Murray Library Hostel

I was so happy with the location and excellent value of the Murray Library Hostel - the bus stop is right out front! The area and surrounds are very sought after, so I was surprised at the great value. Upon staying there I got to experience the warm welcome of the hosts at the hostel, there are lots of games in the common room and the kitchen is so clean and beautifully light-filled. I loved the friendly atmosphere so much. The host Darius is so kind and accommodating that it flows down to all guests - everyone is so comfortable and happy to be there. You are able to socialise if you wish or enjoy quiet time reading, I would say it is the best hostel I've ever stayed in. Great location, great value, very clean and the perfect amount of social and comfortable.

I had to stay elsewhere in town one night because they were all booked out, ha!

De douche en wc was op de gang. Dat was van tevoren aangegeven, maar is toch wel een gedoe.

This hostel is a hidden gem along the Scottish shore it was very clean very comfortable and the boy Darius was always there to help I will definitely be back if im near this location

Vam pagar per un lavabo privat i en arribar vam trobar que els lavabos no són privats. Tenen el número de la habitació a la porta però no requereixen clau i/o codi per entrar-hi, qualsevol hi pot entrar i utilitzar-lo. Tampoc tens intimitat, ja que s'escolta tot dels altres lavabos, les portes tenen un forat per sota i no hi ha espai per la mobilitat. El llit es torçava cap a un costat i vam acabar amb mal a la esquena.

Par contre, le prix est très élevé par rapport aux prestations offertes : douche et toilettes privées mais sur le pallier. Nos voisins de chambre ont été très bruyant jusque tard le soir, mais aucune intervention des responsables. Petit déjeuner non inclus.

We really enjoyed our stay. Nice view from the windows, bed was a bit small but comfortable, toilet and shower were great. The kitchen and common room are actually very nice and comfortable and useful. Staff was very helpful. Everything was easy and comfortable, we'll be back. It's in the center, in front of the docks, it was easy and beautiful honestly.

Parking wasn't the easiest. There is a free one nearby but up the hill, but we got pouring rain and with the luggage wasn't the greatest moment to reach the car.

Endroit extrêmement chaleureux et accueillant, avec un vrai effort pour maintenir les lieux propres tous les jours. Il y avait des fleurs fraîches dans ma chambre à mon arrivée, et également sur la table de la cuisine (extrêmement bien équipée !). Des jumelles sont mises à disposition pour observer la mer depuis la chambre. La literie est un peu vieillissante mais confortable, et tout est propre.

This hostel is absolutely lovely! The building is centrally located and easy to find. The interior has been remodelled really nicely to support a hostel while still retaining original features from the old library and various little nods to the history. The room had a beautiful view of the harbour and the beds were comfy and sturdy. The entire place was spotlessly clean and the staff friendly. All the codes needed to access the building and the room were sent days in advance and there was a sign on the door saying they would be in the email for people who hadn’t seen. The showers were absolutely lovely- steaming hot, private and better water pressure than I have at home. The kitchen had a lovely atmosphere and any food left behind was clearly labelled as open use both in the fridge and on the side. There were 2 6 hob cookers along with several ovens and 2 sinks to allow multiple people to cook at once and there was free tea, sugar and ground coffee. Lots of charming crockery available and a wealth of pots, pans and other kitchen implements available and easy to find. Had a lovely stay and would absolutely go back!

My one ever so slight bug bear is the parking situation. There is very limited parking in the village and the 2 streets they said I should be able to park on were absolutely full. I ended up having to park around a 15 minute walk away which isn’t the end of the world just something people should be aware of. It’s always hard to park when you’re right on a sea front and there’s not a huge amount they can do about it hence i’ve not docked points!

great location. Very friendly helpful staff went above and beyond to keep us happy. Really enjoyed our stay comfy clean room . Will definatley be back. We as a family all loved it . No complaints at all which is un usual for me. Kids especially loved the communal room . The piano was a great hit with them and all the other entertainment games books musical instruments. Kept them entertained as we enjoyed a wee glass of wine through in the kitchen with large sociable table . Excellent place to visit. Thoroughly recommend…..

Such a great hostel. The view of the sea from our room was incredible, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. This was a perfect place to stay after our boat trip out to the Isle of May. Would strongly recommend!

Darius, our host, was very friendly and always accommodating, even when we got the arrival date wrong on our booking and had a few other organisational issues. The shared spaces are great, with a large, bright kitchen and a spacious living room with a beautiful glass roof. The place has lots of character and soul, while still feeling modern and comfortable. I highly recommend it!

Great location on the Harbour front, with bus stop at the front door. The old library building has been very well converted into a Hostel with a modern well laid out kitchen, but still keeping a lot of the original features.

On arrival the front door opens into a small entrance hall which is quite dark and the key pad is at knee height which can be tricky. A light would help. Beds are not numbered and it is not possible to request a lower bunk bed. The road can get noisy.

The building is full of character. We loved the library wall where you can write the name of a book which has meant something special to you. The kitchen was bright, airy and well organised with tea and coffee freely available. Showers were hot. Twin room was bright and comfortable. Host was friendly and on-hand if needed.

