Nothing except we swept up quite a number of midges - but understand this happens and maybe the property was aired before we arrived allowing insects in .

Huis rook wel erg naar de open haard. Hoofdkussens waren oud en niet schoon. Wel de hoes die er omheen zat.

Great old home, lots of South African charm

I arrived very late, starving to my surprise the town restaurants were closed but the host dashed into action with a simple toast and avocado plus fruit... just the care made my stay worth choosing them for the overnight the breakfast was very tasty too. It's great to find simple care and humanity in a place, worth every cent to stay over in Swellendam and start the day fresh again.

Deze prachtige accommodatie was uit het verleden bekend. Ook nu weer hebben genoten we een grote gastvrijheid. Het is een terug keer waard.

Spacious room with comfortable bed. We slept well. The lady that did breakfast was knowledgeable about my dietary requirements and provided a tasty gluten free breakfast and understood about the need to reduce cross contamination.

I was a bit concerned when I arrived that having previously communicated with the owner about my dietary requirements, she was unaware of having agreed that she could provide a gluten free breakfast.

Vraiment super. 3 chambres confortables, un espace très sympa avec vue sur les terrasses. Et un petit déjeuner fait maison avec toutes les options possibles.

Antone was a wonderful host, even ensuring a special birthday surprise for our daughter. We stayed in the cottage which was extremely spacious with three bedrooms and en suite bathrooms. Whilst we didn’t self cater, the property looked to be fully stocked. Unfortunately the weather meant we didn’t have the opportunity to use the pool, but it looked very appealing. Breakfast was plentiful and made to order.

The property was ideal for our two night stay in Swellendam. With the benefit of hindsight two nights in Swellendam was too long for us and one night on the way through to the Garden Route would have been suffice.

Wir haben den Aufenthalt in De Oude Pastorie sehr genossen. Das sehr schöne ehemalige Pfarrhaus im kolonialen Stil liegt nahe am Stadtkern (15 Minuten zu Fuß). Es ist von einem parkähnlichen sehr gepflegten Garten umgeben. Der Poolbereich ist sehr schön gestaltet! Das Zimmer, das wir im Haupthaus hatten war sehr geräumig und schön gestaltet. Der Service in dieser Unterkunft war außergewöhnlich gut! Das Frühstück war sehr reichhaltig, lecker und konnte individuelle gestaltet werden. Unsre Gastgeberin gab uns sehr gute Tipps für Ausflüge und Aktivitäten sowie Restaurantempfehlungen. Ein wirklich sehr gutes Restaurant war nur weniger 100 Meter von de Oude Pastorie entfernt. Auch der Supermarkt Pick and Pay war auch nur einige 100 Meter entfernt. Wir können die Unterkunft nur wärmstens empfehlen. Im Übrigen ist Swellendam eine Reise Wert!

Mit Ausnahme der steilen und schmalen Treppe die ins Obergeschoss führt, wo die beiden tollen Zimmer liegen, nichts. Der Sohn des Hauses war uns beim Tragen der Koffer aber behilflich.

A very beautiful colonial-style complex with very friendly hosts. The guest house is wonderfully furnished and offers plenty of space - even for far more than three people.

Das alte Pfarrhaus ist ein Bijou. Grosse Zimmer, schöne alte Möbel. Tolles Frühstück! Die herzliche Gastgeberin hat uns für den Abend ein Restaurant reserviert. Es war eines der besten Essen auf unserer Reise durch Südafrika. Das Haus kann ich nur empfehlen.

Dass man am Abend nicht zu Fuss z.B. zum Restaurant gehen kann. Unsicher. Aber das ist ja normal in Südafrika.

Fredfyldte omgivelser hvor man følte sig rigtig hjemme. Hyggeligt gammelt hus med en masse atmosfære og utroligt søde og hjælpsomme værter.

Beautiful old house, full of character, Room was very large with the largest bathroom! Large balcony. Great facilities in room and lovely pool. Very tasty freshly cooked breakfast and Johan was an amazing host , nothing was too much trouble ! Even found us a couple of cold beers after our long drive. Lovely Osterich restaurant down the road.

Nothing really , some may find the wood panelling too much , I thought it added to the charm of the age of the property.

A beautiful guesthouse, breathing history, with a very kind and helpful host Antoneia. The rooms in the guesthouse are huge, plenty of space, full option bathroom, everything is perfect. The terrace by the room is very big and has comfy lounge chairs to sit in. You can choose (long list !) what you want to have for breakfast. Top quality. Nice pool. Restaurants within walking distance, Swellendam is absolutely worth a stop when you travel in the Western Cape. Do not hesitate to book the Oude Pastorie….

Friendly owners, beautiful period property

Lovely private hotel in the old, historical building. Great atmosphere and very supportive local staff. Owners of the place are amazing!

The draught in the area in January 2026. Using the pool and water was limited.

De kamer is ruim.

Het is oud, muf, piept en kraakt. Je moet er van houden. We zouden 2 nachten blijven, maar zowel de Pastorie als Swellendam kon ons niet bekoren. Na 1 nacht met gierende gympen vertrokken.

Prachtig chalet met veel ruimte binnen en een heerlijke buitenruimte. Veel zitjes rondom het huis. Heerlijk ontbijt.

The Cottage was comfortable, well equipped with lots of outdoor space. Johann, Eloné and her team were most hospitable and welcoming. Breakfasts were good.

