Woodside Bay Chalets

Such a beautiful property, I loved waking up to the birds chirping in the morning - otherwise it was soooooo quiet & peaceful. The view from our chalet was absolutely beautiful!

I marked the property down slightly for location but only because it is a little bit further away from the main ‘town’. However, it is so easy to hire a car on the island & the accomodation also offers car rental!

The view at this place was one of the best I’ve ever stayed. It’s a beautiful, quiet, romantic location. The chalet is clean and well equipped.

There really is nothing not to like. The island itself is quite difficult to navigate but Steve and Heidi make getting to this chalet an easy process.

Driveway was very steep and a little tricky to find.

Keys were easy to get from a locked box , but the walk to Chalet is a little steep if you have mobility issues .

The view was breathtaking. The bed was really comfy and the cabana and sauna were lovely added extras.

Amazing views with great privacy. The chalet had full kitchenette so could cook up some great meals after having a bath and sauna.

Stunning views

Going by advert we only saw 2 chalets not the summerhouse which were put into / the absolute best views “thank you “but was up a loose gravel pathway that had a very steep incline at the top / being 78 and 63 respectively / and both fairly fit it was a challenge getting everything up there / we were ok after that but would advise to check what chalet you are to be given

The location was gorgeous. The view was amazing. We were very lucky we had such fabulous weather otherwise walking up the small incline would have been ordinary. This wasn’t a problem though.

Shower room gets wet due to the way the shower is situated. I had to hang the floor mat outside to get it dry. You can tell I am struggling to find something but it was the only thing that I wished I could change. Maybe if there was a bamboo or wooden mat slightly off the floor.

Location was amazing

I stayed at this place on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. It was in a beautiful location with a lovely sea view. The facilities were okay, though I did feel they didn’t quite justify the price. I also think we didn’t get the exact room we booked, since it was missing the advertised outdoor area. There were also quite a few signs around, constantly reminding us what we could and couldn’t do, especially about the 10 a.m. checkout, even though check-in was at 2 p.m. So, overall, it was a decent stay, just not as great as I hoped.

It was a bit out of the town. You needed a car to go anywhere. The chalet we were in was up a steep hill. Not suitable for some elderly or disabled people.

Top rated property with gorgeous view of Woodside Bay. Owners attentive and welcoming!! Lovely unit with fantastic view. Quiet location yet short drive to many vineyards. We have traveled to many waterside places in the world and this one is one of the best!! We plan to return when we return to NZ to see family😃

Amazing location, beautiful views and comfortable spacious chalet. The host allowed us to bring our French bulldog. She had a wonderful time with us.

There was some very loud music at 2am from an adjoining chalet / possibly outside the property.

Once we entered the building, the main living area and bedroom views from the windows did not disappoint.

A clearer description of this particular property and access to it on Booking.com would be helpful. For example, this accommodation on Booking.com is titled "1 bedroom apartment", but there is no cross-reference to Summer House, the name listed on Woodside Bay Chalet website. This caused some confusion for us as we thought we were in a different residence. We think it would help to put property names on the website photos, to group them accordingly, and to post clear photos or videos showing access . We were surprised by the gravel road access to the property from the main road. We were also shocked to discover the 150m or so trek from the specified gravel car park, up a steep incline with about 25 steps, to the front door. The only mention in Woodside Bay's description at the time of our booking was that this property was not suitable for disabled guests. We aren't disabled, and we are active seniors, but there was no way we were going to lug our 20kg suitcases over gravel and up this distance. If you have an overnight or light carry-on luggage, this access may be fine, but for heavy, larger check-in luggage, be advised. (See attached video on Google reviews). The kitchenette was very tiny, there was no under cupboard lighting over the cooktop as there was over the sink, and the non-stick pans were heavily scratched. The toilet seat was too small for the toilet bowl (see photo). The bathroom sink counter had very little room to place toiletries (see photo). We followed the TV instructions, but in the end had to contact the site manager, who had to contact the owner, who came the next day to assist us, and agreed to add one additional step to the instructions for clarity and ease of use. There is no deck to enjoy, as with the other properties at the bottom of the hill. Overall our stay was just okay.

Kitchen cutlery and pots & pans wasn't clean. We decided to purchase our own to cook with.

When I booked the site said only 1 left available which was the Summer House. I was not aware that pathway to Summer House was a very steep, long way to walk over loose gravel. I'm 73 with mobility issues and this was very disappointing to me that leaving and coming back to my accommodation was limited. To be picked up and dropped off from a wine tour required me to walk to the entrance of the property, which again was very difficult for me. I was not able to use the bath or sauna (but my daughter did) because of the pathway not being safe at night for myself. I never saw another guest check in the entire time we were there..It would of been better to have a more accessible accommodation.

The view of the apartment was breathtaking. The chalets are cozy and good for couples seeking a bit of alone time. The facilities were well-thought-out through as for people seeking to relax and rejuvenate. The hosts created a digital guide that provides an overview of the island and ways to make the most of the stay at the accommodation facility.

