Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Clean basic good sized room. 5 minutes walk to a quite decent Wetherspoons for value food/drink, 10 minutes walk to the railway station.
Event in the banquet suite downstairs with very loud music until midnight, quiet after that however. Only 1 thin pillow provided. Limited car parking on a quite steep slope - if no spaces left be careful where you park, we could see traffic wardens in the street outside from early on the Sunday morning ticketing people.
Had a great stay. Bed was comfy and bathroom a good size.
No issues
Location was spot on The Bar was great

Very nice and accommodating check-in attendent. Room met all of my needs and had a fan available due to the summer heat. Shower was clean and the water pressure/temp was perfect! I liked everything. I arrived very late (or early, I suppose is more accurate - around 1:00 a.m.) so I appreciated that someone was still able to help me.
Perfect location for visiting Barry island. Staff were very helpful and we had everything we needed.
If i had to say anything it would be the parking was limited so tricky at times to park. But not an issue if your willing to walk when all spaces are taken.
Ready tired decorate and general appearance. The shelves were falling off the wall next to the bed. Bunk beds needed to be tightened. Shower holder coming off the wall. Couldn’t open the windows in the bathroom or bedroom. Shower curtain doesn’t cover the edge of the bath so water everywhere, probably why skirting boards rotting! General an unclean feeling. Couldn’t open the fridge because it rubbed on the carpet. Staff looked unkempt, polite enough and tried to help. The hotel lets its self down. It’s a shame.

Location , staff always ready to help x
Nothing x
Near Railway station and where I needed to visit Event. Been here a few times in the past.
Sadly the hotel no longer serves Any Food There is a pub near by sells evening meal and another for Breakfast. No side lights by Bed .
Lovely staff, amazing location.
Hotel and staff were amazing and so kind/helpful, rooms were clean, tidy and had everything we needed for our 2 day stay. Location is brilliant, 20min walk to the seafront and 1min walk to bars, restaurants and shops.
Car park is tiny however, there is street parking
Great location if you’re here for the Gavin and Stacey experience. Staff were lovely. Cheap price
The hallways were in need of a very deep clean as all the walls and carpets were stained with mysterious liquids, the entire hotel including our room smelled of marijuana. Other guests keeping me and my partner up till 3am with music as loud as physical possible and even though I had mentioned it to staff no one did anything. Wish we had know this when booking but they had rented the function room out for the evening and even though we was are the far side of the hotel we could here the bass till early hours of the morning. I understand it is a budget hotel but not many places to hang clothes, wet towels ect. Again I understand with the price it’s not a luxury hotel but my word are the mattresses awful, it’s like laying on lumpy sheet metal. The door didn’t lock so had to use a chair to press against the door. Couldn’t park In The car park as it was always full with it seeming like not many people were staying here so had to park on the street a few minutes away. I completely get it’s a budget hotel at £54 a night which it did serve a purpose but if the prices go up in peak times then maybe something to consider if wanting to book.
This property was clean and has super comfy beds. Staff went over and above to help and were so friendly and helpful .
Nothing at all
Good location stayed before and enjoyed it
Single beds were very uncomfortable...really could not get a decent sleep om the beds which is the most important part of the stay
Location spot on
Shower screen needs cleaning
Big room
Fan/extractor noisy on first night didn't sleep till around 3am
Location good, friendly staff, value for money.
No wash stuff for shower. Pillows need looking at.Room to warm could only open windows a little
The location and staff
Very uncomfortable bed very thin one pillow each. And thin duvet woke up freezing. And a lot of banging and noise from others.
Basic rooms but good value for money. Adam at reception was fantastic and made great local recommendations.
Fairly basic facilities. I was in room 54 and couldn't get any hot water in the shower.
Great location
Horrible room. Felt like I was being held hostage in a basement. It smelt awful in the room and the carpet walls and ceiling were all one awful brown colour with no decorations, so it felt very eerie and unwelcoming. Yes, it was cheap, but it was also filthy and there wasn’t even hand soap. This place has potential but I wouldn’t wish this room on anyone.
The location was very good and the staff were extremely helpful.
Such friendly staff clean room great value for money
Could of been slightly bigger room
Good location
Facilities were very poor. Room was very dated and tired and nothing like the rooms shown on their profile. The carpet was dirty and old. The beds were the same. We only had one flat pillow each. No wardrobe. There was a wedding on which we did not know about when booking. Extremely loud music till midnight
I thought mount rooms was in a good location to hop on the train to barry island, other shops and close to most things. The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean and tidy.
