Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff arranged a Yala safari for us which turned out to be absolutely incredible. We saw SO MANY animals thanks to our guide. I can 10/10 recommend the driver Nissam- he spotted tiny lizards, a leopard, and so many other animals. He is a very talented guide! He really made our safari special. The staff at the hotel were also very friendly and the room was a good size.
The breakfast wasn't great but wasn't bad either.

The hotel was very nice and clean
Great location which was easy to access and not too far from the local shops and restaurants by foot. The hotel grounds were amazing and surrounded by various fruit, spice and coconut trees and bushes. Lots of butterfly's and birds around the garden. The property had an amazing pool which the kids really enjoyed and it was open until.late which was great after a long afternoons safari! We had a large 5 bed room which had pretty much everything we needed and outside the room was an open air lobby that had dining tables and a TV if you wanted to use it. Very nice layout to the hotel and very scenic. Staff were great and very approachable and responded to every request. The owner even gave my kids a lesson in shelling and opening coconuts which they will remember! Overall a great stay for a great price in a fantastic location!
All great
Easy access to town, lush green garden with a good pool and comfortable rooms. The staff took good care of us during our stay. Service was excellent.
The toilets are very slippery due to using the same wall tile for the floor. It’s a huge safety concern and accident waiting to happen I felt. Rubber carpets might be a solution to keep in the toilet to reduce risk. Over night stay was not provided with complimentary tea or coffee with a kettle in the rooms. It would be nice to have this provided in the rooms to compliment the stay.
Good location for visiting Yala NP, but a bit outside the city. Large clean room.
We seemed to be the only guests, so we constantly had to search for staff. The restaurant's seating area was completely unusable because of the mosquitoes. However, the food was brought up to the second floor without any problems, where we could also dine. For hours at night, there was a disturbing noise from a compressor or similar device. The main reason for this rather mediocre rating, however, is the hotel manager. We arrived at the hotel having booked and paid for a safari for the next day well in advance. The hotel owner bothered us all evening, constantly pressuring us to book the safari with him. He was insistent on knowing how much we had paid for our safari and was annoyed that I had arranged it for less than he was asking.
Fantastisk sted med dejlig atmosfære og smilende personale. Der blev virkelig kræset for omgivelserne og svømmepoolen var helt ideel efter en lang dag i nationalpark eller anden udflugt.
The staff at the hotel were absolutely wonderful. They made sure my partner and I had all we needed. Perfect location for going on a safari. The staff ensured we had a breakfast ready to take with us in the morning. We also had a lovely swim in their gorgeous pool. We would definitely stay again.
Nothing - it was perfect.
God swimmingpool
Værten var lidt nærgående. Bade faciliteterne på vc virkelig dårlig. Maden mangelfuld. De kunne lave to retter.
Tæt på yala safari park God pool
The hotel was clean and well maintained despite it looking a little aged. The pool was big and we enjoyed swimming in it. The surroundings had many trees and plants which were well groomed - and brought a serene environment to the hotel.
We had quite a struggle trying to contact the hotel prior to our arrival as we needed to make some changes. However, the staff who attended the call could not understand the situation, and were unable to assist us. We called Booking.com for assistance - but due to certain policies, were also unable to assist us. Ideally, the staff in charge should have a thorough understanding of the Booking.com process, including any necessary workarounds, to ensure smooth operations. This costed us a lot of our time attending and contacting Booking.com - which was unpleasant. Other than that, the stay was okay.
Lekker zwembad om even in af te koelen.
I had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The manager was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made check-in a breeze. The beds were super comfy — I slept like a baby every night. The pool was absolutely awesome, clean and perfect for relaxing. And you really can’t beat the location — it’s right in the heart of everything. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again!
Every thingnis perfect
Friendly staff
Very bad experience – Rude staff and poor service We booked a room at Nilketha Tissamaharama through Booking.com for the night of April 14. To be sure, I even called the hotel on April 13 to confirm, and they said that bookings made through Booking.com are confirmed and there is no problem. However, when we traveled all the way from Colombo and arrived at the hotel, the receptionist rudely told us that we had to pay in advance, even though it was not mentioned anywhere on Booking.com or during the phone call. Then they claimed they couldn’t find our booking on their system. When we explained what was said to us on the phone, the receptionist started shouting at us instead of helping. They even called another boy who checked the phone and found our booking, but the receptionist still said there was no booking under our name. The boy confirmed it was there, but they blamed him for not writing it in the book. Even after we proved that we had a valid booking, the receptionist refused to give us the room. He was extremely disrespectful and even tried to hit one of us. This is completely unacceptable behavior. We were treated very badly and had to find another place to stay at the last minute. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. They do not respect their customers and clearly have no proper management.
It is good room and excellent swimming pool
Room and swimming pool
Spacious accommodation, short walk to the Main Street, fine for us for one night for going to Yala Safari. Our room was older than the photos and shower was ok. Good aircon and staff were very helpful.
