Staff super friendly and helpful. Location fantastic for the racecourse. Bed was comfy. Easy to park and convenient to walk to the town centre.

Room was dusty. Hanging space for clothes is limited to about 6 hangers on a rail and nowhere to put other clothes. It's fine for a couple of days. Rooms are on the pricey side but the location for our needs compensated for this.

Le principal problème concernait le petit-déjeuner. Notre réservation incluait le petit-déjeuner, mais le personnel a refusé d'ouvrir la salle à 6h30 pour les départs matinaux, et n'a même pas voulu préparer un simple sac petit-déjeuner à récupérer à la réception. Je n'avais jamais vu un hôtel refuser de servir un petit-déjeuner déjà payé. Nous avons dû discuter longuement avec le personnel pour obtenir l'ouverture de la salle. Le samedi soir, le restaurant de l'hôtel était réservé pour une soirée privée, sans que nous en soyons prévenus à l'avance. Comme il n'y a pas d'autre restaurant à proximité, nous avons été contraints de dîner dans notre chambre. Dans l'ensemble, on a eu l'impression d'un hôtel qui privilégie son propre confort à celui de ses clients. Je n'y retournerais pas.

Very disappointing stay. The weekend staff were rude and unhelpful throughout, and never offered real solutions to any of the problems we raised. The biggest issue was breakfast. Our reservation included breakfast, but the staff refused to open the dining room at 6:30 for early departures and would not even prepare a simple breakfast bag to collect at reception. I have never experienced a hotel refuse to serve breakfast that was already paid for. We had to argue at length with the staff just to get the breakfast room opened. On Saturday night, the hotel restaurant was closed to guests for a private party, with no advance warning. Since there are no other restaurants nearby, we were forced to eat dinner in our room. Overall, this felt like a hotel that puts its own convenience ahead of its guests. I would not recommend this hotel.

Rooms are tiny and there is absolutely no storage for clothes or bags apart from a rack with four hangers, meaning we were constantly tripping over our bags which took up most of the floor space. No conditioner provided in bathrooms. Breakfast choices are fairly limited (eg only honey and strawberry jam are on offer as far as spreads go) and anything other than filter coffee has to be paid for. The door to our room was warped and needed closing with force.

Good quiet location, yet Newbury close by. Comfortable room.

Nothing significant, but access to car park is annoying as there is a barrier which stops access from one side resulting in you having to take a detour to get there. The bar was also shut for a private function from 5pm which was a shame

It’s the little things: drain smell in bathroom, coffee and juice machines all empty at breakfast, reception staff not looking up from phone when being talked too. Not awful by a long chalk, but it’s stuff you remember. I’m afraid our evening meal in the bar, was really poor The burgers and bun burnt and rock hard, and looked suspiciously like microwaved packet meals.

Breakfast was excellent. Room was clean and pleasant, bathroom was well equipped and the shower was easy to use.

There could have been some storage space for clothes, in addition to the coat hangers.

The room wasn't big and there was no room for your case or chair.

It was nicely decorated in the foyer/bar areas. The rooms were very basic but served their purpose. The aesthetic of the hotel was nice but some modernisation is needed in the rooms.

I found the rooms were a bit worn. In our room the ceiling had cracked by the door and there were marks on the walls, the light by the door didn’t work so we only had one ceiling light and the small lights at the side of the bed.

Had to go to reception at 11pm at night when we realised they don’t supply milk in the rooms for tea and coffee, reception said the milk goes off. Not sure if they realise you can buy long life milk and keep it in a cool area of the room for the few hours before guest arrival. I’ve never stayed in a hotel without milk before!

Security.. anyone can enter the lift by the main door and is out of sight of the reception. No lift key card so you can just enter the hotel and go straight to the rooms. This is a real security problem especially if there was a function or race meeting.

We enjoyed staying at the Lodge Hotel. The staff was very helpfull. The restaurant and the car park was valuable bonuses! It's very close to Highclere casttle, the place we were visiting afterwards.

Moja rezerwacja została odwołana w kuriozalnych okolicznościach o godzinie 16:30, gdy byłem praktycznie 30 mil od hotelu. Postawiło mnie to w bardzo niewygodnej sytuacji szukania nowego hotelu na ostatnią chwilę.

Perfect location for the racing and the staff were fantastic.

Felt value for money was lacking as you get better for the price however understand the location is it’s selling point.