Couple of ideas maybe hand soap in the bathroom, as I had to keep using the shampoo I bought with me to wash my hands. And maybe a couple of chairs on the decking outside our room as we sat outside a lot but had to stand or sit on the floor.
Clean, cosy room with comfortable bed and bathroom. TV, kettle, tea & coffee provided. Hairdryer. Nice, friendly staff and an extra pillow was promptly provided when asked for - thank you!
Could of done with some coat hooks on the door, although there was a wardrobe with hangers to hang coats and other clothes. Also, it would have been nice to have a towel rail in the bathroom, as nowhere to hang any towels. However, not a problem at all!
Tea and coffee in room. Shower good.
Tired, untidy entrance and scruffy in reception rooms. No food. Mop bucket with wet mop in reception by desk. Room small and smelled damp and a bit smoky. Noisy at night in corridors. No sound insulations.
Every thing we needed in the room was there clean tidy and comfortable excellent value for money
Nothing
Very basic plqce. Decor poor but v3ry cgeap and only 5 mins from cardiff airport. Fine for 1 night stay
Needs bit of a refurb. Poor finishes throughout
Location
Facilities were poor and not a comfortable place to stay
Good location. Good powerful shower. Excellent friendly staff. Very helpful and great customer service.
Could hear the lift door pinging sound each time it opened.
Really friendly staff. Very helpful.
No restaurant for breakfast or dinner options.
Leaving to go home
Everything. Disgusting room with stains. Broken tv damp smell
Good location close to town
The hotel hasn't had much repairs, maintenance, refurb work done on it for many years and is now looking really tired and run down. Our room didn't look anything like the glossy pictures - peeling paint work, water stains from leaking pipes everywhere, and taps which weren't fixed to the basin.
Location fab and great for the money, lovely and clean.
No toiletries, hair dryer (but I suppose that’s why it’s nice a cheep) room hot, bed not as comfortable but that’s my opinion. Struggled to sleep as it was so loud but hotel was full. Other customers need to respect a time where you need to be quiet for others. Nice bar but staff on reception were the ones serving at the bar also, so maybe a sign on the bar to let people know would help. Overall nice stay.
Very comply beds
Needs updating
Good location
Very noisy at night with function room below bedrooms. Music blasting out until 11.40pm then balloons being popped for 10 mins. Very frustrating as early start next day and needed to feel refreshed
Easy access
Limited parking
It was fine
No issues
The front exterior amd main reception
The room was nothing like the pictures, it was the complete opposite. It was dirty and dated!
The room was a good size, very clean and bed was comfy.
No issues
Great service, great location and fantastic price. We had a great room. It was quiet and walking distance from Barry Island even for my 5 year old.
We had accommodation at very short notice and it was cheap.
Mattress was awful. Room was very small.
The location was excellent, it was clean and friendly staff.
The beds were really uncomfortable, the toilet only flushed intermittently. It was very noisy but this was due to a wedding event one night. We weren’t informed in advance only at check in.
It's cheap and cheerful. The staff are friendly & helpful. The rooms are clean. You get privacy. I've stayed before and I'll stay again.
Bed was uncomfortable this time & no mattress topper was available.
De lokatie was prima, het was goed schoon. Ik mocht eerder de kamer in, heel fijn. Receptioniste was super aardig
The lady in the reception she was really kind.. happy client will always return
Sockets not near bed😊
It was clean and tidy inside. Decorated lovely and close to the high street
The bed was very very uncomfortable. Bird poop on the huge windows spoiling the lovely view of the lit up church
The location was ideal for the venue we attended. The rooms were relatively close to each other which we requested. Staff very pleasant and attentive.
The rooms were very small and dated. The bathroom had traces of being cleaned in a hurry. Cleaning products dripping down the side of the bath. The beds were very old and uncomfortable. Our thoughts were they were going to break if we moved. Only 2 worn out pillows provided. We didnt want to bother the staff to provide more.
Did here upstairs lucky I was at the end of the
Was not told Wi fi and not sure if there was a breakfast?
A great location. Walking distance to the sea. 3 mins walk to town high street and weather spoons.
