Staff were amazing
Nothing
All aspects of the hotel were pleasing. The staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were better than expected.
The only irritations were the selfish parking by some other guests taking up more than one space and on a couple of nights there was noise from motorcycles using the road in front of the hotel for speed runs.
Bed took up to much room in the bedroom, but very comfortable. No sockets at the sides of the bed. Breakfast good, reasonable choice of food, service very good. Evening meal on first night was very good and tasty. Meal on second night not so, the mains lamb we had was very tough and the greens were under cooked, but the starter and sweet very nice. Drink prices at the bar were very reasonable.
Paignton itself, very run down, not much to do or see for our age group. Enjoyed our stay at the hotel, but will not be visiting Paignton again.
Close to beach and amenities Clean and comfortable Great evening entertainment
Mattress was a bit uncomfortable this time
Location and the bar 🍸
Pool was too cold and looking tired
Excellent location overlooking the pier. Breakfast choice was very good. Great choice of rooms to relax in, or outside on a warm evening. Felt very at home.
No real problems . Unavailability of draught beers at the time was my only quibble.
Location
I want to start by saying that this property’s listing on Booking.com is misleading. While the hotel lists various facilities, you are charged extra for almost everything once you arrive—including the swimming pool and pets. As dog owners, we were charged an extra £15 per night, yet there were no dog waste bins anywhere around the hotel grounds. The breakfast was also very disappointing: they use powdered scrambled eggs, and everything is cooked well in advance and left sitting under heat lamps.
The room overlooked a car park The was basic amenities misis n form the room no safe no slippers no toothpaste no tissues no cotton buds no soap Everything was dingy and dirty
It was so old and dingy and dirty No way was this a 3 star It’s 2 star AT BEST
The location and staff make this hotel, breakfast was good and nice and hot.
Beds very soft, bath was quite high to step into for shower and water temperature not consistent. Disappointed couldn't get afternoon tea as needs notice but doesn't say that on menus
Very good location All staffs are so kind and Breakfast and dinner are delicious and good selection. Spa facilities are excellent.
Noisy karaoke party every night until 10:30pm
Clean, comfortable hotel near the beach. Quiet with parking options. Excellent served breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable beds. We would love to come back.
It was very hot during our stay, the room needed more ventilation.
Sea views Pool available Excellent food Friendly staff
No complaints
location staff facilities excellent
less people in pool sauna
The location and sea views were lovely
The restaraunt closed a bit early, at 7:45 pm
Very reasonable price .very nice staff .great.facilities and lively grounds. Really nice comfortable place to stay. I look forward to returning soon .thanks.
I can think of nothing I didn't like about my stay.
We loved the atmoshpere and readiness to help or solve problems. The food was decent and tasty, with varieties.
I would scale the wellness facilities with a jacuzzi
Very spacious room and bathroom.
I loved the period character of the property and really enjoyed learning about its history. I couldn’t help wondering how amazing it must have been to stay here during the heyday of the British Riviera. The location is also ideal, particularly if you’re planning to spend time at the beach or visit the pier. As I was travelling solo, I stayed in a single room, which was perfect for my two-night stay. It had everything I needed with a good sized en-suite. And the staff were simply amazing, from reception through to the breakfast team. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, which made the stay feel even more special.
The cooked English breakfast looked very good if that’s how you like to start your day, and I did enjoy the poached egg. However, I was less impressed with the continental breakfast buffet. I would have appreciated a little more choice, particularly when it came to fresh fruit and bread options beyond the usual sliced loaves. I wouldn’t have added the breakfast option to my booking had I known this. That said, the breakfast staff were exceptionally attentive which I really appreciated. Their professionalism, attentiveness and willingness to make things right for every guest made a very positive impression. One thing that did affect my stay was the cleanliness of the bathroom. One of the bathroom walls was noticeably dusty, which was particularly uncomfortable for me as someone who is allergic to dust. I found myself sneezing in the bathroom and even in bed, as the bathroom was directly opposite the bed, despite keeping the door closed. I mentioned this to the housekeeping staff, who were very nice and understanding about it. Unfortunately, it seemed to have been overlooked when my room was cleaned, so I ended up wiping the wall myself as best I could without a cloth. I appreciate that it’s easy for small details to be missed when working through a routine, but I do think particular attention should be paid when a guest has specifically flagged a cleanliness issue. In this case, it would have made a real difference to my comfort during the stay.
