Do a google search of worst hotel in Rapa Nui and Kaimana Inn is the answer.
We very much enjoyed having Marcelo as our guide on Rapa Nui. We were on the island for three days, with one day of heavy rains, but Marcelo solved this by planning all the excursions on the two days without rain. Communication with Marcelo was very fluent. He is an intelligent guide, a good story teller and a very helpful and friendly man. We highly recommend him!
Wow, where do I start? When I booked this place, I figured I would have to arrange a taxi to get there and then find guides to see the island attractions. I was wrong. As soon as I booked, Marcelo contacted me for my arrival time and was there to meet us at the airport. He is also a registered guide and we did our tours with him, talk about convenient. The cabana he put us in was well equipped and conveniently located in a quiet area of Hanga Roa. Weather dealt us a blow one day, but Marcelo was able to make up for a lost day by combining the tours we wanted in the remaining days we had. He was always checking on us to see if we needed anything.

The property as pictured and described does not exist. No restaurant and not where is said to be.
I would avoid this place, it reeks of cat piss - run down and clearly in need of a signifcant decontamination The pics are old and don’t tell the true story. The bathroom was mold infested I stayed a few mins then went to another - disappointing and downright nasty
As are many of the businesses in Rapa Nui this is a family owned and run business. It is a great value in a home like atmosphere. It included a great breakfast. Being very well located in the village I walked to everything. Marcello had great recommendations for everything and does tours for his guests. Taking tours in very small groups or by yourself gave you a personal experience and it was flexible. Some days the weather was rainy so we went the next day when the weather was sunny. I stayed 5 nights and really enjoyed it
Great place to live! The owner is very nice! I will recommend to my friends for sure!
Filthy, a real dump. Unlike as advertised, there was no restaurant to speak of. On the first day there was no hot water. I had to ask them to actually clean the room, which was very dirty. The "breakfast" consisted of instant coffee and some scrambled eggs and a few slices of cold cuts. It feels like a private home run by a bunch of kids (who have toddlers themselves) where the guests are an afterthought.
Great place. Close to everything in Hanga Roa. Nice breakfast. The host picked us up from and to the airport on arrival and when we left. They were very friendly and helpful. Overall very nice experience.
This property has to have its photos updated. The place looks nothing like its advertised photos. Shocking when you first get there. There is no restaurant and it looks like it's been that way for years. The room is like a camp cabin with no air con or even a fan. If you want to open the windows, the screens have holes so the mosquitos get in. If you call, Marcello answers (from Santiago) and is very nice but his daughter(s) who are on site, don't seem to care at all about the place or the customers. Really a weird situation! I couldn't even stay past a few hours and moved to another hotel even knowing that I would have to pay for my entire stay.
I had booked 4 nights here. As soon as I arrived from the airport I knew I misjudged this place. The pictures do not truly represent the property. The pictures must be years old. Perhaps, pre COVID as this place was a crap hole. This place is not a Hotel or an Inn as either of those would imply staff. No staff in existence. 2 hours after I arrived I found a more suitable property to stay at. I stayed one night and forfeited the other 3 nights and yes, Be advised. BP
The hotel was probably a lovely hotel at one time. Unfortunately, it looks like the owner has not spent any money on maintenance because many things don’t work. The bathroom door could not close. The room door lock needs repair. The shower plumbing was loose. The air conditioning didn’t work. The room fan didn’t work. The nice family that lives there did their best to provide service, but it seems like the maintenance is off their hands. It is absolutely sad to see this quaint hotel with so much potential fall in disrepair!
Great stay. Very convenient location. The hotel picked up and dropped off at the airport and organized all the guided tours!

Lovely hotel, incredible breakfast and fantastic hosts.
The Kaimana Inn makes for a very nice stay. The property is clean and within walking distance to restaurants and shopping in Hanga Roa. The staff are friendly and helpful!
Kaimana Inn is a family run hotel in the heart of Hanga Roa. The owner’s daughter, Jilleri (hope I spelled it right) was in charge during my stay. She prepared delicious breakfasts each morning and arranged my 3 tours of the island. My tour guide, Giovanni, did an excellent job explaining the history of the island and he speaks English very well. Our driver, Alexis, got us safely to all the sites. If you are expecting a fancy hotel, then this is not the place for you; however, if you want a taste of local life, then this is the place to stay. Dogs barking, roosters crowing, music at night, dirt roads, all a part of beautiful Rapa Nui. For me, it was a dream come true.
