Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at what can only be described as a proper pub inn! We met some lovely people including the staff, who were very accommodating & helpful.
The rooms beware on the lower floor have quite the fausty smell, and appear to have a bit of a damp problem, but we were kindly moved to another room. The rooms are also pretty basic & tired & in need of a little renovation I feel. The rooms were cleaned though & it was nice to have waters provided, so thank you. The breakfast was palatable also, albeit a little greasy. Unfortunately my partners avocado on toast was basically inedible! Tinned avocado/guacamole & a really runny watery egg just to add to it. Sorry, but not great & should be a hard one to mess up!
Obviously the location is wonderful. We had a room with a view of the loch and highly recommend this as we particularly enjoyed watching the mist/rain come in and then everything brightening up again. The room was very comfortable and clean, with tea/coffee making facilities. The staff were exceptional - nothing was too much trouble and they were all friendly and efficient. A particular massive thank you to the Manager, David, who seemed to be everywhere, doing everything and yet ready to drop everything in order to assist us - you really made our stay even better (which was hard to do as it was fantastic already!)
The breakfast was very good - a great variety of things on offer and everything was well cooked. However, sadly the evening meals could have been a bit better. There was nothing wrong with them as such, and it's hard to pinpoint but they just didn't seem to hit the 'excellent' mark.
The Village Inn is a lovely old inn with a beautiful view over Loch Long. It was charmingly decorated to celebrate autumn and very cosy with an open fire. The staff were very friendly, making our stay welcoming. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. The room was generous and quiet, behind the pub and restaurant, Plenty of parking, close to the accommodation.
As it was raining quite a deal, there was no internal access to the main building. Just a little thing.
Going through the main door and turning right into the reception area, you encounter a quirky little room with a log burner and a cosy atmosphere. The room we had been given was a fair size and provided everything you need for the night. It was warm and the bed comfortable so we did have a good nights sleep. Shower was very powerful so no complaints there
Going through the main dining room to get to your room for the night and the smell through the door up the stairs was not pleasant. TV had no instructions so we had to go and ask. Not that TV is a priority whilst on holiday for us but there are times it is nice to pour yourself a cup of tea and relax watching TV before you go down for your meal. We learnt once on and working that you only had 4 channels available. Not a deal breaker but poor in this day and age and certainly after we had stayed in another 8 B&Bs before this one on our NC500 holiday. Whilst the bathroom was adequate I didn't, at the price we were paying, expect to see hardboard as a side bath panel with the sticky label still in situ!. Now comes our evening meal. Sorry but for a fish pie at £21.50 it was an overpriced pot of mash where I couldn't decide what I was eating ?Salmon or some other fish, which by the way was dry. Vegetables were that Al Dente that our forks could hardly go through the carrots. I don't mind veg on the raw side but I'd say the chef had showed the veg the pan he was going to cook them in then plonked them on our plates. As I say compared to some fabulous places we had stayed in on our trip the food quality was the poorest we'd had en route. I rarely in all our years of holidays we've had, give negative results but sadly I feel I must do so here. You're paying for where it is. Honestly I'd say give Loch Lomond a miss if you can travel a little further and find somewhere else. How this place gets a 5 * review on Trip Advisor is beyond us and personally I think something 'fishy' is going on there between the few odd B&Bs close by.
Very comfortable king sized bed. Excellent shower and quality soaps and body moisturizer.
The breakfast was average.
Brilliant staff. Worked tirelessly to make our stay a joy.
Idyllische Lage, leckeres Essen , freundliches Personal
Had a good feel about it
It was centrally located
It was perfect no complaints
Nichts
Very good staff and food was above average
Tired facilities. Specifically, one rotting window and another that after opening it could not close or.
Beautiful location, very clean,friendly staff.
The room toilet didn't flush when we arrived, this problem should have been sorted before customers stayed in this room. The plumber came the next day to fix it , but when we left after 2 days there was still a problem.
They had a quaint little bar that served some excellent food. The view of the loc was magnificent and parking was easy.
We chose not to take advantage of breakfast because it was vastly overpriced from our perspective. Evidently there was a leak from the bathroom of one of our party members.
Food was excellent, breakfast and evening meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room nice and cosy with a lovely view.
