Breakfast was exceptional for vegetarians! Unusually good. Everything worked as it should. Location was nice.
It was a little tired looking. The bathroom was clean but worn.
Lovely food, good facilities
It’s getting a bit dated now and some of the repairs like broken tiles in the showers aren’t being done
Everything!
Nothing!
The customer service is DISGUSTING (!!) They've decided they don't want to deal with my complaint so just stop replying. Honestly I cannot believe the state of it. None of the management can take accountability. I've asked for a refund and their response is "we don't have your money, booking com do" which is literal 🐴💩
Short stay break. This hotel would be lovely if it was kept in nice condition. Not received a link of paint for 23 years. Thread bear carpets with showers not attached to the wall and with not enough hot water unless you set the alarm for 5am. The mattress was falling apart, and you could feel every spring. Swimming pool tiles falling off and only one swimming pool shower had any soap.
Staff are all local and very friendly. The food was very good and the parking was great.
Location and space
Menu
Friendly staff, great location and mostly very clean.
Extremely poor level of maintenance. Unsafe in a number of ways such as loose stair treads and scalding and uncontrollable water in shower. Numerous other maintenance problems including window that wouldn't shut, TV remote not working, peeling paintwork, bathroom light not working, noisy boiler, broken socket in bedroom, and nobody on reception to report this to on checkout. Given the poor attention to maintenance throughout the hotel, we didn't use the pool and sauna facilities as we worried that they may be unsafe too.
Breakfast and dinner were very good.
The bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom needed improving as the toilet seat was very loose and could have been dangerous if it had come off and the shower was in the bath off the taps and no shower screen.l think it all needs a bit of maintenance to improve it.
breakfast and the staff
Really noisy extractor fan outside our room, didn't turn off until gone 9.30 in the evening and came back on at 5.22 AM, so bad we only stayed for one night instead of four, then when we tried to get a refund, even though the staff at the hotel agreed with our situation and said they would approve the request, , the parent company have refused a refund for the three nights we didn't stay there. As well as the noise, from one window we had the view of the offending kitchen extractor system, out of the other the bins! and this was a 'suite'.. This place needs massive reinvestment, the carpets are grubby, the dining room is old and tired, the spa is a joke. This place is a stain on the Welsh hospitality industry. I have spoken to booking.com, the oyo booking, seems they were agents too, and the hotel itself, all agree I should get a refund, all but the parent company, Belvilla, who don't give a flying f*** about any of it they are keeping my money , even though we were offered nothing like the hotel promised in the descriptions. Avoid at all costs.
The property was in a beautiful location. Our room was lovely and well equipped. Reception staff were very polite and helpful.
Limited menu for evening meal. The bar needed some work. Staff were not the best to be fair. After standing at the bar waiting to be acknowledged we decided to go and eat elsewhere which is a shame. Breakfast was good though and staff were helpful.
Excellent location and great value for money! Brilliant facilities!
Little bit out dated decor but that doesnt really matter much
Very good
My wife and I stayed here for a weekend getaway, and it was a lovely experience. The bed was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean, which made for a great night's sleep. The staff were also wonderfully polite and welcoming throughout our stay, also food was very nice and tasty, compliments to the chef.
Unfortunately, the hotel felt quite outdated and in need of some refurbishment. There was a strong smell of damp coming from the carpet in our room, which was a real issue as my wife is asthmatic — we had to keep the (very small) window open for the entire stay just to manage it. The window itself was quite dusty and could have done with a clean. The swimming pool and hot tub water also didn't look particularly clean, and I'd suggest the filters may need changing or servicing more regularly.
The staff were excellent, the spa facilities were lovely. Breakfast had great options
Spa facilities could be updated.. Tiles in jacuzzi, could be redone and there were spiders in corners of our bedroom and bathroom
Beautiful location
Run down. All needs a complete do over. The pool and in particular the jacuzzi need maintenance and retiling. Carpets need replacing, as does all dining furniture. Drafts in the dining room need to be sorted.
