Ribbonwood Country House

Nothing to fault here! What a property and such an eye for detail! Wonderful hosts and the breakfast ( included) is all what you need. The location is stunning and you can see the mountains of there is no rain about. Beds and shower are very comfortable.

Nothing, it was just a great place to stay.

The views were incredible. The decor fun and funky. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast was super yummy and all home made.

Nothing it was all excellent

We really enjoyed our stay at Ribbonwood House. That was our best accommodation on South Islands :)

What can you say about this location....? To make it easier the bad points NONE Location Great View Great house Great host Great Think you get the idea I would urge everybody to visit this house and stay for a few days you will unwind relax and have a great time

Nothing the place is stunning

The property is in a stunning location and impeccably cared for by the owners. The beds are super comfortable. Gardens are stunning. It feels like staying with a favourite Aunt.

Everything!

Nothing!

The most wonderful end to our NZ trip. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better it did. A beautifully appointed room with such thoughtful touches and a bed that you could sleep on for 100 years! The most delicious evening meal - optional but don’t miss and a breakfast that was out of this world! Both containing homegrown and homemade ingredients. Every guest is made to feel like a friend. Please don’t miss this wonderful property.

We had the most AMAZING time. We stayed for one night and decided to come back for a second night because it was so great! Gary and Robert are the nicest hosts ever and the rooms are lovely ❤️ Also the breakfast is really good and the view is breathtaking!!

Ribbonwood is simply perfect

I can’t think of a single thing to put here

The hosts were absolutely lovely, warm and welcoming. The property is well placed near local vineyards and the local attractions. The property is also set on a beautiful block of land with amazing views of the ranges.

Everything. It is obvious that Robert & Gary love what they do and they put 110% into giving their guests the ultimate relaxing experience. Their home is gorgeous, the view spectacular and personally I don't think there is anything more they could do to make your stay any better. We absolutely will be returning.

There is nothing

Ribbonwood was luxury personified! Everything was quality; nothing but the BEST! This was one of the most spectacular holidays we have had. We were warmly greeted by Gary and Robert, two exceptionally talented, kind hosts with wonderful personalities who provided us with epicurean meal delights, beautifully cooked with produce sourced from their own orchard and gardens. Every room at Ribbonwood radiated warmth, sophistication and outstanding decor. The spacious guest rooms were themed according to native flora; everywhere, tasteful artworks enhanced the warmth and sophistication of the relaxing living areas and a cosy fire and spa pool added to the unparalleled amenities. The immediate exterior of this beautifully-presented, hill-top location was a horticulturalist's dream with extensive lawns, orchards and gardens, manicured and maintained to the highest standard. The panoramic 360 degree views were superb and look out over the Leamington Valley towards the Inland Kaikoura Ranges, Mt Parnassus and Waiau Valley. The hosts' sheep and cattle grazed in this idyllic, serene environment.

It was perfect in every respect!

Fabulous location and views! These guys are the perfect b&b hosts - both attentive and entertaining. We had dinner on Friday night which was beautifully cooked and presented and both the cooked and continental breakfasts were lovely. Spacious rooms, huge comfy bed, lovely ensuite and nice little finishing touches. Thanks Gary & Robert!

Nothing to dislike.

The hosts went over and above to make us welcome and help in any way possible. The setting was beautiful and peaceful. The breakfast was exceptional. The beds were extremely comfortable.

It would be helpful to have some basic cooking facilities or plates/cutlery in our room but I realise this is not how a bed and breakfast service usually works. I am also sure the hosts would have provided cutlery or plates if we had asked but it wasn't essential so we didn't. There were facilities to make hot drinks in our room.

Overall we spent 5 nights at Gary & Robert's place both on our way in and out of Christchurch. Honestly, this was probably the best stay I had during all my travels and definitely during our NZ South Island trip. It's not only about the view from the rooms, the tranquility, the hot tub and the two good natured collies Fraser & Cora - this place deserves 5 stars and above because Gary and Robert make such excellent hosts. I miss you already. ❤️

If we could give Ribbonwood more than 10 points, we would. Gary and Robert are warm, welcoming hosts who have carefully considered the needs of their guests and created a very special place to stay. The property, garden and views are all stunning, the rooms are beautiful and so comfortable, and breakfast is terrific. We loved every moment of our stay and very much hope to go back.