It’s a very strange hotel. No soul to it. Lift broken, lukewarm reception. No milk pods in room- called down asking for them, to be told I’d have to come down to get them- advised I was in my PJs and the lift had broken so I got a “well sorry then” and no offer to bring them to me so I went without. Room was functional, mostly clean. No bedside cabinets bar a cubby hole in headboard and the shower although rainfall type had poor pressure and the temp was not very hot. Bed comfortable- it was modern but could do with a deeper clean. It gets bad at breakfast- rude and disinterested staff- no hello and everything was too much trouble . Asked for more milk as only a tiny amount left which was grumbled at. At 0945 when we were still eating our cooked breakfast, she turned off the toaster and took away part of it to clean as well as switching off the hot water. Given her clear distain, we decided against asking for toast. The breakfast was okay- not a great sausage. No lattes or cappacinos available unless you paid extra. This is a strange hotel and vibe. I absolutely would not return again. I use hotels regularly and this was the worst one I have used.

The bed was very big, and comfortable, bur far too big for the room, nowhere to sit, no chairs. A standard UK king size bed would have been better The bathroom had very long hairs on the floor There was only one pastry left for continental breakfast at 8.15 a.m., the duty staff said that was all, did not offer to get anymore The breakfast was not as expected, very disappointing

Extractor fan squeaked constantly. The room was so small, no room to walk or to put cases. Breakfast was rubbish. Shower small and not overly clean.

Shower didn’t drain, I could only be in the shower for about 3 minutes before the base was overflowing onto the floor. Room was incredibly hot in this weather - I understand we have had abnormal heat this year but it was very uncomfortable. Most hotels in this price range have A/C. Rooms are very small and compact.

Locating the property. The postcode provided took us to a coded barrier which we couldn’t access. There was another code on the barrier which took us to another entrance. Hotel should provide new postcode

Was not made welcome, bingo. Ight and we were discouraged from eating in the restaurant . Noise from fire doors all night ruined any chance of a good nights sleep

Unfortunately I've had to conclude that this hotel is not currently a safe place to stay. The main issue is the lack of physical security, which is totally inadequate and out of line with modern hotel practice. When the entrance door is unlocked, which is the whole daytime and until late in the evening, anyone can enter the lift and travel to either of the guest bedroom floors unobserved and completely bypassing reception. The lift should be equipped with a keycard access system to ensure that only guests can access the upper floors. This is standard practice in hotels these days. The stair access door on the ground (reception) floor should also be keycard controlled because the reception desk cannot be manned at all times. I don't know whether all these public areas have security cameras but that's irrelevant - cameras can't be monitored at all times, and even alerts from motion sensors will be missed if staff are busy with other tasks. I am also concerned that staff are not following the appropriate processes to keep guests safe. A member of staff entered my room at 2am, thinking it was unoccupied. This should never happen in a hotel. I have, of course, raised these matters with the hotel management in writing. They have assured me that they will take steps to ensure that staff know - and check - whether rooms are occupied, and that they will review the physical security. But they made no specific promise to install access control. Looking beyond these concerns, the staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but OK. Breakfast was good. There's plenty of parking. The location is great if you are visiting the racecourse but otherwise getting there from the town centre involves a tedious and lengthy loop through the trading estate (because hotel guests cannot enter via the road barrier that gives direct access - crazy!).

Está en un sitio muy curioso, en una pista de carreras de caballos en uso. Además lo bueno es que tiene una parada de tren justo delante y se puede llegar perfectamente sin coche. Al ser en ese sitio la zona es super tranquila (obviamente no había carrera cuando fuimos, sino otro gallo cantaría). El personal muy simpático.

Fuimos en plena ola de calor. Error. No hay aire acondicionado en ningún lugar del hotel, mucho menos en las habitaciones, y el calor era realmente insoportable. La zona de la recepción especialmente era un horno, pobres recepcionistas que tenían que atender con un mísero ventilador sudando a chorro. A parte de esto, la habitación era pequeñita y la ducha encharcaba un poco, pero el calor fue el principal problema.

No a/c anywhere! Very disappointing considering it is such a new hotel and during the hottest week of the year this was unbearable. Everything was just a bit grubby. Receptionist was pleasant enough but was casually chatting with her friends who had their feet up on the furniture in the reception lobby. We felt like we were disturbing them to check in. Because of the heat the kitchens were closed and only pizzas were being offered - this seemed to include for breakfast! Tiny shower & toilet facilities.

Great venue for me got a one night stay over on the way to France. Would happily stay over again. The staff were efficient in balancing covering reception, the bar and servicing the restaurant.

Not an issue for me, however the railway station is the otherside of the car park so rooms on that side of the hotel are prone to hear the noise of the trains during your stay. (I'm sure if it was asked at Reception, an alternative room on the otherside of the hotel could be arranged).

Lovely spacious rooms. Well decorated with loads of places to plug in things to charge. Really nice bar in the hotel with outside seating. Free parking. Just a short drive from Newbury.