Wat ons het meest beviel aan De Oude Pastorie in Oudtshoorn is de bijzondere sfeer en warme gastvrijheid. De accommodatie is prachtig gelegen en heeft een sfeervolle veranda waar je heerlijk kunt ontspannen. Ook het zwembad is een groot pluspunt, vooral na een lange dag rijden — een fijne plek om even af te koelen en tot rust te komen. De Oude Pastorie is een ideale tussenstop op de Garden Route en voelt direct als een plek waar alles klopt. De gastvrouw en eigenaresse is ongelooflijk vriendelijk en vrolijk, en doet er alles aan om het je naar de zin te maken. Haar gastvrijheid maakt het verblijf extra speciaal. Het ontbijt is heerlijk en goed verzorgd en gedurende het hele verblijf ontbrak het ons aan niets. Een charmante, comfortabele accommodatie waar je je meteen welkom voelt en die we zonder twijfel aan anderen zouden aanraden.

This beautiful guest house was absolutely outstanding. The owners and staff were so accommodating, friendly and welcoming. The house and gardens itself were stunning. Our rooms were incredible, so comfortable, beautiful and really thoughtfully decorated and furnished. Breakfast was delicious. Bonus were the little furry friends too! Would highly recommend and definitely would return!

Die Gastgeber sind hilfsbereit und nett, geben top Empfehlungen für den Restaurant-Besuch, auch in Fussdistanz. Das Frühstück ist sehr lecker und jeder Wunsch wird erfüllt. Das Guesthouse ist alt, grosszügig und an einer guten Lage. Die Sicherheit stimmt.

Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Zimmer sind urig, passend zum alten Pfarrhaus. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker und reichhaltig. Insgesamt ein sehr schöner und gelungener Aufenthalt. P.S. wir waren sogar 3 Nächte hier und es wurde uns in und rund um Swellendam nicht langweilig

Sehr schönes saniertes Pfarrhaus. Mit viel Liebe im alten Stil neu hergerichtet in einer bezaubernden Gartenanlage mit größerem Pool.l Äußerst freundliche und zuvorkommende Gastgeber. Hervorragendes Frühstück.

Die Betten waren zu kurz und zu schmal. Wie früher eben... Es war leider keine Verdunkelung an den schrägen Fenstern zur Straße.

Wir haben für zwei Nächte mit vier Personen das Cottage gemietet. Das Haus und das ganze Anwesen ist wunderschön und mit viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet. Auch der Garten mit Pool ist toll bepflanzt und man fühlt sich sofort wohl. Ein besonderes Highlight für uns waren die Dackel :) die Gastgeber sind sehr sympathisch und das Frühstück, das wir extra dazugebucht hatten, war sehr lecker und vielfältig und wurde für jeden individuell auf Wunsch zubereitet. Ein großer Supermarkt ist gleich nebenan. Wir wären gern noch länger geblieben!

We cannot praise the De Oude Pastorie too highly. Johannes was a great communicator, and also recommended us booking a local restaurant in advance. He booked us a table at the nearby Chantelle’s Bistro, where we had a memorable meal. We had very large and comfortable room in the main house. It had an en-suite that had both a comfortable bath and spacious shower cubicle. There were, in addition, in one room, comfortable lounge chairs, a small settee and a writing desk. One felt you were a guest in a grand house. Johannes’ eldest son took our heavy suitcases both from our car to the room and when we left. We enjoyed a superb breakfast next morning, cooked by Eunice, on a well laid out table, fit for a King. Johannes is a very interesting man who enjoys meeting visitors passing through the country town of Swellandam. Try to visit the Drostdy museum complex at the eastern end of town, which gives a comprehensive understanding of how the Cape developed from the times of the Dutch East India Company to the First World War. In the centre of town, the dazzling large white Kerk should not be missed, you can view the interior where pews in a semicircular setting can seat over 1400 worshippers. We hope to return one day to see more of the Overbergs and look forward to staying again at this lovely home stay.

Das Zimmer im Haupthaus können wir leider nicht empfehlen. Sehr hellhörig. Um 7 Uhr frühs zieht leider der Geruch aus der Küche von unten in das Zimmer hoch. Kaffeegeruch ist ja noch angenehm, aber gebratene Zwiebeln müssen nicht unbedingt so früh sein. Zimmer lässt sich leider nicht ganz abdunklen. So ist man sehr früh wach. Auch die Lage direkt an der Hauptstraße ist nicht optimal.

Very spacious, comfortable rooms set in large, parkland like grounds with manicured gardens. Friendly hosts showing genuine care, offering complimentary drinks upon arrival and personalized recommendations of local attractions. Breakfast was a treat concluding an overall very pleasant stay.

We had the huge cottage in the grounds, could accommodate at least 6 people, very well equipped kitchen with masses of everything you could imagine, even several pack of coffee. Loved the fire, they had fire lighters and wood all ready, excellent. There was a BBQ outside as well. Breakfast in the main house was very good indeed and the lady was loverly. The swimming pool looked very inviting but the weather was just too cold on our stay. Antoné the owner was very helpful with very good comms'.

Riesiges gemütliches Zimmer im Obergeschoss (Pastorie Suite). Schon vor der Anreise hat uns die Gastgeberin kontaktiert mit allen Infos und uns für den Abend ein Restaurant reserviert. Toller Service :-) Frühstück sehr lecker und frisch zubereitet. Wir haben viele Tips für die Weiterfahrt erhalten. Leider waren wir nur eine Nacht hier, es gäbe in der Umgebung noch vieles zu sehen und zu geniessen.

Exceptional all round experience. Attentive & friendly hosts who go the extra mile . The accommodation itself cannot be faulted ... It way exceeded our expectations with significant attention to deal given . This is 10/10.
