Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The friendliness of the staff made this place. It was basic and good for an overnighter but probably not a place I would anchor myself at for Newcastle.
The decor and facilities are dated.
Very friendly helpful staff
The downstairs looked like a tavern it was cool. The staff were lovely.
The cleanliness was non existent, we found snot in the bed and red patches. Not to mention blood and black mold in the bathroom.
Staff was helpful and friendly
The bathroom was dirty and the whole building needs an up date
The woman who checked us in, Does hotel and Bar, Bought her a steak and cheese bake from greggs as she recommended them to us, brilliant service with a smile, She made our stay brilliant.
Not enough steak bakes from the local Greggs lol
very friendly helpful staff. Room was described as basic, and it was. But comfortable roomy and great for a short stay.
could be cleaner overall.
Friendly staff
Needs updating everywhere
Best staff, clean rooms, cleaned daily with fresh towels, free parking, close to metro centre.
The only thing I didn't like was the charge of 80pence extra for a tot of lime cordial in my lager. As I was staying there and already paid I think that it was a rip off as a 1ltr bottle is only £3so they are making a minimum of £13 per bottle.
Staff was friendly and good location for the Metro center. free car parking on site so no need to book and pay in advance.
advertised with restaurant at hotel but no food was available and hadn't been avaiable for a while. only 1 staff member to run the full hotel including the public bar. hotel cleanlness suffeering because not enough staff so downstairs toilet not clean. rooms are kind of clean but attention to detail missing . we had toe nails in the bath.
Staff were friendly and helpful. A number of guests were taking part in the Great North Run and the hotel staff gave energy bars to us, which was a nice gesture. Hotel was easy to find, and access to public transport very handy.
The rooms were a little dated and probably could do with a little TLC, and redecorated. The walls were paper thin, so you could hear people coming and going from their rooms, as we as hearing the music and people talking downstairs in the bar. So if you want peace and quiet this isn't probably the hotel for you. If you just want somewhere to put your head down, then its value for money.
Staff were so friendly.
Nothing really.
La localisation, l'amabilité du personnel, le parking gratuit, le charme d'un ancien hôtel.
La vétusté de l'équipement, absence de douche, nombreux équipements ne fonctionnant plus.
Ideal for shopping.
Nothing.
This is an older building with a lot of character. We have a bicycle and they had safe storage inside. The water was instantly hot and the bed comfortable.
You had to travel quite a ways for meals.
The location was ok I suppose
Absolutely disgusting – filthy, unsafe and completely unacceptable This was genuinely one of the worst hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The condition of the Royal Hotel was absolutely disgraceful, and the photos I have taken speak for themselves. The room was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard. There was dirt and grime throughout, badly stained and damaged areas, broken fixtures and generally appalling hygiene. The most shocking part was a cupboard/door that could simply be opened, exposing wiring and what appeared to be electrical equipment inside. In the same area there was a filthy bucket containing what appeared to be dirt and faeces. I honestly could not believe what I was looking at. There were problems everywhere we looked. The bathroom and surrounding areas were dirty, fixtures and fittings were damaged or poorly maintained, and the general standard of the accommodation was completely unacceptable. This wasn’t a case of the hotel simply being dated or basic — it was unhygienic and, in places, appeared unsafe. My friend and I paid for accommodation that should, at the absolute minimum, have been clean, sanitary and safe. What we were given fell nowhere near that standard. I have extensive photographic evidence showing the condition of the room exactly as we found it, so this review is not an exaggeration. I would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to look very carefully at recent guest reviews and photographs before booking. I am extremely disappointed that a room could be offered to paying guests in this condition. I would not stay here again and I cannot recommend it.
Bed was comfy
Payed for internet and it didn’t even reach the room I was in
Just met my needs

Room in need of refurbishment and new TV amongst other items. Ok for 1 night.
Tatty room
For the money it’s a great place to stay if working in Newcastle
Guy the runs it. The bar, the jukebox, the Guinness
Love the Victorian bed. The room and toilet are spacious. The carpark is just below the room.

the pillow was dirty, there was blood on it
Friendly staff and a good bar downstairs with two decent pool tables. . The free parking is a huge plus.