2 big broken window frames which I assumed to have been bodged up special sellotape. You also could not shut this window! It was opened when we arrived and open when we left. We stayed for 3 nights ! The shower wasn't attached properly, and when you try to adjust the height of it,it came away from the attachment. There was no toilet roll holder. There was no bin in the bathroom. The heated towel rail was perminantly on hot and whenever you went to take your towels on or off even gently ,the stew that was holding it against the wall came out of the wall and the rail was hanging off. There was no hook on the door to hang any clothes etc. The heater in the bedroom was very dusty ,as were all the skirting boards. In the corners they were even worse and not been hoovered for a while ! Above the headboard was a black line about 4 ft long where the old headboard must have reached to. The wardrobe was not big enough for 2 people staying 3 nights. ! And that was all the storage there was apart from a slim drawer under the table. The size and quality of the two cups to drink out of were ridiculously small and of very poor quality. We were not left to glasses to use ,and the only spoon that was left was 1 dessert spoon. ! When you opened the windows ,they were completely rotten with cobwebs. And not sure when the windows were last clean. I window would not stay open and just slammed down shut seconds after you opened it. Terrible stains on the wall by the radiator. The bathroom mirror had some nice bulb lighting surrounding it,but was let down by someone having removed one of the bulbs. There was no mattress protector on the bed !!!!! We were given 1 pillow each to sleep on,with the depth of about 2 inches. When asked for 4 more to get some height first of my husband was told they didn't think they had any spare ones. I went back half an hour later to reception requesting more, they said they would go and look to see if they could find some.
No breakfast offered location was great walking distance from town an attractions
The beds were not comfortable could feels springs
They promised me to change my double to a twin back in May..it never happened
Bar prices
Comfy bed, friendly staff.
Needed a hoover all over the hotel.
The property is nothing like the photos advertised. It is very misleading and the hotel is tired and falling apart.
Rooms dirty. Coffee cups not clean. Stains on the carpet. Bathroom was horrible. Floor sticky. I couldn’t shower because the water was so hot and temperature would not adjust On the website it says there is a bistro. Doesn’t exist anymore and no breakfast.
The mirror was not attached to the wall and fell onto my head. There weren't any washing products available and only two towels for a family of four. The bedding was thin. The carpets were stained and there was broken glass on the carpet upon arrival. The TV and the hair dryer didn't work.
Great location, very close to the station which was handy for visiting Cardiff for the football. Friendly reception staff and spotless room. For the price you can't complain.
Car park too small and difficult to access. Managed to find street parking close by. Only 1 chair in a double room is not ideal.
Good stop over location for airport
It’s basic but reflected in the price
The staff are welcoming and friendly, and it was only a short walk to the amusements and seafront
The room was a little bit snug but for the price. I’m not complaining.
The staff were welcoming and friendly
Rooms very basic 1 large towel provided for 2 people Floorboards very creaky Walls seem very thin and can hear a pin drop Needs a complete refurbishment No hairdryer, mini toiletries so make sure you pack everything. Only 1 pillow provided, did go and ask for an extra pillow and they bought it up to the room. Food no longer served It was a short stay and just needed a room to sleep. Would i re book, honestly no.
Good location. Short walk into town. Very friendly staff and lovely and clean.
Had a problem with our shower. Think the thermostat had broken, as could only get boiling hot or scalding hot water. It wasn’t too much of a problem as we had booked two rooms and the other shower was fine.
The location was great for visiting Barry
The room really wasn't very clean - the fan was full of dust, there were nail clippings on the floor unfortunately. I have stayed here a few times over the years but seems like it has gone down hill. The parking in very limited also. No shampoo or body wash either - i even asked at the desk for these and there wasnt any available.
Good location to the train station.friendly staff.
Advertising a gym but they dont own it so unable to use.
The reception area and bar space. The cleanliness and friendly staff.
No food No sound proofing or notices reminding to not slam doors Vague information at reception and no details in room
Everything! We had read some less than positive reviews and wondered what to expect when we arrived but we needn't have worried! The lady on reception wad so friendly and helpful, check in was a breeze, our room was lovely, at the front of the building with a view of the sea and Barry Island funfair. Shower, bath, toilet and sink were spotlessly clean. Plenty of toilet roll, a bath mat and a hand towel and bath towel each. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and kettle. Two cups. One spoon. When we asked for more milk on day two the lady bagged up a whole new tea and coffee package too. The bed was RIDICULOUSLY COMFORTABLE. (We took our own pillows) There was a fan in the room BUT it was on a timer.
Honestly? A few tiny tweaks like: Better quality pillows and 2 per person, matching full size mugs for the tea and coffee, two spoons, A fan without a timer on it, A plug socket on the other side of the room A remote for the tv And run a hoover over the whole place. Otherwise, it was perfect as was!
Good location for exploring Barry. Rooms were clean, one had a fridge.