It's a dog friendly place but not suitable for everyone.
Excellent, helpful and friendly staff.
Food was disappointing. There were no specials on the menu as they had run out. No fish other than fish and chips. Breakfast not a great choice if you didn’t want a cooked breakfast.
Food and would have liked fresh milk in the bedrooms.
This is a charming pub in a lovely location. Our room was pleasant enough, and perfectly clean.
The restaurant area is in dire need of either a deep clean or full renovation. It just all feels very grubby. The real failing, though, was the quality of the food. We both had a steak pie, which was mostly pastry with very little filling, and a very apologetic vegetable offering, overcooked and minimal. Not even enough chips for the meal to fill. Breakfast, though, was worse. ‘Unpalatable’ wouldn’t cover it. Greasy, tasteless, colourless. The buffet breakfast consisted of just tiny cereal packs and tough pastries., nothing else, nothing fresh, no fruit. Absolutely terrible.
Situated on side of a loch. Very spacious room with a huge bed.
It was clean and tidy but could do with a refresh.
Good food, location, staff were friendly
Room in need of a refurb, eg. window frames tatty inside, expensive for what it was. Noise from other rooms
Mooie lokatie en een gezellig restaurant
Was a great place to step by for one night, cozy and comfortable, thanks to the owner to welcome us with our dog. We had a great dinner with local food and drinks. Breakfast was good. Personal was really welcoming. Great place to stay.
All was great. Only the bad was not big one, approx 140cm.
Thw location was super, but our room was a dungeon down in the basement. Only vuew was out the tiny window in the loo.
Was very expensive for a dank, dark room. The linen was all musty and reeked, staff had to chnage it over for us. Felt like room hadnt been used in ages. Was v expensive for a dingy family room, which didnt even include breakfast.
Reasonable location but not the best views of Loch Lomond. The staff were all very friendly. The room was clean and quiet with a secluded outside area.
For the price paid i would have expected breakfast to be included. The outside area was untidy. There were insufficient curtains therefore too much light was being let into the room at night.
We had a wonderful room with large beds, a lovely view and a bath. The building is very romantic.
The toilet didn't work when we arrived.
This quaint inn is located in a lovely area with amazing views. The room was relatively comfortable for three people. The breakfast was very good. Beds were comfy. The complementary teas, coffees and snacks were very welcome.
The room was a bit small and stuffy considering 3 people were staying. Opening the window was not an option due to the numerous midges around. We all woke up with stuffed noses and felt very hot during the night.
The hotel was in a beautiful location and easy to get to. There were also rooms that didn't require going upstairs. Dinner was very good and there was a bar open later as well.
Great food evening meal and breakfast were exceptional, great drink selection, comfortable and clean room. Great staff and service throughout.
I couldn’t fault anything!
Room was very comfortable and clean and had everything we needed.
N/A as there wasn’t anything we didn’t like about the property.
The room, the view and location
Slightly rough and tatty downstairs
Pretty Location and early Check-in arranged. Breakfast plentiful
Dining Room needs updating
The bed and the location and friendly staff
We was served a basic meal of Fish & Chips which was grossly overcooked and inedible which should never have left their kitchen Which we had to send nack
The location was amazing and you could see that at one time the old part of the building had been lovely when it was cared for. The Village Inn has the potential to be amazing with some investment and foresight. At present it seems as though it's being deliberately run down. Staff do too much multi-tasking which is not good for them or the establishment.
There was a terrible smell of damp in the more 'modern' part of the building that housed some bedrooms and it seemed to cling to your clothes. The noise in the bedrooms from other rooms made you feel like you were sharing with strangers! The food was poor quality and the cooked breakfasts were swimming in grease so inedible. Bar service was poor as you often had to go in search of a staff member to serve you which meant it wasn't well used at all by guests and therefore had no atmosphere. This was a pity as there was an excellent selection of whiskies.
Fantastic location the room had a great view.
I think it was quite expensive but I suppose that's because they have little competition.
The most authentic Scotish hostpitality, quite, very clean and cozy room.

Good breakfast! Our staff very kind and helpful!
Belle chambre et pub sympa
Nice restaurant and pub and view from the lakeside. Small village just outside of the Loch Lomond buzz. Very good breakfast, and special mention for Sam for the kind service!