Not much around for tourists in the town, only a base for Yala
The location was good for the National parks and the garden setting pleasant. We were disappointed that there was a problem with the pool so the water was too murky to swim in. The hotel is ok, but a bit down at heel. We didn’t have any hot water in the shower either.
My favourite thing about this hotel was the swimming pool 😁
Nothing as they double booked us. We had to find another hotel and we had a 2 year old! No help and not much of an apology either.
Nothing as they double booked us. We had to find another hotel and we had a 2 year old! No help and not much of an apology either.
The pool was perfect, the surroundings are like being in a jungle, and the property was well located, friendly and helpful staff
Our room was ok but very dark and the sheets were a little small for the bed
Very very close to the town where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. The owner even gave us a lift to a restaurant he recommended one of the nights. We were getting a late taxi and let us stay poolside for the day whilst waiting for this. He offers a private Safari service too which unfortunately we didn’t use but had we known he did this service we would have.
Beautiful hotel, nice pool and friendly staff. They helped to arrange the safari.
Excellent hotel to access the incredible Yala National Park.
Wonderful stay!! Spacious, super clean room (high ceilings and big room)....the grounds are gorgeous, ample common areas, and the staff were very kind. The restaurant was a great value and super convenient!! Definitely a wonderful place to stay!! Only a small knock bc the laundry was quite expensive (even by USA standards) and not cleaned (or dried) to my expectations for the price
Clean, organised and good facilities. Beautiful pool area
The setting, gardens and pool were very beautiful (although the tiles around the pool were dangerously slippery). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent.
There were major issues with the water to our room, in that more often than not we had NO water or just a trickle from the basin tap. We had sporadic hot water when the water did flow. This made our Yala safari trip difficult as we had a long day with a very early start and late finish. The staff did try to fix the issue, but the results were only temporary, and the problem persisted throughout our two-night stay. Also, the restaurant times were inconsistent, not being open when expected and many items offered on the menu were unavailable.
Nice big hotel with a good restaurant and safari trips, good base for Yala
Accommodation was okay, toilet very bad, water pressure weak. Pool is great, clean and good temperature water. The host at the reception is very pleasant, however the elderly man for whom they said is the owner kept coming to us with tasteless jokes and does not know personal space. They organized a safari to Yala National Park for us. It cost us $70 per person. The park is beautiful, but we were not satisfied with the driver.
Pool was good and young staff were helpful and outgoing (played cricket with the kids)
The owner was overbearing and overcharged us with our safari tour
AC Pool Receptionist
Mess – dirty bathroom and dirty bed linen Electricity and water were often not working No hot water Weak Wi-Fi connection Staff around the pool were harassing us Very noisy Poor room amenities – no bathroom supplies, no hairdryer, no fridge in the room.
Great place to stay if you are travelling to national park Yala
The garden is quite beautiful and wifi was working well
1) no kettle/ coffee kit 2) no hair dryer 3) no soap, shampoo or toiletries 4) no indian food at the restaurant 5) 3% additional charges imposed on card payments (even for preloaded/debit cards)
Restaurant, staff
No hot water, pool, mosquito
Close to Yala for our Safari, staff were very helpful
The location was good. Food was okay.
NA
Toilets are very dirty and smell very bad the smell goes to the room.
It was our sixth stay on the road and everything was great. Huge helpful staff, smiling, arranged for us to enter Yala Park, did their best for our comfort. Absolutely quiet location.
Everything was great
Staff, location, accessibility
The hotel doesn't take dollars as payment and charges premium for payment. Effective rates increased. Fraud
Awesome pool. The room was clean and no mosquitoes.
Breakfast didn't meet our expectations compared to other hotels in Sri Lanka. There was a lot of flies in the breakfast area outside. We had to wait a long time for getting warm water in the shower.
Very comfortable rooms, the pool was a nice place to relax on a hot day. Easy to walk to nearby restaurants. (There isn’t tonnes to do in the area, we came for a yala safari)
Good location for the park. Hotel organised a tuk tuk driver to take us to the lake and to see bats. Lovely gardens and pool. Great breakfast and evening meal. Host went out of his way to accommodate our requests. Good, spacious rooms and general facilities.
The pool and staff
As the hotel was far from the town we asked if the restaurant was open the manager said yes and we booked for 7.30 was given a menu and picked our food waited over an hour for the food to arrive in between that time we noticed one of the staff nip out on a scooter and then came back an hour later with a take away we joked saying that as our food and guess what it was !! Stone cold…. We ate it out of necessity as we were starving…….then come to check out and they ripped us off first they charged 10% service charge on the food (joke) then they hyped up the room (which was standard and old)…….we paid and moved on as we was being bitten to death by mozzys…..still thinking something wasn’t right when we got to the next hotel we asked our friends who were travelling with what they paid and it was 6000 rupees cheeper…..which I can’t get my head around as we both booked together on Booking.com had the same rooms, ate the same food……spoils the trip…..so far this has been the most expensive hotel on the trip…..we’re currently in a hotel far better on the beach, cleaner, modern, restaurant on site to cook food and the staff can’t do enough for you……chalk n cheese…….one last thing the manager chased out to get us before we went to say put good google review on !! Go figure
Nice pool, allowed to bring your own drinks
Food was tasty but just warm when served, should be hot
A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. My room was large and very comfortable with a nice terraced area just outside where I had lunch and morning coffee. The gardens created a wonderful outlook and a short walk around the back of the property takes you to a very scenic expanse of rice fields. The pool was well maintained and the hotel clean. The location was also quiet and peaceful without being far from the centre. The manager/owner and staffing team made sure I had everything I needed, food was tasty and the safari tour they organised for me was exemplary. I even saw two jaguars.
