The location
The staff was rude and walked into the room unannounced. The manager latter apologized for the mistake but it seemed weird she came in unannounced.
Very clean areas and furniture. Safe place, good bed and bed linen. Good to have complementary coffee and water. Very nice deck solarium! Loved to seat with my morning coffee ☕️ there! Staff super friendly 👌
To have a glass slide door as primary entrance to the room. Felt weird... also, price very high per night....
Beautiful and Cozy hotel by the beach. Staff was friendly and helpful and had a blast. Definitely recommend!!
Nothing
Our first time staying at this hotel will definitely book our stay again in the future. Staff was wonderful, always helpful, and checked if we needed anything every time we walked by. Clean rooms and common areas with a nice roof top deck.
We had a wonderful stay. The bed was extremely comfortable. We spent a lot of time sitting on the rooftop area overlooking the harbor. It was spectacular. The location couldn't be beat. Everything was perfect.
We stayed at Hotel Bellanca for just one night but made sure to arrive on the first ferry and depart on the last for the respective days. The hotel location is incredible. We booked the package including the Catalina Express ferry which included the shuttle to hotel, very convenient. Bonus is that you can leave your bags in the lobby prior to check in and after check out. We made use of the beach towels and chairs which is a wonderful amenity to have given that the beach is across the street.
The location was perfect to get around.
I paid for and booked a garden view. I didn’t get that. The hotel also has bikes to rent, however the bikes were returned and lined up against my room that I couldn’t get out of the front door.
I felt like a second class guest because I booked through Booking.com. Staff mentioned it so many times that since I booked through Booking.com I couldn’t have this or that .
Tike was old, shower was dirty, room was on the road, electrical outlet didn’t work near the bed, no safe in the room and they couldn’t bring one;
Great location, right on the waterfront street.
Bad service, smelly rooms hard to talk with management
Conveniently located. Walkable to the beach club. Booked ocean view. Read online that some ocean view rooms had balconies. Asked about this upon check-in. He said room had a direct ocean view but no balcony. I didn’t protest, but once in the room it did have a balcony with seating. Room 504. Appeared that room 503 had a similar balcony as well. Room was adequately sized for 3 people with one bed and a pull out. Privacy/cleaning tag kept falling off the door. Went to front desk to specifically request the room be cleaned but housekeeping never came. Didn’t eat at the restaurant but the cocktails were very good! Bartender super friendly.
The views and location
…
Clean rooms nice bed
People right outside out sliding glass door. Wry loud could hear everything. Felt like people were three feet from out bed and in reality they could have been No real privacy
Very clean. Nice toiletries.
Front desk not particularly friendly. Terrible first impression.
Right on beach. Great view.
Great stay at Bellanca, great staff and will recommend to family & friends. My room was very clean and well designed. View of the beach was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. Bar service and cocktails were awesome, special thanks to Diana, Alma, Claudia, Sandra and the leader of the team Jessica.
Wonderful location, great view! Adorable boutique hotel. We were so close to everything. It’s a great midway point to the casino and Descanso Beach Club and downtown. We would definitely stay there again.
Truly an incredibly nice property, loved the location, enjoyed the rooftop patio. They actually recommended Antonio's, just around the corner, as we had one older teen who lives for pizza, which we took up on the patio and enjoyed peaceful spaciousness and tranquility while people watching the endless flow of activity 4 floors below us and all the boats out in the harbor. Easy base for all our activities over the weekend.
Close to beach
Room was very expensive for such a small room
The room was small and not very clean, and the carpet was dirty. The hotel’s location was good, but I was charged an extra $200 for a stain on the linen. When I contacted customer service to ask if the charge could be reduced or removed, they were rude and said they did not care about reviews. Had terrible experience at this hotel. Will never stay here again.
Nice hotel, but a little pricey for the room and location, but it's Catalina, so there not that much that can be done. Location was walking distance to all of Catalina's points of interest. Would definitely stay here again.
Staff was negligent. Room was decent. Bikes were great to get around the island! There is an early check in option with a fee. They call back if anything opens up but staff is selective.
Great location and I prefer hotels that are not chains and have a fun vibe - Ballanca was exactly that ! Very clean Would definitely stay here again Of note - If you prefer natural light and some level of privacy I would strongly recommend asking for a room on 3rd or 4th floor My only suggestion to hotel is to have some lighting option by bed Only lights are the bathroom and light over the table and it’s bright and inconvenient if you are in bed. Also since the only ventilation is the little window above the sliding door might be nice to have a small fan
What an utter disappointment! We arrived before dark on the afternoon boat for our anniversary weekend, and expected an ocean view at an ocean front property. At $500 per night, with an additional $60 taxes, our room had NO view, it was hot and stuffy (like they weren't even expecting us to check in), walls were covered in stains, bathroom was missing grout with rust and MOLD in the showers, sink leg bent looking like it was about to break, door bathroom door creaking, and hearing the neighbors at 10pm and 6am walking by talking loud and keeping us from sleeping. They offered no breakfast credit, unlike the email I received before arrival, and overall, it was just the most unpleasant experience! At that rate, I could have stayed at a Four Seasons or the Ritz Carlton with better amenities and hospitality service. No one even asked me how our stay was on checkout, like they could care less since they already collected credit card info. Be aware of the price gouging on their own website, since external websites all show Bellanca rooms at $200 less per night which is still overpriced for the motel-like quality we came to discover... I would never recommend this and hope travelers beware!