It is an old building with a nice atmosphere. Downside is that you hear your upstairs neighbours walking around quite well.
The service was very slow almost non-existent. The bar area was style over substance. Non of the beer pulls worked! The beer they did have on was dreadful. Sleep was virtually zero as the room was too hot. I suspect it was directly over the kitchen. I couldn't open the windows due to noise from the extractor. Overall very poor value for money. Room rate is based purely on location & not for the quality of the accommodation. I wouldn't stay again.
Bel emplacement au bord du lac
Chambre un peu petite et vieillotte
Ligging en sfeer
Kamer was vrij klein en benauwd. Kon niet genoeg vrrlucht worden.
lovely inn with nice pub and restaurant, really authentic pub vibe! Great vieuws from the Beergarten onto the Loch.
The room for very hit during the night, so don't forget to open up a window before you go to sleep!
Great food, lovely hotel/inn.
Was a bit bothered by the state of the wooden furniture outside, especially some of the large nails sricking up out of some of the rotten seats.
Petit village sur le Loch Lomond. Chambre spacieuse.
La situació i el paissatge. Habitació àmplia.
Beautiful location and nice first impression of rustic charm. Staff were pleasant and helpful. They appeared short staffed especially in dining room at dinner. Overall a pleasant stay. Freshly cooked breakfast but a supply of fruit/yoghurts or porridge would have added to the choices.
Whilst charming, the place felt like it needed refreshing. Window frames and some carpets and Paintwork There are modern bathrooms which I appreciated. Squeaky floorboards in bedroom were annoying if anyone needed the loo during the night.
Leuke locatie, echt authentiek.
Room was large and well appointed. Bed was really excellent. Bar was great. Breakfast excellent too.
Dinner was really disappointing. Quality was very average and prices were very high. EG Piece of fish with no accompanying vegetables or salad was GBP25.
Cute old fashion pub-like small property. Right across from Loch Lomand so the setting is beautiful.
Restaurant was ok. Not enough help so servers weren’t able to keep up with all the tables. Food was so so too.
Located on a beautiful spot with fantastic views over the loch and the surrounding mountains. The very cosy pub and good food.
It was all very nice
Aangenaam en vriendelijk personeel. Gezellig restaurant en zeer mooie locatie
Fantastic staff. Rooms clean and comfortable. Good selection of local beer. Breakfast plentiful.
Evening meal was slightly disappointing. Quite bland and small portion for the price.
Excellent location and friendly staff
Nothing
Lovely location on the Loch with great view across to the mountains.
Schöne Garten, direkt am See.
Lovely hotel which had a real Scottish feel to it! Our room was very clean and tidy. In particular, I liked the room decor. The cookies and chocolate bars were a nice treat after dinner, too. Lovely view of Loch long from our window !
A little pricey!
Great location, friendly staff
The room got very hot at night, it would have been great with a bigger fan or air conditioning
De kamer was okay
Het eten en omgeving
Great location.
Too much noise in the evening and the breakfast wasn’t not edible. The tattie scones were swimming in fat. They are supposed to be cooked dry, the link sausages and the bacon were not fully cooked. A poor meal considering we paid another £29 for the privilege!! That meal alone would stop us from returning. Find a new chef and include breakfast in the room. It was expensive enough.
The hotel was lovely, clean and the veiws exeptional
Nothing in to entertain guests at the weekend

Schade drum. Daher nur für max. 1 Nacht zu empfehlen.
Great experience lovely place and breath taking scenery Staff friendly and helpful

Lovely location
Continental breakfast options were poor and had been out all night since we'd been sat having dinner
The beautiful location. The room was quite small but nicely put together. The bar was well stocked with some very fine whiskey.. The staff were lovely.
Unfortunately the food was very average. Hunters chicken came in a dish which I think meant it was premade and reheated. It was very rubbery and dry. The fish and chips were small and again it tasted like it had been precooked and warmed up. The batter was flat and all a bit over cooked. For £20 it just wasn't good enough.
The location and view were lovely, the accommodation was just ok.
The bed was so uncomfortable and small. Staff were moody Food was atrocious
Super location, our room was spacious with a great view over the loch. Shower over the bath was excellent. Staff were helpful, but possibly lacking experience and training in some cases.