The food the staff we got engaged there as well
Nothing
Like the location
Drinks in the bar are really pricey
Lovely old hotel with a very nice ambience/ vibe. Ample free car parking on site. Staff very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection to suit all tastes. Very nice indoor swimming pool. We didn't use any of the other spa facilities. Our 4th time staying here, enough said.
Having to pay extra £10 to use the swimming pool. Lovely characterful hotel, but starting to show signs of needing some investment and a little TLC in some areas.
Great
We stayed at the Palace for one night and were very impressed with the Staff and the room where we stayed I would like to say that the Bar Manager and Restaurant Manager were very polite and helpful. We really enjoyed the breakfast which was very enjoyable and well cooked. The room were delightful and comfortable. I will stay there again in the future, and recommend this Hotel to anyone thinking of staying in this area.
I think the Tea and coffee could be improved, by serving pots of Tea and coffee and not the machines used for the Tea and Coffee because it wasn't hot enough.
Excellent value for money, very friendly and helpful staff, great room, decent size and facilities. And plenty of free parking spaces.
NA
Good location. Food Wes great.
location staff helpful breakfast good
bathroom was very dirty hairs on floor dust on tiles bath mat mouldy paper on walls damaged needs a general deep clean
We did not request a breakfast but had a wonderful afternoon tea and cream scones.
Bedroom window was unable to open.
A nice well maintained characterful property
Na
Hotel was okay, the breakfast was nice, the location was good not far from the beach and other facilities and quite close to the harbour, where there were some nice restaurants and you could get the boat/ferries to other areas.
There were two staff who showed us curtesy and were very polite, the other staff not so much. I didn't like the way the payments where taken on a two tire system, the restaurant and the reception need to liaise with each other, I was humiliated one night as we decided to have an evening meal in the restaurant, I thought it must be charged to the room and as we left a member of staff come after us, I had already spoke to the receptionist and asked her what happens she told me it would be charged to the room, but this staff member from the restaurant embarrassed me in front of other hotel residents, I was quite upset. The hotel need to inform people about the processes and communicate with customers regarding information as to what is happening in the day to day running of the hotel and what's on. There were false information of a sizzling steak offer that should of been available Monday to Saturday , we asked twice and where told it wasn't on. The entertainment was okay on some nights. The rooms were very warm and we only had a small fan. Has the hotel not thought about air conditioning? They were changing over a new system in the bar with the pumps and the amount of times it didn't work was beyond me, I would of got the company back to correct it myself. I don't think I will be returning to stay again unfortunately.
Our second time staying at this venue. They gave us a beautiful room overlooking the sea. It was truly wonderful. Clean, laid out well. I like that this place has character. It’s not like the modern hotels further along but also doesn’t feel like you’re staying in a prison.
It really was just right for us. I’m working mum and went with a kid.
Rooms are a little dated, but very clean. Breakfast was very good.
Cooked breakfast.
Pool was well maintained with lovely views and comfortable chairs. Ocean views wonderful. Brand new bathroom with soaker tub.
Furniture is getting a little worn and the carpet it long overdue for replace to
Great hotel
Excellent staff
The staff was really helpful and friendly
friendly staff
Would be good to have air con
We have stayed at the palace many times and it’s a wonderful place to stay i would recommend it to everyone
The location was good The reception area was nice and well presented . The receptionist was very welcoming . Many spaces for car parking. The staffs are very helpful and friendly. Restaurant is good.
