Everything. We were walking the SDW. After a long, hilly day, the Nest was an oasis. Only a short distance downhill from the SDW path. It's a gastro pub with accommodation. The accommodation was AMAZING. One of the best hotels I've stayed in. Very luxurious, huge room and bed with an elegant bath that helped sooth the pains of walking. The food in the restaurant was one of the best. As a vegetarian, pub food can be mediocre. I was still thinking about the food the next day on my walk. And the sticky toffee pudding just melted in our mouths. I loved the fact that it's a family business. The parents and the children were working the floor at the dinner service. Makes it more special to support a small family run business. Highly recommend this place. We got a packed breakfast so that we could start our walk the next day early. But the place is soo nice, that we didn't leave until check out time ;) .
Nothing.
FORMAL COMPLAINT submitted to The Nest, booking.com and Trading Standards as start point as the owners are unwilling to communicate about their serious BREACH OF CONTRACT and TOTAL LACK OF DUTY OF CARE/SAFETY ISSUES. We were threatened with police action and evicted for no legal reason ( or indeed any understandable reason). The staff were very aggressive and bullying. They have form. Other review platforms highlight at least one case of eviction of a couple in their 60’s with a similar bewildering story and many reviews of atrocious customers service, rude staff and bullying behaviour. We haven’t received a full refund and compensation for our emergency expenses let alone any compensation for our appalling treatment. This matter could be resolved if The Nest engage in communication but they have chosen not to. We are therefore escalating our complaint and will be warning other customers about The Nest through social media, Trading Standards, and other organisations
Great overnight stay for cyclists, family-run pub, cozy restaurant and clean rooms
very quiet and silent
i did not like the property close at 1 am.
Great for us as secure car park for our vehicles, peaceful location and a lovely homely feel to the rooms.
Only continental breakfast served on the day we stayed (weekday).
Very well appointed, lovely team and very good food.
All good, thank you.
Breakfast and dinner were absolutely fine. Location was stunning in the middle of a Dark Sky National Park. Beautiful drive to get there and a great location to explore the South Downs.
Bed was small for a King Room, I didn't measure it but it felt more like a double. Room was very small as well, and the view out onto the car park wasn't ideal.
Friendly, comfortable room, excellent food.
Nothing.
Exceptional service from the owners making for a wonderful stay at this hotel
Breakfast was frugal.
Room was terribly cramped in attic space. I wonder if the owners had a fire certificate
My son Duncan and I loved staying here for two nights. Everything was lovely and the rooms were so pleasant and comfortable. The owner couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. Top marks!
Nothing. It was all lovely!
Loved everything about our stay. Lovely friendly welcome. Room was beautiful, spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed. En-suite was fabulous with luxurious towels and luxury shower gel, shampoo & conditioner. Kettle, Tea, coffee, milk & biscuits were in the room. Dinner was delicious, lamb & mango curry & we also joined in with the locals for bingo night which was fun. Continental breakfast was brilliant with a large selection to include, toast, warm croissants, yoghurt, fruit etc. Great coffee too!! 10/10 - Total perfection! Thanks for such a lovely stay 😊
Outstanding friendly, helpful service from the family team - very enjoyable stay and excellent food as well!
Great friendly place to stay after an off-road ride along the South Downs Way from Winchester. Barn Owl room was fabulous.
Breakfast didn’t start till 9am (Saturday/Sunday) and we really wanted to get away earlier to do the next leg of the South Downs Way…. Great breakfast though
My wife is celiac, it was nice to be at a location where you feel you can trust how the food is prepared. Most of the menus was gluten free.
Nothing
Great location
I thought being charged £15 to make up a sofa bed was a bit much and the owners didn’t make me feel that welcome to be honest….
Breakfast adequate / satisfactory. Lovely location and good evening meal
Staff a little stern. Far too many rules. Poor WiFi / mobile. Doors locked at odd times - couldn’t get in and out before 9 or between 10 and 12
We liked everything about The Nest in Buriton. Small, but comfy clean modern rooms above the pub. Very friendly staff. Great food at the restaurant. Especially impressed by Gluten Free options, as this is important for us. Even though we were above the pub, sound insulation is good so no disturbance at all. Parking was easy. Recommended.
