Fort Edge Retreat

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Fort Edge Retreat. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, the room was very clean, peaceful, and comfortable, and the balcony view was simply beautiful and relaxing. The breakfast also had a great variety of options, and everything was delicious. Most importantly, privacy was 100% guaranteed, making it a perfect and comfortable getaway for couples. One of my favourite things was hearing the peacocks calling around the garden, which reminded me of my home village and made the experience even more special. Definitely one of the most relaxing holidays I’ve spent. Highly recommended, and I would love to visit again! 🦚🌿❤️

Super schöne Hotelanlage! Manager und sonstiges Personal super nett, wir haben uns gleich wohl gefühlt! Haben ohne Kommentar ein schöneres Zimmer bekommen, da wir die einzigen Gäste waren! Frühstück war das beste unserer ganzen Reise! Wir waren 4 Nächte dort und haben jeden Tag etwas anderes zum Frühstücken bekommen. Avocado-Brot, Frenchtoast, Curry mit Rotti oder auch Sri Lankanischen Milchreis. Man hat wirklich gemerkt, dass der Koch Spaß an seinem Beruf hat! Auch einmal Abends haben wir vor Ort gegessen und war auch super lecker!

Lage ist etwas abseits, was aber tatsächlich kein Problem war. Statt in der lauten Stadt ist man hier in ruhiger Lage etwas weiter draußen. Mit TukTuk ist man aber auch in paar Minuten in der Stadt oder am Strand. Kleiner Tipp: Wenn ihr wie wir in der Low Season dort seid, sagt schon Mittags Bescheid was ihr Abends Essen wollt, dann kann sich der Koch darauf vorbereiten. Soll keine Kritik sein! Uns ist vollkommen klar dass ein solches Restaurant mit kaum Hotel-Gästen nicht täglich Gemüse etc. vorbereitet haben kann und sich somit die Wartezeit auf das Essen etwas verzögert.

Exceptional Stay with Excellent Service We stayed at Fort Edge Retreat for 2 nights from 28th to 30th August, and overall we had a wonderful experience. Everything was well maintained, the room facilities were very good, and the peaceful natural surroundings created a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. The highlight of our stay was the excellent service. A special thanks to Manager Chandana, who provided outstanding service throughout our stay. He was very friendly, attentive, and always made sure everything was taken care of properly. His dedication and personal attention really made our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. The room had great facilities and a lovely view. The only minor issues were that the TV was not working and the hot-water pressure could have been better. Apart from these small points, everything else was excellent. Overall, highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful and comfortable place to stay in Unawatuna. We would definitely love to come back again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

All the essential facilities were available. So, we were well satisfied with the amenities relative to the price. The location is perfect for visiting nearby attractions. The hotel has a Child-Friendly swimming pool, and the whole premises have a very pleasant environment. The whole staff was very friendly during our stay. We received a warm welcome and a pleasant goodbye from Mr. Chandana and the receptionist lady. Especially, Mr. Chandana was very helpful during the whole period from the preparation for check-in until check-out.

We werden vriendelijk ontvangen met een gezellig praatje en een welkomstdrankje. Onze bagage werd netjes voor ons naar boven gebracht, wat erg prettig was. De kamer was erg groot en had een eigen terras. Alles zag er schoon en netjes uit. Het zwembad met de ligbedjes was ook prima en een fijne plek om even te ontspannen. Ook de parkeerwacht/bewaker was altijd vriendelijk. Net zoals de manager, die kwam na onze dagttrip of ontbijt altijd even kort een praatje maken. Het ontbijt was voldoende en prima verzorgd. Zoals wij vaak tijdens onze vakantie kregen, toast, jam, fruit. En eventueel aanvulling met iets. De accommodatie ligt net buiten het centrum, met onze eigen tuktuk was dit geen enkel probleem.

We hebben ook gebruikgemaakt van de wasservice via het hotel. Dit viel helaas wat tegen: de kleding kwam nog wat vies en vochtig terug en was bovendien niet opgevouwen. We hebben dit bij het hotel gemeld en hopen dat zij dit met het externe bedrijf kunnen oppakken.

Het is een verborgen parel. Het ligt erg mooi en ziet er prachtig uit!! De medewerkers zijn ongelofelijk aardig en gastvrij en voor de lieve manager is niets te veel. Het eten smaakte verrukkelijk, de kamer was geweldig, alles klopte. We hebben enorm genoten, dank jullie wel voor de fantastische tijd.

Breakfast was good. Though location was a little bit far away from beach/city; the environment was meet our expectations.