Lovely location, friendly helpful staff and a great room
Nothing to dislike
Location and staff
The hotel is tired. It needs to be decorated and cleaned really well. The bar was grubby with games that had seemed to have been their years too dirty to handle the tables were sticky. The food was very expensive considering it was a very basic menu. It was old-fashioned the food could’ve been known on that menu 25 years ago.
Nice pool, food was good.
Dated interior, cold, damp, mould (room 14) broken fittings, food over priced.
The gym, swimming pool and sauna. Food was nice but I though expensive at £28 for Salmon and chips.
My room was no.14. The noise from the kitchen extraction fan was excessive when the window was open in the corridor. Steam from the bathroom is vented into the corridor. I fell down the step out of my room into the corridor. It felt cold and damp in the room. Damp could be seen with mould growth coming out of the outside wall. As the heating (1 radiator) was turned off, no heating from Sunday through to Tuesday, I was cold in bed. No additional blankets were found in the room so I slept in my clothes. On Wednesday evening, I noted that the heating was on so managed to dry out my wet swimming shorts after putting them on damp each evening. The plumbing is noisy and kept me awake every time someone in an joining room ran a tap or flushed a toilet. The decoration, carpet and fittings and bathroom are all dated. I used the shower in the gym. The gym changing facilities are dated and not maintained. Broken fittings evident. I was charged double (two rooms) for the Sunday night in error. I was promised a refund but this has not happened. I left on the Thursday morning (paid for Friday night) earlier than planned as I wanted a good night sleep.
Das Essen war hervorragend. Das Personal war sehr nett und zuvorkommend.
Die Unterkunft war generell sehr heruntergekommen. Auch das Schwimmbad und die Sauna war vernachlässigt. Wir würden dort nicht mehr buchen.
Fabulous location and friendly staff
Very dated especially the spa area but was clean
Pleasant ground and a warm welcome on arrival. The spa facilities appeared to be good although we didn’t use them
Room & bathroom were tired and dated. Bath was extremely slippery and in need of updating. Food was expensive and limited
Outstanding breakfast. Helpful staff. Great location
Only one bedside table
The location was brilliant for us to explore the surrounding area.
It was dirty and needs some serious updating. The walls has scuff marks all over them, the banister on the stairs was dirty, carpets were worn and dirty everywhere. To me the hotel needs a good clean and walls painted. Our room had marks all over the walls, cobwebs all around the ceilings and dirty stains on the curtains.
The staff are absolutely excellent
I booked a twin and I emailed to make sure We were offered a double and the hotel - I was travelling with my elderly mum so a double was not appropriate as she has a disability The hotel went out of their way Moved us which meant 2 different rooms
Location
Cleaning
Loved the spa facilities and breakfast. Staff was friendly, plenty of parking, serene location. Extra heater and fan was provided.
No dryers in the room was a bit of a let down. No toilet cleaning brush in the toilet.
It was easy to find and good parking friendly reception staff
The hotel could really do with up dating the walls doors etc was really dirty and chunks out the walls. Spiders in hallways and loads in the main eating area. I had a blood stained pillow. The pool looked old and shabby the sauna had tiles missing as did the pool
locations great. The swimming pool was good. The food was good.
There was no overhead shower in our room.
Our bed was comfortable, nice size bedroom with sofa. The food was delicious. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The location was beautiful.
The swimming pool toilet and showers were pretty grimy and in need of updating. There was no towel rail to hang wet towels in our ensuite
Friendly helpful staff comfortable bed lovely new carpets fan and heater in room Lovely pool and hot tub Good breakfast Checkout time was 11am so no pressure to rush breakfast
The television could have been slightly larger
Rooms comfortable, use of the pool and sauna.