The 1st thing you need to consider is that unless you stay at a very large actual "hotel" in Hanga Roa, your accommodation will probably be very basic and lean more towards a B&B without tradisional hotel amenities. This was the case with our 7 night stay at the Kaimana Inn. It's actually 6 rooms behind the owners house with a common seating/ eating area. There is no attached restaurant. The good: Centrally located off the main street in town Close to restaurants, food stores and shopping Excellent included breakfast offered at 9:00AM Good wi- fi Daily " freshen up" housekeeping We used Marcelo as our tour guide and he did a very good job. Note that you cannot tour the park areas without a certified guide. Not so good: The central gathering place and rooms are starting to show their age The room furnishings were outdated Since it’s located off an alley it’s right against other houses and sleeping was often disturbed by very loud dogs. I would have rated it as 3.5 if allowed.
Good: Breakfast Location Not so good Noise Propert starting to look run down
Marcelo is the only one who wears with an open heart. He took me to different places in the island in his cool car. An open and communicative person, happy and friendly and always helps as much as he can! I'll never forget Marcelo buying me a cake and a candle for my birthday and taking me to a nice scenic spot with a Moai statue and taking a picture of me. Marcelo is a great guide for you tourists and adventurers, he will bring you more joy and a warm sense of humor and friendly disposition. And it comes with amazing fun photo ideas. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Marcelo! Be and stay as you are!
Marcelo from Kaimana Inn was a fantastic host - meeting me at the airport, farewelling me at the end and showing me around his island. If you are coming to Easter Island, make sure you book the accom and the tours - Marcelo will look after you and make it a memorable experience.
Had a great time they welcomed me with open arms. Marcelo and his family Show nothing but love they even give you tours of the town and around the island. They even have a restaurant down the street from the inn I love the fact that you can actually get toured around by the owner of the hotel.
This is not a hotel. It’s your friend’s house who invited you over to spend some time in the most remote part of the world. That’s how welcome and pleasant I felt here. Marcelo and his family run this establishment. He’s a one stop shop for everything Rapa Nui. Marcelo welcomed me at the airport with a gorgeous lea. The hotel is off main street in a private alleyway. It’s simple, but offers and authentic experience. Marcelo’s family lives up front and the back has a nice patio, kitchen area and several rooms. I was solo, but my room had three beds. So I had plenty of space. I was welcomed with a yummy smoothy, and after that Marcelo just took care of everything for me, from giving me different tours, arranging a glass-bottom boat ride, booking a 4-wheeler for me to do some adventure exploration, arranging a show reservation, and taking me to the National park areas as a credentialed guide. Did I mention, he’s also the volunteer firefighter. I really enjoyed my stay here. The room is clean and comfortable. There were plenty of fans available if I needed them, but the heavenly cross breeze made those unnecessary. I loved that instead of serving breakfast separately, they encourage guests to sit around a bigger table. I met several interesting people this way. Felt great. The location is great. Walking distance from the town main street and less than 10 minutes from the town beach with several Moai’s. Excellent service. Excellent stay. Go here.

In terms of service, on the day I was leaving I asked Marcelo I’d like to buy a specific t-shirt and he drove me around to various shops till I got it. Then he made sure that I have my flight all the way to the security check point at the airport. Now that’s just awesome. I loved, loved my time at Kaimana Inn. It’s a whole experience, made special by the host and his family. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Kaimana Inn is located close to everything you need and everywhere you want to go. The bathrooms are a bit tired - but who cares? you are here to see the moai and experience the island. I cannot recommend this place enough! Friendly staff who go out of their way to help. Marcelo was an EXCELLENT guide. Look no further and stay here. Excellent value for money. Loved it!
I had a wonderful stay at the Kaimana Inn Hotel Restaurant. Breakfast was lovely. They also provided a superb guide to see the island.