Très bel hôtel, personnel très à l'écoute et très serviable, petit coup de cœur pour Buddika qui se donne vraiment à fond pour vous faire passer de bons moments et pour vous contenter !!! Merci on s'est vraiment régaler....le cadre est très agréable, les chambres spacieuses et agréables aussi, clim, bouilloire, sèche cheveux, belle piscine avec serviettes fournies, bon petit déjeuner qui change tous les jours, sous forme de buffet, bref super séjour...allez y les yeux fermés vous ne le regretterez pas !!!

Rien, la seule chose c'est que c'est un peu loin du centre ville à pied.. mais pour nous pas de soucis nous avons loué un scooter directement à l'hôtel....le centre et la plage est à 10 mn ...donc c'était très bien !!!

Отдыхали в этом отеле 9 дней. Отель очень понравился! Полнейший релакс и умиротворение. Находиться в очень красивом месте, вокруг рисовые поля, где разгуливали павлины в свободной природе. Персонал очень дружелюбный и клиентоориентированный. Нам нужно было в один из дней устроить вечер с барбекю, мы купили сами морепродукты, рыбу, курицу. Сотрудники нам все отлично приготовили за дополнительную небольшую плату. В отеле есть площадка для йоги, где мы по утрам занимались, получили полнейший релакс. Номера тоже очень чистые и современные. Есть на территории бассейне с шезлонгами и кафе с приемлемыми ценами. Немного отель находиться вдалеке от цивилизации, но мы так и хотели. В целом с уверенностью могу рекомендовать отель! Нам все очень понравилось, обязательно вернемся еще!

Upstairs bar not used, why? It was all dirty and had it been clean it would of been anice area to sit away from people eating. Breakfast soft drinks changed daily but containers that they were poured into and little taps never cleaned. So many flys on food thats out for breakfast. Place is a bit run down bit it could be something amazing. Manager spent one night til 1am drinking a bottle of whisky with a couple!! Not very professional. So many staff I honestly think clean up the act and it could be a gold mine.

je tiens surtout à souligner que le personnel est absolument incroyable. Vraiment. Ils nous ont marqués par leur gentillesse, leur disponibilité et leur professionnalisme. Un accueil chaleureux comme on en voit rarement. C’est clairement le point fort de cet hôtel. En revanche, elle n’est pas insonorisée, on entend pas mal les bruits, ce qui peut être dérangeant. Le petit-déjeuner n’était pas vraiment à la hauteur de l’hôtel, nous l’avons trouvé assez simple.

Lieu très joli, manque de professionnalisme, la piscine était pleine de feuille à notre arrivé avec un groupe.

Personnel pas à la hauteur du lieu, une Clim défectueuse dans l’une des chambre, pression d’eau absente, douche froide, et wifi hasardeux.

We left the sign on our door to get our room made up and it wasn’t! Dirty crockery left out all day, The main member of staff in the restaurant was extremely helpful and courteous,

the restaurant staff member Udayanga was absolutely incredible. He works extremely hard, is attentive, and genuinely cares about providing good service. Unfortunately, his efforts are clearly undermined by the poor performance and management of other staff members.

Considering the price of £65 per night, this hotel was disappointing overall. On our final night, we were left waiting at reception for over an hour while the owner went to get gin, despite being told it would take only 10 minutes. When I later asked if the gin had arrived, the reception staff were passive-aggressive, which only added to the frustration. This lack of communication and professionalism was unacceptable. Housekeeping was also inconsistent. Our beds were not made every morning, even though we clearly displayed the “make me” sign on the door handle.

Очень добрые люди. Особенно запомнился менеджер отеля, который нас встретил, шеф-повар и очень милый охранник(ему отдельный привет от русских гостей, уж очень он нам понравился). Расположение подальше от всего, но нам это было и надо. Мы успели понаблюдать за жизнью обезьян, белок и множество птиц).Большой теплый бассейн и вкусная кухня в ресторане( так же отдельно спасибо шеф-повару).

Мы почти не находились в номере, поэтому уборка нас не особо беспокоила, но хотелось бы по чище номер, после того как в белых носках прошлись, мы их выкинули, они были черными(даже не представляете насколько). Напор горячей воды в ванной был такой, что можно было голову мыть час.

Klimatyczny hotelik z dala od miasta. Kilka minut tuktukiem i na plaży. Malownicze widoki i odgłosy natury. Przesympatyczna obsługa. Dobry stosunek jakości do ceny, blisko plaża z żółwiami. Polecam.

Czasami brak cieplej wody, ale to nie problem!

We stayed in the family svit and got a beautiful big room with 2,40cm wide bed +2 singel beds, sofas and balcony overlooking the pool. Really liked the location with a more jungle vibe and ricefields around the hotel.

