Huge room
So many steps to climb to get to Hotel!
Great location.
If was very pricey. Staff was seldom around when you needed them.
The building had intrinsic charm and our room was large
There was no mention of the long and difficult stairs to get there. The room was nice but the bed had a very thin, probably foam mattress which was very uncomfortable. We divided and I slept on the sofa/bed also not comfortable but better than the bed. Breakfast could not have been more minimal! Really pathetic for what we paid. Receptionist not available all hours. Think this “hotel” is run on a very small budget and it is disgraceful to charge so much for so little.
The hotel was clean, the room was spacious and we had a great view of Hydra from our room. There were also lots of hangers in the cupboards, which was useful.
I think it's important for people to know - and this was not obvious to the myself or the other six friends who stayed at the hotel - that it's up about 150 steps. While they have mules to bring your luggage up and down, this is a little restricting on a day-to-day basis and should be something the hotel proactively communicates upfront. Our bathroom was missing glass from the shower. You could see where the glass should have been hooked to the rail, but when I complained, the hotel tried to convince me this was a 'design feature'. Unfortunately this made for a very wet bathroom, which felt unnecessary when replacing the glass is a clear solution. The extra towels from the hotel didn't help the situation much. The matress was extremely thin - more like a topper than an actual matress and the pillows were rock hard. The air conditioning in the rooms were also located behind the curtains which meant you had to either keep the curtains open, or lift them up onto the window ledge to keep the air conditioning working well. They had not run the air con prior to our check in so it took a good few hours to cool the room down. There was also was very little space for hair and make up. The bathrom had one tiny ledge, mostly taken up by the sink, so I ended up using the kitchenette to store my products. It would have been nice to have a smaller mirror and space to do hair and make up. We had a little patio area, but it was right next to the communal breakfast area and the blind on the door did not close, so we rarely used it, except for drying swimwear and towels. Finally - the breakfast was not good. The melon slices were non-existent, there was no cereal and the eggs looked like they'd been sitting in the sun all morning. It was disappointing so we ate at the port each morning instead. The hotel was nice, but definitely not worth the very expensive price we paid and I would definitely have expected more.
Traditional Hydra Villa
Poor beds, terrible breakfast, location required climbing over 160 uneven stone stairs & mule service, which is utterly necessary, does not start till 6pm on hot days, making arrival extremely inconvenient and unknown in advance
The room was cosy and comfortable. However, the aircon blows on the bed which is not so good when you are sensitive to cold on the neck
Breakfast wasn't great though. I feel for the price we paid, I expected some more variety, better coffee and freshly baked eggs. All over overpriced.
Lovely staff & a nice location overlooking the port area. The rooms were clean & spacious.
Shower leaked into the bathroom making everything wet. Breakfast was fine but a bit uninspiring.
Loved our view from our bedroom a view to die for!
Nothing loved it all
Excellent hotel with very friendly staff. Comfortable beds and room. Very clean. Good breakfast. View from the hotel is lovely. Be aware that there are about 130 stairs from port to hotel! We had to climb them 3 or so times a day, and the first day with suitcases, unless you rent a donkey for 20euro.
Clean
Access extremely difficult, built on a very steep hill , 100 stairs to climb to reach the hotel , + 30 stairs to reach the room , very painful for bad knees . Isolated from the center of the island from shop and restaurant . The staff was not helpful , sarcastic and arrogant !
Great staff, lovely, well equipped room with a good view over Hydra
Beautiful rooms
The staff were not very helpful in organising the journey to and from hydra
Vi hade en fantastisk vistelse. Mysigt och fint hotell och vi fick bästa tänkbara service! Vi är så nöjda och kommer gärna igen!
The views, room amenities, staff helpfulness are all pluses to the Hotel Hydra. When I chose the hotel, I knew it was up a long path with many stairs. However, the views at the hotel and the surrounding sights made the walk worth it. The signage is good so it is difficult to get lost. The area around the hotel has an historic mansion and the family home of a famous artist. Both were excellent and interesting visits.
Nothing not to like. Its not for people who are not fit enough to climb. One small point, in our room, a small shelf under the bathroom sink would be helpful to place toiletries.
It was such a pleasure to stay at Hydra Hotel. It is a charming boutique hotel atop of a hill well furnished and decorated. The staff was very nice and the cleaning of the room just perfect ! The breakfast is served on a nice terrace very lovely.
The bathroom was a bit old. The bottle of water in the fridge are charged.
Great location great property
Everything is very nice and well curated. The design in my room was gorgeous and functional. Excellent Housekeeping service.
I would improve the breakfast adding more choices for hot beverages. The quality of the food is high and this would just add more prestigious to the service.