A very warm and welcoming reception by Marcelo and his team, you feel part of a family including whatsapp group for new arrivals, so that you can go on tours and restaurants together. Very much enjoyed the tours and all the information provided by Marcelo. Rapa Nui and its history and culture are absolutely fascinating. Family restaurant close by with excellent fresh fish dishes. A once in a lifetime trip!
My stay at Kaimana Inn Rapanui and the hospitality provided by Marcelo (along with Dolly and staff) made my visit to Rapa Nui magical. I was traveling solo and this was birthday trip. Soon after I booked my stay through Booking.com, Marcelo, the owner of Kaimana Inn, communicated with me to obtain my arrival information. I was greeted with a bougainvillea lei upon my arrival in IPC. Because all of us who were staying at Kaimana Inn arrived that week were on the same flight from Santiago, I was able to meet other guests right away. On the way to Kaimana Inn, Marcelo gave our group a driving tour of Hanga Roa, which included a stop at a tourist office in town so that others could purchase the Rapa Nui National Park pass (I had already bought mine online). Kaimana Inn Rapa Nui has six rooms around a courtyard that has the seating lounge, dining area, and small kitchenette. The hot tub you see in photos was not working at that time, but I did not miss not using it. I had the corner room behind the hot tub. It was clean and furnished with a double bed and a twin bed, as well as a standing electric fan and a mini-fridge. There is no air conditioning unit (which I also did not miss). The room was cleaned/tidied up every day by staff. A few hours after we (the guests) settled in, Marcelo had a meeting with us to tell us about the tours he offered and also to provide us with his contact number so we could always reach him via WhatsApp. This proved to be very helpful, as Kaimana Inn does not have a reception desk. Marcelo was very responsive, such as when the water cooler jug needed to be replenished (done within an hour of me letting him know) or when there was a power outage (the generator was turned on right away). Five of us decided to book the tours with Marcelo, who was our tour guide for 3 days (two half-day tours and 1 full-day tour) through all the main archaeological sites. I really wanted to see the lunar eclipse on November 8, which happened to be my birthday, and I asked Marcelo if he did any special tours to view the eclipse. Marcelo asked the rest of the group if they would be willing to start the day an hour earlier, so we could depart Kaimana Inn at 5:30 a.m. (instead of 6:30 a.m.) so we could drive to Ahu Tongariki, where our sunrise tour was, to also view the eclipse. Luckily, everyone was agreeable to this. The morning of the lunar eclipse, most of us were up by 4:30 a.m. anyway and we were able to see the partial eclipse from outside our rooms at Kaimana Inn. This was fortunate, because by the time we had driven to the entrance of the Ahu Tongariki complex, the cloud cover prevented us from viewing the full lunar eclipse and Poike volcano obscured the moonset. We did, however, see a spectacular sunrise behind Ahu Tongariki. Because of our early start, we were the first tour group to enter the complex and were able to enjoy the mo’ais to ourselves as dawn broke and the sun rose, before other tour groups arrived. Marcelo provided us with tea, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches in car tailgating fashion. Marcelo did not charge us extra for the eclipse viewing (I only mention this because I had made some inquiries from other tour companies regarding eclipse viewing tours, and one quoted me $350 for a private eclipse tour; or $120 if there were others in the tour!) Later that day, I and another person in our group who also celebrated her birthday that week, were treated to slices of cake over lunch. I feel very fortunate that the other people in this ad hoc tour group---one guest from a nearby hotel and five guests from Kaimana Inn (a German, a Chilean couple, an Argentinian, and me) were drama-free and we all enjoyed Marcelo’s tour guiding services. Marcelo also helped some of us with reservations to see the Ballet Cultural Puku Rangi Tea at Pea Restobar and we had front row seats to the show (and the sunset preceding the show). Our ad hoc tour group used the WhatsApp group chat to share photos with each other. As Kaimana Inn’s promo says, “People arrive as strangers and leave as friends.” My only regret is that I did not stay at Kaimana Inn for the entirety of my visit to Rapa Nui. I moved to a different guest house after four nights at Kaimana Inn because I thought I wanted to try staying in a different part of Hanga Roa. By the time I realized this was a bad decision, it was too late to cancel reservation at the other place (due to the late cancellation penalty fee). Marcelo kindly drove me to the other guest house after I checked out of Kaimana Inn. If I were fortunate enough to visit Rapa Nui again, I would definitely stay at Kaimana Inn again.