Evening meal was adequate, nothing more, we were not offered the specials we found out had been available. There was a large dinner party which the staff struggled to cope with along with the bar area. Cooked breakfast in the morning was shocking. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, as did the lady sat next to us. Something was very wrong with this dish - bacon was vile - and none of us ate our food. The table next to us asked for a boiled egg for their child, the server came back from the kitchen saying the cook said no, that is not on the menu. A poached egg was provided as an alternate, but boiled eggs are hardly haute cuisine or challenging for a competent cook. Nothing wrong with the cereals and pastries available, but I did not see anyone finish their cooked food.
Maybe if after paying only a few days before we hadnt had to turn up to find the hotel completely shut down under renovation and then had to find somewhere else to stay for 6 people I might have had better things to say about it.
Lovely location, stunning views , good food
Drink prices, hotel a bit dated and in need of an upgrade.
Great place for an overnight stay, tasty grub, lovely, eclectic, traditional bar and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The room was as described and comfortable. We were lucky enough to stay on an evening when folk music was on and it was great to be in a roomful of happy and friendly people. We spent most of our time hiking in the beautiful nearby mountains and enjoying the stunning local scenery around Lochs Lomond and Long. We left wanting to go back.
Everything was great.
The staff was super friendly, the room was clean and had everything we needed (even little biscuits and chocolates!). The view of the lake right across was beautiful. Food was good as well, we had dinner and breakfast there. It’s a cute little place in a quiet neighborhood with a character, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you!😊
The floor in the room was creepy and we were worried we’d wake someone up as we usually get up early. I guess it’s just because the building itself is a bit old and might need some patching here and there.
The room was great with a fantastic view over Loch Long. Staff were friendly and engaging. There was plenty of space outside to have a evening drink and the dining facilities were very good. The food (evening meal and breakfast were generously proportioned and good value.
Genuinely liked everything and wish we could have stayed longer.
Location, history, drinks choice
Food was ok, could have been better
Nice big comfortable bed. Large bath which was great and the shower was good.
Service in the dining room was atrocious, total lack of sufficient staff, one girl trying to do everything and doing it very slowly. Glasses not collected from outside tables, still all there the next morning, again lack of staff. Dining room could do with a refurb, old and tired and somewhat tacky with all the plastic/artificial flowers. Food very expensive and not good at all.
Great room for us and the dog plenty of space
A little untidy out side the room (number 6) with some rubbish and broken railings
A great location on the loch
Na
Good village pub but understaffed.
There was no white wine and at dinner there were no mussels, no smoked salmon and no sea bass. Staff rushed off their feet. They did their best but they were sooo busy. One person to serve the whole dining room for breakfast.
The two hardworking, possibly overworked staff.
Room with virtually no storage space, poorly fitted shower screen leading to a soaking floor, and insufficient towels. Food was not good, and the breakfast presentation was poor.
Spacious, characterful and clean bed and bathroom. Body lotion and tissues provided. Tunnock's goodies in the room and tattie scones at breakfast were highlights!
Several items amiss in bedroom: one bedside light did not work (and bulb had been removed); mini fridge appeared to be on (with light) but was not at all cool so turned it off to avoid the quiet hum. Toilet roll holder was loose and wobbly. The only coffee in the room was decaff (even on second day, after room had been serviced again). Biscuits etc were good but there were no saucers or little plates in room, so nothing to eat them off. Breakfast was good overall but there were no additional knives to spread butter (either on table or at the front buffet- one was provided when requested). Toffee was the only flavour of yoghurt available on the second morning and there was no fruit on offer. We were prevented from going to sleep by the live music in the pub on the Saturday night so recommend avoiding if you like to sleep before 11pm! At check-in, was asked when I booked. Slightly odd question and I offered my booking reference but did not feel particularly welcomed. On handing key back, I was bid farewell but not asked if "everything was okay" so feedback was not encouraged.
Everything, it was the perfect break in a beautiful setting, great food, and friendly welcoming staff.
Nothing
Lovely place to stay and rest. Amazing people working here and taking care of guests. Very welcoming atmosphere, comfortable room, charming outside area.
There’s nothing to add here.
Hot Scottish Breakfast was very good