La stanza era spaziosa e molto confortevole. Curata nei dettagli. Staff estremamente cordiale, ci ha consigliato benissimo e si e’ preso cura di noi al 100%
Le scale 😂
The staff and rooms were really nice. And the view from my suite ofcourse
The steps we had to take to go to the hotel every time We tried to limit it to twice a day
Great stay at Hydra hotel. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, delicious breakfast and lovely staff - thank you Daphne and Anastasia ❤️. There are many steps (100 apparently) to get to the hotel from town so not recommended if mobility is an issue. Daphne assured us it got easier each time!
Süper manzara. Süper çalışanlar. Herşey mükemmeldi
A wonderful place to stay and Dafne and her associate could not have been more helpful.
A very nice property. Spare and elegant decor. Gorgeous views of the town and port from my spacious suite. Lots of steps up the hill, but that is part of the charm of Hydra. The staff is excellent: friendly, knowledgeable and engaging.
Nettes kleines Hotel auf Hydra, wenn man bereit ist 100 Stufen zu steigen. Gepäck wird im Hafen via Maulieren transportiert.
It was a fabulous location, albeit with lots of steps but then that’s the nature of hydra! We had the room with the balcony that overlook the harbour which was absolutely beautiful. Breakfasts were lovely as well saved in a lovely terrace.
Air-conditioning bedroom was quite noisy and the steps up were a bit of a killer but, as I said, that’s just the nature of the island!
Staff, breakfast, closet space, separate bedrooms, room service.
Water pressure, mattress, very small shower, lot of steep stairs(mules required to carry luggage to and from the hotel to the port).
It was an amazingly relaxing stay. The views are fantastic and the room is excellent.
Fabulous staff ; very generous rooms, excellent breakfast.
80 steps up to the hotel 😆
Great view and wonderful staff
Quite climb to get there, but was part of the charm
The staff at Hydra hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful. I was in room 201 with spectacular corner views of the port and was right next to the breakfast area with its own outdoor area. Unless you are carrying a light weight bag, just plan on hiring the donkey transportation to the hotel. I carried my heavy bad myself, having not understood how many steps there actually were and would not recommend it! I highly recommend Hydra Hotel for its kind staff, beautiful aesthetics, and insane views!
We fell in love with the island and this charming boutique hotel. The view from the bed in the Junior Suite was insanely beautiful. The staff, especially the hostesses, was very friendly and helpful (extra grateful for the recommendations and care of Dafni). The breakfast was fine! The mattresses are hard, we liked it, but it comes to preference.
Many people went before us: there were a lot of stairs. The first climb with our luggage was challenging, but climbing them without luggage is okay. Also: the hotel is on an island, which means ferries can get cancelled due to the weather conditions. Consider booking insurance. The hotel was extremely helpful and caring to keep us updated when our ferries got cancelled. Would recommend!
One of the most wonderful hotels we have ever stayed in. Thanks Dafini and team
One of the most wonderful hotels we have ever stayed in. Beautiful and perfect in every way. There was a ferry strike so we stayed longer! Amazing and enormous breakfast, wonderful location and excellent staff. Very clean and we would stay here again for sure
Location is beautiful - very easy to get to but peaceful and quiet. Room very comfortable and the staff were incredible, so friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Dafni! We loved our stay.
Quiet, friendly, clean and comfortable
I loved the place and it was unique but not worth the 124 steps up and down for anything you want to do. It was exhausting and there wasnt anything available without going into the town
Location and friendliness of staff.
Shower stall could be improved.
Nice elegant rooms, with all the necessary toiletries. Unique big windows and very hospitable staff
Not good sound insulation, unfortunately.
Dafni on reception is a true professional and delivers an exceptional and friendly service.
Great hotel with warm and welcoming staff
Nice, clean and comfortable room The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Nothing
Very nice hotel in a beautiful town on an amazing island. Everything you need is here.
A bit more vegetable choice for breakfast would be nice ;)
Our room was spacious, clean and had a great view of the town up the hill. The shared terrace/breakfast area is a nice bonus. The breakfast selection was small but very good; it could have had more variety day to day. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and were very helpful with local information, reservations, etc. I enjoyed visiting the Lazaros Koundouriotis Historical Mansion, which is just a few doors up the street from the hotel.
The largest detriment of the property is the 170+ stair steps from the harbor up to our second (actually third) floor room. We are in our sixties, in pretty good shape (except for our knees!), and did this twice a day for three+ days. It did get easier (haha) and I think I gained some muscle in my legs. Definitely pay for the mule to haul your luggage (the hotel will arrange for this, which should be slightly less expensive than hiring one yourself)!
There are a lot of stairs to get to the property, so it may not be suitable for everyone
Best views in Hydra. Friendly staff. Peaceful location.
There’s a major disconnect between the prices charged and the offering in question. Be aware and ready for the c.130 steps up.
Pleasant and attentive staff. Great breakfast. Good views of the town and harbour. Comfortable beds. Airconditioned rooms. Traditional building.
The location may be a challenge for those who are unfit or suffer from the summer heat. It is a good 165 steep steps up from the centre of town.