Shower was cold in morning, reception reported they thought issue with boiler from night before had been fixed? Ended up using shower by pool. On the morning of leaving wanted to use sauna when open at 7am not switched on and Receptionist advised she had forgotten as busy sorting out issues from night before but then attended to this straight away. Cooked breakfast good but poor quality continental breakfast and orange squash, which was not drinkable instead of juice.
Great location. Staff friendly and clearly trying their best. Good public transport links.
Room was dated and clearly in need of some renovation. Mould in bathroom and by windows. Mattress was springy and clearly ancient - really uncomfortable sleep. Continental selection was fine. Took ages for our order to be taken for the cooked breakfast. Cooked breakfast itself was stingy in portions (one half-size sausage in the "full welsh breakfast"!) and of not great quality (naff tomatos mushroom and beans).
Honestly. Everything was excellent. Very nice, and big room, lovely bathroom. The pool area is very pleasant, and the Jacuzzi and sauna are excellent. I didn't manage to try out the gym, but it is very well-equipped too. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the massage this time, but I am very satisfied with everything. My buddy and I had a really great time. Oh, and the breakfast is excellent and really delicious, too 😋 with a wide range of options. Thank you so much everything. It’s a really great place. I recommend it to anyone looking for a truly pleasant spot to spend some quality time. We will definitely go back. 😊😇😉 Oh, I forgot. There's a big parking lot, and it's free. Everyone at the reception and everywhere else was very kind and helpful. Thank you so much. ☺️💯

Room was really run down. Stains on carpets, walls and ceilings. Curtains covered in dead bugs and spiders, which had been there for over a month as were in pictures on other reviews! Mould on ceilings. Did not stay and decided to drive the 3 hours home.
The Lodge was wonderfully charming. It wasn't too far from the main town, the place was wonderful & so we're the people. Also the swimming pool & jacuzzi were spotless! We loved it!
Nothing
Staff. Always friendly and welcoming.
We have been visiting very regularly for over 5 years. We're very disappointed at the changes to service that have been made recently. It seems silly that you can't build up a room tab. Unable to give staff tips. Having to ask for room to be serviced. No plastic cups in bathroom. No bottles of water in bedroom.
We were informed, by email, 10 minutes before we arrived that gas for hot water heating and cooking for the hotel had run out and would not be restored until next day at the earliest. When we arrived we were given the option to cancel and get a refund. I have replied to their email and a week later I have had no response and no refund. I have tried phoning but just get answering service. The staff were lovely but the hotel owners, Belvilla, are impossible to contact. They don’t deserve any business. I’m hoping that this review might encourage them to respond. Please don’t stay here. It’s a shambles. Go and stay at the Bryn Meadows hotel in Blackwood. You can’t compare the two, it has so much better facilities and value for money.
With nothing but cold food, cold shower and a cold swimming pool to look forward to, we left.
No Heating, no hot water, no food - all offered within the info and price of thre room, only told 30 mins before check in by email whilst up a mountain so didnt see it and only found out when actually checking in at 6pm. Yet to recieve a response from anyone or offered any form of reduction in price.

Very nice place pleasant surroundings, ,helpful staff good food and plenty of parking.
Just traffic at night, just depends which room you get I suppose.
Location
The whole place looks tatty and in need of refurbishing, the carpet in our room was stained and dirty, they ran out of gas at breakfast so we had a limited menu choice. I would score this hotel as a 2 star hotel in my opinion. On a side note the staff were really friendly and the location is great.
Breakfast freshly cooked, staff very friendly, lovely evening meal. Nice size room.
Not all items on breakfast menu available. No muffins for eggs benedict. Could do with some compotes like Berry or peach to ho with the Greek yoghurt like you see in many other hotels.
Just down the road from the car park to climb up to Pen y Fan. Plenty of parking and a good air conditioned gym open from 7am. Staff were all very nice and friendly. Pool and jacuzzi looked good. I didn’t use them but could see from the gym window.
It was pretty tired everywhere, charmless bar area and a very sticky floor in the restaurant area - waiting for some reinvestment and modernisation.
