Great setting. Plenty of free parking. Staff very helpful and professional. Good breakfast.
The location was spot on 5 minute walk to the centre. The room was amazing i love old period properties and this did not disappoint. With a dated elegance. The staff were friendly and welcoming
Disappointed with breakfast the scrambled egg was overcooked, cold and tasteless the beans also barely warm felt like it had sat forgotten in the kitchen. Had a 30 minute wait to get this while people arriving after us got theirs first.
Staying in annexe a hundred yards away. Welcoming receptionist with clear instructions how to get to my room. Generously sized room, clean and neat.
No Wifi. Can't see the problem in providing it.
Room location was wonderful - ground floor with beautiful views across the garden.
A chair in the room would have been lovely to appreciate the fantastic views.
Beautifully clean. Main accommodation looked amazing. Great sized room , close to lovely high street and market place.
We stayed in accommodation found around the corner on a cut through lane which busy early evening and early morning opposite the church. Was disappointed as no wi fi ,stairs in room weren’t aware as wobbly on feet found challenging at night when popped to loo. Doors could do with oil as think woke whole building up.
Lovely place to stay, clean and quiet
Slightly uncomfortable bed
A comfortable hotel, clean & helpful staff
Room was spacious. Well cooked and presented breakfast, excellent location.
They didn’t mention the place is being refurbished and you would be staying in a place 5mins walk away
Poor communication // terrible directions to place to stay in the dark at 11.30pm at night
The price is cheap, great position, friendly staff.
The swan rooms may vary and the one we selected didn't have the picture on booking. The room was small, far from the main building.
Friendly reception staff
Being sent to room off site and difficult walk away from main building and car Our room had scaffolding walkway outside and the window latch did not work Dining room small and dominated by conversation from another table Diner was very poor -dried up fish under tough grilled bacon
dinner
nothing
Looks wonderful but looks can be deceiving. Staff desperately need training and guidance. Chef needs more training. Whole place needs a huge kick up the backside
Building work MUST be completed to a much higher standard BEFORE rooms are put into use. Lack of WiFi in annex. Dangerous lighting in annex corridor. Poor attention to detail.
Room was nice and clean Big bathroom Decent bed
Bathroom door didn’t close Pillows were too firm Lots of noise due to windows not shutting securely Difficult to find as was in separate building Door shut very very slowly Bad wasp infestation on landing, luckily only 2 seemed to be in the room whilst we were there. Curtain pole bracket was loose from the wall
Location was good for where we planned to go throughout the weekend,
Our room was not where we expected ,also no parking facilities for my car at the room, so having to walk back to hotel for breakfast and collect my car for our destinations, taking our lougage to and from the room , we were informed we weren't in main hotel but didn't realise our room was further down the road ,
Firstly starting with booking.com falsely advertising that we would be staying at the old lodge but upon arrival got told we were actually staying elsewhere. This is despite the description saying the old lodge, all images showing the old lodge and the address given being the old lodge. We then got told by staff would could actually stay in the hotel if we paid £76 extra. Upon arriving at our actual place we had to stay our loft hatch was open. It was unreachable by me so I asked the staff to help close it, instead of helping and coming to look I just got told we would have to be moved into the main hotel but the other half of our party couldn’t. We checked into our new room and the wallpaper was coming off the walls, round the windows was all mouldy. Don’t get me started on the bathroom, if we run the sink tap the water wouldn’t go down the drain so we could even use the tap to wash hands or brush our teeth. The rotten egg smell that was overpowering coming from the drains it even made the staff take a step back at the door. The cleaner just put some bleach down and we where left in this stench. We booked in for an evening meal and the service was so slow despite only being 5 tables in the room. We waited so long for food and not even all our food came out and no staff around to ask when it would be coming. My child’s food came and it was awful so sent it back, almost 20 minutes later his ‘cheesy pasta’ arrived and let me tell you it was basically a bowl of pasta with about 3 slithers of grated cheese on it (I have photos) who likes to sit and eat dry pasta? Over all would not recommend on the hotel or booking through booking.com again
Everything!
Location was ideal in Malton centre
Our room had no shower, just a bath. The church bells ringing every hour from early o clock
the history, the downtown location, and the architecture
The bathroom shower was very small
Good location. Clean bedding
In need of TLC. Disturbed sleep due to drunken guests being very loud. Breakfast good, evening meal disappointing, staff young and when asked what the butter was for in ploughman’s meal as there was no bread, was told possibly for the pork pie!