The area is safe and the rooms were clean
The location - its located up ~120 flights of steep steps. This should be made more evident prior to booking. The building is a little dilapidated. We had a lot of water enter the rooms during rain. The breakfast was not made in the hotel and was quite low quality
I liked the staff they were super friendly like a family Hotel was small and quiet and minimal Breakfast was perfect Rooms were great could do with a few more touches ie a stool and table to do hair and make up one reaches an age where one needs to sit and not stand
Nothing
Central but with lots of stairs, very friendly, large rooms, no extra facilities but it had exactly what we needed
An espresso machine either in the room or at breakfast, wifi was on my bedside table. Otherwise its a fantastic option and i would stay there again.
Small boutique style accommodation - lovely staff and aesthetically pleasing. Nice buffer breakfast .Be warned you do need to climb the stairs of Hydra to get to the hotel and there are also stairs up to the hotel door and verandah where breakfast is served so not suited for anyone with mobility issues
Dafni was the best very welcoming and very professional!
the staff, my room was heading to a patio which was nice
I felt the smoke smell sometimes, and the noise of the washing machine one night, but i told that to the staff and the passed the information and apologized
An excellent place to stay for Hydra. Quiet, safe and spacious.
Amazing view of the port and the city. Clean spacious room and friendly staff
Not recommended for someone who is not up to the climb, the hotel, situated some distance up from the harbor, was wonderful for us. The location made the stay quieter, and the view lovelier. Mule transport (15 euros each way) made getting luggage in and out reasonably painless. The rooms were beautiful. We are not given to relaxing in hotel rooms much, but the wonderful ambience made us very happy to hang out there. The breakfast was great and the staff vary helpful.

Loved the quietness of the island which made sleeping excellent. We had a room with a balcony (not many here) and enjoyed sitting, looking over the harbour and enjoying a glass or two of wine. The breakfast was served in a quaint dining area and had a great selection of items to eat. Will definitely come back here again.
Property was very new and well kept and room was large. Staff was friendly but only when there, which was not after 6 pm. It was quite expensive, so I expected a higher level of service. Small things like drinking water and expresso coffee were extra.
Everything was fine
Beautiful property with amazing views- it can be a bit tricky to find up the winding stair path, but absolutely worth it. Lovely staff
All thinks were perfect, the breakfast is amazing.
Overpriced
I chose to celebrate my birthday at this place but unfortunately I had the worst experience. The only ask I had was for the hotel to reserve a restaurant, which they managed to screw up. The front desk was useless. I would choose the Four Seasons in hindsight.
Wonderful views. Beautiful rooms. Exceptional breakfasts. Great staff.. If only the town or the hotel could fix the dangerous stairs.
Unfortunately, the property can only be reached by climbing about 100+ very dangerous public stairs. The stairs are steep, uneven, frightening and there are no handrails. We are 77 years old and we’re so fearful of the stairs that we stayed in our room all day until we risked them to go to dinner. So we strongly advise senior citizens and anyone with mobility issues to avoid this hotel until handrails are installed. Even the hotel itself needs handrails.
Really lovely hotel. Great location and beautiful view!
For 15 Euros get a donkey take your luggage to hotel the are alot of steps up.
The ambience
The staff were friendly especially reception and breakfast service. Great location with everything provided.
The steps up to the hotel. Donkeys took our luggage up and we were grateful they did.
Staff were superb. Really helpful and friendly from the date of booking to departure. Hotel was quaint and idyllic set around half way up the hill out of Hydra Port. Lovely room with self-catering facilities if needed.
For some, the 5-min windy stairs up through the town to the hotel may be difficult to manage. The hotel did arrange a porter and donkey to carry our cases up and we chose to carry them back down (age 30, moderately active).
the staff were helpful.
we thought this hotel was massively overpriced for what was a tired room with a tiny old bathroom, curtains that didn’t meet and a decrepit old kitchenette thing. no view. there was also no free transfer and as it is located high up meant you needed to pay someone to carry your luggage up steep steps. the breakfast was also underwhelming.
Quite a great location with a nice view to town, breakfast was simply amazing. And the staff was super nice and very pro active. When due to a rainy day the terrace was unavailable for breakfast they prepared a breakfast tray for us, which was plenty and high variety of selection.
Hard to call out any negative remark. Maybe the only thing is that for breakfast only filtered coffee was served and any other other type of coffee was available for an additional price. With such a great service and high quality of breakfast this was a little bit of a let down.
View incredible and had a balcony. Many hotels did not. V friendly helpful staff who recommended great restaurants
Tired facilities for the price. Needs a makeover. Especially bathroom.
Quite disappointed, although the room was big (as it was a suite) supposedly sea view (I would say partially sea view actually), and a ridiculously old and small bathroom. Many part needs to be renovated (like electricity). Not even some hooks to hang the towels. For the price (in August it's more than 600 euros), I find it really outreageous. Disappointing breakfast as well (start at 8.30am). All in all cannot understand the excellent reviews (maybe the rooms were less expensive) Also reception closed from 9pm.