Fabulous pool and surrounds. The room and ensuite were comfortable. Manager very friendly and helpful.
Nothing
The staff went out of their way to make sure I had the best stay
The pool was closed for cleaning which was a shame, but it has to be cleaned sometime!
Easy access, comfortable stay and friendly staff.. Tasty Sri Lankan meal.
The garden and pool were beautiful. The safari organised for us was great with a nice guide! The manager was welcoming and helpful.
The cleanliness of the hotel room was lacking and we had to ask for our sheets to be changed. Also as female travellers the male hotel staff made us feel uncomfortable when we were at the pool.
Nice hotel with a nice pool. Perfect location for a safari to the Yala NP, helpful manager.
Service at the restaurant was slow and not very friendly; staff made fire next to the pool, thus there was lots of smoke and ash in the air.
Hotel Nilketha is a new property with modern rooms that have a distinctly Sri Lankan style. The air conditioning works well, and the pool area is nice, with towels provided. The hotel has plenty of space to walk and sit, which we appreciated. The WiFi is good in common areas but unfortunately doesn't reach the rooms, so we found ourselves sitting outside our room on a rainy evening. One positive note is the front desk manager, who was very helpful in resolving a booking.com error, only charging us for three nights plus the booking.com fee when the platform was unreachable.
However, our experience was mixed. We didn't have hot water for three days, which was disappointing. While the staff was attentive in arranging our first safari at a reasonable price (paid in cash), we felt uncomfortable with the persistent follow-up when we decided to arrange our second safari independently. We ended up booking through Agoda, which was both cheaper and a better experience. This left us with a slightly uncomfortable feeling, as the line between hospitality and pushiness felt blurred. It's also worth noting that the hotel doesn't offer breakfast directly. Instead, it's available at Javu’s grestaurant, but you have to pay in cash for every meal. Unfortunately, the service there was a bit 'cold,' and the soft drinks weren't chilled, which added to our mixed feelings about the stay.
Staff was very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean, garden is nice and the pool was good. We had traditional Srilanka food and it was very tasty.
It was good value for money. Nothing we didn't like.
The location and the atmosphere of the hotel was wonderful.
Amazing! Pool is wonderful. Price value is good!
it was amazing everthing it was very nice well done guys good work
Good stay overal, the location is good: a bit away from the centre but still close enough to walk there in 10 min. The staff was kind and helpfull. They helped us with arrangeing a safari for us which went great!! The pool is also great, for this price you couldnt ask for more.
The showerhead was chalked up.
The property was so relaxing and beautiful with a nice pool and seating area. The manager and staff were so prompt and helpful. They guided us and helped us going over and beyond. The location is perfect and the property is huge. If u are in yala this is the place to stay and enjoy. 10/10 recommend
The pool was awesome, rooms were really nice, clean and comfy. Female kitchen staff were very sweet. Good place to stay for 1-2 nights..
My friend and I are traveling together, as 2 young female traveler’s we did feel uncomfortable at times. When we were swimming one of the older male staff came over and said we “looked good” which left us feeling very uncomfortable in the pool. The owner of the hotel was very involved, always around hovering and watching over everything we did. On the first night he came and knocked very loudly on our door whilst we were sleeping to ask what we would like for breakfast (even tho we had told him earlier what we wanted). The whole interaction was unnecessary and inappropriate. This made us feel very uneasy. We seemed to be the only tourists there the whole stay so it was an odd experience.. again this place is fine for 1-2 nights if you are in a group but would not recommend for solo females.
Staff are very welcoming and friendly here! The hotel is situated in a beautiful garden, with a stunning pool area. Rooms very comfortable and clean. They also have a lovely restaurant area for breakfast and dinner. A short 10 minute walk into town. We will be sad to leave!
Location is beautiful. Hotel was surrounded by lots lots of trees.
Attitude of staff and service.
big clean room, nice pool, restaurant on site with limited menu
location isn’t really close to anything but they do have bikes you can use to get around easier
Nice pool and big rooms. The manager let us keep one room for the day so we could change after our safari
Staff were all very friendly but service was a bit odd. There seemed to be confusion over a few things
Great location. Beautiful garden. The staff were really kind and helpful and arranged a safari for us. We loved the swimming pool and we had a very nice and relaxing time.
