Beautiful place peaceful atmosphere perfect for a relaxed getaway. The staff were super attentive and did a fantastic job. Special thanks to Enzo and Sumira who made us feel welcome and made our stay the best possible
Everything

The property was serene, well maintained, and very comfortable.
It is not the fault of the property but for young foreign travelers (children) the very traditional food was harder to eat. Generally during the day, the expectation is not stay in the hotel public areas from 11am-3pm. New guests are greeted in the lobby lounge and the public onsen are closed. We spent time in the rooms instead which was fine.
Almost everything! The private onsen in the room was an amazing experience, and the Kaiseki course was absolutely spectacular. I also booked an in-room massage, which I loved the therapist was so good that I actually fell asleep at one point. Even though I didn’t meet the chef I could understood that he was trying to accommodate everything/every detail he had noticed. I didn’t eat eyes of the fish and he started to removing them from the dishes. I would definitely recommend staying here. My only regret was not booking several more days! They also very kindly extended my check-out by another 30 minutes. I genuinely never wanted to leave.
Everything was perfect except for two incidents. When I arrived, the staff welcomed me very warmly and everyone was kind and attentive. However, when I was leaving, there was almost no one there to see me off. Only one young gentleman from the staff noticed and rushed over to say goodbye. It felt a little strange and disappointing, especially because the level of hospitality upon arrival had set such a high expectation, and the departure experience did not quite match it. The second incident was quite awkward. I simply wanted to order a Coca-Cola to my room, so I called reception. They told me someone would come to my room, and a staff member came all the way up just to tell me that they only provide water and that water is free. I explained that I wanted to ORDER a Coke, as there was a room-service drink menu in the room that clearly listed Cola. He then asked me to wait, left, came back again, and told me that the Coke was not free and would cost 600 yen and that if I still want to order it…. I was honestly very surprised by this interaction. Considering the price of the stay, I obviously was not concerned about paying 600 yen I simply wanted to order the drink. And I made it clear from the beginning. The whole exchange felt unnecessarily long and awkward for such a simple request. These were very very minor compared with an otherwise wonderful stay, but they stood out because the overall standard of service at the property was so high.
Relax and clean
This stay was amazing. The staff was so helpful and attentive, the amenities were very thought out, the services were mind blowing!! This was one of the best experiences I have ever done before and would recommend this to anybody looking for a relaxing get away!
The look, the foods and the in-room onsen
Dinner was served too slow between courses. We got very sleepy in the end and lost my appetite for desserts
Wonderful property, a fantastic luxury experience. Strongly recommended!
All the Services and the Meals from Day 1 to Day of my stay.
Nothing of such.
Cleanliness, serene and peaceful, ambience is warm, service is excellent.

What a special place! After about a week of walking 6-10 miles per day, it was so nice to have a little down time. Upon arriving at the hotel, we immediately got into the onsen and stayed there for a large portion of our two night stay. We loved the room -- finally a big space after staying in the tiniest of Japanese hotel rooms. We had a lovely deck with views of the mountains. You really are in the mountains at this place. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious for the most part, and there's a lot of it. I got to try a lot of different seafood that I had never tried before. One of our waiters, Ali, made my husband a homemade birthday card for his 40th birthday. Also, they provided transport when we went to the Hakone Open Air Museum (highly recommended) and the Ropeway.
There was one button on the toilet that didn't work - the open lid/close lid button. And once you get there, you get rid of your shoes and wear slippers. None of the slippers they had fit my long narrow feet comfortably. I'm being very nitpicky due to the price of the stay, which is more money than I've ever spent on a hotel before, by a lot.
Quiet, serene, and tranquil
Room assignment location and view. We had the parking lot view. Also, let guest be aware of reserving transportation to train station to be done early. It was completely booked when we tried.
Beautiful location and views. Really tried to accommodate the baby.
Very expensive for what it is - you have less than a day here from check in to check out and the process to check in itself is so long. Dietary requirements are very very limited. The public onsen is quite dated (again this is based on price) and things like the instructions on the massage chairs being in Japanese only are small updates that need to be made.
The staff was exceptional, and the property itself was beautiful and very comfortable. The views from the room were breathtaking, and the atmosphere incredibly peaceful. Everything feels so intentional and well thought out. Both meals were delicious, featuring a good variety of Japanese dishes with fresh seasonal ingredients. Dishes are presented beautifully. The shuttle service was very convenient.
Nothing, everything was amazing.

Upon arrival, the staff proactively came to assist with our luggage, and the check-in process was smooth and well-handled. The staff member who looked after us during our stay was particularly friendly and attentive, which made a positive difference to our experience. The location is excellent, and having a private onsen is a definite highlight. Our outdoor private bath had a beautiful view, making it a very relaxing and memorable experience. We also enjoyed wearing the hotel’s yukata to dinner, which added a fun and authentic touch to the stay. The food was decent, though not particularly outstanding. That said, the kaiseki dining experience itself was still interesting to try. The children’s meal was more Western-style, which worked well for our family.
One area that could be improved is the check-out experience. When we handed our key to a staff member, there was no guidance on the next steps, which felt slightly inconsistent with the level of service expected from a high-end property.

Absolutely wonderful staff.
Breakfast & Dinner were incredible. Staff was super friendly - We loved Sumire! Onsen was wonderful. Entire place was clean
Beautiful location with attention to every detail. The meals were so refined and delicious. Really one of the best parts of our trip to Japan. Would definitely return.
Nothing
Breakfast/dinner, extra sweets/wines
We booked this as a treat post-Tokyo Marathon & anniversary and it did not disappoint! From the food, to the service, to the rooms, it was perfect from start to finish. Get the full board option, it's worth it! And the free drink and sweets bar to round off the night is an excellent touch. Amazing amazing amazing.