The location is not accessible without a car and the directions to get to the barn are not very straightforward. Maybe hosts could consider using signpoints to help visitors better locate the guest accommodation. Given that the location is not accessible the hosts maybe consider providing basic food options just to get people started. The chalets are closely located to each other which can hinder privacy for those seeking such provisions and walls are quite thin so you can hear most sounds from neighbouring chalets. There is also need to install air conditioning that efficiently cools the chalets. Lastly, some areas of the house such as the microwave and outside furniture could benefit with a more thorough clean.

The drive to the chalet was scary! Gravel road and steep hills scared me, I have a fear of heights so the road to the cabin made me nervous.

The view is stunning!

The location is serene and beautiful, though some people may feel it's a bit far if they don't have their own vehicle. The Ocean and Skye units are new tiny homes that are set up well to open up large doors and windows facing the water. There is a shared bathtub overlooking the sea that is fabulous, and the sauna is a great touch. It was clean and cozy with a responsive host.

Peaceful, relaxing and lovely views. The chalet was comfortable and fully equipped. The sauna and outdoor cabana/bath are a nice touch and the hosts were very helpful.

There were quite a few roaches around the property, I understand they’re bush roaches given the location on Waiheke (where I grew up) but perhaps a plug-in repellent or more frequent pest control could help? Accessibility was a major challenge. The property sits up a very steep hill and involves many steps, which wasn’t made clear in the listing. When we raised this, we were advised to check the fine print, but even after doing so, there was no mention of how steep or difficult the access would be? This made it particularly tough for guests with access needs. The listing also appears to be in the wrong suburb it’s closer to Whakanewha than Ostend. During our stay, we also helped other guests who couldn’t access their own accommodation due to similar access challenges. It’s a beautiful part of the island, but clearer communication about accessibility, location, and basic amenities would really improve the experience for future guests :)

Nice clean, modern chalet. Bed was comfortable. Terrific view from the chalet out over the Woodside Bay.

Location of was a bit “off the beaten track”, but accept that that can be seen as also a positive attribute. We did loose the Wi-fi signal for approx. the last 12 hrs of our stay.

No breakfast was provided. we were quite disappointed as we had not been prepared to self cater.

Beautiful place and suited us away from civilization and to many people. Great place to relax and spend time away from the real world with my husband.

Not a complaint, deal breaker or stop us coming back but felt as a previous motel cleaner it could have been cleaned better around windows or places where there was visible mould.

We had a lovely stay just that finding the property in the dark for after hours check in is not recommended as there are no lights at the main gate and no lights on the path guiding us. We had to find our way in the dark. Went past the location and had to u turn. Fantastic views where we were at the Summer House with panaromic views during the day but be warned its quite a climb up a gravel path esp with luggage as the car is only parked at the bottom part. Cute refurbished cottage with a fully equipped kitchen w stove, microwave & dishwasher! Tho the pots n pans may need replacing as its quite worn out. Warm for winter stays but please wear your wooly socks!

We had such an amazing stay, definitely recommend! Excellent communication from Steve, easy instructions provided to find the rental car as well as the accomodation. Beautiful, clean unit we stayed in. Had everything we needed (small fridge, basic kitchen equipment, towels). Amazing views. The outdoor tub and sauna were beautiful and great to use! They also provided great recommendations for places to eat and things to see/visit. We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely views but still disappointed compared to the pictures on line …. They make it look like you have uninterrupted views … but actually you are set back across the drive … so no privacy at all … people walking and driving right past your huge windows … so have to draw the curtains to get privacy laying in bed … but then no views !!!

The owners are right in warning about the steep hill to get to the cottage, but you end up with the best view. Once at the top you have preferred use of a picnic table and a wooden bench. The unit was as described. Very comfortable and had all the amenities required. Loved our stay.

Beautiful hillside cabins, well designed and decorated. Quiet area and lovely views of the bay. Cabin was well equipped with everything you need, just bring food and clothing. Oh and drinks :)

This place is perfect. The chalet was bigger than expected. Super clean. Wonderful bed and bathroom. The view was magical. And at night the stars gazing wonderful. This place is perfect for a romantic, stress free break. And then there's the Canbana bath ... What a treat. The hosts, Steve and Hiedi went above and beyond to make this special.

The chalets are in the perfect location overlooking the bay. They are fully-equipped, self-contained units with separate living and sleeping rooms. There is a sauna and an outdoor bath on site. We didn't have/make time to use the sauna, but the bath was glorious. I used it at dusk, so got to see the sky changing colours. My friend used it in the morning, so was serenaded by birds. Amazing. Even though we didn't meet our hosts (keys were in a lock box on arrival), Steve was great at messaging with instructions and local information. We hired a car through him as well, which was incredibly easy. All-in-all, a fantastic experience.

There are mosquitoes, which can't be helped, but just be prepared. There are a few rules at the property, which come with a charge for breaking them. We would never have broken them anyway, but having the 'threat' of a fine made us slightly anxious.