Swimming pool and Jacuzzi
I'm not a fan of soft mattress
Shower was in the bath yet there was no shower screen or even any where to mount the shower head so it had to be held whilst showering whilst trying not to flood the bathroom. Bed mattress felt very cheap quality and was so worn out it was no longer flat it was dished!! , I expected better from a hotel like this at this price.
It was just the place to chill after a busy few days . Plus the food was good
It was a little tired & the pool maybe needed a clean
Breakfast was nice, good selection
Our room was run down, window broken so couldn't close it (despite their being a note saying keep closed in summer evenings due to insects) having a window facing the main road that didn't close meant the room was very noisy, had one adult room and one for child, neither tv worked in either room, told staff who said if we cant turn it on they doubt they can and no other rooms to move us to, was unaware spa was included in stay as nothing mentioned at check in or on booking, the worst part was the bath/shower- the first night the taps had no running water, no matter what we tried, the shower was scalding hot, if you twisted it to the cold setting it would eventually twist itself back as we realised when my 12yr old was showering and got burnt.
Food was good, especially breakfast. Evening meals were good, if a little over priced and we couldn’t include the waitresses tip on the bill.
The whole property is tired and needs a lot of maintenance. The mattress of my bed wasn’t great and well past its sell by date. The room was damp, the hand held shower worked but the controls were partly broken. Slightly strange having a window on the bathroom onto a corridor that wasn’t frosted.
Lovely big room with lovely views. Bathroom had a bath which was great. Location was just off of the A road but not too loud and a great location for the Four Waterfalls walk we had planned. Spa was a nice add on and food was great. The staff were all wonderful.
Spa could do with a little TLC. Lots of tiles missing from the hot tub and some in steam room. It was clean though and quiet when we used it in the evening.
Good choice, quick service
Cooked breakfast seemed smaller than previous stays. Orange juice was not pure juice but some sort of juice drink. Had to ask for milk and teaspoons for our tea and coffee as they were not provided.
The grounds and excellent staff
Tables not cleared and when sitting at dining table there were crumbs all over the chair
Location was very pretty and close to an occasion we were attending . There was an excellent shower. The staff were friendly.
The bathroom had no toiletries, only one shower gel. I had to ask for soap. The room was not serviced even though we stayed there two nights. There seemed to be a shortage of towels. The bed was v hard and uncomfortable. The cooked breakfast was nice, but the buffet was poor. Even the *orange juice* was some kind of miwadi!
Nearly everything
Missing towels Wifi without signal
The pool and spa . The food was good
The condition of the rooms and hotel generally needs a lot of decorating. Bathroom was shoddy and nowhere in the shower to hang toiletries. Also toiletries were very sparse as was coffee, tea etc. In my room it was very difficult to plug in the hair dryer as the central heating pipes were so closely situated under the socket. I had my 10 year old Grandson with me for a birthday treat and we were given a room by the entrance to Reception so we couldn't leave a window open as it was on the ground floor and people smoked outside.
The location was excellent given its proximity to the Brecon Beacon national park (i.e. slap bang in the middle). The staff were very pleasant especially so when dealing with our issues with respect to the room and facilities. The breakfast was tasty with a good selection of items. Availability of a pool was a bonus. We genuinely enjoyed our stay because of the staff/location but we would think again about staying given the issues we encountered (see below).
