on. Unattended breakfast room where every table had uncollected used crockery. Unattended reception to seek action for over one hour at breakfast time. Mould on window frame. Little recognition of the issues above when raised.
Bar food on Monday night
Hotel was well decorated and clean but looked like it was suffereing from leaks all around the building with buckets and trays laying around in many of the corridors.
Breakfast was very disapointing with some very plain ham and sliced cheese, bread was basic sliced bread and hard butter. Cereal choice was two options and nothing very appertising.
Lovely building very clean decore very nice and in keeping, well maintained rooms very nice.
We didn't like the fact that first a supier room we only had a double bed which really cricked with every movement, and the coffee was awful at breakfast.
Room was fine, no problem, bar staff in the evening were fantastic
Receptionist on arrival was overbearing and not very welcoming, breakfast was a joke, came down to nobody around, tables with uncleared plates from early risers, one irritated guest called it 'Fawlty Towers' only on Basil! More like 'Mary Celeste'.
Weekends there is supposed to be a cooked breakfast but only a continental which was OK but lacked variety
Only issue in room was shower very slippy which should be addressed otherwise great room.
The rooms and the staff were very nice.
When we checked in we explained my wife was a Celiac and if they could do anything gluten free for breakfast. Yes we reassurred that there were options. Got to breakfast and was informed there was nothing for breakfast gluten free. So we had no breakfast.
Close to the river
Paint coming off in shower water not hot enough TV didn't work
Despite the critical comments below, I was received personably and we left similarly personably...BUT!!, this could be improved , (see below)
no-one took my 'phone call Friday night or had replied by the time we arrived Saturday c.1100h Dislike the impersonal nature of hotels who don't have a human feature. No-one around on Sunday morning breakfast either.
Good price for a 1 night stay for 2
Missing shower curtain causing water to spew all over the floor. Slip hazard as floor was soaked Bedside light didnt work annoying as wanted to read No staff around at breakfast. Coffee cold. No milk. Waited ages for someone to come and the person who did finally appear seemed like she was a cleaner and not hospitality staff Doors slam - helpful to have soft close doors Good value stay but these were just a few niggles
Location and staff
Fabulous room with everything you could need from kettle and coffee machine to jacuzzi bath and separate shower. Lovely comfy big bed. Continental breakfast had good quality choices.
The jacuzzi bath unfortunately didn’t work but it still was a lovely bath so no big deal. No decaf coffee at breakfast.
Room itself was quite nice, good size and nice presentation. They were struggling a bit against the heatwave I think but the wall mounted fan kept it reasonably comfortable and I don't think the hotel can be blamed for the extreme weather. Parking was easy.
Breakfast was really quite poor I felt, especially for a limited window.
The room was nice with a 4 poster bed and a post bathroom
The music from thd bar made a thud thud beat in our bedroom all afternoon until 10pm which wasn't very pkeasant.
The staff at night was great and very accommodating.
despite ringing the bell on several occasion in the morning the day staff did not appear.
The staff were amazing; friendly and helpful. The bed was pretty comfy too.
I had emailed ahead to ask about an early check in. Unfortunately this was not available when we got there. We had a birthday lunch to attend, so got back to the hotel around 6.30 to check in. I had booked a twin room, and for a reason. However, by 6.30 the twins had gone and they only had a double left!!!! Not ideal. There was no hot water for a shower the following morning. Breakfast, to be honest, was a joke. Something that could have been jam, lumps of butter floating in water, cling film covered really cheap ham that was sweating due to the weatner6, croissants with soggy bottoms, poor fruit selection - no fresh fruit - and sweet flavoured yoghurts. A slice of toast was all I could eat - and didn't want to risk one questionable jam! I shall stay elsewhere next time.
The ambiance of the hotel and rooms was excellent, well furnished and comfortable. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace. The menu being small could be a problem for some people, it worried us but what we ordered for dinner was excellent. t
We stayed in room14 and in the morning wanted to shower but found that there was no hot water from the shower, so tried to settle for a strip wash only to find that the sink plug did not hold water in the sink, then tried to fill the spa bath and one of the taps fell of and again not hot water. You should be aware that it is a continental breakfast offering which I do not have a problem with but it is not serviced so when things run out they are not replaced. you are asked to clear tab the evening before you leave as reception is unmanned in the morning. This meant that when we went to tell the hotel of the problems we had had in our room so that the next occupant would suffer the same as we had, we did find a young lady there who did not seem to interested but she may not have been a receptionist. Taking all this into account it would not stop us revisiting the hotel again, we would check for hot water on arrival though.
