The Best
Loved our stay, central location and very welcoming hosts who are more than happy to help you out. Bonus: 3 adorable cats!
Great location, friendly staff, good price
Could be a bit cleaner and some newer fixtures and fittings. Still great value though

Sam and Jane were kind and warm owners. They're knowledgable about the area, so don't be shy if you have any questions for them! It's a well-run place, in a great location. Food is ample nearby, about 2km to the waterfront, not much more one can ask for. A washing machine is also available for a fee.
If I'm nitpicking, just check the towels that they have kindly provided before using, as my partner's one was not very clean; Sam immediately offered another one.
Jane and Sam were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and so too were the shared bathrooms. I stayed here 4 different times as I came in and out of Kuching. Able to leave big knapsack on my trips to Bako and Batang Ai. Lovely neighbourhood with fruit stalls and many Chinese restaurants. Easy to walk into central Kuching. Look for all the cat sculptures.
Hosts were very helpful and friendly. Facilities clean and inviting.
The staff was very friendly and super nice. Help us alot as this is the 1st time we going to Sarawak.
Nothing
Très confortable, excellent petit déjeuner.
Un peu loin du centre-ville (environ 2 km).
Only draw back was our room was at the end of level 1 so visiting the toilet during the night not so convenient
good location to shop on the main road
Superbly convenient & safe location. Very clean. Thanks lots to Yoko! Excellent facilities for its price range. Appreciate greatly Yoko's innate kindness. She helped us with our heavy luggage up & down the stairs. She's amazingly strong yet humble. Appreciate info shared by Samuel & Jan, too. Best wishes.
It was a challenge at the beginning for short folks like me & my friend, to reach the entrance keypad at the gate. But with practice, we succeeded.
A great staycation place for those who come to Kuching town with a big family! Compliment with healthy breakfast every day. The location is very convenient, good facilities, sharing bathrooms/toilets are very clean and sanitised by the owner.
Price is just in the range. There are many homestay lr airbnb has cheaper rate but if for the location & convenience, definitely will go for this place!
Great location and Sam and his wife are always on hand to help with any questions you have. Bed is huge and extremely comfortable. Good size room too.
Not a negative more an observation. I had a window room, but unfortunately the window overlooked the busy road so it was very loud. Thankfully I had earplugs with me. I’m sure if I had asked they would have moved me but I was happy to have the window. So just a note that if you do choose this room make sure you bring earplugs.
Perfect location. Super close to delicious restaurants and bars on Jalan Abell as well as the free bus to Semonggeh. 15-20 minute walk to the Kuching waterfront. Safe neighborhood. After weeks or travelling, we also loved the oatmeal and peanut butter and fresh fruit at breakfast. Most of all, amazing owners who immediately make you feel at home and help to foster a friendly community atmosphere. Worth every penny for the people you meet and friends you make as long as you’re willing to put yourself out there. We loved Marco Polo and can’t wait to come back!
VERY STRATEGIC IN THE CITY CENTRE
NO COMMENT
A real gem in Kuching! This is everything you could ask for from a guest house - comfortable room, nice relaxing communal area and, above all, the hosts are extremely friendly and welcoming. They are always around and happy to chat, recommending things to do and places to go to in the area. The value for money too is exceptional and the location is perfect. Would happily come back to Kuching just to stay here again!
The staff was friendly, we had nice chats. The breakfast was good (self service of toasts, fruit, coffee/tea, cereals). The terrace is nice, which was a plus because our room didn't have any window. We felt like home.
The hosts Sam, Selda and Jane go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable! They are really open, helpful and knowledgeable about Kuching and Sarawak and help you explore the region on a budget. Marco Polo feels like our second home in Kuching! They have everything a traveler may need & more. Lovely buffet style breakfast, including müsli, fruit, toast, different spreads, eggs, coffee, tea and a daily changing extra. The rooms are well furnished and have king size beds. The kitchen is well equipped including a osmosis filter. The entire Guesthouse is beautifully and authentically decorated. Very good laundry service, plus they even fixed my pants. The location in the 'artsy' Pandungan neighbourhood is great. There is a small economical food court, just across the street just as many shops, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets. It's only 10-15 min walking to the waterfront.
Nothing
The guest house is run down and dirty. The price is same than hotels around. Really dishonest.
