Not value for money, I had to ask for basic things like a toile brush, rooms are still looking very old and not within the Southern Sun standards, it was quite disappointing. I called to ask if the restaurant is there they said yes but it only operates on certain hours, and we sat outside and we were helped by 4 different people.

The Toilet kept on running and not flushing After 3 attempts of fixing it , we were moved at 11pm to another room. The noise levels are very high and the windows don’t insulate the noise, we were up from 6am with the constant sound of hooting. The second room bath tub didn’t drain properly and the A/c sound was very rowdy. The rooms are very old.

I was told that my kids couldn't have breakfast in Pajamas....company rules, they said.

The bathroom was small this time. Usually book , normally get the shower and bath separate , was not used to this setup. There was hand prints on the walls , still looked fresh , from oil or something

Staff at Restaurant and the Bar were great and very helpful including the security Porters helped when lifts were being serviced The ladies who cleaned and service the room were great as well. Very polite and mist helpful and understanding as i left late most mornings or I was working in my room.

When I left I called reception twice to get a porter snd the guy was like he didnt even know I called before. Didn't apologize and was like I will check where they are after 20 minutes. So I just carried everything down myself which left a sour note in my stay Maintenance- fix the aircon buttons in room 441. Lighting is poor or maybe use different bulbs.

Staff were super friendly and helpful, location was close to where we needed to be, was comfortable an staff accommodating. Buffet breakfast and dinner was great and great value for money. Overall was a great experience and will definitely return if we need to go to PTA again

One thing for improvement , put enough towels, water and coffee in the rooms to accommodate a family of 2 adults and 3 kids. We only had 2 sets of towels, coffee was not checked and only had decaf sachets for 2 days even asking for regular coffee.

The Property is good but it needs to move from old to new style. More hotels now are better than before but this one still uses old facilities as well as materials. Let them upgrade a bit.

Overall amazing service from the staff, the food was amazing big ups to the guys from the kitchen who gave me salad that was left over from lunch even when it wasn't on the supper menu.Could do better by cleaning checking the plumbing problem on room 147 but I'm very impressed.A high Five to Tshepo ran all over the place from the kitchen to the reception making sure that everyone is well taken care of addresses you in the most polite way. I'm impressed with the Southern Sun Acardia PTA staff. Ps* BO Speelman

It would be a excellent advantage to have a smart TV in the room and for more channels like Disney or Netflix... As the afternoon gets really boring with nothing to stream or watch.

The only problem we had was the room smells like cigarettes And from 5 am in the mornings the taxis outside hoots a lot and can't sleep

The room was larger than average and had sufficient space for luggage. The room itself was clean and neat , the bed and linen was comfortable and clean.

The bathroom is dated , the shower is over the tub and I struggled to fit comfortably both with the narrow tub and the low shower head . The tv was small for its position and distance from the bed .The room itself was extremely noisy from noise from the street, no noise proofing on the windows , even when closed .

The breakfast location were we were taken to was not great because the food was cold and also there was no variety. Next time the hotel management should plan better.

Dear Southern Hotel Management, I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent stay at your hotel. While the property may look appealing, my experience did not reflect the standards of a 4‑star establishment. This is the only hotel I have felt compelled to formally complain about, as others I’ve stayed at recently have exceeded expectations. • Elevator and Room Access: The key card system was extremely frustrating. I was not alone in this—many guests voiced similar complaints. Both the elevator and room door access were unreliable and inconvenient. I strongly urge you to upgrade these systems. • Bar Service: Despite the bar not being busy, service was slow. Ordering drinks, receiving bills, and general attentiveness were lacking. Staff appeared annoyed by our presence, which is unacceptable in hospitality. • Room Service: Another guest had to physically walk down after waiting over 90 minutes for food, as he could not reach the restaurant by phone. This reflects poorly on your room service operations. • Breakfast Experience: The breakfast was mediocre, with nothing distinctive or exciting. More concerning was the rude interaction my daughter experienced when ordering a hot drink—she was told she should have ordered earlier, despite the fact she was still getting her food at the time. Such treatment is unacceptable. Overall, the service and staff attitude were disappointing. I will not be booking at Southern Hotel Pretoria again. It is unfortunate that Protea Hotel Loftus was fully booked, as that was my first choice and has consistently provided excellent service. I hope you take this feedback seriously and implement improvements, as your current standards do not align with the expectations of a 4‑star hotel. Sincerely,

Beds are old and uncomfortable it made me regret coming there because I never slept

It was okay in general. The outside garden is well maintained.

We went to watch a sporting event, which the hotel group sponsors. Yet, there are no shuttle services the hotel offers, apart from being redirected to a third party, the hotel and venue are 3km away from each other. The carpets need a deep clean in the rooms.

No sanitary paper& detergent for toilets/ brushes

The place requires serious refurbishing, the tv is outdated. No coffee machine is also just disappointing in 2026. The lack of lifts from the parking lot doesn’t make sense logistically and there are no bell boys to assist when checking in or out. It’s also ridiculous not to allow guests to use a microwave when there are no microwaves upstairs or in the rooms. Staff seem completely uninterested and weren’t even bothered to organise a 2 pin plug.

Nothing at all and I would not recommend anyone to stay here

long story short: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO STAY HERE here is the long story... We booked 2 rooms with queen beds and when we got there they gave us rooms with twin beds. Then asked to change rooms, the lady helping us was a bit rude but we managed to get 2 new room and they were very dirty Then we changed rooms yet again, much better than the previous 2 rooms. Decided to check out a day before because I couldn't take it anymore!!

Food was amazing, the Hotel itself was beautiful, the staff was friendly and everything was very nice and well kept. The bathroom is a bit small but useable.

The only complaint I do have is the location - sleeping was extremely difficult due to all the traffic, taxi's hooting, motorcycles revving etc - so this was not enjoyable at all.

I was happy to have gotten a clean bed to sleep in for a night but the room was cold and the heater was outdated , no blankets in the room

I arrived and the lady at reception was amazing I think her name was Khabby, then I went to my room , freezing cold everything is outdated the place needs a revamp plus there was no twin plug 😳 then I ordered grilled fish with seasonal vegetables and it took them forever 45 minutes to bring my food which I ended up cancelling my order. The lines are not clear so when you call for room service I had repeat myself several times for her to hear what I was saying.

The property is definitely not a 4 star its in a very bad location paint is coming of the walls. Taxis hooting non stop outside and it feels like a backpackers rather than a hotel I left after being there for 10min and rather went to another hotel

Southern Sun Arcadia in Pretoria! The hotel is stunning, but it’s the people that make it unforgettable. I honestly don’t know how to explain the love and warmth you get from the staff there. Every visit I wonder, How do they treat guests this good I’m beyond grateful - service is world-class every single time. Big shout out to the team. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out. Ohw I miss them already❤️

Front Office staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming and accommodating.

One staff member, Tsakani, in the restaurant who seemed to be a little racist - (1) I greeted her in english and she ignored me, I then greeted her in Sotho and she responded. I said oh you don't understand english. (2) same lady, when I asked for a take away cup for my coffee as I needed to be on my way to the hospital, she said they don't have and that I needed to bring my own. Although I did see her giving another lady a take away coffee in their own mug. The day before a wonderful waiter had given me my coffee in a take away cup (breakfast) The beds and pillows were not that comfortable. Late night noise from people at the pool area.

Rooms are comfortable though a bit dated - needs a refurbishment. The position is excellent for Pretoria CBD. The breakfast had limited vegan options in the main buffet though the chef kindly offered to prepare something for me