Basic Continental b,fast but no Staff or cooked food.
Breakfast
Great location Peaceful Great staff
The breakfast could have been better My particular bed was noisy but comfortable
The decor was nice. The bed was comfy.
Coffee machine faulty. The shower needs a wand attachment. The breakfast was boring. The water for tea and coffee was luke warm. NO marmalade? No atmosphere. Needs some unobtrusive background music in the dining room
The location and the look
The facilities! No cold for brushing teeth, boiling hot , a bad smell and very dated
Beautiful building and nice setting
No hot water in shower. Breakfast buffet was not restocked so when we arrived there was hardly anything to eat. No tables to sit at as they hadn’t been cleared. No staff around to deal with matters.
The property is lovely and kept in good condition. The room was comfortable and had a very spacious bathroom. Easy parking. Nice hotel bar. The staff were all lovely and very friendly - when you did find them!
I’m guessing we were unfortunate to be there when the hotel was short staffed? There was no one to check in with on arrival- the hotel had to be searched for them! There were no staff when we checked out & there were no staff at breakfast! When we arrived for breakfast, the limited option was even more limited - as many of the plates & the coffee were empty - so we made do with what scraps were left! The tables hadn’t been cleared, so we cleared one ourselves & had to find some cutlery that hadn’t been used yet on used tables. I’m guessing we were just there on a bad weekend.
Such a lovely property with lovely decor. Felt cosy and clean, a home away from home.
Breakfast selection was a bit poor.
Beautifully furnished and room was beautiful and beds comfy
Lack of staff presence apart from the lovely receptionist who was very pleasant on arrival and check in. Breakfast was poor - no one to greet you or take your room number- could have just walked in off the street. Food on offer was open to the elements so not hygienic and was a minimum selection and tables weren’t cleared after use. One couple even had to find cutlery and crockery to have their breakfast. No one to help them until a cleaner had to be asked to replenish everything. When we checked out there was no one there to acknowledge you were leaving so asked a passing staff member who just said leave your key there. There was no “have you had a pleasant stay” I think the customer service needs looking into for the above comments as it’s a beautiful place but very lacking in customer service
Beautiful hotel with gorgeous rooms, decorated and presented to high standard
Continental Breakfast was good. Room was comfortable. Excellent location for my trip.
Nothing.
Friendly reception staff, upgraded room. Thank you.
Advised kitchen was closed, but was recommend places to eat, and inforned the bar closed at 10. I walked to the recommendef Italion and returned at 9:45...bar closed. Slept well. Breakfast....white bread mouldy, milk sour. Toast with brown bread, filtered coffee heater was off. I had to search for a member of staff found housekeeping. Told her about the milk. She took the large jug away, returned with another 10 minutes later, it was still off. Breakfast constisted of a slice of toast and cold coffee. Left 30 minutes later, still no one on reception. Looks nice would not return.wh
Good sized room, with comfortable beds. Nice bar and outside seating area.
It was very hot when we stayed and the room was very very warm (no AC). The noise from the road was quite loud all night.
The breakfast is limited but okay. Free parking Location
It was really hot during our stay and though we were able to open the window, there was no way to keep it open. The shower head badly needs cleaning as it was just mainly dribbling out but also spraying all over the bathroom resulting in the whole room including clothing, toilet rolls and towels getting wet through. We had to mop the floor up with the towels. Also the temperature control on the shower makes no difference if you try to alter it! Should have been checked before we were booked into the room as it was unusable! The milk needs to be kept cool during the breakfast period as warm milk and cereals are not a good mix.
The room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean
The continental breakfast was a bit too basic.
Distance from town centre and where I was heading to.
Good location
Room very hot
I was a lovely large room very clean, continental breakfast was very good quality ham and cheese, everything you'd want.great location friendly staff.
Only done side was wedding disco we were directly above, we'd have preferred a later check out so we could have, had a lie in 😆.
Very convenient location. Traditional hotel with small number of rooms and attached conference facilities. Continental breakfast included which we didn't expect.
Lack of water pressure - tried to run bath but it would have taken 15 minutes to fill.
