The staff is very helpful with westerners. The guy at the front desk happily helped me navigate some stuff in Beijing. The neighborhood is nice, especially if you need to get to an embassy. There's a cool outdoor eating area a few blocks away that's worth checking out. It's about a 1/4 mile walk to a subway station, which is nice. The hotel, however, is old and not well updated. The lights in the room kept blinking on and off and the TV is very dated. I tried to get it fixed but nobody came.
Good hotel nothing special about it. Location was very nice and close to the Beijing old airport. Rooms were good and large in size but with old furniture and should be renovated. Breakfast was good with large selection. Staff were nice but many of them didn’t speak English.
If your purpose is to go to the embassies for something, it is really convenient. Very close to the embassies, about 10 minutes walk to the U.S. Embassy. The subway station is not too far but not close either, about 15 minutes walk. And there is not a lot good restaurants options around either. It’s just easy for businesses with embassies. The room is comfortable and the view is nice. The bathroom is big and clean with necessary bathing supplies provided.
Never ever stay at this hotel. Not worth the price. The room is not available although past the check in time. Air conditioner and the light are not working properly. We have to take off the room key in order to switch off the light. They have charged my credit card twice for my stay. The staff are not very helpful in solving the problem. Still waiting for the refund.
There is no evident that I make the book resulted 45 minutes waiting and verifying in order to check-in. After 3 weeks I realized the hotel has deduced CNY 1,648.00 from my Visa Credit Card which I already paid on line to Hotels.com It's a nightmare.....meanwhile I am verifying how to get my money back
I'm sure Chinese-speaking guests have a different view but an honest opinion from a Scandinavian non-Chinese speaking family of 5: Over the 5 days we stayed at this hotel we encountered two people that spoke a few words of English which, when asking for help in the lobby, didn't help at all. Restaurant down stairs, Rain Café, had in our opinion inedible food so for both information and meals (except for breakfast) we went across the street to the Marriott hotel were the staff was English speaking and wonderfully helpful. The only reason we stayed at the Concordia is because it was booked by our Traveling Agency. I'm sure the staff here wanted to help but due to their lack of English they panicked and ran away from us. We're guessing this is a popular hotel for Chinese as we didn't see one non-Asian person in this hotel for these 5 days! Rooms are fine, hiccups here and there (missing toiletries, stained towels, broken chair and wallpaper coming off with mold visible & when we asked for an extra bed we got a bed without sheets and when asked for sheets staff panicked and ran away due to the fact that they didn't understand). All the floors also smell like cigarettes which may be because of the old carpet - I'm sure they could improve the air here by replacing the carpet. They claim to have Wifi when it barely works, both in lobby and in the room. Along our month-long trip we stayed at HomeStays with much better Wifi. The "spa" and gym have seen better days - no mats to do floor exercises - just a cigarette-smelling carpet which soaks up all the moisture. Limited equipment but it was fine. Make sure, if you want to go swimming, you bring a swim-cap as swimming without one is not allowed and a Chinese life-guard will yell at you haha. Other than that this was a better roof over our heads than mosquito-filled HomeStays in the middle of the Cambodian forrest. :)
I booked my room on hotels.com for about $100. Good thing I did because the at counter asking price for the same room was about $550! Had I paid $550 I would be underwhelmed but for $100 it was great! Staff spoke enough English, the room was very clean and the bed was soft. Enough said. In a great part of Beijing near the action.
I always stay in this hotel while in Beijing. Nicely located, good quality, nice breakfast (and on walking distance to our office). Somethimes the keys do not work, but you always get help to sort this small problem out.
I stayed here for two weeks on vacation so I got to know the place pretty well. First, the staff is outstanding, really fantastic. The majority of the staff do not speak English, but the managers and the concierge do. When I needed something and no English speaking person was available they were quick to either go get someone, or call someone on their cell phone. Jeff, Jimmy and Victor are all what make the Grand Concordia grand; they went above and beyond daily to help us with anything we needed. In fact, Jeff gave me his business card with his cell phone number on it after a few days there and told me if I was out and about and needed help, translation services or a taxi called to my location to please call him directly. Victor was always out front with a smile on his face and he opened car door for me, or put his hand on the roof when i got in a vehicle so i didn't bump my head. He told the taxi drivers where I wanted to go so there were no mix ups. You couldn't ask for a better staff, they treat you like royalty. The breakfast bar is HUGE with vast choices. The majority caters to Asian taste but they make an effort to include some Western choices as well. I had the best time every morning trying a new fruit or porridge. The rooms are kept very clean, we could eat off of our bathroom floor. The wallpaper, however, is a bit dated and peeling in some sections. The motion activated lights are nice, especially when you need to get up at night, The bathroom light does stay on about 15 minutes, whereas the hall light stays on about 15 seconds, but we just shut our bathroom door so it wasn't a problem. I did have the lights go out on me in the shower almost daily, but contrary to other reviews, you do not have to get out and walk to the middle of the room. Simply opening the shower door and waving a hand out is enough and takes just a second, not really a huge deal. I had coffee almost nightly in the Amigo lounge. The waitresses are wonderful and the coffee is strong. I also ate three times in the second floor restaurant and it was absolutely wonderful. The food was amazing and the staff tried very hard to speak English and used their cell phones for translation help when needed. I have two complaints, however: First, the hotel has no smoking signs everywhere along with signs in the room stating it's against the law to smoke inside as of June 1, 2015...and right in front of the sign is an ashtray. Also, I saw people smoking in the hallways daily and flicking butts in the trash cans in the hallways when they got on the elevator. The stink is terrible. Second, do not disturb evidently means nothing. Some of the staff, while in attempt to be helpful, can seem intrusive and pestering at times. They knock once and walk right in. I was ill during my stay and was trying to sleep, but the staff walked in on me offering me a cookie. Also, I had the do not disturb sign on the door and the cleaning staff came in anyway. Overall, this hotel gets an A and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
Well organised and clean. I stayed at the Marriott just across the road for two nights and thought I would change hotel to mark the end of a work trip. Great value for money and I even got upgraded to the top floor....but I let the water to run for 3 mins and the water was still brown, very brown. The sink wasn't draining well and can be a potential fall hazard. I had to brush with bottled water and refrain from singing in the shower... Otherwise all is good.