It's my second time staying here. The hostel offers a welcoming and comfortable stay, thanks to its friendly and accommodating owner. The rooms and common areas are kept spotlessly clean, creating a pleasant and hygienic environment. Despite being conveniently located near various restaurants, the hostel remains quiet and peaceful, making it an ideal place to relax after a long day of exploring. Whether you're a solo traveler or visiting with friends, this hostel provides a cozy and enjoyable experience.
Satisfied, can't think of any of the cons so far.
Staff was very friendly and the room was exceptionally clean.
Superfriendly owners! The terras is a nice relaxing place and it's so quiet at night, We felt like at home...o
Sangat selesa, tuan rumah very informative. Thanks Sam & Jane. Really appreciate your hospitality. Love your place...
Nothing.
My hosts were friendly, helpful and gave good travel advice. My room was quiet, clean and the guesthouse was conveniently located near local attractions .
Lovely communal space in the homestay with good shower facilities and optional breakfast
We booked a private room with AC but unfortunately left a day early as the room was like a sweat box even with the AC on 16. No windows, very little ventilation. We spoke to someone else that stayed here and they said their room was okay so maybe we just got a bad room
Sam and Jane are exceptional! And I enjoyed talking with them. Good people. Not new but SUPER CLEAN. Other like minded guest.
i loved familiar environment
Good location, nice owners, everything as expected
Would have preferred to have an external window in the room
The couple who run the guest house are so friendly. They help you with everything you want to know and tells you a lot about the culture.
Nothing!
Everything was great there.
The house is well-decorated with some historical pictures and beautiful paintings of original Kuching. It is a traditional and typical Chinese house (I think), and always let me feel easy and comfortable. Also, let me understand and experience the early Chinese life in Kuching.
The house location is good and full of many delicious and traditional Kuching Chinese food court nearby.
Breakfast is very good, though simple but delicious. I enjoy it very much.
I like the entrance to be honest..XD Will repeat for sure !
Very friendly staff, especially Samuel. God bless you! Location is perfect in the center of Kuching. Breakfast was ok. Free water refill option is available: also for coffee and tea. According to some reviews about the tourism tax: it appears that there are some problems with the combination of Booking.com and the tax. We spoke with the owner and he will contact Booking.com. It's not his fault, something is not properly registered.
Shared bathrooms could be cleaner, but that's normal with sharing rooms :p Some loud noises of other people in the corridor in the early morning, but that's also normal with situations like these.
Everything is good
All good
The staff was super friendly and the breakfast very decent. The location was great, too.
There are three cats in the hostel, and this was not mentioned anywhere. I have an allergy, so it was pretty challenging even though the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me. Their understanding was very much appreciated 🐱
Really friendly and social hostel with clean rooms and a good breakfast :)
The location is good, easy walk to the city center. Breakfast was good with a lot of choices. The host really tries to connect the staying people. Also there is a hot shower
The guesthouse could be cleaner, the bathroom but also the area in the hostel. In our room there was no window for fresh air
The ladies of the hostel are nice. The place is quite dark and over prized. You get a better room with own bathroom for less just around the corner.
We visit Malaysia for 38 years - this is the most unfriendly hostel owner we ever came across. He is a shame for the good people of Sarawak. We prepaid the room with booking.com and it said in the Pricing Information that the Tourist Tax was included. We checked in and bought 2 beers and 1 water which we paid with a 50 MYR bill. Enter the hostel owner. He screamed at my wife and claimed that he cancelled the contract with booking and does not get paid by them. So he just kept the change (30 MYR). My wife was in tears because he screamed at her so rude. When we checked with the Tourist information they called him and again he screamed at the lady calling. He is super aggressive to women - and lied again about his contract being cancelled and not receiving money. A scary place with a nightmare owner. We were so glad to leave. Plus we ended up with paying the Tourist Tax twice. A very bad experience.
Charming and good location. A simple breakfast was provided. Nice small seating area to meet other travelers.
Something was always broken in the shared bathrooms. Either the toilet did not flush, or there was no hot water, or the tap of the hand washer did not work. It needs some fixing. The air conditioner worked but it took a long time to get the room to an acceptable level. When the owners were out, you could not buy drinks.