Beautiful Georgian Building
Nothing
Lovely staff at the hotel and the really nice room.

A very nice hotel , walking distance from the town centre . The room was comfortable.
Sadly this was a major issue which I took up with the General Manager . The buffet breakfast was what could only be called a disgrace. Very little food available , we complained at the time to the member of staff we could find . T o be told the kitchen was bare yes that's correct . Add insult to injury some of the fruit that was available had mould on it ( blueberries ) I delayed these comments as we were offered a full breakfast refund however as yet this is still not been forthcoming .
It was so clean and comfortable
I found nothing wrong with the hotel
Just about everything about the stay. Staff excellent . Hotel and surrounds really nice . Breakfast very good .
It was really warm weather so better air con in rooms would have been better .
there were cobwebs on lights, switches that didnt work, bathroom very grubby it was very dated and tired, i have stayed before at this hotel.
nothing worked switches etc
Exceptionally clean, large FREE car park and bus stops right outside , best way to get around.
The rain shower
we only saw 2 staff but the hotel is really excellent, clean, beautiful room (4 poster bed)jacuzzi bath and shower, very good continental breakfast.
nothing
Very welcoming, helpful and clean.
.
It’s a beautiful property with wonderful staff
… but the four poster bed creaked with every movement and the room was very noisy. And there are not enough staff around
Location to the town
How clean the room was, although we were told about it being a wedding venue the music was so loud and went on until after midnight. The temperature of the shower was too hot and could not be controlled.
Everything was excellent ..
No Guinness on draft ( personal choice)
Nice decor, well kept. Quiet location but close to the town
The double room/ bed was way too small. Even for two kids it was two small- two adults would not fit in a small double bed. Some issue with cold water not working in the bath which made it difficult to use as piping hot.
Nice location clean hotel nice staff
The staff were fantastic and decorated lovely.
The noise from the disco made my dog stressed but the manager was brilliant and helped the noise not as loud, but when we stay next time I will ask for a room the other side of the hotel.
The staff tried to be helpful although couldn’t always deliver. A nice ambiance to the place, including decor and outside seating. The hotel was in a good location for our visit.
There were too few staff needed to run the hotel. Reception was not manned and when the bell was rung, no staff came to answer. There was no staff hotel uniform and it was unclear whether the few individuals were staff or not. Evening meal choices were very limited and the grapes with cheese board were frozen. The shower only ran cold water and the bath water speed was very slow. There were limited toiletries of shower gel and shampoo. Lumpy pillows, comfy bed but small for a couple to sleep well Breakfast very simple. No cooked breakfast option, no marmalade, only one pot of jam for all hotel guests There was no concierge service for booking a taxi for us
Location perfect for my stay, as I was there for a funeral occasion. The hotel was the base for the occasion.
Lack of staff availability. Breakfast was shocking, and I was unable to contact any staff member for assistance. Had notified hotel previously, by email, of my dietary requirements, which were reiterated to me on booking in. Requirements not met. Rang bell at reception five times in total on first morning, at breakfast and in desperation, emailed the hotel from the dining table. Spent almost two hours at the table hoping to catch a human to speak to and receive a response and a breakfast. Another resident walked around the hotel and spoke with a member of the cleaning staff on my behalf who came down, apologised and brought me some gluten free bread. I am indebted to that member of staff. I even found my own way to the kitchen assuming I would find someone there for sure. Not a soul! Hotel totally under staffed. With regard to dietary requirements, there is an exceptionally high risk of a potential medical emergency at some stage. I will be writing to management about all my issues today, as I checked out yesterday after a three night stay and have so many issues to raise with them. (Just for the record, I have NEVER complained about a hotel stay before and I am a pensioner. I am in no way a ‘serial complainer’ and want to make that abundantly clear to anybody who may read this). I write this with a heavy heart. There were several other issues that were negative including ‘health and safety issues’, which I will address with management by letter.
Ample parking , good location close to river . Decent cotinental breakfast . Welcoming atmosphere

Staff were great, beautiful outside space and great location for town centre. Food was good.
Room was like a sauna heating was on full blast with window open, tap was broken, jacuzzi bath didn’t work and scuffs all over the walls and woodwork, just a little tired. Should have bought own pillows as they were very thin! Drinks on the expensive side, paid less in London for a round.