Very spacious room which was well furnished and clean
Poor directions on how to find the annex 100 metres from the main hotel in which our room was located Mattress gave little support, and the pillows were useless Wifi was not working throughout our stay Constant road noise right outside the window till after 1am We could hear every movement of the occupants in the room above
Breakfast Lady called lynesey. Back garden was nice
Staff did care about anything, very loud and talked about stuff that should be talked about in front of guests The evening meal was horrible. The hole place needs a lot of tlc. Carpets need changing. Bathroom has no fan, so after two people having showers the bathroom was soaking wet for steam. Total under staffed. the lady doing reception was also wating tablesand behind the bar..someone wad always left waiting. Dirty plates left out and not taken to the kitchen. Glasses left on tables outside for ages , Needs cleaning and a refurbishment
Everything
Great location, lovely feel to the place. And the staff were super helpful.
It was nice!
Large bedroom & bathroom
Difficult to find as major renovation work is ongoing and we were not advised of that in advance . It took 3 attempts to find the entrance behind scaffolding.
We used to visit this hotel regularly for lunch as we live in the town but under previous management it went downhill. Last week we discovered it was under new management and was again serving food and drinks. Absolutely top notch lunch here today. The service was excellent and the staff were helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Very reasonably priced for such a great location. We sat outside overlooking the beautiful grounds. The interior is undergoing renovation and a face lift but none of this spoiled our experience.
It was reasonably priced and extremely comfortable
Nothing.
Staff were lovely
We stayed in the white swan rooms, which were located away from the hotel without a car park, so we had to walk down the road with our luggage. The building was a small block. Was a bit of an air BnB vibe. Tiny window overlooking someone's back garden. It was one small room with a separate toilet and sink. There was a bath with tiny hand held shower next to the bed and wardrobe. Really bizarre. It was opposite a church and the bells went off every 15 minutes from 6am in the morning. Please bear this is mind if you want to have a good night's sleep. We were only staying one night and were glad to leave. Wouldn't book again.
Lovley building with large gardens and good location
Wrong information given by night staff so I wasn't served breakfast that I paid for as the times given was incorrect and the bed was hard and uncomfortable.
Location, parking, staff, great breakfast
Poor pillows, could have been a more spruced up room pretty dreak
The beautiful Jacobean building and reception staff.
Faded, dated , overpriced and building work
What a great stay in a fabulous building. Three of us on a golf trip. Bedrooms huge and attention to detail a priority. The staff were very polite and courteous with thanks to Lynsey who took the booking who was extremely helpful. Also a special mention to Libby on reception who was there on arrival and checked us out and she was superb.
All good - nice old building and grounds, plenty of parking and close to all amenities.
Unfortunately scaffolding/building work to front wall in progress but I suppose it had to be done at some point.
Beautiful historic lodge. Excellent large room and ensuite Excellent restaurant on site with good prices. Convenient to the township
Stairs only could be tricky with a big suitcase Nothing
Easy to find, main hotel in lovely setting. Very old historic main building. Wonderful to see the care being taken in the restoration of the front imposing boundary wall.
The room was offsite but nearby and handy for town. The wifi was not working but we didn't really need it. The cooked breakfasts seemed expensive if you didn't want full english; e.g. porrage was the same price (continental was better priced).
Wifi problems and ambiguous directions to the off-site location. Had to slam the door to latch it properly.
Comfortable and clean room on ground floor with adjacent disabled parking. Room was serviced every day and free bottled water supplied. Breakfasts were excellent in both quality and quantity as were optional evening meals. The building itself and its grounds were spectacular. The staff were amazing.
I know it is a 400 year old building but a lift would have been a bonus so we could use one of the upper floor, more superior bedrooms.
Nice location. Lovely staff. Drinks reasonable. Had a nice ‘feel’ to it. Beer was kept well. Some great breakfast choices. Bright, airy and clean.
Bed was a bit too hard for me. It’s a personal preference. Whatever issues at breakfast were sorted, like enough butter and then having the toast at same time as cooked breakfast. Found it difficult to pour milk from jug without making a mess. A lot of scaffolding which we were warned about but we did think it was shut due to entrance and building renovations.