The hotel was very tired and in need of upgrade and redecoration. Our understanding is the hotel has recently been taken over (by Belvilla), hopefully Belvilla will invest as the location is excellent. Examples of issues included: Wood work was dirty; Carpets need replacement; Mould in the bathroom; Need for wall and ceilings to be repainted; Exposed nails in the bathroom wall; Room was very damp; Unpleasant smell in our original room (note the staff moved us quickly and without question); Temperamental water temperature (i.e. freezing to scalding); Smell of cigarette smoke; TV did not work as booster could not generate a strong signal. There was also no room refresh/cleaning/towel change during our stay - our understanding is Belvilla had just asked for this to be suspended. The hotel gave us additional towels when we asked.
ontbijt was zeker ok Vriendelijk personeel
Waar begin ik?? 1. Kamer met dubbel bed en twee eenpersoonsbedden leek een zetelbed te zijn ipv twee enkel bedden 2. Lovely Hotel. Evening Meal Menu is very Nice, highly recommend the Steak. Location nice and peaceful, bit of a drive/taxi to Merthyr Tydfil itself. Perfect Hotel to use to climb Pen Y Fan.
Some parts of the Hotel could do with a spruse up. In particular Jacuzzi in the Spa, Bar Area, the room we stayed in, wear and tear in some areas of the hotel.
It is a wonderful location and quite easy Access from the M4 and Cardiff. Plenty of Parking and convenient to many nearby attractions such as Henrhyd Falls and Pen y Fan. The Gardens are nice and full of Wildlife. The Sauna faciliities and Pool was a nice surprise.
We were disappointed with the room as if looked like a 1980's Merthy refit... Breakfast was average, (instant Coffee and Juice that tastes like Squash). Dinner was ok... Starter was burnt, Main was overpriced and dessert was a little too sweet...
Food was great and nice staff
Our room smelt of mould Bed was a very small double
The location
We could NOT use the swimming pool because there is NO air circulation or air conditioning whatsoever! We struggled to breath in the swimming pool location (and could only stay 3 mins by pool at max, before having breathing problems.) No air con in room in a heat wave. It was difficult to breath, we brought our own fans, plus had a fan from Nant Ddu. The double room was also two single beds pushed together, the beds separated half way through 2 of the nights, there was a 4" gap between the beds!
Not much to like here apart from the location
The hotel was run down, carpets were filthy, food was overcooked, room was tired, I mean not much else to say on this one but worst of all was the Reception Lady not being present for check in. I waited 10 minutes before I got fed up and had to walk into the kitchen past the Bar (which was also unmanned) to see the receptionist in the stuffing her face. No apology either which wasnt the best start!!!
Great location Friendly staff Pool a great bonus
Was served chips that tasted of vinegar, this suggests someones left over chips were re used!
We liked the bed comfy. We liked the staff in spa. The pool, sauna and jacuzzi lovely
Food. Breakfast no mushrooms or juice. No butter but cheap margarine. Croissants stale. Sausages I would say had 10% meat content. Evening meal completely over priced. Veg under cooked and cold. Poor service, friendly enough but so slow. We had to pay for towel and robe to use in spa. For both days. £5 per person. Awful!
Pool and breakfast
За эту цену находили в UK отели гораздо лучше, НО учитывая, что есть бассейн и джакузи, не стал снижать оценку. Ну и классное расположение для пешего трейла на Пен у Фан.

The food was amazing.
The room was noisy at the front, and the shower was not as advertised.
Peaceful location and convenient for nearby hikes
Standard of facilities was poor. The spa was really disappointing, there was a hole in the swimming pool floor which was also not very clean. Jacuzzi didn’t work properly. Our bathroom had black mould. Breakfast was disappointing on the Sunday as they had run out of everything.
Ligging is ok.
Hygiène , personeel weinig professioneel, gebouw vraagt herstel. Routier hotell.
The location was beautiful and the accommodation and facilities themselves have great potential. Food is fantastic!!
The property is very dated and really needs a refresh/general repairs to bring it up to modern standards
Very good.
Beautiful location
Shower head but no shower head wall holder. Cobwebs in every corner of the room with 10+ spiders around the corners. Stale smell in the room.
Location
Tired, no aircon, noisy kitchen ventilation system
Location gardens food comfy bed
No aircon! Spa needs updating jacuzzi was cold and not working properly needs decorating in lots places .no slip mat in shower...very expensive room rate for what you get.