Lovely hotel and friendly staff
Nothing
Room is very nice and clean Staff was amazing very friendly Shower was nice Bed was comfortable had a great sleep Breakfast was nice
Too hot for us
Ideally placed for where we needed, very welcoming and lovely staff, definitely worth stopping.
Nothing
No hot water. Nio staff. Worrying leak from dining room ceiling.
We spent our wedding night there 20 years ago, lovely setting and perfect place to sit outside in the nice weather
20 years ago it seemed very luxurious, now seemed very dated and run of the mill Only offered continental breakfast, which we didn’t bother with as it wasn’t recommended by one of the staff. He moaned about the hotel constantly, and was quite offensive
Check in quick. Bed was comfortable
On this instance, there was not hot water in the morning. It seemed to be hotel wide as several guests also complained during breakfast time. Also, there was a jacuzzi bath that didn't work, so they could have advised.
The Hotel was very beautifully set out and in a good quiet location. Close to the town and bus routes. Staff (when you saw them) very friendly and helpful. We ate in restaurant first night and the food was good. Clean throughout and pleasing on the eye.
No lift so not good for travellers with mobility issues. Room was long and thin which left little room either side of the bed to get in and out and the plug for recharging phones etc was in a difficult to reach location under the bottom shelf at the side of the bed. Small television quite a long way from the bed and mounted high on wall. No comfortable seating to sit nearer to watch. Rarely anyone about at breakfast which was a problem for me as I had asked them to store insulin in the kitchen so had to go and hunt for it myself. Breakfast was exactly the same things each day no variation and sometimes drying out . On booking in I was promised a full English breakfast on Sunday which I turned up for at 8.30 to be told Full English started at 9.00 I remarked that it was a short period of service 9.00 - 9.30 for people to obtain breakfast. (In our room it stated breakfast 7.30 - 9.30) I was then told that Full English was 9 until 10. As we had already arranged to meet family at 9.30 we had to miss it. There was no notice to say the times of the English Breakfast were different from that stated in the room. For the 3 mornings the room we normally had breakfast in was set up for an event so the continental breakfast was set out but we had to search for where they had put our table setting and one morning of these the bowls, plates and cutlery were in the room with the breakfast with nowhere to sit in that room. We had to decide where to go. There were no notices to explain why things had changed and what to do. Overall poor planning for breakfast facilities due to a shortage of staff presence.
Beautiful hotel and a great location! Free parking.
Breakfast could do with some improvements. Poor selection and the pastry’s didn’t seem the freshest.
Location , style and staff were lovely
There was a heavy metal music event in while we were there , the noise outside our room at 12.30am from the event staff packing up was not pleasant abd very inconsiderate plus our room was not ready until 6.30pm
Pretty building, in good order nicely decorated, friendly welcome from reception
Na
Location was good. The buffet set out for the party was very good. Staff very friendly. Bedroom clean, bed very comfortable. Bathroom good with everything you need.
The breakfast food was good but was let down by the plates being cold so the food quickly became cold especially the fried eggs. There was no lunch snacks only a restaurant menu which was not suitable.
Good continental breakfast with a decent variety. The communal areas were lovely and well decorated, and the beds were comfortable. The bedrooms looked nicely decorated at first glance. Staff were very quick to respond to any concerns.
Cleanliness in the rooms could be better, especially above head height – there were cobwebs around the lights and ceilings, and some bulbs were out or flickering. There are also many steps throughout the hotel, which makes it less accessible. The rooms could do with some maintenance and updating, as things like the toilet roll holder were loose and there were drainage smells in the bathroom. Security to the rooms could be improved, as there was no peephole on the door and no option to double-lock it from the inside.
Comfortable bed
Hot water in shower could not be made cooler, too hot. Had to flush toilet 3 times for it to flush properly . Would have been nice to have a cooked breakfast. No one staffing the bar.
Location
Unable to use shower as the hotel had issues with water pressure
Lovely rooms and bathrooms, very comfortable sleep, extra heaters in the rooms, etc.
Didn’t seem many staff around during our stay. We thought the bar was shut until somebody asked and we were told it was open, there was just nobody manning it and I think the lady on reception was also having to cover the bar so you felt almost bad to go out again to ask for more drinks. The same with breakfast the next day it was all laid out but nobody around. This might’ve been because there was a large event taking place that evening I’m not sure.