Big rooms and bathroom Almost too big
A little dated
Didn’t have breakfast
Being actually in the hotel
It is a charming old building with many comfortable sitting areas, including outside on a spacious terrace. Our 'twin' room had two double beds and the shower room was modern and well equipped. The staff were very friendly.
My spring mattress was rather lumpy.
Lovely old property
The main hotel and grounds are delightful. Lovely old building.
We stayed in an annexe down the road. Our ground floor room was next to the entrance and very noisy. We discovered in the morning that the window was ajar and anyone could have entered our room. Loud people above us too. There was a lot of damage from damp and water intrusion. The room resembled a cheap motel room.
Loved the building and the gardens
N/a
Beautiful historic building and grounds with ancient trees.
Currently major restoration work being done to front entrance wall to the grounds. On arrival we were told that our room was in a completely separate building about 150 metres away down a hill into the town. We could theoretically unload our cases down there from our car and then drive back up the hill to the main car park at the hotel and then walk back down the hill to our room and when required walk back up the hill for meals/refreshments. My husband has difficulty having to walk and needs a stick. This wasn’t ideal!! We were offered a more expensive room which I believe was the only spare room available for our three night stay so had to pay an additional £145.00 . This made for an unfortunate start to our stay!
Our room was in the White Swan Rooms just down the road from the main hotel and was very large ....could have slept a family of four. It had everything you need for a brief stay.
1st night. Very friendly staff, unfortunately food is not served after 19.45. After our table was cleared the waiting staff walked past our window at 8 pm and never came back. The place was like the Marie Celeste and I had to go searching for staff and coffee and desert. 2nd night. Restaurant closed early due to football but again nobody informed us. Next morning had breakfast which for £16.95 each was very disappointing, diden’t bother for the second day. 3rd night. Louise was on duty for 15 hours and the service and attitude was great. We stayed in the annex Down the road which was adequate. It needs updating and some Tlc. To be fair the hotel is under new ownership and the main hotel is undergoing repairs. The food served in the evenings was really good but let down by the breakfast. If the owners are able to turn it around it has the capability to be a lovely hotel, but not at the moment.
Very clean
Location
Location
Rather basic decor and off-site rooms, but otherwise satisfactory, taking in to account the good location and reasonable pricing.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Very large rooms in a beautiful building.
Unfortunately it was under reconstruction during our stay. The bathroom was very institution like and one of the windows were broken.
Stunning old lodge with wonderful history and beautiful rooms. Friendly helpful staff and great food
Twins had one biscuit. No soap or toiletries at all. Rooms were a bit tired and needed peeling paint etc to be looked at.
Everything
Everything
did not have breakfast. room could do with a referb and maybe a king sized bed bar fab thought snug would have had comfy chairs
bigger bed and snug have comfy chsirs
Great location comfortable room friendly staff nice bar and lots of rabbits in the grounds
The first room we we were given was accessed from outside and noisy so had to change rooms. The restaurant menu didnt impress and dining room separate from breakfast room was a bit soulless
Best part of the stay was the staff. Brilliant
Needs a good coat of paint , 400 yr old building but decor doesn’t need to look 400 years old
On arrival at the beautiful lodge we checked in and were informed we weren’t on site but staying at the annex building, not on site . So effectively we stayed in a bedsit not even in the grounds, this was not advertised. The bedsit was terrible, several holes in ceiling, curtain pole incorrectly fitted so didn’t close, cheap bathroom flooring, cheap flimsy bed. This was a student bedsit not a hotel. This is my first ever rant on accommodation, normally I’m easily pleased but this was not a stay at the lodge at Malton. Staff were excellent.
Lovely old property
Not clean, very dated fixtures and fittings, needs updating internally
Breakfast was excellent very hot and tasty, bacon eggs tomatoes mushrooms fried bread and beans. Cereals fruit yoghurt tea and toast. Rooms very clean hot shower lovely thick mattress plenty of coffee and tea.We were in the Swan annex around the corner of the hotel Hotel receptionist was lovely and welcoming very pleasant to
The only drawback was having to walk round to the hotel from the Swan annex
Breakfast was over expensive, free car park
The hotel could of been a beautiful 4* hotel, but the current owners don’t bother to clean /check cleaners have done a good job , wall paper peeling off paint peeling off walls mould stains on the walls dirt on carpet hairs on carpet stains on furniture, smells damp dirty room , came home early didn’t dare, couldn’t spend another night, not been decorated since king Henry left his curtains behind, ….
