This hotel was in a great location and was very clean. The parking was a bit tight, they need more room! Staff was very friendly and accomadating.

There were not enough cups and glasses and coffee for four people. Only enough for two. The room was very small as well.

Stayed last year and loved it! This year staff at check in were not friendly or helpful. Checked in on Friday and dirty food trays were still outside ot the rooms when I left on Sunday.

The property was very clean and fresh, right in the heart of Old Towns waterfront. Lots to do and see!

Parking is very tight

Beware of the Mandatory 20% Service Charge — Then an Additional Tip Request I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant billing practice at Hotel Indigo Alexandria. The breakfast menu clearly states that a mandatory 20% service charge is applied to all checks. I specifically confirmed with the restaurant that this 20% service charge is for the server. What I found very troubling was what happened when I received my bill. After automatically adding the 20% service charge, the receipt then presented suggested additional tips of 18%, 20%, 22%, and 25% — as though the 20% service charge had not already been added. Even more concerning, the receipt states that these additional suggested tips are calculated on the entire $35.84 check, which already includes the 20% service charge, tax, and credit-card fee. In my case, a $27 breakfast had a $5.40 mandatory service charge added, and then I was presented with a suggested 20% additional tip of $7.17. That could result in a guest paying approximately 40% or more above the original food subtotal in service charge and additional gratuity alone, particularly if they do not notice that the 20% has already been included. I raised this concern with the front desk and explained how misleading this could be to guests. Their response was essentially that the additional tip is optional and guests can give the server more if they choose. Of course a guest should always be free to leave something extra for exceptional service. My concern is with automatically presenting another set of percentage-based tip suggestions after a mandatory 20% service charge has already been imposed, without prominently telling the guest that the server has already received a service charge and that no additional gratuity is necessary. Hotel Indigo should change this receipt format. At minimum, it should clearly state: “20% service charge already included. Additional gratuity is optional.” Guests deserve complete transparency when it comes to service charges and tipping. I have included photographs of both the menu and my receipt so others can see exactly what I experienced.

When I got to the room, I noticed that the cleaning staff missed the washcloth that was at the back of the shower stall. Other than that, the room was great.

We were extremely surprised on how friendly the staff was our entire stay. Especially Nico! He greeted us with a big smile. Remembered my name the following day. Asked if there was anything he could help us with. Suggested places to eat and sights to see.

We did have issues with the key getting into the room. Each day we had to get a new key because it would work.

The smell and dampness of the room. It is an old building with AC, yet it seemed like the AC was not working properly as our clothes were very damp. Note it was extreme heat outside.

Super soft bedding and pillows and the location was superb!

The bathroom and bedroom were relatively dark. The bedroom had several lamps that each needed to be turned on individually (no master light switch), and the bathroom was surprisingly dark for putting on makeup.

Expensive parking at the hotel

The reception desk staff was excellent, so friendly. There was a "coolong station" in the lobby with sun screen, hand towels, and hand fans. Such a nice extra touch in this unbearably hot weather.

staff in hotel. Front desk woman was sitting in the guest lobby in a guest chair looking at her phone when we got up that morning instead of being behind the front desk. The restaurant waiter forgot our orange juice at breakfast and our room had a weird smell to it....and noticed a fruit fly kind of bug flying in the room.

Location location location! Riverfront with plenty of shops and restaurants to enjoy. Parking garage was a bonus and worth the extra because you don’t need your car.

Location, Location, Location. The hotel is very clean. It was nice to have on-sight and easily accessible parking.

The room was only provided with one towel each. Most hotels provide 2 per person. The room safe did not work which should have been checked BEFORE we checked in. As we only use it on our way out of the room we didn't realize it was inoperable until we were leaving for our reservation, so the hotel's offer to fix it was moot. When we checked in, the front desk personnel did not explain that the key card was needed in the elevator.

We chose this hotel primarily for its convenient location within walking distance of Old Town Alexandria, which we did appreciate. Unfortunately, several issues during our stay made the overall experience disappointing enough that we would most likely not stay here again. First, I specifically booked the hotel’s pet package, which advertised amenities including a toy, treats, and a dog bowl. Upon arrival, none of these items were in the room or otherwise provided. After I asked the front desk, an employee simply brought out a container of Milk-Bones and told me to take as many as I wanted. No toy was ever provided. It felt much less like a thoughtfully prepared pet package and more like an afterthought. To make matters worse, I was also double-charged for the pet fee — once as “Pet Fee” and again under “Sundries.” Second, the soundproofing was extremely poor. A baby in the neighboring room cried throughout the evening and night, and the walls were so thin that it genuinely sounded as though the baby was inside our room. Our room was also located next to the hotel gym, and every morning we were awakened by the loud pounding of footsteps on the treadmill directly against the shared wall. Finally, parking was far more frustrating than expected. The hotel advertises self-parking, but because the garage also accommodates outside visitors for nearby restaurants, self-parking was effectively unavailable during much of our stay and we were forced to valet daily instead. The garage operation itself was very disorganized and slow, with one overwhelmed attendant managing multiple customers at once. We ended up spending far more time dealing with parking than we ever should have at a hotel of this caliber. Overall, while the location was a strong point, the poor soundproofing, disorganized parking situation, and disappointing handling of the pet package significantly outweighed the positives for us.