The property was beautiful..Plus the room was immaculate
The breakfast was continental. But myself and my partner are vegan.Plus my partner cannot eat wheat..No oat milk available,or gluten free bread.so we basically didn’t eat.Couldn’t find any staff 8am to ask the question if what we required was available..Our fault I guess for not putting our dietary requirements
Buffet breakfast satisfactory. Location ok for my needs.
I had no heating in the room - radiators not functioning, so I was cold. The water was also cold, even after running it for several minutes and so no shower was possible.
Continental breakfast was fine. Breakfast time was quite early but think that was to accommodate people who were staying because they were working in the area.
The room was really hot. Even during the night the heating was on. Had to sleep with window open. Hotel seems a little tired in places. Best part of our stay was the staff. Not many staff it seems but those that were there were really helpful and friendly. Think they are the saving grace at Slepe Hall Hotel.
Location was great, just a short walk in to St Ives. The staff on arrival were very friendly and the breakfast was good on both of the mornings that we stayed. The room and bathroom were very clean.
Our room seemed to have a boiler/water pump (Not sure which) of some kind right next door to it (We were in room 18). This came on multiple times during the night (As late as 1AM) and first thing in the morning, when it got going it sounded like the room was going to take off, therefore impossible to sleep through. Very disappointing as the room itself was nice but for the price me and my partner expected to be able to actually sleep through! The shower was also very poor, think maybe a problem with the pressure as it was the weakest shower I've ever had. Did try to tell a member of staff this as we were leaving, but couldn't find anyone on checkout unfortunately. I'm sure this only affects the rooms near the boiler/water pump but to have not been warned is poor from the hotel, as I highly doubt we're the first people to stay in that room!
Very clean and room was lovely. Bed was comfortable
Received a call prior to stay to upgrade to full English breakfast, on arrival told it was no longer an option, also big party going on until midnight, not told prior to stay
Pretty hotel, nice staff
Room was too hot No lifts and too many stairs to negotiate with a heavy bag
Staff were really helpful and friendly. We got the "best room" at the hotel we were told. It was very nice and "quaint" with a very large bath/bathroom
No cooked breakfast available....cold continental only
Good location and beautiful exterior of the property.
On waking up, there was no caffeinated coffee in our room and no one available on reception to ask. We dressed and went down for breakfast at 9am and although it was served until 10am, all platters were empty and there were no clean tables to sit at. Again no staff could be found so we left without breakfast despite paying for it! There were three rooms in this situation. Very early checkout time of 10am on a weekend. Room was uncomfortably hot on arrival as there were two electric radiators on full heat.
Lovely listed building. Nice internal decoration, comfortable bed, fluffy towels.
Having booked a superior room we asked to be moved due to constant traffic noise from road, and the bass beat of music being played in the bar and reception areas, this continued after the bar had closed. Like warm water in bathroom and a jacuzzi bath that didn't work. Restaurant closed on Monday evenings, which is not made clear until booking confirmation email is received. Buffet breakfast is an array of items covered in cling film, warm ham and cheese, no fruit and no staff in attendance. Luke warm filter coffee. No reception staff for checkout, just box for room key so no thank you, safe journey etc. This maybe because they don't want to hear the feedback.
Location is great. It's a short walk into town. The route takes you along the river which was lovely to do on a crisp winter morning. The bar and public rooms are really nice. As is the outside seating area.
We felt the 10am check out was early for New Year's Day. Our room was big and comfortable, but overall needs a bit of an update.
Good location for my work. Nice relaxed vibe with an easy buffet breakfast and an easy checkout process.
A slight delay getting into my room but staff were very accommodating and apologetic about the delay.
Staff. Top. Very helpful
Shower didn't drain
Value for money. Really lively family room.
Nothing.
Fantastic hotel, staff and value for money. Slight downside is we were above the hotel entrance and a lot of door banging and noise below us until late.
The Hotel is a very nice building
We phone forward to say my wife was diary free, yet at breakfast they struggled to find the Oat Milk, and on the second morning there was no staff on hand, the cleaner very helpfully found the oat milk in the bar fridge
Staff were friendly nice place to stay
the shower in the room was out of order and couldn't be used, wasn't informed until I checked in.
Really nice location, about 5-10 minutes walk into town or the quayside which is a good place to sit with a coffee. Good selection of pubs not too far away, and some nice walks too if it's not been too wet; walking the river all the way to Hemingford in warmer months is nice.