The room was very hot even there’s a table fan . Room would benefit from upgrading and consider AC in the rooms.
Easy parking. Restaurant and bar on site. Large facility. Interesting and unique history. Creator of singer sewing machine created this house as his personal home.
The beds are extremely uncomfortable. Twin beds joined together by a hinge that wouldn’t latch, which causes a person to slip between the mattresses. Very hot in the room. A small fan, which could barely stand because the plastic base cracked and couldn’t hold the weight. Itchy stiff sheets. Good service is wonky. They have more than enough tables to seat over a hundred, but they keep reserved on all tables and I had to make a fuss to get seated by a window.
The location was excellent. Close by the shops and flat in regards to walking. All meals were really good. Staff worked extremely hard especially during the busy times eg coach party. From the moment we arrived to when we left the staff were all friendly and willing to help.
Nothing.
Breakfast was very good. Got an upgrade on the room which was excellent.
Nothing
Sea view was anazing Breakfast was very good Friendly staff
No fridge, iron or ironing board in room Room decor needs a retouch
Hi, we had a very nice stay. Great location of paignton town it's self, staff we found were really helpful and nice. The room we stay in, is a bit dated in decor, but we love that. The bed it's self was very comfortable. Really clean room. Plenty of places to sit down inside and out to relax and also parking in grounds car park is pretty to good. Over all i would stay he again.
The only thing we found was the breakfast, continental was find but cooked breakfast was not best quality for the price.
Excellent breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. Brilliant location for the beach and other activities.
Room was rather warm in the very hot weather. The provided fan did help to maintain a more comfortable temperature.
Hotel was clean, staff were attentive and helpful. Breakfast was excellent
The hotel was excellent in every way, from the moment we arrived and until we left
Nothing
Everything was outdated need a refresh. Couldn't sleep as was too hot as towel radiator was left on and couldn't switch off.
Excellent location for the beach , staff was fantastic , food was excellent also , deffo recommend this hotel , rooms was spotless and very comfortable
Convenient location for our stay with plenty of parking.
We stayed during a hot spell. The room was uncomfortably hot day and night. No a/c and window didn’t open more than a few inches. No complimentary water in the room.
Stunning location with a perfect view
Very dated/tired. Tiles broken in bathroom and toilet roll holder loose. Rip in duvet cover
This is the second time I have stayed at the Palace hotel and I have found the hotel to be excellent on both occasions. I like the ease of being able to find the location and the onsite parking. It is a great location when visiting the area and if you like beaches it is just across the road. The staff are very friendly and helpful and always make you feel welcome. Plus as a bonus it offers excellent value for money. Highly recommended.
Constantly being told that you had run out of certain meals which were on the menu. I believe that this is unsatisfactory for a hotel of this size and is the reason that we will not be returning in the near future.
Nær strand og jernbanestasjon
Dårlige hotelfasiliteter, Elendig frokost. Alt kjøtt som ble servert til middag var kokt sønder og sammen. Rommene var dårlig utstyrt og badene utrolig umoderne og upraktiske
Reading some mixed reviews we weren't sure what to expect. The first thing we noticed was how clean everywhere was and how friendly and helpful the staff were. We only stayed for 2 nights but the menus changed daily with tasty vegetarian options. I booked it as part of an 80th birthday present for my husband and chose half board. Unlike many hotels we have stayed in this entitled us to the full 3 course menu enjoyed by everyone and not a separate set menu, which impressed us. The breakfast was also varied and delicious. Our room was large with lovely views over the garden and out to sea. Lunch or drinks in the garden was very peaceful and the side salad was one of the best I have eaten with a variety of fruit, nuts and leaves with a honey dressing. It was delicious! We throughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning, hopefully before too long.
The location of the hotel and the room overlooking the sea.Lovely clean garden well maintained.