We really enjoyed the friendly hosts, and wish we had booked an extra night to enjoy the views.

Beautiful location, amazing views of the landscape. Very warm and hospitable hosts, instantly felt at home. Room has lovely amenities and was very clean. I booked dinner, highly recommend, very tasty! Breakfast was also great. Great experience!

Idyllic location with wonderful views. Gary and Robert are brilliant hosts and we enjoyed our stay in a very comfortable room with a great breakfast.

Fantastic continental breakfast

Beautiful setting, scrumptious breakfast , amazing and helpful hosts. I would highly recommend staying here. It’s the best place we stayed at in New Zealand. The views of the mountains and gardens are spectacular!!

High quality, extremely comfortable beautiful inside and out. Location was peaceful and views were fantastic. Wonderful rooms, great decor and very comfortable, excellent food. Gary and Robert were terrific hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. We were made to feel welcome and enjoyed the whole experience. The garden is amazing and the animals and home grown produce including the pleasure of delicious preserves with freshly cooked bread every day - simply fantastic. Thank you for letting us share in your fantastic home and environment.

Nothing, everything was just great! 5star in every respect so great value for money. Cannot find a single fault. Two nights were not enough!

We liked everything about the property. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly. Very comfortable house and room and a delicious breakfast. The view from the house is stunning.

2nd vist to see Gary and Robert who are amazing, kind , friendly hosts who went above and beyond, our stay perfect. Birthday dinner for my partner was impeccable. Breath taking veiws of the rolling Canterbury hills transforming into a magical star lit night sky. Staying at Ribbonwood is a holiday getaway dream come true .we can not wait to get back and see our friends

We had an amazing stay with Gary and Robert. They are fantastic hosts who did their very best to accommodate us. The views, food, drinks and the room were excellent. One of our fondest memories from our trip to New Zealand.

What a wonderful location for our first evening in New Zealand. The Country House has the most stunning views, and we were very sad that we could only stay for one night. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, and the gardens a blaze of colour, a delightful place to recuperate after our long haul flight from Singapore. Huge praise and thanks to our hosts, Gary and Robert, for the very warm welcome into their comfortable relaxing home and the most delicious breakfast the next morning. A perfect start to our holiday.

Only having 1 night. We would definitely have stayed for longer if our itinerary allowed it.

Fantastic hosts and amazing property! Gary and Robert made us really feel at home and also prepared a sumptuous breakfast! Thank you both for being so thoughtful! The property is incredibly well appointed, has terrific views and is very, very comfortable.

Everything was just right, so cannot comment further on this!

highest quality B&B. On par with “Relais et Chateau” facilities. Robert & Gary - thanks for your tremendous hospitality.

The location was lovely - a well maintained garden surrounded by tranquil rolling green hills with mountains in the distance. Robert and Gary were excellent hosts. They provided me with a room upgrade concerned that I might be woken by people returning home late. The room facilities were excellent and the breakfast provided a range of homemade jams and poached fruits grown on the premises.

Nothing.

Wonderful hosts. A real home from home. Would definitely recommend. Our best stay in NZ

Excellent retreat for us - beautiful scenery, peaceful surroundings, most of all, our amazing hosts Gary & Robert! We had a lovely stay at Ribbonwood Country House and highly recommend it to whoever is looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway.

Stunning property with warm and attentive hosts. Beautiful view from the room, spacious and well maintained in communal and private spaces. Lovely warm atmosphere.

From entering in to leaving, I felt so welcomed and looked after. The hosts are knowledgeable, friendly, and fill of life. Morning breakfast is homemade delicious spreads. There are beautiful sceneries, comfortable rooms, the lounge is comfortable and stunning gardens. There is easy access to Cheviot Town with warm and friendly community. Close to Gore Bay Beach. Quality, Quality, Quality.

