The location, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. We loved the breakfasts and evening meals. A very vibrant sunny weekend when we stayed.
We really liked the property and found nothing to dislike. If we were being very picky the step outside our room wobbles underfoot.
Great location and very quiet at night
Stayed here for 3 nights. Location on the Church Green was fabulous, 2 minute walk to main street, great location for touring the area and 12 minutes from Clarkesons pub. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent.
Nothing
The staff were lovely and the breakfast was very good, the location was excellent for us.
The room was disappointing for the money extremely dated with tired furnishings and not very clean.
Good location, good food, good service
Rather tired, needs some tlc and a lick of paint. Pricey for the quality but probably on a par for the location. Limited wine list and no real ale available for our visit
Quirkiness of the building
No fault
Staff and food was good
The whole hotel, rooms and restaurant were very tired and in need of an upgrade. Shower didn't have any door seals and water poured out onto the floor,. Our bathroom was dirty and nowhere to put toiletries in bathroom and shower. Bedroom even had wallpaper peeling off the wall and needs updating and needs hanging space and shelving to put things on. TV badly positioned. Step outside bedroom bad as everytime we stepped in it it sounded like it was going give way! The exterior of the whole hotel needs found up! The ladies off the restaurant was disgusting!!! Broken toilet seat and very dirty
Ideal location comfortable bed and modern bathroom
Lovely pub. Great location, with nice outdoor seating areas. Bit dated though. Nice food although a bit expensive in my opinion. Good selection of drinks. Friendly staff-one moved their car so we could get a space in the car park thank you! Rooms: family room was huge plenty of space and no stairs to climb. Right next door to the pub itself. Really comfy beds, an air con machine and fans 😀 crisp clean white sheets on bed and comfy pillows.
-needed a hacksaw to get through the triple fried potatoes on the roast dinner 😳 please change these as they completely spoiled an otherwise amazing roast! -not much sleep in room because it smelled awful....damp and fusty (I am picky about sleep though) something really needs to be done with the smell in that room it just kept me awake all night. -room was dusty (top of tv, radiator bars on towel rad in bathroom etc) mirrors smeared and glass hadn't been cleaned on shower door. More attention needed to cleanliness.
The bar staff and front of house
Unclean room paint cracking and peeling from ceiling , windows screwed shut do we could not open , mould and peeling paint in Ensuite
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Will recommend to all my family & friends.
The location and overall standard of the hotel
The socket outlet on one side of the bed did not work. This meant I had no bedside light and was unable to charge my phone on my side of the bed. This was reported to reception on the morning of departure.
Well positioned for Wintney. Free off road secure parking.
Room was very hot but I put that down to exceptional weather we are having. There were two fans provided but really needs aircon
Location
Room hot window did not open fan noisy poor sleep
Klassisk engelsk inn
The location, the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff.
Ganz tolles Landhotel. Nette Mitarbeiter. Ausgezeichnetes Abendessen und Frühstück. Wir sind Abends sehr schön draußen gesessen. Lage optimal.
We live in Witney and have visited The Fleece many times over the years. Unfortunately, our last visit was a very unpleasant experience. There was a large group of us, and we spent well over £500, yet we were insulted by being accused of having had too much to drink. It left a very bad impression. We decided to give it another chance today, but sadly nothing has changed. The management came across as rude and unwelcoming. The toilets were also disgusting. They didn’t even have the correct toilet roll to fit the dispenser, so the roll had been left on the back of a unit where you can’t even reach it properly while sitting on the toilet. It’s a basic standard that should be expected. For a pub that’s supposed to be one of the nicest in Witney, it was a huge disappointment. The prices are high, but the customer service and cleanliness simply don’t justify them. We’re very disappointed and won’t be returning. It’s a shame, as we’ve spent a lot of our hard-earned money here over the years, but the poor attitude and declining standards have lost us as customers.
Thank you for the wonderful food. Great atmosphere last night, we had an amazing evening catching up with friends. The staff were fantastic and Dan's banter was just the best. Think we all got a telling off 😂 see you again on our next visit. Ps the Provencal Rose was too nice. X
Loved it. Exactly what a pub with rooms should be. Good room, great breakfast and lovely staff.
The location was great. Room was small but had everything we needed.
The only downside was the shortage of staff in the morning when we wanted to order breakfast, so we gave up and went into town.