The location was great. Walking distance to King street and all the food and shops.

The restaurant was just ok. What annoyed me was that my wife and I went for breakfast and they tacked on a 20% tip with saying anything. I had to ask what the charge was for. Also $30 per day parking is steep.

Our room was clean and spacious. Customer service was friendly and helpful.

Lovely hotel and great location. Room was very stylish and clean. Parking is convenient and has an elevator directly to the floors above. The rate is $42 and allows in and out of the garage with no additional fee. There are parking garages nearby and if lucky street parking if you don't want the to pay the high price.

The only objection I have is the Amenity fee charge of $25 which was not explained to me and could have been used towards the a la carte breakfast.

Great location on the Potomac easy access by the GW Parkway to Washington Reagan National Airport.

The only drawback was the elevator to the parking garage was being serviced the day we were there. One of the clerks lugged our luggage up the stairs to the lobby the make up for the elevator being out of service.

I liked the size of the kitchen and the whole series of sitting rooms, dining rooms as it was a great place or families to congregate. I liked my sisters bedroom which had a large sitting room and bathroom in addition to the bedroom. We were a family and friends gathering and it was great that we were all together in closer proximity than we would have been in a larger standard hotel.

It is an old building with some architectural quirks (steep steps, little step ups here and there), which I personally don’t mind having lived in old houses. I find it charming. For those who are use to “new” house living with everything square, they were a little flummoxed.

Im ersten Zimmer schloss die Tür nicht richtig nach verlassen des Raums (ja, die Klinge zur Sicherheit zu drücken lohnt sich!). Wurde aber rasch und unkompliziert gelöst. Im zweiten Zimmer ging die Glühbirne beim Bett nicht, Beleuchtung allgemein wenig und jede Lampe muss händisch aufgedreht werden. Wasserdruck sehr schwach, Fenster kann man nicht öffnen und die Matratzen sind recht weich (aber da hat ja jeder andere Präferenzen)

Housekeeping staff didn’t get to my room until late in the day or sometimes not at all.

Parking was the first thing that disappointed us. Very pricey for no valet with extremely tight parking spaces. There was an attendant, but I couldn’t understand a single word from him. There were many spaces open that were wider and easier to park in but they were blocked off for some unknown reason. The spot I had to take was so tight. I was barely able to get out of the car. Second disappointment was the hotel restaurant. Over priced and not very tasty. I wasn’t very hungry. My wife was hungry. I picked a special off the menu “half off burger night”…… that special was on the menu but was discontinued and I wasn’t told until our check arrived. I wouldn’t have minded if it was good. I couldn’t finish it. My wife had a pasta. She said it was tasteless. She had to ask for pepper and cheese. It didn’t help. She was hungry but couldn’t finish the meal. The Matthews Merlot was excellent. Take the parking and restaurant out our stay and this hotel is a 10/10!

Bestellt war Zimmer mit Blick auf Fluss. Aber, bei der Ankunft war kein so ein Zimmer frei. Nach zwei Tagen wurde aber ein so Zimmer frei. Bekam ein einen Gutschein von $ 50.

Is pet friendly

To echo a lot of reviews here, we loved our stay and the staff was wonderful, but we were surprised by the extra $50 in resort fees on our bill. What resort amenities are we talking about here and why is that not included in the original pricing? We also didn't take advantage of the snack bar because we didn't really understand the credit they were offering and didn't want to be charged for overpriced snacks. Be more transparent, IHG.

It’s a great location. Near the water, shopping and art galleries. The room was on the smaller side but clean. Bathroom was a tad tight. The hotel charges a ridiculous ‘resort fee’ which allows you to get soda and crackers in the lobby concession area. Probably the most brazen and fraudulent add on fee I have ever seen in a hotel. I’ll never stay here again - it’s just insulting.

Location was perfect on the Potomac River!

The restaurant there has poor service. Ate breakfast there one time, even though that meal was included for in my rate for two days. Server forgot 2 things. I was asked by 4 people if I had everything. Staff was hanging out in front laughing & talking out loud the entire time I ate, which was quite disruptive. It was a bit of a chaotic experience!

It was close to everything

I was supposed to have river view did not fit that. The hotel being as high priceed as it was though it would have hot tub did not.it did not have washer and dryer so when we went to water Park we could not dry our wet clothes. Never got my 200 deposit back rather and we even clean the room and took trash out so house keeper would not have to.

Secret fees. $42 per night parking fee. $25 per night amenities fee. The parking deck was so tiny. Also, you’re unable to park there at times.

The resort fee plus the gargare at USD50 per night is a rip off. overall not brilliant value for money but at same time a good hotel in a great location

Teures Parking (42 USD pro Nacht), was aber ortsüblich ist.

I stayed here as an IHG Diamond Elite and Ambassador member, and the service quality was disappointing. Even a simple 30-minute late checkout (11:30am) was refused, despite staff seeing me starting breakfast around 10:30 due to jet lag. For a non-resort property, the rigidity was surprising. A straightforward billing correction took three days, several phone calls, and multiple emails. Breakfast should have been complimentary, and the market purchase should have been offset by the amenity credit, but no one seemed able to resolve this in a timely way. IHG hotels are usually much more flexible and professional with elite members, but this property felt understaffed and unresponsive. Excellent location, but I would not choose this hotel again.