Great Location. Wonderful guide who toured us in his car which was fortunately our best choice. We rented a car and it was our mistake - we didn't use it for the days we were there as Marcelo (Owner of Hotel) was our guide. He is a wonderful man.
The hotel has a gorgeous English guide, but he's a little bit busy.
Marcelo and his family were focused on the best possible experience for their guests. We came in on the third flight after the COVID tourism resumption, which limited the number of days to tour Rapa Nui. Between a little bit of good weather luck and Marcelo's efforts we were able to see all the major attractions without it feeling rushed. I think the point of Kaimana Inn is that Marcelo and his family will go to great efforts to ensure that their guests have a good experience. He also supported logistical questions in advance. In his own words "Sometimes my guests had a difficult journey or have faced other issues but when they leave my goal is for them to view me as a friend".
Careful with the hygiene of the bar, I walked up to order 3 beers and the bartender promptly stuck his fingers in all three glasses in order to grab from fridge. He then presented them to me and I couldn't accept. Certainly in the time of a pandemic this practice should not be happening. Makes me wonder what is happening in the kitchen?
The staff are very friendly and the property is located very close to shops. The water where you can swim is just a few minutes walk away.
Within walking distance to almost everything, comfortable accommodations and friendly host however, we were without hot water for the entire duration. Not sure what the problem was but it was challenging to take COLD showers after a long day of hiking. We kept thinking they would resolve the issue but it never happened. Made for a less than pleasant stay. Other than that it was fine.
After I arrived on the island I was greeted outside by Riu who was-patiently waiting with a sign with my name even though my flight had been significantly delayed. On the way to the hotel he gave me a tour of the town pointing out Important things. My room at the hotel was clean and the bed was very comfortable. It’s a family friendly location and indeed Riu’s cousin Sonia lives on site with her family. She serves a breakfast with fresh fruits and fresh eggs. She actually owns chickens so you can be sure they are fresh. The natural swim pool in the ocean Is a few minutes walk and , shops, and eateries are just around the corner. You can even find Riu singing at the Kahena restaurant. If you see him around town he is happy to give good advice and listen to stories like mine about sea turtles. I have no problems with this place and would come again.
The Kaimana Inn provides a reasonably priced option for Hanga Roa. It is very well located in the town and the nearby Kaimana Restaurant has excellent food. The owners and family (including their dogs) were every friendly, but there was sometimes no-one around (the family have their own house, and I didn't particularly want to disturb them in it). The service was a little hit and miss - one time the room didn't get cleaned, but on the other hand they were very flexible with me staying longer than official check out without extra charge. The room itself was spacious without aircon but with a bfan. The bathroom was fine and the shower hot. The Wifi works about as well as any on the island. The breakfast is very tasty, a good combo of fruits and some meat eggs & cheese. So if you want a family run place with some caracter but mayvbe not high end luxury, then this place is a great bet.
Great location on the main road - very friendly staff amd dogs 😎 Breakfast was perfect mix of carbs and fruit - got a fruit cocktail (no alcohol) on Christmas day - bed and rooms we good too. Wifi did the job
he hotel consists of six rooms around a center courtyard which is the common area and where breakfast is served. These rooms are okay and a small mini fridge and fan are provided. My room had three twin beds. Only one had clean sheets. The other beds had disgusting stained mattresses and pillows. There were little ants that bit me at night. I was originally taken to a cabin down a dirt road. It was a total dump.I saw two huge cockroaches. I grabbed my bag and went to the main area and insisted I be moved or given a refund so I could go somewhere else. The young woman called the guy who picked us up at the airport. After awhile he got there and said, but there was just one cockroach inside, the other was was by the front door. Then he said I could have one of the rooms in the main area, but only for one night and then I’d have to move back to the other one down the road with the cockroaches. I said no way and left to arrange for tours. When I got back the young lady said my bag was in the room and I could stay for there for both nights and she apologized about the cockroaches. The guy was a total jerk. He was rude, said I had no patience and told me if I wasn’t at the hotel by 1pm on my last day that I’d have to get a taxi to the airport instead of him doing the included shuttle. I had a tour that morning that ended a little before 1pm, so I did an expensive private vs a group tour, so I wouldn’t stress about the time. I am 70 years old.