No improvements I can think of
Near South Downs cycle route. Clean and comfortable room. Varied restaurant menu. Comfy bed and good shower with lovely toiletries. They made up packed lunches for us for cycle trip (£10 pp) which were tasty. Bike racks at rear of property where we could lock our bikes, they then lock car park gates overnight.
Poor communication pre arrival. I sent two emails and got no response. Tried calling but they’re closed mon & Tues. Breakfast bag is quite limited if you have to leave early but the breakfast served may be more substantial. Twin room was beautifully decorated but very small. Great for one night, would have been claustrophobic for longer.
The room is advertised with a sofa bed but they wouldn't make it for us. Because of that they then charged us for an extra room. We wrote in but they said it was clearly advertised on their website and booking.com. we sent them the details which confirmed it wasn't advertised and stated it comes with a sofa bed that can be used. They have stopped emailing back.
Family run with staff who actually care!
Really lovely family run hotel and restaurant and a fabulous welcome. Excellent food and service. Highly recommend the Ice cream sundaes! Quiet location, clean and well presented room.
It would have been good if we had been informed at check in that the car park is locked overnight to avoid us disturbing the owners before 7am in the morning as we needed to be away early one morning to get to The Festival of Speed. No big deal, but we felt bad for waking people up.
Breakfast was fantastic as was the evening meal👍staff were great too!
A shower rather than a bath in the room
Very friendly and great place to relax after a long day walking, great food
Lovely family run hotel Friendly Clean rooms with a bath tub Quirky room names which I found adorable Staff were attentive Restaurant food was nice I'd recommend this place
Nothing
The food was very good and the service at dinner was also very good.
The mildly aggressive tone of the 'Welcome' leaflet. The unenclosed loo. The lockdown of the pub/hotel and car park at 10.00/10.30 at night until an unspecified time in the morning
Really full of character and great room Excellent for walking on the South Downs. Way We really enjoyed our evening meal in the bar Beautiful village and surrounding countryside
Wonderful family-run country inn and pub. Rooms were well appointed, very comfortable bed, impeccably clean. Restaurant was packed with guests and also many locals
The only thing I might request is a bit of protein (hard boiled egg? yoghurt? or even protein bars?) at breakfast since most of the guests, like us, seem to be walking the South Downs Way
Great base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Room (Peacock) was larger than expected and comfortable. Food was delicious, everyone was very friendly, and the village is extremely pretty. Couldn’t recommend highly enough
Great service

Great food and just off the South Downs way, easy to access
Lovely room which was very clean and spacious, The Barn Owl room was fabulous, as anticipated, as it wasn't cheap. Good parking. Food was good, an eclectic mix on the menu to cater for most tastes. Very convenient for the SouthDowns Way, if you want to treat yourself to a relaxing evening and a good peaceful nights sleep. Cooked breakfast was extra but the continental was plentiful.
No iron , or maybe I just needed to look harder or ask for one. It would have been nice to have a plug socket near a mirror but they were only by the bed.
Comfortable, lovely decor in rooms and the pub. Very friendly staff.
Rooms were quite small.
Fantastic locality and beautifully presented. Very clean and well kept.
Everything was really good and acceptable.
Friendly people good food beautiful location
Small room for price
Friendly and professional staff. Clean and well set out rooms.
Generally well decorated but not keen on the plastic flowers.
The location, set in a very pretty village. The food was excellant and nicely presented.
On arrival just given direction to our room, no offer of help up two flights of stairs. A very small cramped room with only skylights. No wardrobe space, only some hooks on the wall.
I liked everything about this hotel. We stayed in ten pubs and hotels while doing the South Downs Way and the Nest was by far the best place we stayed. Really lovely room, super staff and great food. 10/10. Would not hesitate to stay again.