The Murray Library Hostel is a wonderful and charming place. The sea view from the bed is fantastic; the room was great, spotlessly clean and cosy. On the ground floor there’s a large, lovely and fully equipped kitchen, where we met a charming family who are also travelling through Scotland. Darius gave us a very warm welcome and we can wholeheartedly recommend the Library to anyone looking for a special place to stay. We’ll be back!

A great hostel right by the harbour with an excellent location and fantastic sea views - even binoculars were provided! The self check-in and check-out process was very easy, and the staff we met were very friendly. One thing to be aware of is that even rooms with a private bathroom have it located across the hallway rather than inside the room. You need to step into the corridor to use the shower or toilet, but this wasn't an issue for us.

Enginn morgunmatur í boði en sameiginlegt eldhús var mjög snyrtilegt, vel útbúið og mjög rúmgott. Svefnherbergið var mjög passlega stórt fyrir tvo með aðgang að sameiginlegu klósetti og baði (sem var líka mjög snyrtilegt). Rúmið í herberginu var einstaklega þægilegt. Við sváfum bæði dásamlega vel. Staðsetning mótelsins gæti ekki verið betri, við höfnina sem er mjög falleg og róleg og býður upp á fullt af matsölustöðum og kaffihúsum. Fólkið í bænum er mjög afslappað og vinalegt og vildi allt fyrir okkur gera. Rútan stoppar beinlínis fyrir utan gististaðinn. Það gæti ekki verið einfaldara að ferðast þangað.

Miðað við væntingar var allt alveg frábært. Það var engin lyfta, fyrir þa sem geta ekki lyft þungum farangri. Við reiknuðum ekki með því heldur. Kannski vantaði upp á að starfsfólk væri sýnilegt en þegar við töluðum við þau voru þau mjög hjálpleg. Við vorum svolítið látin afskiptalaus.

Everything was perfect. Located at the bus stop from Edinbugh, right on the harbour. Beautiful big room upstairs with a stunning view (Room 201) and a lovely shower.

8 bed doom could possibly be a squeeze (and hot) if it were busy, as the beds are arranged somewhat tightly in a medium sized room.

Tolles Hostel, mega Lage, super sauber, super ausgestattet (die Betten waren himmlisch bequem).

Alles war too! Ich wünsche mir manchmal einen Fön in Hostels aber vielleicht gab es den auch (ich habe nicht gefragt).

Easy checkin. Instructions emailed in advance were very helpful. Great location for hiking the Fife Coastal Path and directly across from the bus stop. There’s a large kitchen with everything you need to make meals and the bunk room was comfortable and clean.

Wir hatten das Familienzimmer im Obergeschoss mit privatem Badezimmer auf dem Flur mit Meerblick - und dieser war der Wahnsinn! Zimmertüre auf - Urlaubsfeeling an! Unser zimmer war sauber und alles da, was man braucht. Gemeinschaftsküche war im EG, und auch sehr schön sauber und gut ausgestattet. Schöne kleine Ortschaft und tolles Hostel!

Es war recht hellhörig, was bei einem so alten Gebäude normal ist. Uns hat es nicht gestört (wir waren aber auch die Familie mit Kind) 🫣

Excellent location, near to Anstruther harbour with restaurants and cafes within a minute's walk. Beautiful place with a nice big shared kitchen, and a great view with window overlooking the sea. Lots of things to keep one occupied in the lounge if the weather happens to keep you in.

It was a perfect location, sea view (with binoculars) , the bus stop is just right infront of the building, at the heart of the harbour so it's near to all shops and restos. Easy instructions for the check-in and beds were comfy. It's nice to have a communal area if you would like to cook and had some free coffee/tea as well. Given it's a hostel, though the toilet/bath are separated there was a designated for each room so you'll be sure you won't be sharing it with other guests. Highly recommended to book this stay.

Clean and comfortable room, with great view

For a hostel in a small tow n it has everything you could want and more, it does work by a self check in system, but the email explains everything. Alan was very helpful and gave me advice on how to get around.

You need to ask for towels and the lockers under the beds can be a squeeze, besides that, fantastic location and staff.

Second bathroom facilities out of action. It didn't affect me but helpful if both were available.

Darius was very kind and gave great advice for my journey. Room and bathroom was clean quiet and comfortable.

Great place to stay in a historic building on the harbourfront.

Etablissement très bien situé. Très belle batisse ancienne, chambre spacieuse, très calme avec cependant vue sur le port. Literie de qualité, lit très confortable. Nous n'avons pas pris nos repas sur place mais il y a aussi une grande cuisine très agréable, et une salle commune agréable aussi.

La salle de bains et les WC privatifs sont en fait dans le couloir, mais en pratique ce n'était pas très gênant.

Wonderful building, very well renovated! The kitchen was fantastic and so were the common areas. We had a double room. It was large with an amazing view of the sea. We loved our stay.

Room was bright and clean with a wash hand basin and good view of the harbour. Double bed was big & very comfortable. Singular communal toilet was clean. Twin communal showers were clean but one had an inadequate door lock. Communal kitchen is excellent.

No bedside light(s); no desk; no TV; single coat hanger on coats/umbrellas stand; no tumbler. Hot water tap in room wash hand basin took about 10 minutes to deliver warm/hot water. Communal showers took about 10 minutes to deliver warm/hot water. Bedroom decor is very dated.