So people either love or hate this place and I guess it's all about expectations. Let me begin by saying I usually stay at Marriott properties in the U.S. but I was up for an adventure. Reminder: you are staying on a remote island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is rustic. I was picked up promptly at the airport. The man gave me a brief tour of the city. He was very helpful arranging a horseback riding trip to Terevaka. He helped me get set up with WiFi. Breakfast was very nice each morning. The property is not air conditioned and the room was very warm in the afternoons. Hot water was in short supply but it is all part of the adventure. My room was cleaned every day. The only problem is this property does not really have a front desk in case you have questions or problems. You have to look around and find someone. I would stay at this property again because it is quaint, centrally located and many places are within walking distance. The transport back to the airport was on time. I like this place!
If you are on a budget and are used to island accommodation, this is an excellent place. The nightly rate is very reasonable in my humble opinion. It is on the main street but set back away from the street. So minimal traffic noise. You are on island so dogs and roosters are common. There is a cultural show nearby and the noise does drift over. I was in room 3 in the corner so noise might not be as noticeable in other rooms. It stopped by 10pm so no issues for me. Note there is no tv so you'll need to entertain yourself. I was the only guest at the property. They staff left me to it but if I needed anything there was always someone at the front office/room area. I thought the lady said breakfast would be served at 8am but it wasn't ready until 8.30am. I'm not sure if it was "island time" or if it was because it was the off season and I was the only guest. I had no issues with the hot water or cleanliness. Again, you are on an island so bugs are to be expected. Bug spray was provided in the room. The wifi wasn't working once and the kind lady reset it as soon as I told her about it. I was allowed to check in early and check out late at no additional cost which is a huge 5-stars from me. A fan was provided as it was quite warm. I felt safe at the property. Would recommend this place for solo travellers.
Unique not having a tv in my room, was not expecting a fridge instead! Much appreciated, as was the fan. Powerful shower with plenty of hot water too. Was a good combination of standard hotel amenities with rustic island charm
I loved this place.. pretty funky mom & pop type place. Not your normal cookie cutter hotel room. NO TV, WiFi that mostly works, delicious included breakfast, and communal outdoor living/dining room area. Island atmosphere... dogs barking, birds chirping, roosters greeting the day! The associated restaurant has delicious food and great entertainment. It is tucked away but still in the central part of Hanga Roa. If you need anything, just send a what’s app message and you get a prompt reply. AND, there is free transfer from and to the airport. If you are looking for the usual corporate hotel stay with a reception desk and concierge, don’t stay here! However, if you want a taste of the local life this fits the bill!
First the pros: - I was picked up at the airport promptly although the plane was late and arrived around 2AM. - The bed was comfortable. - There was hot water if you ran the shower for 3 to 5 minutes beforehand. - The prepared breakfast was excellent! - The location was great - close to main street and I felt safe. - The price was right. - The place was old but the room was cleaned every day except for one. Cons: - I seemed to be the only guest at the hotel for the 6 days. As solo traveller it would have been nice to meet people. - There's really no front desk therefore it was hard to find staff to talk with about issues (like needing more shampoo and where to park my rental car). - Barking dogs in the middle of the night right outside my window - OMG! - The safe didn't work.
Worst experience in 3 decades. Totally different from photos shown in gallery. Poorly maintained and outdated. Dust and blood mark on floor. Did not meet anyone since arrival at 2pm. Had to move to another hotel at 9pm.
Extremely friendly staff. Marcelo was very helpful. Warm and inviting place. Great location.