Location ease of access
Sharing wall with Bar, wasn't ideal in the morning.
Location, staff, and cleanliness
Noise. Rooms along road had lots of noise and would not recommend.
Everything! location, staff, deck, bikes, beach chairs. We love this place
Nothing we don’t like
Location is perfect, roof-top terrace was great. Beautiful view to have coffee/cocktails. Bed very comfortable, shower was good. Clean room. Nice staff.
Had to request for coffee to be restocked instead of hotel just doing it. The creamer and sugar was packets were not good.
Room is really small, I did not get room service/ my room cleaned during the weekend I stayed. Definitely not what it looks like in the website
Clean room with a modern restroom.

Location and staff were excellent and helpful.
A chair in the room that was regular type not a bar stool for a small person. We like to end our day watching TV but the only place to sit was the bed, a chair to sit and have a drink would have been nice.
Location
Broken bathroom door trapping you in bathroom, then fight your way out. Odor from drain when showering.
The room was spacious with a view. The view was next to the street and we had several conversations with people walking by.
The television didn’t work very well.
The location of the hotel and the rooftop area were the only good things about this hotel. The rooms have glass sliding doors, and our room was right in front of a concrete staircase. Their "quiet time" was to have been from 10 AM to 10 PM. The housekeeping staff was up and cleaning, vacuuming at 7:AM. Again, since the doors do not keep out noise, it was like they were in the same room. The two small windows on the back wall of Room 103 both opened up to the street level, where we enjoyed listening to people in golf carts roaring down the street. Even with the windows closed. The guests in the room above our room were up all night, bouncing around, and it sounded like they were going to fall through the ceiling. When I shared that information upon checking out, the front desk clerk was rude and told me that the deck was above our room, and it was locked at night; therefore, no one could have been above us. But, there is a room above room 103. In short, the location is amazing, and the housekeeping staff was helpful and kind. We have stayed in Catalina for over 30 years, staying in hotels, condos, and bungalows. Never before have we encountered such indifference and uncaring hotel staff.

Clean room but small
Being in the inner court the ambient light made sleeping difficult. The rooms just were not dark enough. Sliding glass door was entry and curtains did not block enough light.
We absolutely adored the property’s convenient waterfront location, just a short walk from the ferry. The rooms were spacious, and we had a delightful deluxe king room on the first floor with a charming little balcony. It was the perfect setting for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate our 7th anniversary. There’s also a delightful restaurant bar called the Naughty Fox. Although we didn’t dine there, we did indulge in a few of their cocktails, and they were all incredibly delicious. The toiletries and shower were great, and Dad was super comfortable in the cute robes inside the room. The staff was more than helpful, accommodating our needs. We were even able to extend our stay for the day and leave when our ferry departed later in the day for an additional fee.
Some of the other rooms appeared a bit cramped in size. I would recommend booking at least a king-size room for a couple. we were lucky enough to get a room on the first floor in the back, which felt much more private than the rest of the hotel.
Very clean
That my room was next to the house keeping room
I loved the location and the cozy feel
Honestly nothing. Super great
Great location! Friendly staff. Excellent water pressure in shower!!!
location is really nice, roof top is an added feature for where the property is located and the nice view.
Room was small but worked for 2 people
The location was wonderful! Not too far from the shops, restaurants and attractions, and it’s right in front of the beach! The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were advertised to be bigger and more grand. The room properly cleaned, found a lot of hair and crumbs, stains on the sheets and towels. Makeup towel had weird straw-like things on it. The sliding doors were so dirty and didn’t block out noise so it was pretty loud. Bummer that they charge you for water too. Overall- I think it lives up to its 3 star hotel status. Just too expensive for what you get.
Great location. Fantastic 24Hour staff. Clean and updated. Comfortable bed. Great shower water pressure. Great in room coffee.
Expensive but very comparable to other local hotels. Lots of stairs but know that Avalon was built on steep hills long ago.
Great location and good room. Lovely rooftop patio as well
Walls are on the thinner side and can hear a lot especially in the morning
Hotel holding our luggage at no cost for 2 hours, professional and courteous staff at check in/out. Bar inside the hotel was perfect.
Our room 202 had the most uncomfortable bed. I had lower back pain the following morning. I read their reviews when I got home and saw several comments about uncomfortable bed. The shower did not work well because in order to get hot water the lever had to be turned completely down- there was no in between level. The water came out of shower and there was a puddle when you stepped out. Only one chair in the room.
This the perfect location in Avalon. Walkable from the ferry, but not in the thick of things. Retro feel and well appointed rooms. Staff was very helpful.
If you prefer a big hotel room, this may not be for you. Rooms were cozy and comfortable, but not a lot of moving space.