Nothing. It was great
Great staff good location
-
Lovely pub and staff food was good.
Should have been a cooked breakfast for the price.
Staff were really pleasant and the meal in the Restaurant was excellent
I found the Bedroom very small. I could barely walk down the side of the bed.
Soft towels, hard bed, Tasty food

Perfect and relaxing night away
Slightly later check out would have been good, but not a real issue
Run by a lovely local family, very close to the South Downs Way.
Friendly clean and welcoming
Breakfast but understand why it is continental only
Very clean, quiet and comfortable room. Excellent food and service at the restaurant. They feature local products like beer from Flower Pots Brewery. Ideal location for South Downs Way walkers. Ample car parking space. We had an early start the next morning and they kindly provided bagged continental breakfast the evening before. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room were also great. Charming village to enjoy walking in.
This historic hotel may not be suitable to those with mobility issues as there are no ground floor rooms and no lift.
Very clean, comfortable room, well located for our purposes, the drinks and food were good (see further comment below).
Limited menu, food and drinks expensive, fairly basic continental breakfast (cooked breakfast overly priced).
Locatie en goede parkeerplaats. Zeer vriendelijke familie.
Helaas geen douche mogelijkheid in het bad.
A wonderful family run hotel in a perfect location…. Lovely room and a great breakfast
I have to say the towels were absolutely amazing at The Nest!! Amazing!
Cooked breakfast included?
Wonderful family run hotel, they gave us a warm welcome and a comfortable, clean and spacious room. Dinner was excellent in their busy restaurant, and we enjoyed a relaxed drink in the bar beforehand. We thoroughly enjoyed our cooked breakfast the following morning, and there was plentiful choice for the continental breakfast. They were more than happy to arrange a tasty packed lunch for our walk the following day.

Family run business staff friendly and brilliant service
Amazing find! Owners worked so hard to make our stay fantastic. Comfy beds, really good bathrooms and good food.
It’s a long way from home (7hours) to visit often.
Great location, perfect for country walks. Accommodation was first class, spotless. Food was excellent, quality of ingredients superb. Owner and family extremely welcoming.
Nothing!
The rituals toiletries
The room was very very small and only had skylight windows. There was hardly room to move. I found it very claustrophobic. Extremely poor value for money.
Clean, easy to find, very welcoming and friendly hosts who were able to accommodate all of our hiking-related requests! Great food too!
Nothing.
It was lovely to have a room where the windows opened fully and you looked out on to the trees at night. Service was friendly and very efficient. We asked for and received room with standalone shower in the en-suite. Dinner was of an excellent standard with a good , if not exciting choice. The cost included a continental breakfast with added cost if you wanted cooked from what seemed like an interesting selection . For us the continental with fruit , yoghurt cereal/ toast/ pastries with astoundingly good coffee was of a standard so rarely offered. The village itself with duck pond etc was delightful to visit even if one prefers the more rugged North to live ! An excellent stay .
Nothing was an issue but it is worth noting the room we had was quite small which could be a little cramped if staying for more than a day or two.
Super impressed. Really friendly, well managed place. Felt very much at home and well looked after. Dinner and breakfast excellent and nice ales too.
Can’t think of a single thing.
Very lovely family run country hotel. Service was welcoming and attentive. Modern decor with original features. Nice ambiance. Restaurant was almost full for dinner, as the food was just perfect. Breakfast was simple but delicious with assigned table for each room. Nice size room with lots of high quality branded amenities, even bath bombs! Fresh milk with in room coffee/ tea was a really nice touch.
The only down side was that the mattress on the bed was too soft. It was very bouncy and therefore uncomfortable.
The staff were very friendly and the room extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Nothing
The staff were very attentive and excellent. The food and service were excellent. The whole place was exceptionally clean. Nothing was too much trouble.
A very small detail - but a couple of hooks on the back of the doors in Hummingbird would have been very welcome. We had wedding outfits to hang up and struggled to do that - very minor thing and it wouldn't stop me from visiting again.