All good
The hotel itself was nice and the location was good. The staff were friendly
The bed was really uncomfortable Dinner was disappointing as they had run out of most options
Good location
Tables to close together in restaurant
I was pleased with my stay it is great to be able to relax and swim in the pool. Breakfast was good. Sea view rooms available and was able to see some of the sunrise from room. Ample car parking and I noticed that there were good disabled facilities which as I'm getting older helped with moving cases and there is a lift to all floors. The staff were polite and helpful.
Location
NA
Well centred, but in a massive need of refurbishment
Besides the fact it is very old, some towels and bed sheets were stained. Shower hose was filthy, needed a deep rub&scrub.
A return visit to this hotel and found food was excellent ange again. Location is very good for town and railway station.
Reception and lower level was outstanding, porter wasn’t helpful at all Manager was brilliant bar man was very nice and polite Outstanding location, free parking.
Bath had old hairs in little out dated rooms, small fan
Staff most obliging
Poor evening meal menu
Convenient to centre of the resort plenty of parking. Good staff
No air con (but to be fair, exceptionally hot)
Great location and use of indoor pool etc
Room was warm but the temperature has been exceptional x
I stayed when weather was very hot, so found it difficult to keep cool in the room. Informed the night before travel that the room I had booked was already occupied so I was downgraded to just an ordinary room. No comfortable chair available so struggled to sit on the bed during the visit.
Friendly and welcoming. Clean and comfortable. Great seaviews. Lovely evening meal.
No air con but did have large fan for room
Poor cleanliness standards, thick dust on the walls in the rooms. Not a comfortable stay at all, we both awoke with back ache from the bed and pillows. Not even bare minimum service given throughout the entire stay, lack of interest in supporting with queries and a clear lack of knowledge of the parking provided. Little to no conversation during check in and check out. Unbareably hot room, no aircon or fan provided. Bathroom flooded due to a leaky tap. Overall the property feels neglected, unmaintained and the service was the area that this could have been redeemed but unfortunately it only contributed to making the experience even worse.
Location was superb and it was clean, comfortable and spacious
N/A
excellent location
breakfast was very poor quality
We have been to Paignton many times over the years and never stayed at the palace hotel until now. We had a dog with us, the room was on the first floor overlooking the back car park it was a clean room no complaints at all. We was on a b/b basis we was allowed to take our dog with us for breakfast ( not in the restaurant) must say the breakfast was fine and all the staff was very friendly and helpful all in all the hotel and staff was better than I expected. Located across the road from the green and a short walk into town ( Flat walk ) I have one slight and I mean slight issue that was at breakfast the tea/coffee cups are too small however you could refill if and when you wanted would I go there again the answer I WILL BE BACK thank you from me and my wife and our dog
Currently staying here. Understand that there is no air conditioning but , especially , during a heatwave you would expect each room to be equipped with a fan! No fan in our room. I have asked twice and have been told that no fans are available and to open the window!! Honestly, would it break the bank to buy some more fans. Really unpleasant uncomfortable night last night and again tonight.
Friendly, helpful staff. Food was amazing. Room comfortable. Entertainment good, shame not much of a crowd this time.
Shower could not be regulated. Although there was a bath if needed. A very quiet weekend, no coach parties which made it a little disappointing as the artists were playing to a very small crowd. On a positive note we did dance most of the 3 nights here. We have booked for Turkey and Tinsel this coming November.
Location was fine Breakfast was adequate
Hotel could do with a little sprucing up It looks old
It’s convenient to everything
Looks a bit tired in places. Noticeably the ceiling in reception, above the sofas
The location and the seafront with a short walk to the pier and beach is excellent. In adition there is plenty of parking available adjacent to the beach. The staff were all very professional, helpful and fiendly. Food choice and quality for both breakfast and dinner were excellent. We will return.