Breakfast was good and friendly staff.

Great peaceful location Very friendly, helpful staff
The location was out of town, in a wooded area just away from the main route to Brecon from Merthyr Tydfil yet very quiet. The spa facilities were clean and free to use along with a decent sized indoor pool. Our room was very spacious with an extremely comfortable super king sized bed. The menu although relatively small was varied well priced, very tasty and freshly cooked. Without exception every member of staff was helpful friendly and happy to help. We stayed on a friends recommendation and didn’t regret staying here at all.
Nothing
Lovely location, staff very friendly and helpful, great food and facilities.
Location to my activity that I booked. Needed a hotel near and this was within 15 minutes
Very dated. Clearly needs a revamp and upgrade
Perfect play for the hotel
There was no air conditioning nor a fan in the room
Lovely staff and a lovely location. Excellent breakfast!
No lift or air conditioning
We stayed for 2 nights. The room was huge. So was the bathroom. Clean and comfortable. However they could use some upgrading. Breakfast buffet and hot breakfast both were good. We got dinner at the bar. It had some delicious dishes. It was good overall.
Breakfast by the open patio doors watching the birds was lovely. The pool and jacuzzi were amazing. The room size was good and was clean. Plenty of parking round the back
Our room looked out onto the flat roof that houses the extractor system. This posed some issues - the noise was very unpleasant though does get turned off at 10ish at night. The hotel is by a river so in summer has a big problem with midges and bugs so the windows cannot be opened but due to the extractor noise you might not want to. However, the bathroom didn't have extraction so the room became very humid after a shower and you cannot vent out that heat. The shower has it's own issues as well! The water pressure is great but the temperature can run from freezing cold to boiling, regardless of what the temperature is set to. The spotlight bulbs flickered but couldn't be turned off independently of the main light.
Evening meal was exceptional, there was a pool wirh towels provided. Beds were clean and comfortable. Grounds were lovely
Hotel very run down and shabby needs a lot of work, mould in the bedroom and bathroom. Rusty fittings in bathroom, stained carpets. In need of a complete renovation. Pool ok, bit dirty with tiles missing. Jacuzzi unsafe to use, broken condition, most of tiles missing and dirty. Room was right next to reception and very noisy. Toilet did not flush properly. No toiletries. Had to ask for hand soap.
Gute Lage
Ausstattung in die Jahre gekommen. Etwas abgewohnt.
Good locations beautiful views
Very loud by the main road which can’t be helped.
The highlight for us, was hands down the restaurant. Breakfast had everything available you could wish for but the dinner was amazing. Best lamb dish I’ve ever had in my life so I had it both nights!! Also such a beautiful location, nothing better than hearing water around you when you step outside. Very peaceful. Wish we were staying longer as didn’t have time to try out the spa facilities!
I think the decor and overall appearance of the rooms could do with a tweak! The bed was comfy to sleep on but the edges of the bed were really hard Small things like the paint chipping away etc
Beautiful location and staff very nice.
Room and bathroom very tired. Bathroom and shower curtain mouldy and very worn, needed replacing. Toilet seat broken and hanging to one side. Breakfast not great. Ok choice of cold buffet, but the eggs received with all four breakfasts overcooked.

Cost of meals and drinks
The food was excellent.
The room was very basic and dated the hotel is in need of improvements.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Nant Ddu is in a great location with Brecon Beacons literally on your doorstep. Restaurant food is good, too.
The place has a very tired feel to it and I had reservations about the overall cleanliness of the rooms. For example, some of the spare bedding was blood-stained and dust and cobwebs were in abundance.
it was just a normal room and settings, dinning very expenceive, having dined in other hotels for far less pool and gym ok, but nothing at the hotel to write home about, thank you
less expenceive.
Staff very good and helpful friendly, very accommodating
The hotel a little bit dated
Beautiful location.
Hotel was everything we needed. A comfy, clean room and a delicious breakfast in the morning.