Good . Very nice
Some more veg options
Food was incredible as was the service and the room!
Cozy small hotel with a minimalistic and luxurious experience.
No lunch in the premise. My daughter didn't like the food and surprisingly chef could not substitute any dish from the set menu to delight her. One dish which we were looking for was missing from the set menu and later staff told we got a wrong menu by mistake.
The Property was in a beautiful area
Gorgeous views and great meals. Staff are very friendly and attentive.
Water in both baths not that warm. You have to ask staff to add more hot water in the room bath.
Exceptional stay, would highly recommend
Location was convenient in Gora but traveling from Tokyo to the Yume station, did take awhile which is beyond the control of the property. However will need to account for travel time.
Staff at the restaurant is super nice. Food was delicious ! They served different items for both days with 4 meals!
Facility is aged, stain on the mattress and urine stain on the toilet. Shuttle only send you to place that’s within 5 minutes drive
food was under my expectation
food
It’s my second stay. The first time was amazing but the second time was just so so.
The portion is not enough and everyone left hungry
Beautiful setting, very quiet area. The room we were in was spacious and the private balcony and tub were AMAZING.
Everything was great, no notes.
The hospitality, food, room, onsen, view from the room are all top notch!!
The VVIP hospitality we received throughout our stay. Shout out to the hotel staff, Ali, for making our stay enjoyable and for seeing us off. The room was spacious, decorated with contemporary Japanese furnishings, chocked full of amenities, private onsen on the balcony deck. Private dining room for Kaiseki and authentic japanese breakfast. Cosy lounge equipped with a fireplace, panoramic view of the hills and bottomless alcohol.
The receptionist handling our checkout could have been more pleasant. It felt as though he just wanted to get the job done quickly and be rid of us.
Gora Byakudan was absolutely stunning from the time we arrived until the sad time when we departed. It just was not enough time. The building is gorgeous, the floor to ceiling common area overlooking the forested mountain area it beyond beautiful. We could have sat & enjoyed that view for hours. The room we had (Michi) was also beyond stunning, large and private. The private outdoor forested onsen was a welcome reprieve for our tired, achy bodies after the amount of walking we had done so far. We wished we could have spent more time in it. The bed was so comfortable, we slept like babies that night. The meals (dinner & breakfast) were delicious & so innovative. Nothing like we had during our entire 2 week Japan holiday. Nagisa who led us through both meals was a delight, so sweet, we enjoyed our interactions with her both times. The staff in general, who we interacted with were all friendly & helpful in any way possible. It was a nice touch to be able to call the hotel when arriving at the train station & have someone pick us up & then to drive us back to the station in the morning. If we are ever to be so lucky to travel back to Hakone, we would not hesitate to stay at Hakone Gora Byakudan again.
Nothing.
not much to do here. Once arrive at hotel, perhaps just plan on staying here. Tried for massage at night, and it was an ordeal for some reason they couldn't / wouldn't use their spa room, even though it was empty, it was 'closed' Hotel was quiet, this is not for families nor kids. Just plan on quiet time and the bath. Have in room and then downstairs there is men only and women only areas. Will eat at hotel, food was fine. A few things to see and do in Hakone. Was clean.
Beautiful setting, felt incredibly peaceful and the thought put into all the extras felt very special - e.g printed menus, welcome drinks, lounge amenities etc. The staff were very helpful, and made it a great stay. All the food was excellent, and was brilliant to try new things. The onsen was wonderful.
Beautiful property and the rooms were nice
Very difficult to get to
Beautiful, clean, first class service & food
The traditional Japanese cuisine was incredible!!!
Nothing
Amazing service. Everyone was so kind. The shuttle service was so nice. The food was delicious and a unique experience. The room was beautiful and the onsen (our private one and the public one) were wonderful. There were so many cute details that amazed us during our stay.
Nothing. It was perfect.
Beautiful, clean, spacious, light, new
The staff is very attentive, caring and helpful. The facilities are excellent
Everything was good!
My husband and I are both vegetarians, and the chef was able to make delicious vegetarian meals for us. The dinner we had was one of the best of our time in Japan. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. The room and private onsen were relaxing, and we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The staff went above and beyond by providing us a ride to the Open Air Museum and then to the train station. We had an incredible time and would very highly recommend staying here!!
The staff was amazing, I forgot to ask the name of our specific help but we couldn’t stop talking about her the entire trip. She was amazing. Please if anything, give her a mountain of praise from us. She made the entire stay amazing, she was incredibly attentive, extremely cordial and very kind. 11/10 stars just for her and I will be staying here again.
Great hospitality, nice view , nice and quiet Everything I want is there
Every space was absolutely immaculate and very well kept. Saki was taking care of us throughout our stay and she was incredible, she really went above and beyond to make sure we had the very best stay possible. Thank you very much to Saki and all the other staff.
Nothing.
Lovely staff. The rooms and amenities were fantastic. We had a private Onsen in our room which was the best experience for us. The dinner and breakfast was the best food we've had in Japan.
Could have had more variety and quantity of complimentary savory snacks.
Room and private onsen were WOW, real open air onsen facing the forest. Hotel has shuttle that takes you to the attractions around.
Loved our host Suki who was incredibly hospitable and kind. She took amazing care of us as if we were family. The lobby view was also incredible.
All staff had been really friendly and helpful, but special shout out to my dinner server Takano Saki 高野早紀さん, she’s the best! So sweet and polite, explained the meal very well and made some great recommendations, she made my dinner time extra enjoyable! And the note she left for me was such a surprise, felt very heart warming and sweet when I saw it on the breakfast table! I like almost everything about the hotel, except for the bugs at the onsen area lol. Had a great time here, definitely will come back if I decided to go to Hakone again.