Extremely hospitable couple Gary and Robert, and a wonderful view. Super comfortable stay and enjoyed every bit of our time spent at the country house. Love the attention to details for the stay and the thoughtfulness placed in everything provided. Glad we made the decision to stay at this property and have the honour to have met and learnt so much from Gary, Robert and the entire family of animals <3

That we had to leave it all behind…

view excellent

Great breakfast, such a comfortable clean stay. Loved it.

Everything!! Amazing location, property is superb designed and exceptionally clean, very comfortable beds and awesome owners!!! The food is fresh, tasty made in the house and the chef baked yummy croissants. Next visit we must have dinner there as well!

What’s not to like! This fabulous country house is perfect. The rooms are exquisitely appointed, spotless and luxurious. The landscaping is amazing with every view a sensory sensation. As for the view, well it is almost indescribable as it changes like a gorgeous painting every time you look up. Gary and Robert have perfectly situated the house to take advantage of this extraordinary view. In our mind though Gary and Robert are the piece de resistance of the entire experience. Warm, engaging intelligent and with a witty humorous way to turn a phase. We felt so welcome and so much at home in their company.

That it is so far away from Canada

The terrific view - better than we have ever seen in a B&B. The hospitality, food and whole environment was just wonderful.

We only stayed one night!!!! The surprise of snow on the mountains at sunrise had lasted a little longer!

If I could, I would have given it six stars.

It was a wonderful stay! We got a very warm welcome and kind treatment during our stay. It’s more than accommodation but more like home and friends reunion. I was impressed by the beautifully designed house and the owner’s good taste in art. I wish I would revisit again. With my best wishes to Gary and Robert!

Excellent in all aspects

The views from this property are stunning .We loved are stay at Ribbonwood Country House . The rooms are styled beautifully and are luxurious . But it was the hosts that made our stay so enjoyable. Gary and Robert have the knack of being both professional and great fun . Very enjoyable and would highly recommend.

All inside and outside of the facility exceeded our expectations very much. The hospitality was outstanding. The dinner and the breakfast will remain in our memory so that we will come back asap for a longer stay.

We liked all and especially the hospitality of out hosts and the exzellent foot for dinner and breakfast.

A little slice of peaceful countryside in a most beautiful home with stunning views and magnificent hosts - Gary and Robert.

Literally we liked everything!!!!! (We didn't try the dinner though, but I am sure it would have been lovely!!

Lovely breakfast, plenty on offer. Delicious coffee and great conversation.

There is nothing not to like. Thoroughly recommend Ribbonwood

An outstanding B & B. Superb views and service. Enjoyed every minute.

Beautiful views of the Cheviot countryside. Gorgeous gardens and lovely farm animals to walk amongst, even got to bottle feed 3 cheeky lambs! Room was very private, clean and comfortable. Beds were like sleeping on a cloud. Delicious continental breakfast with produce straight off the farm. Delightful hosts Gary and Robert made us feel so welcome and comfortable and we enjoyed chatting about farming and agriculture

Our stay at Robbinwood CH could not have been bettered. Along with the excellent rooms, facilities, cleanliness Robert and Gary are really great hosts. Of course this review would not b complete without mentioning the fantastic views from their property … unfortunately the picture I took below doesn’t do it justice! Honestly what with all the above and the fabulous ambience that Robert and Gary have created around the property with their love of animals and gardening my wife Angela and I can’t wait to stay again …. Truly a magical place!

Incredible property, beautiful garden, super friendly hosts, comfy beds, and awesome breakfast. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Beautiful view and comfy room in this luxurious B&B. Thoughtful touches. But the best thing about it is the hosts. So nice to have a personal touch with friendly and warm hosts on site. A true B&B experience!

A magnificent country home - luxurious and welcoming. We stayed in the kowhai bedroom which was a delight. A little library to relax in & a lounge room . We sat outside in the evening with a glass of wine mesmerised by the view - panoramic hills & paddocks & a pond with native plantings. A beautiful garden surrounds the house - we were kindly shown the large veg garden & we met the adorable puppies!