What a fabulous find from the moment we first arrived we knew that we were in for a treat. The staff were fantastic and made us feel so very welcome. The Hotel was being restored externally when we arrived. It is a credit to the owner that this beautiful place is being cared for with such passion and energy. Our room the Board Room was a stunning surprise during our stay we felt like we were guests at a country house.Overall a wonderful experience.
Nothing we loved everything.
4star that made me laugh the owners are more concerned about the wall than checking on cleaning and checking the the cleaning standards worst hotel I have ever stayed in went home early, room 2 dirty dead bugs cobwebs damp mould dirty hairs on carpet wallpaper peeling off paint peeling off, think they should revamp one room at a time, staff are great 👍 owner need to get a new manager shame basil faulty is not available.
Beautiful family-run hotel, close to town centre, railway and bus stations, lovely surrounding gardens, friendly and helpful staff and great food - especially the full English breakfast!
I wish we could have stayed longer!
Nice ambiance
Update some parts
Stayed on the 25th June what a lovely place to stay and relax we were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, thanks to Beth, Lysander good luck with your marathon on November the 1st we will think of you good luck thanks to Maggie , and Gabby and all the other staff that were on that day you worked so hard and it was busy with the lovely wedding and party well done to all, nice place to meet people as well hope to see you soon Steve and Michele from Bedfordshire
Location , excellent fresh breakfast . Staff very pleasant let us get changed for a wedding in a room as ours not ready as we arrived very early .
Room very dated and dirty , scaffolding outside the window. We were in room 10 not sure if the rooms in the main part of the hotel were any better
We stayed on the swan building, clean and roomy
Our room was opposite the church and the bell going off every 15 mins was not I was in expecting. Did drop (nit sure what time) but resumed at 6:45 am
Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful grounds with amazing trees in garden
Excellent service by staff. Comfortable, clean and spacious room.
The images on the website are if the Old Lodge. This is not, however, where we were accommodated: when we arrived, we were told to walk down the road, which has a narrow footpath, which at the time was not usable due to roadworks, to an annexe. When I booked the accommodation, it probably told me that this is what I had paid for, but in small print. It was a bit disappointing, but we did make use of the gardens and bar during the morning of our departure and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating.
Liked the grounds and garden
No one there to book us in. Eventually a cleaner went to find the receptionist who hadn’t heard the bell !!
The location of the main hotel was good but the annex down the road is not in a good location
Our room(No 14) was a small double with nowhere to store suitcases. The bed was hard and the tv was very small. The bathroom was particularly disappointing as there were no shelves so we had to put our toilet bags on the floor. The shower cubicle was also small with no soap tray and the light was so dim it was impossible to shave with or put makeup on. The towels had lost their soft feel through overuse and constant laundering.
Amazing.building ,rooms and grounds Full of character Excellent food and service
A little ‘tired’ but improvement s underway
The breakfast was nice. Liked the old style manor Quiet area outside with nice view of manor The staff were friendly
Room was Smaller than expected so not much room to move around the room and was very hot and stuffy Some other guests seemed rude to staff on breakfast
Exactly as described, stopped one night and excellent location. Friendly receptionist. Didn’t eat or drink so can’t comment . Stopped in the white Swann rooms which was the cheapest option, modern , good value for money. Can also park at the main building which was good
Huge bathroom was great , only a ‘ telephone style’ tap which was good for washing hair but not for a shower. Lots of space so suggestion would be to install a free standing shower. This didn’t bother us as only staying one night , but would if staying longer
This is a fabulous Grade 2* listed property that is steeped in history. The garden to the rear of the property is large, well maintained and has some fabulous old trees some of which are probably centuries old. The staff were all great and we had the opportunity to speak to the owner who told us about the history of the property which was fascinating. The room was quiet, spacious, clean and comfortable and very much in keeping with the historic nature of the building. We had dinner at the hotel which was great value and I can highly recommend the fish pie. The breakfast was equally tasty and filling. This is my first visit to Malton and it is a fabulous market town with a great variety of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants I just wish I'd had more time to explore it - maybe next time.