Some of the personnel didn't speak english that well, but we made it work.

Местопребывание в джунглях 🌴 невозможно описать наши эмоции словами ❤ восхитительный отель, с чистыми номерами и частными вилами, вид из окон которых открывается на рисовые поля и непролазные тропические леса❤ вкусные завтраки, когда солнце уже стоит высоко под пение птиц и крики синих павлинов, которые, как по заказу прилетают покрасоваться на утренние трапезы❤на территории обитают вараны, пальмовые белки, обезьяны, мангусты. Нам удалось их не только увидеть , но и понаблюдать за их жизнью. Персонал очень гостеприимный, отзывчивый, во всем помогали, обходительный весь персонал. Чистый бассейн с утра прохладный но к обеду прогревался, как надо что бы освежиться. До пляжа ехать на тук тук минут 15. Восхитительное место - желаем каждому побывать здесь

Расположение. Находится далековато от главной улицы, но на тук-туке можно за 7-10 минут добраться до основного пляжа. Красивая территория, пальмы, фонтаны, павлины..большой бассейн. На этом пожалуй все.

Мы бронировали апартаменты, но при заселении было много свободных номеров и нам предложили на выбор остаться в этом номере или с доплатой выбрать отдельную виллу с бассейном, на что мы согласились. Там также была кухня, для нас было важно ее наличии, так как готовим самостоятельно. Но оказалось что баллон газовый пуст и если мы хотим, то можем купить газ) и нам заменят баллон. Расчет на то чтобы мы питались в ресторане этого отеля. (цены на еду приемлемые). Очень много пыли как в номере так и снаружи (зона кухни, бассейна). За 4 дня нашего пребывая ни разу даже не подмели при входе, хотя там было явно много листьев и требовалась уборка, о чем я попросил персонал. Но просьбу проигнорировали. Держатель туалетной бумаги отвалился в первый же день. Завтраки однотипные, ждать их ооочень долго. Было не уютно и поскорее хотелось переехать на следующей жилье.

Very nice property in a peaceful location little away from the hustle of Gale. It's an old property but well designed in terms of aesthetics and charm. You can relax with peace here, completely surrounded by green gardens and palm trees. The contemporary style architecture (resembles a fort) is charming. They had separate dining and bar setup, overlooking the pool. We had the best breakfast of our trip here. The staff are friendly and accommodating.

Some of the facilities in the room and property need maintenance and renovation. You have to go with protection against mosquitoes.

Location, cleanliness, value for money. Amazing food and friendly staff.

Although the property is slightly away from the city center, it’s easily accessible and offers a peaceful environment—perfect for a relaxing getaway. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel welcome throughout my stay. One of the highlights was the beautifully designed common area. It’s a lovely spot to enjoy meals, especially in the morning when the view is serene and refreshing.

I had rented a tuk tuk which had an oil leak, the staff went out of their way on a public holiday to locate and escort me to a garage where this could be repaired, whilst negotiating a price and ensuring this was a fair price. They made what could have been been a stressful experience very easy and it was appreciated.

We loved our stay at Fort Edge! It was a little bit out of the main town, but this is why we booked here!We rented a scooter and had the absolute best time. The staff, facilities, food and everything else was absolutely amazing. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel welcome and for making our stay unforgettable.

To leave after the stay

The „Manager“ who told us to cancel the booking after we told him that there is a moldy smell and literal mold in the room. Also dirty bed sheets and refilled water bottles with dirt all over the bottle. At the breakfast he talked shit about us because we complained about the room with mold everywhere. Oh and the breakfast looked like leftovers from the day before and toast with butter and one kind of jam. This was a horrible experience, just dont go there if you want a nice stay.

The staff helpful and kind, the rooms are clean and comfy beds. The restaurant also good one! It is far away from hustle&bustle but everything nearby. Thank you for the great hospitality!

One thing: change the overused beach towels, and you'll be the best! ;)

A lovely place, with a nice pool, a good Sri Lankan breakfast, and very friendly and helpful staff. The beautiful garden was frequently visited by rare purple-faced langurs, as well as colourful birds and monitor lizards. Would definitely stay there again.

Tuk tuk drivers occasionally found it difficult to find, but this was not a major problem.

It was a great 5 day stay, the staff, like all throughout SL were friendly and attentive. The accommodation was comfortable and clean and a lovely clean pool. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. The staff were great fun and a great team!

Sometimes it was hard to get a tuk/uber to come, however when the driver is called and the staff assists by speaking in the local language they always manage to find it.