That we couldn’t stay longer!

Fantastic location and attention to detail made the property stand out and was visually pleasing. The time and effort that Robert & Gary put into the service and food they provide is outstanding.

Surroundings were just so beautiful and peaceful and the hosts were most welcoming. Our room was stylish and comfortable, dinner and wines excellent.

Welcoming, peaceful, comfortable and special

Highly Recommended

This was the most fantastic place to stay. Gary & Robert showed us good old fashioned hospitality in their most incredible accommodation. The attention to detail was second to none. The most amazing view and beautiful gardens. We cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you both so much :-)

what a fantastic property. location great with a stunning view, even better when viewed from the hot tub. Gary and Robert great hosts and literally everything you could think of was catered for. would definitely put this as a return place to stay.

The location was marvellous with amazing views of the mountains. We enjoyed the hot tub after our arrival from Blenheim, Robert was very kind in showing us the stars and seeing the Milky Way later in the evening, a wonderful bonus. Gary was a genial and friendly host. We enjoyed the fresh fruit at breakfast plus the croissants.

Wow wow wow. I don’t have enough words to describe how beautiful this property and its surroundings are. Super comfy. Gorgeous food. The view is to die for. Very modern and clean. Our hosts were just the best. Could not do enough for us. Best B&B on the planet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leaving. wanted to stay for a week. 🥲

We highly recommend staying at this hidden jewel. Amazing property and hosts with everything beautifully done from quality sheets to continental breakfast with delicious homemade jams. The million dollar views from the breakfast table are the cherry on top.

wow, wow & wow. the most stunning views from the rooms, lounge and dining room, and the spar in the garden. Absolutely beautiful rooms with absolutely everything you need. Gary & Robert were fabulous hosts & couldn’t do enough for you. if you like, the dogs will take you for a walk as well.

absolutely nothing to dislike

The house/property, view, room, hosts and being taken for a walk down to the pond by the beautiful border collies.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like

Loved everything, as this was a surprise holiday for my partner. Both Gary and Robert went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect for her . What started as what I thought was going to be a simple night in a bed and breakfast turned into the best holiday my partner and I have ever been on. breathtaking views, 5 star treatment, but by far the best part was making friends with Gary and Robert. Truly the best holiday ever. Thank you guys, and we can't wait to come back and see you two again.

A lovely place to stay with stunning views and really kind hosts. It was the perfect place for a peaceful night to celebrate our anniversary 😊

Ribbonwood is a quiet and peaceful place. I enjoyed watching the stars come out, it was amazing with no light polution of a city.

We Arrived late they were very welcoming. What amazing hosts we had to leave at 6am they got up early and insisted on giving us Beautiful breakfast. Spa was a wonderful end to a very exhausting day. Gardens were stunning. Will be back to relax and enjoy this wonderful stay

We were celebrating a special anniversary, Robert and Gary just made it so much more, they were friendly and courteous but not intrusive, dinner was exceptional, and dessert was to die for. We liked everything about the property - fabulous location and views of rolling green country-side and distant snow-capped mountains; great very friendly hosts; large stylish, emaculate and comfortable rooms; delicious food (cooked by Gary); a guest library, dining room and spacious lounge with a fire and panoramic views; and (of course as a bonus) the border collies, including a joyful bundle of puppies.

Nothing to dislike!

Everything about this place was magical.

Ribbonwood was welcoming and confortable, with most hospitable hosts. Gary's dinner was superb, and it was a treat to be shown the flourishing garden which had produced the delicious vegetables. Very comfortable bed. The only disappointment was the clouds which obscured the views. We may need to go back!

Located a few km west of SH1 Ribbonwood Country House is a well appointed, well thought-out purpose built lodge - offering superb views north to Kaikoura's. The rooms are spacious and well equiped and individually themed around NZ natives. The lounge area is welcoming and comfortable, as are the hosts Robert & Gary who are skilled and passionate to ensure that each stay is perfect and memorable. Thanks again for a wonderful break. P&N