I had read that some people thought that the Grand Concordia was getting a little "worn," so I was a little surprised to find that it is a beautiful hotel with a very good, reasonably priced restaurant. The only drawback is that there were not many staff who could speak English and I don't speak Mandarin. We were there for one night, so we didn't get a chance to explore the neighborhood, but it looked like there were some nice comes in the area. The hotel is also close to the embassy district.
Stayed for 3 nights.Although the hotel was comfortable it is very dated. Would have been very grand and royal in its heyday but in the year 2016 it just isn't right. Very Chinese hotel with fake marble everywhere. We had to change rooms after the first night as the shower leaked everywhere it actually nearly flooded the room, we had to throw all the towles on the floor to soak up the water. The breakfast buffet is good, although the bacon, sausages and fried eggs were cold on both mornings. They cooked a heap and just put them on trays under a light, no heat at all. Lots of other choices though. Indoor pool was nice, big and clean but cold, could only stay in for 10 mins tops..
I stayed here for an entire week on business so I feel like I can say something about this hotel. You can see that the hotel in its heyday was a very upscale place. The furnishings are of good quality, solid wood furniture, marble bathrooms, a magnificent entrance... but since those days, it has accumulated layers of detail that don't quite match up to the original grandiosity. Take for example the signs in the rooms and on every floor, with different fonts and misspellings, the breakfast buffet in which every other item is mislabeled - chicken sausage says "beef" and beef is actually pork, etc. and btw they were some of the worst sausages I have ever had. The strange mix of 70s and 90s music playing in a baroque style cafe... All this adds up to a sense of confusion, and thus mistrust, about what the hotel really delivers. Do they know what they're doing? Or are they just roughly following the example set by the original management, with no real sense of how a five star international hotel is supposed to keep up with the times? Granted, the basic things work: the bed is comfortable, the showers work, there is plenty of hot water, but as with so many local hotels, you can smell cigarette smoke in the room at night, and can't tell whether it's coming from the next room or the central air. Inside the room, there is a sign forbidding smoking indoors by order of the government, yet there is an ashtray right next to the sign. What gives? At one point I had to receive a package left by an associate. Even after I gave them my name and room number, the concierge was unable to locate it. It was only found after I gave them the name of the person who left it that the package was found. This shows that they don't try very hard. I also saw bellboys spitting into the garden and yet they were nowhere to be seen when you arrive at the hotel. Not a good impression to give to first arrivals. The hotel mostly caters to Chinese businessmen and maybe they don't demand as much (or look for different details, such as the selection of Chinese teas of which they do offer plenty), but as an international business traveler, I see this more as a four star hotel. Oh, but the second floor Chinese restaurant (independently operated) called Fu Yuan is quite good and is recommended.
Clean rooms with comfortable beds. Pedestal toilets, super nice bathrooms. Pool and dry sauna in basement, (make sure you've got a swim cap, required). One of the best western style breakfasts I've had in China. A really nice hotel for the money, with European luxury style. Right around the corner from the United States Embassy.
The service is so terrible , it takes forever to get in . The rooms are not that bad but the service leaves a lot to be desired . If you are a foreigner then get a Chinese friend or translator to help you because most of the staff speaks English .
The location is convenient and the beds are comfortable. Those are the highlights; however, three irritants during my one day stay significantly drop the review of this property and I would not return. * The lights in the bathroom are motion sensor, meaning they stayed on longer than I would like when I used the bathroom in the night and also they turned off while I was taking a bath .... causing me to have to get up and walk into the middle of the room to turn them on again. Insane. * After I finished my work assignment in the morning, at 10:15am I put on my running clothes and was going to hit the gym. Unfortunately....I learned their gym does not open until 4pm. Such a disservice. * When I found a restaurant from Trip Advisor that is close to the hotel (0.25mile away) and asked the concierge how to get there (showing him the map) he was not helpful. Even when I shared with him the phone number from the restaurants website he said the number is fake and wouldn't call it for directions. I later dialed that number and it worked perfectly. I would expect better from a hotel that purports to be upscale.