Location and staff in the hotel extremely polite and helpful
Dirty rooms, windows wasn't washed since last 20 years , smelly carpets, no aircon
All staff were fabulous. So friendly and helpful. Good shower. Beds super comfortable Great situation
Was given a room that had someone in already . Had the key to access their room . Moved to another room without sea view that I paid for
What an absolute dump Paignton is . Hotel matched the area
Excellent
Nothing
We had a lovely stay at the Palace Hotel. The Hotel had everything you needed. The gardens were beautiful. It was a pleasure to both look at and sit in for a drink with the pretty flowers and shrubs. There is plenty of parking. The beach is just opposite. The town is close by with restaurants and shops. The staff were friendly and helpful, with a couple of standout people. First was Carolyn on Reception. I had paid for a sea view as it was a special occasion, a big birthday ! There had been a mix up with the rooms and we had a side room. The whole special weekend could have been ruined. I was extremely upset as it was supposed to be “special”. Despite being fully booked Carolyn managed to move things so that we had our sea view. It was so lovely to relax and look out at the sea. Another standout member of staff was Paul in the restaurant. He found us a nice cool table, as it was very hot, was very friendly and welcoming. He was helpful with advice on where to go for the day. A lovely man. Lauren was on Reception when we left and was also very friendly and helpful….with all our requests and a mix up with newspapers. I would thoroughly recommend staying at The Palace Hotel, not only for the Hotel, amenities and view but for the lovely staff who went out of their way to make our Special Occasion so special.
Great hotel with older features but well looked after and in a perfect location. Delicious food. Friendly staff.
Great location and friendly staff. Big shout out to Rob, the best bar man and cocktail guy!!
All staff work hard to make you welcome, and food was good during our stay. Excellent parking. However the Palace is getting very tired and rooms need to improve, lack of maintenance is a key area for improvement. Rooms getting shabby, never before have we come across management who shy away from keeping high standards. Our room has rusty radiators, dirty windows and aging decor, all looking a bit sad. Despite previous promises of improvement nothing ever happens, all very disappointing, we don’t want the Palace to slide down further. Why no investment into this property?
We got married here on the 6th june. It was amazing. The staff are brilliant and everything ran so smoothly. The rooms downstairs are so beautiful. The food was delicious as well. We had ordered beef, chicken and veggie burgers for the evening buffet. They knew we wanted them in the evening and the wedding was booked. There was no chicken burgers which was a shame as some people dont like beef. Even though the weather was rubbish we still had some beautiful pictures in the hall way. The only thing I will moan about is the decor of the bedroom and the lights. It needs a bit of updating and the only light that worked was the lamp by the television. Room 63. And the curtains have seen better days.
Asked for an accessible room. Was given one with 6 stairs to climb, a bath, window that woukd not open overlooking bins, narrow space between bed and wall resulting in the eldest guest falling and breaking her knee and elbow. Now in hospital and unable to go home for months. Still no return call from Management 2 days after the accident and complaint email sent. Even no refund for room unused as mother was in hospital. No 1st aider offered until I requested one after her fall. Only positive. Paul the waiter and 1st aider. A true star.
Elderly hotel, a bit care worn in places, but being maintained. Not a corporate image, so has some character. Breakfast good value, well cooked. Good location for a level, reasonably short walk into town. Stayed before, would hapily stay again.
The hotel was lovely, all the staff were friendly and welcoming, the breakfast was delicious and plenty of offerings, nice sea view and free parking.
The bed, it was the worst bed I have ever tried to sleep on it was like sleeping on a table, i had about an hours sleep all night, I had to sit in the chair most the night because it wasn't even comfortable to sit on, thankfully it was only for 1 night otherwise I would have complained and asked to be moved to another room
Liked the breakafasts and dinners
Refurbed bathroom
Very nice hotel friendly staff nice location
Nothing to dislike
Friendly staff going out of their way to make us feel welcomed, didn’t enjoy not having hot water in the morning two mornings in a row.
Cleanliness throughout, friendly staff, breakfast dinner excellent.
Too many mirrors, even outside lift door was mirrored. Very disorienting.
Brilliant
Location, grounds