Mattress in bedroom was uncomfortable. No breakfast option available while we stayed.
The water pressure was very good Good location Front desk receptionist was very good
Mattress was as hard as a brick Only one pillow each so neck is now quite sore and can’t turn it left No body soaps or washes for showers which you’d usually expect a hotel to have
The staff on reception were excellent. They were friendly and proactive to try and help support us
The maintenance of the room was appalling. The radiator literally fell off the wall while we were out, and was leaking into the room all night meaning we hardly slept. The TV could not pick up any TV channels at all. We have logged a complaint with the owners of Mount Rooms, but after nearly a week no reply or any apologies. I was highly disappointed when booking through Booking com that they have association with accommodation that would provide such a disappointing experience.
It was in barry
Wasnt clean. Was a very tired room. Car park was mad! Nothing how it looks on the pictures
Great location, walking distance from good pub en train station, not much else around, but train gives easy access to Barry island and Cardiff
Definitely an old hotel, but still well kept, old as in small room, but huge bathroom, lacking night stand with a bed light. Of course no airco, but these old buildings don’t get too hot. Limited onsite parking, but sufficient street parking
We needed a last minute room for the night and the Mount Rooms looked very good value for money. The girl on reception was very pleasant and checking in was easy. The hotel is conveniently situated to make the short journey to Barry Island and the room was clean and the shower was hot and powerful.
However, the mattress on the bed was so soft it literally swallowed you up, and the pillows were so thin as to be almost non-existent. Not a comfortable night.
Really dont no what people complain about this place for its brilliant for the money very clean showers amazing and wetherspoons an train station at bottom of the hill . I really thought it was great the staff were all just lovely also I hope it is stil going next year .
We stayed for a friend’s birthday party. The building and the rooms are dated but it is clean, the staff are friendly. We paid around £65 so excellent value, there is a bistro area so I think they would benefit from offering breakfast.
No breakfast offered but facilities there. We were aware of this at the time of booking, lots of very local places to eat anyway so no problem. Minor issue, coffee offered in room was very old, granules had melted. Again no major issue, usually take my own as extras and I’m sure reception would have replaced them
The staff were pleasant
Wasn’t told there was a wedding reception on, the place was packed and noisy. Couldn’t use the bar as the wedding guests were all in there. Couldn’t get past the front entrance when we went for a walk as they were all out there smoking. Couldn’t get a good night sleep as very loud. Car was blocked in by guests, so couldn’t move my car till the next day. As for the room, we had the small double, very warm, no fan, no hairdryer, small amount of soap in the bathroom and only 1 coffee sachet (which was horrid). Room hadn’t been vacuumed properly as cobwebs behind the curtains and so much mess under the bed. The ceiling light was hanging off and very dangerous and a makeshift bedside lamp on the wall was also swinging very loosely.
Close to train station and pub ; not far from Barry island and gavin and Stacey home
I think the room just needed some tlc
Staff were lovely and very helpful and helped carry the luggage and direct us to the room. I was grateful as my Mum has mobility problems. Kettle and tea and coffee provided was nice.
Everything was bare basics. I'm glad I locked the door as somebody (probably lost) tried the door. There were no complimentary toiletries, everything seemed like it really needed a refresh. The views from the windows were depressing. My Mum has mobility problems but there was a step in our room and up to our room. Apparently, we could have asked for more pillows but we had a flat pillow each. Outside the parking was terrible, I'm so glad that my sister dropped us off, as if I had driven I would have been really stressed trying to look after my Mum and get the luggage up the steps and try and juggle parking too.
Stuff is friendly , bed is comfortable , all clean, shower very good
Light, no table lamp, was no toilet paper, but then administrator gave me, was hear how neighbours talk next door, view out of window was depressive , no hairdryer, no shampoo, just soap . Very little you get for £70
Friendly staff Location Cost
Room decor (or lack of). There were no lamps, just had big light only, made it difficult to unwind to sleep. Noises from corridor very clear to hear in the room, people walking past or going up the stairs
No food offered and no explanation that it doesn’t save food
Basic hotel ,
Basic hotel . Walking to our room we did notice a very distinctive smell of urine, faint but definitely in the air . We did visit in a heatwave. No fan or air-conditioning. Our room was on the second floor but we had like a roof underneath our window so didn't feel confident enough having the window open . Very basic room . Bed wasn't the most comfortable but managed to sleep. Only had 1 pillow but we called down to reception and they gave us more . This place has so much potential. Staff we're friendly .One member of staff for reception and the bar so the poor girl seemed busy .