The worst rooms , don’t believe the Ai generated images in the advert it’s a dirty smelly disgusting place AVOID
Beautiful looking property as you drive up set in nice gardens. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Excellent cooked breakfast!
Hotel needs lots of tlc . Our room was too small, poor lighting and the bathroom Light cord was broken so green garden twine was the replacement!
Locality to the centre excellent breakfast with great service
Altho it was having important work done outside ,the first thing you see are dead conifers outside the entrance and dead box hedging thats blighted. extensive grounds lacking any colourful 💐 i hope the new owners will add this to enhance the experience .I expected it to be a bit more grand at 4 🌟
we did not stay in the main hotel but we were in the annex which was a shame when we arrived we got all excited as never having stayed in this kind of building before so we don't know much about it we only used the bar which was lovely and the restaurant for a lovely breakfast, oh and walked around the garden.
We did like it but thought we were staying in the main building not a separate annex which was nowhere as nice as the main rooms I expect.
Lovely building staff were very nice and great breakfast
All good
We were married here 21 years ago, first time we have returned and what a wonderful experience from entering the hotel the staff were amazing. We had an evening meal which was delicious. We met the owners who were extremely accommodating and friendly. We will definitely come back here it’s been a memorable stay.
Wonderful setting.
We were in the White Swan room which could only be reached via a risky walk on a busy main road where the pavement had been blocked due to ongoing wall repairs. Not good for any with mobility issues.
Avoid, dirty run down awful. Black mould , smelly drains broken windows , stained carpet, cobwebs, staff fighting in the bar … and there’s more but you get the idea.
Attractive building clearly about to undergo refurbishment. Beautiful gardens and outside space, great break out spaces and very quirky and full of character. Staff worked extremely hard to help and support us - well done Lindsay (?)! Bed was super comfortable and a problem was dealt with immediately. Felt very welcome.
Dated - a few things not working eg fan in bathroom, not enough power sockets BUT I think it’s going to be updated soon.
het ontbijt was goed eenzijdig je kon ook andere etenswaren bestellen . personeel was vriendelijk en behulpzaam , maar mag wel beter worden begeleid. het diner mag wel wat beter worden gekookt volgens mij was er geen kok.
betere bedden.
Easy parking and central to the town
3 mattresses stacked on top of one another creating a bed like a banana ment sleeping sideways. Room was only passable clean. Restaurant to expensive.
The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring Malton with plenty of parking space. The hotel has been lovingly restored, and the owners are friendly. Our room had stunning features and a perfect view of the grounds. We would definitely stay again.
The dinner menu was limited.
The old Lodge A beautiful building and gardens.
Nothing
The staff were amazing especially the lady on reception.
N/A
Old lodge in Malton. It has real character a beautiful Georgian-style hall full of charm and is currently undergoing renovation to restore it to its best. The property features beautiful gardens and parkland, stunning stone floors, huge rooms fitted with beautiful furniture, and plenty of parking. This is not a Premier Inn style hotel; it’s a Grade I listed building steeped in history, with character and atmosphere you simply cannot recreate in a modern build. Overall, it’s an exciting project with fantastic surroundings and huge potential.
Rm 4 Bath room would benefit from refurbishment but clean.
A great location. All of the staff were professional and very helpful. We were particularly impressed by Amanda who worked so hard and sorted out the issue with our booking
Nothing- we really enjoyed our stay
Nice historic building. Easy to walk into town. Sunday roast!!
No fridge in room. Bar very loud on Sunday
The room was a good size and dinner and breakfast were very good. The hotel was an excellent location as part of my cycle tour of the Wolds. Car parking was very good.
I was in the annex which wasn't as close to the main hotel as I would have liked - tricky storing the bike and moving between annex and hotel.
Location and cleanliness
No remote for TV and shower inadequate for what I expected
Located just a short walk from the town centre with additional accommodation in an annex just a couple of minutes away. We experienced both locations, which were very comfortable. The restaurant has a limited menu but well priced and the bar prices are sensible. This hotel was, we understand, acquired last year and they appear to be working hard to renovate and improve this lovely old building. The grounds are beautiful and on the day we arrived a wedding was in full swing. The staff are, in our eyes, exceptionally friendly and went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our stay. This seemed to rub off on the other guests as we were soon chatting. We will definitely return.