Great, quiet and convenient location. Comfy bed and very clean. Nice to have little fridge. Amenities were nice; shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc.
There were a lot of stairs to get to our room on the top floor and no elevator. If we return, I’ll ask for a lower room. Also, would have been nice to have somewhere to sit in the room other than bed and one stool.
Food was very good
The street was very noisy while sitting out on balcony but realize you don’t have traffic control
Location
Not worth the value. Small room like the motel for 450 USD!
Close to everything. Nice and friendly staff
Staff was wonderful.
Everything was perfect.
Location
Lack of closet
I didn’t like that
Very clean and great location/proximity.
I would’ve preferred a regular door instead of the slide out door.
Good customer service!
Bed was way too soft that made my back sore before an ultra marathon race 50 mile. My wife and I, slowly, roll in the middle.
It was our first time at your beautiful hotel, and we’ve already booked our next stay. All of the staff members were friendly and helpful. We were always greeted with a smile and kind word when coming and going. The lobby, restaurant, and bar were decorated so cute for the Christmas holidays! Incredible food, delicious drinks! I highly recommend the French toast, bacon, and buffalo milk drink. Everything about our visit at this hotel was perfect! The room was cozy, and the location is A+. Thank you Bellanca Hotel for a wonderful pre-Christmas getaway. 🎄💗🎄
great location, beautiful facility. super friendly staff. great amenities, close to everything
my only complaint would be that I couldn't get the room we had dark enough. the sliding glass door and the window curtains didn't do a good job of blocking outside light from coming in. But it didn't stop me from sleeping, I would have been nice if to block more of the light though
I took my wife here for our anniversary, and we loved it! It was raining when we got here and rained the whole weekend, but we had an ocean view with a MASSIVE window that opened up, and a fireplace to lounge in front of. If you have the means, spring for the ocean view, it made all the difference. We came back to our room early each night, the last two nights (of 3) we even got dinner to go so we could lounge in front of the fireplace and enjoy the sunset from our room. We will be back!
It was well located and as stylishly cute. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was very cramped - no place to sit (not on the bed) or put our luggage. The heater was old and extremely loud. Unfortunately the restaurant also had sewage problems and closed down just after we sat down to eat.
The hotel’s location is at a quiet spot on the waterfront. The ocean view is beautiful but there was no view from our room. The staff is very nice. However our room was very small and cramped and dark and smelled musty. You can barely walk between the bed and the desk/furniture. If you are sitting in the one hair it is impossible. The shower floor had black moldy looking grout. The bathroom floor tile was worn and looked filthy. There is a large glass window between the shower and the bedroom. Every time someone uses the bathroom at night, the light shines into the bedroom and disturbs your sleep. There is no nightlight. We went up to the rooftop deck but it was very hot and there were not enough comfortable chairs or umbrellas to sit and enjoy the view. There are no hooks, armoire or closet to hang clothing.
Our first time to Catalina island and our experience staying at the Bellanca hotel was truly a highlight. Clean room, lovely views and a perfect location (just outside of the super busy central area, but close enough to easily access everything important). Complimentary (one speed) bikes also came in handy for local exploration and additional beach access. Highly recommended and we would certainly stay there again!
Great location on the west side of Avalon closest to the Casino. Clean and comfortable and had room 101 that has one of the best hotel views on the Island.
This is my 2nd time staying at Bellanca. The first time was in a studio suite which was great. This time we stayed in the luxury ocean view suite. The suite is large with a separate sitting area with a sofa and table with a beautiful view of the harbor. The bed which is in a separate room was comfortable. This room and location are 5 stars. I am giving the experience 4 stars because although the roof deck is wonderful, it needs more umbrellas for shade. There was only one small area that provided shade. The staff was friendly. I would definitely stay here again.
Great location with amazing view of the harbor and Avalon Casino. Centrally located for walking distance to shops, restaurants, Casino and Descanso Beach. The rooms with a private balcony are nice however slightly overpriced. They are clean, well maintained and the service is good. The hotel staff are friendly and accommodating
The hotel management and employees were really accommodating in every way. The food downstairs great, the location right on the boardwalk with a top deck view for sunning and watching the harbor below. Can’t beat that. My only complaint was that I am in my late 70s and their was no elevator to the 3rd floor. Climbing 3 fights of stairs for me was a difficult task.
Very lovely hotel I will definitely stay here again. Staff really nice really queen.
All hotels in the area similar. Great spot close to the harbor, great rooftop and friendly service, and would recommend. Things that were OK were the bed (2 of us are a combined 290 pounds and the bed drooped), shower (they should replace the old heads or clean them regularly) and air circulation (A/C did work well but you can tell there are circulation issues by looking at wall/ceiling bubbles).
Everything was easy
On the harbor
The small rooms were very nice and recently renovated. Very helpful staff. There is a small bar and restaurant on site with limited hours. The location is perfect: walk to everything in Avalon, yet not crowded or noisy. Did not like: the room door is just a glass sliding patio door (not very private). No bedside table lamps. Needs a second luggage rack.
Beautiful room and a great view.
Staff was very accommodating