The location is ok. It takes 15 mins to Newcastle City Centre by car. The staff are welcoming and nice.
The stay was very unpleasant. The room is not sound proof at all. The ground floor is a bar, and people stopped talking loudly and playing around there at 1 am. The sound was very loud in my room. I could not fall asleep until 1 am because of this, but I was woken by one neighbour's snooring at 4 am :(. The room was very hot when I came in, luckly the weather was ok in the evening. No air-con or fans. WiFi is not working at all in my room. It may be working downstairs though. The hot water was fine in my room, but the door of the shower cannot be closed, I had to hold it while having the shower. The cleanliness was so-so, but I found a hair in my bedsheet. There was also a hole in the wall of my room, I was worried about asbestos. One good thing is that the parking is free. Overall, the experience was very poor.
It was £52. You can’t complain at that price
Close to travel points
Room wasn't as advertised, no bathroom facilities, only working toilet in building had no light, only one shower in the facility that rarely worked, unhelpful staff when they were not too busy getting drunk, had rooms entered and stuff moved without permission, tablets stolen from my room and when confronted staff tried to claim they were not on that shift
Staff were excellent! Nothing was too much trouble!
Clean room. Welcoming and polite staff.. very knowledgeable and helpful.
The room was clean but could done with updating and towels in the room. More cups as it was a twin room but only 1 cup n no spoons. Plug socket behind middle bedside cabinet was hanging off the wall so couldn't use it.
Good comfy bed Good location and bus service Location good for what I was there for Good pub
Sweeky floorboards and sound proofing not great No ashtray at front entrance not sure where else you could smoke as there were a few other exits and if not using pub you may not want to smoke at entrance
Was a nice hotel ten minute taxi or bus out of the centre with a pub built in and absolutely amazing and friendly staff and was amazing value for money
Although some outdated facilities I really don’t see this as a problem for a one night stay
Nice staff ,liked the old style building
Not much it was fine
Comfy bed and tv in the room , and for the price it’s good value
The building and rooms are very run down and need a refurb
Old food in draws , black hair in bed, shower kept going from cold to scalding, my worker drove home 200 miles rather than spending the night
Value for money for staying within 30 minutes' walking distance of Newcastle city centre. Fine as a base and a place to sleep. Clean, quiet, car parking, friendly staff, bar with food available. Bedrooms named after women. Hotel not very busy so did not need to wait for shared bathroom. Fine to leave window open at night for cooler air as staying during a heatwave - without being disturbed by noise etc. Front door open until midnight and night porter available to answer if returning after that. Multiple fire exits.
Only two toilets and one shower shared between I'm not sure how many bedrooms. One of the toilets blocked quite easily. Bedroom hot and stuffy during heatwave; arrived to find radiator on during one of the hottest days of the year! Could not get hot water out of the shower, though not particularly concerned about this because of the heat. Small hole in floorboard under carpet in corridor. Room door locked OK, but lower half of door not true to frame. Another guest approached me in panic one morning to tell me that the main internal door that he had been shown the way out through had been left locked, and so he couldn't get out of the hotel. I was too sleepy to tell him there was another way out by climbing up one floor and down two.
Rendkívül olcsó, jól zárható szobák, régies divatjamúlt stílusú.
A semmi közepén van, a földszint egyben egy kocsma is, tehát minden este részeg férfiak tarsasagaban lehetsz. Aludni jó.
Lovely staff and made sure I had loads milk for my supper teas
Dirty toilet
Check in with Vicky was so quick and easy. There was a fault in our original room. I went down and spoke to Vicky. In less than 10 minutes. She rang me telling me, we were being upgraded to an ensuite room. Loved the cups-proper size. :-) And the toiletries. My partner was granted access to kitchen. 23.06.26 I just remembered- loved that the toilet roll was good quality and gentle. (I'm honest)
The stairs. Haha. Couldn't see any information about WiFi password. Nor bar opening hours. But also didn't ask. So myself was partially at fault.
Everything was excellent, the rooms were comfortable, the staff were exceptional
Would like to see the restaurant open back up again
In no uncertain terms, this is one of my best stays! The staff and owner are truly world class professionals. They made me feel so at home and were so accommodating. I will stay here every time I come to the Newcastle area. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly! It’s a beautiful location at a cost-effective price!

The staff were welcoming & friendly- great knowledge & the patrons were great to be around

Staff made me feel like part of the community very friendly and sorted my concerns instantly very nice place would stay there again in a heartbeat I recommend this to any traveller looking for a most welcoming place to stay
No kettle and only half a toilet roll, window was broken and jammed open, noisy with other guests, no extra pillows, not clean
Clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again when back in the north east.
The lady that check me in was very nice remember me when I came in evening I didn't catch her name but she was highlight.
The bathroom had cobwebs and spiders all through it. I had very noisy neighbours they didn't even stop talking till 3am. Mattress wasn't comfortable.
Loved the room nice and chill and staff were amazing
Nothin

We kregen een gratis upgrade. Er zat een pub onder het hotel die was wel gezellig.
De douche was kapot, het was erg luidruchtig en er was eerst geen wc papier.

All okay no problems
My only problem was someone set the fire alarm off at around 2am. I know this is out of your hands but the alarm went off for quite sometime then we was panicking not knowing if we needed to leave the room or stay.
Cheap
Very dated, and old fashioned Needs refurnishing
Helpful costumer service.
Dirty poor quality no wall light lamp Load pub rock music at 11pm from early afternoon load next door noise countryside area difficult to found it damaged curtain dirty bedding old mattress horrible experience. Damaged toilet sit All of them terrible quality
The bed was comfortable but it wasn't clean thankfully as we where getting a bodybuilding tan we brought our own sheets and bedding.
Everything the room it self was VERY dated and damaged. Broken fridge a tiny TV in a poor location to watch it. Could hear every little movement the floor was terrible. Kettle barely worked had to force the switch down. The bathroom the toilet seat was disgusting the shower curtain was stained. Very loud location Could hear cars ALL night driving past. Very tight corridors if had bags with lots of doors.