Stayed 7 days 6 nights. No hot water first 2 days, room not cleaned 2 days, trash not taken out 3 days, No fresh towels 2 days, Black Mold in the shower. Their attempt to clean it was to pour bleach straight on it but not rinse off the bleach. So when I stepped in the shower on the wet bleach the floor was slippery and burned my feet. So I rinsed it off. There is still a lot of black mold in that shower area. Breakfast was not available until 9am - tours start at 9am. So you have to pick breakfast or tour. I chose to rent a car, and in May the best morning lighting in between 9-10am - again breakfast does not fit in that schedule. The first night it was really cool but the extra blanket in the room was very thin, and there is no one there to ask about room supplies. The next day i was able to get 3 extra blankets, so that helped. The rooms have a fan, fridge, no heating. The rooms are a nice size, pleasant staff, enough outlets, great location. Good market and restaurants close by. Parking for a rental car. I was not expecting WiFi to be perfect, but it is of lower quality than i was expecting. She said it was because she has an extra phone that is set to a hot spot. I had to ask a couple of times to have it reset, since it went down. Only strong enough to read email, not enough for anything else. Smoking - there are some people that are smoking; the manager and a guest. Not sure of the smoking policy. More about the hot water - The mgr said something about it being solar, and to run the water longer. I ran it a very long time, so did some of the other guests. No HOT. None of us had any hot water for 2.5 days. THEN they replaced the propane tanks, and magically the water was hot. I asked for a taxi for a certain time - it arrived 15 minutes after the desired time. And it all did work out, but the problem with my ticket that i knew i had to handle was real, and the airline reservation system was super slow. The line grew behind me after they started on my ticket problem. The local restaurant nearby has an island show on M/W/F it is loud, but the music is nice and not too late. Of course you hear dogs, cars, roosters. It is a 6 room facility, 3 on one side of the patio, and 3 on the other side. Don't know anything about any restaurant there - there were no signs of food service other than breakfast.
The good and the bad, going by chronological order. Emailed hotel through its web site and through Expedia to let them know of my flight arrival. No reply… Reading previous reviews, I called, Marcelo seem quite confuse with my time of arrival as he gives me the wrong hour, then we got disconnected, called back to confirm, he sound annoyed then hang up… At airport, Denise was there, very nice with unexpected flower necklace (first time a women offer me flowers), took taxi back to hotel. Hotel location is near main street. Accommodations were very basis, bed was terrible, paper thin wall (could hear my neighbor snoring), unlike advertised, no welcome drink, hot tub was not working, internet almost non-existent, only decent enough for email at 05.00. The worst was the dogs barking next to my window most the night. Breakfast was good, prepared by Denise who was always nice. I really can’t recommend the place at this price (was charged various rates, one was $120 per night…).
Central location, airport pick up/transfer, good breakfast. Internet only fast enough for email very early morning 05.00 Uncomfortable bed, lots of noises from dog barking.
Arranged an airport pickup and reconfirmed the day before. No one turned up to meet me and had to take a taxi at my expense. Then kept waiting an hour to check in whilst the owner took people to the airport which he said would take 10 mins. Pretty basic accommodation but in a reasonable position. If I was going back I would stay somewhere better.
Terrific location, very basic but pleasant. Has wifi, serves breakfast, owner very helpful.
Location is amazing and the open area in between rooms is great! Rooms get hot during the day, but that open area was perfect. Close to great restaurants. Awesome breakfast. Host picks you up/drops you off at the airport. This would be the ideal place for a family event! The common space really seals the deal.
Accommodation on Easter Island, especially during the Tapatai Festival, is generally very expensive so I was happy with the deal I got on this hotel through Hotels.com. Having said that, the accommodation is quite basic with no air-con but a floor standing fan which I had on full-blast the whole time I was in the room. Nice breakfast and a generally friendly atmosphere.
Staff excellent. Picked up from airport and orientation drive of the town before arriving at the hotel. Great location on the Main Street. Easy to walk to the harbour and restaurants. The breakfast was very good and room comfortable.
Kaimana Inn has an outstanding location on the main street. Close to everything, rental car, supermarket, dance show all in walking distance. The room was clean and had everything. The breakfast was great with a variety of choices (ham, cheese, juice, bread, fruit, etc.) The host was helpful and speaks English. He handled the airport transfer and introduced the island to us (places and tour options). We recommend this place to everyone.
Great location and people! We very much enjoyed our stay!
Very friendly and helpful host willing to introduce to the island. The accommodation was closely located to the centre of the little town close to the airport. The host welcome guests with flower neckless and good-bye gift.
Good location. Good staff. Good experience stay here.
The owner of the hotel, Marcel, is very friendly and helpful. He picked me up from the airport, showed us around town and had breakfast for us every morning