Stayed 2 nights and got a free upgrade to a suite. Cleanliness in shower could be better. Breakfast buffet quite comprehensive, focus on Asian food. Free wifi. Friendly staff. Missed a bar place. The light system in the room was a bit odd. Works on movement sensors, well not always.....
After staying here two night, i can say i still didn't find the hotel i will be happy to return to when visiting Beijing. the room was clean but didnt look like it is well maintain and as a fact the shower didnt work. more over, when i complained, they just ignored and the second night i had again to "enjoy" the poor shower. In general, i am not that picky but when paying over 700 RMB, i just expect for more.
I stayed at Grand Concordia hotel, Beijing from Feb 10 til 12, 2014. Room was spacious and all the staffs were friendly & helpful. Breakfast buffet was little disappointed, but it wasn't very important. We went one restaurant called 'Bellagio' nearby this hotel and really enjoyed the food there.
This hotel is a beautiful hotel and I would go as far as to say that it's really one of the most elegant hotels we've stayed in. The foyer is quite magnificent. The room from it's initial entrance way, piped music, large floor plan , really soft beds, desk and comfortable furniture, as well as large bathroom with independent shower, separate bath double basins and separate toilet is really fantastic. There is an excellent selection of toiletries provided. We booked the hotel online not really knowing much about the location in Beijing. The hotel is located near the American embassy which is not in the downtown area. It takes about 20 minutes by taxi to get from downtown and about 40 minutes to get to from the airport. The hotel isn't necessarily set up for the European tourist as the staff don't necessarily speak English but then again there is normally someone at the concierge desk who speaks English well. We really enjoyed the buffet breakfast experience which caters more for Asian cuisine but does have also breads and some cereals and a selection of fruit for the less adventurous. Also this hotel has a large pool if you are wanting a swim. We really enjoyed coming back to the hotel each night and the feeling of living in luxury!
Our group of 30+ stayed at the Grand Concordia this month. Impressive building, nice decor, good service and close to everything. The check-in was quick, considering a few clerks spoke English. Went to the front desk twice for service and had to wait for the manager on duty to serve me in English. The 3 elevators were busy, but efficient. Rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed with bar fridge, couch, desk and coffee/tea pouches for free. There are also other items available at a cost. The all marble bathroom has a bathtub and separate shower along with two sinks. Toilet in separate room. There was some mould around the base of the toilet. Caulking was awful everywhere. Toothbrushes, razors, comb are included along with the other amenities. Hair dryer is in a drawer in the bedroom. Air temperature could not be controlled unless you opened the window. It was over 27C all the time. Air and lights only work when room card is inserted in slot. The buffet style breakfast was varied with both western and chinese foods available. By 8:30 most mornings there was no more bread and juices. Juices were replenished but not the breads. You had to ask for coffee or tea. Some guests just helped themselves after waiting. Some of our group had supper there one night and complained that it was very pricey. There is a pastry shop at one end of the lobby. Real coffee could be found in the next building to the right. Great place. I would highly recommend it.
I stayed at the Concordia from 20th -27th October where I was part of the faculty in a training mission. The Concordia appears spanking new and well-maintained - the lobby is impressive and my room - 1506 - was spacious and well-appointed. Comfortable bed, somewhat over-stuffed pillows and all the appliances and switches worked as designed with few of the idiosyncracies I've seen in so many properties. The room rate was very reasonable compared to many similar hotels in Beijing. The only issue I had was that the Concordia is really not geared to service foreign guests. To start with, it's difficult to find someone on the staff who speaks English or, for that matter, any other foreign language. This extends to all levels - even the telephone operator hasn't a clue so it can get really trying. I missed my flight back and was desperately trying to re-schedule my itinerary but there was no travel desk and nobody to help with the language. This might not seem like such a big deal to some but imagine if one fell ill and needed urgent medical help. The differences in culture begin to strike you after a while. In most high-end hotels, the staff try to anticipate needs - would you like this or that, or shall I get you a taxi. Not so at he Concordia. The staff can be very friendly and polite and will help as best they can if you ask them but don't expect any proactive steps on their part. The food is really good but only if you stick to Chinese cuisine. At breakfast, for instance, the huge spread is mainly Chinese with delicacies like rice gruel, chicken and pigs intestines and a frighteningly-named "Vinyl Colon Chicken". You'll get eggs and bacon and lots of fruit but the cold cuts are old and tired and the cheese is dry. Don't look for jams and preserves - there are none. I asked for a Club Sandwich from Room Service and got bits of bacon, chicken and lettuce between layers of what appeared to be cotton wool. Overall, I'd recommend the Concordia to those foreigners who have local friends or associates who could help out in the event of an emergency. If you're Chinese, however, it would be difficult to find greater value for money in Beijing.