The guesthouse is well located, close to various bus stops and the waterfront. The single room is large and clean, with a window, a small table with a chair and even a lockable closet. It's a bit loud in the morning, the garbage collection comes very early and the walls aren't quite as soundproof, but I still found it very nice. Sam had offered that I could either take this room or one without a window, but I stayed in the one with a window. The mattress was actually a bit hard, but that was the case in other accommodations too, so maybe that's normal. The owners Sam and Jane are super nice, helpful and always open to a conversation and always have tips and information to hand. The breakfast was also plentiful and lovingly prepared. The stay is rounded off by the sweet and sometimes playful furry friends. Most of the guests were friendly, communicative and considerate. I felt very comfortable and would choose it again.
Very relaxed sitting area! Nice breakfast.
Room with no window
Lovely couple...Great location, excellent price quality
Really nice staff and owners. Very helpful and hospitable. Comfortable beds. Easy to meet other travellers. Great breakfast.
I'm a very light sleeper so everything wakes me up and walls are really thin.
This is such a good place. Sam is terrific and so is his wife, whose name I always get wrong. Warm, friendly and helpful. This was my second booking there, and a friend of theirs was painting a mural on the reception area wall while I was there - he was also a great cook. There were cats (this is Kuching!)
It was a delight staying with Sam and co. A very welcoming place
Jane and Sam are warm, engaging and considerate hosts who'll do their very best to ensure that you enjoy your stay with them and in Kuching! The breakfast is great (for a guesthouse) with oats, fruits, fried noodles/rice, eggs and spreads, the guesthouse charming and cosy (albeit a bit rundown), and only 15min walk from the waterfront. It's also a great place to meet other travellers, if you're so inclined:)
Great breakfast with plenty of options everyday. Very large rooms with good AC and Wifi which makes it great for long stays. It's also in a great location, with plenty of coffee shops and restaurants around. Only 10 min walk to waterfront. Owners are also very friendly and very helpful in organizing trips. Sometimes, the owner did take us out to one of the local food courts for dinner.
I think maybe he could have given discount for longer stays. Also, toilets were dirty sometimes.
Hostel is in good location, supermarket and restaurants nearby and waterfront only a 10-15 min walk. Basic breakfast is provided and there is a lot of information about the national parks and sightseeing. Very social atmosphere, and two hostel cats :) Rooms are basic but spacious. AC is not very strong but ok.
Hosts were sometimes not available and the bathrooms were quite dirty throughout the day, as there were only two for the entire hostel.
This is an authentic old school Kuching place, very laid back. The breakfast is great, they serve awesome coffee. What makes this place special is that Sam and his wife go out of their way to accommodate you. Sam even arranged a personal guide and driver arranged for a national park that was far away. Lots of inexpensive, good Chinese and Malaysian good in the area. Also a good spot to meet other backpackers, to split tours and friendship of course! I would definitely stay again!
You better like cats, there are several!
The owners of the hostel are some of the friendliest people we have met on our trip, really helpful for planning our excursions and overall great to chat to. The hostel has great facilities, breakfast in the morning and the rooms are comfortable and bathrooms are clean. Great atmosphere and plenty to do in and around Kuching.
We loved this hostel. Sam and his wife (sorry I can't remember your name, it was a while ago now!) are fantastic. So helpful and friendly and automatically feel right at home. Help to plan things and so much information. We were there as a rafflesia flower bloomed and we rented sams van and a group of us went off. Was great. It's very easy to get to bako from here (stay at least one night and leave big packs here). The first room we had the bed wasn't so comfortable but we asked to move and the second bed was so comfy. Shared bathrooms with good showers and enough of them so never had to wait. And a lovely communal kitchen and sitting area. We met lots of friendly people here who we then met up with along the way on our trip. Best breakfast we had in borneo. Thoroughly recommend.
Our room didn't have an external window but that is quite normal it seems in borneo as we had a lot like this on our trip. And it did have a little nightlight by the bed which was great for the morning. Apart from that nothing to dislike.
The owner and his wife are local and really helpful with sorting out whatever you need. We ended up renting his van last minute to do a trip down to the Annah Rais longhouse and hot springs. The private room was comfortable and the place has a lot of character. It's right by a bunch of great restaurants, including, one of my favorite - Rice King.
Wooden beds crashed, room walls leaking due to heavy rain