Good location, room 4 was a nice size with easy access, nice shower.
No easy access to charging points, couldn’t connect to the WiFi.
Great location with parking onsite.
Can be noisy with music playing outside until about 11pm. The beds are uncomfortable, they are hard and you roll i to the centre of the bed.
Location and staff
The room was roasting, to be fair, not really a downside, as the weather was incredibly hot the couple of days we stayed.
My husband and I had a fantastic overnight stay at The Fleece in Witney on Friday. It's located in a really charming street not far from the main shopping area. It really well appointment, clean, good selection of drinks from the bar and a lovely little terrace out the front where we spent most of our time. We had a king size room in the old stable building next to the main pub which was lovely and spacious with a decent bathroom and good shower. Perfect for what we needed. The staff are really what make this places special. In particular Sam who tending to us for most of our stay. He's a real asset. We would definitely return.

Steps
The rooms are lovely and clean. The breakfast is amazing. This is the second time I have stayed as my brother lives in the area. Previously we had 2 rooms. Would recommend but bear in mind there are stairs to get to your romms.
It looked like a lovely pub and was busy and food that was being served looked good
We were due to stay but unfortunately changed our mind as our room not attached to the pub and was dark dingy and smelt extremely damp . It was not what we were expecting when booking a night away. The door in was straight off the drive into the car park at the back and the paint was all chipped and not somewhere I would choose to sleep for the night. We were very disappointed 😔
Great room, staff were lovely.Food in the restaurant was good.
A delightful pub/hotel overlooking a grassy area, perfectly situated in the pleasant small village of Witney. All of the staff were really nice and friendly. The pub was generally very busy with diners which indicates good food although we didn't eat in. There is an outside area both front and rear to sit and a car park for guests. The room was spacious although maybe a little dated which is more than likely in keeping with the theme as it is a grade 2 listed building. A sash window which needs a little device to stop it falling down(easy to do) A large shower room/WC with a wonderful walk in shower. The shower itself I feel would benefit from either a shower mat or a rail as it is large and the base does get slippy. You need to be very careful also a shelf to put your shower gel etc. would be helpful. You need to keep bending down. The cabinet doors in the shower room were a little worn. The bed we found was uncomfortable (two beds put side by side), a little lumpy. The pillows were too soft for us. The mirror on the wall was filthy. The wardrobe mirror was good. A good tv on the wall. Tea and coffee making supplies. All in all a good stay.
Good location, good beer and great food. Staff, especially Daniel and the young Australian barman, were top class
We were in room 2, whilst it was comfortable the decor could do with updating and the blind fixed to the window correctly
Very well located and food quality, menu variety excellent.
Not a dislike but For older people some of the rooms are upstairs which are quite steep and narrow. Staff assisted with luggage.
After a lovely day enjoying the local area. Our Sunday roast was ruined by loud audio coming from a phone. It was perants letting they child watch cartoon on full volume. I asked a member of staff if they could ask them to turn it down not off i thought this was a reasonable request. Should not have to hear people phones in a pub/ restaurant. The member of staff stated he would not do this as it was a family friendly pub. I expect family to be in pubs particularly on a Sunday but i done see how allowing audio on full volume is a family friendly policy. As a result didn’t enjoy the meal which was not cheap. We would have stayed longer and got desert if the situation could have been different
Very friendly professional staff who made us very welcome. Table outside with a pretty view of the church , green and lovely stone cottages . Menu had a great selection of interesting choices to tempt even the fussiest diner! The Sunday roast was superb, beautiful rare beef the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever seen gorgeous roast potatoes and veg cooked to perfection . The special of Seabass with Butterbean fennel and glorious salad was to die for.! absolutely superb ! Can get very busy so book a table and don’t miss out on this little gem of an establishment . Thank you to all staff we will definitely return.
We had a brilliant meal at the Fleece - and the service was fantastic. A special thank you to Sam who made us laugh so much. Sam - you have an amazing sense of humour. Thank you
This is the best of English pub experiences. The bedrooms are ok, nothing great, a wee bit down at heal, but perfectly good, clean and spacious. The pub itself is great. Excellent selection of drinks, fantastic menu and super staff. Service levels off the scale. Genuinely helpful, friendly, efficient and kind. I will always aim to stay here when working in the area.
Perfect location for a family wedding we were attending. The bedroom was very comfortable and clean and every member of staff was friendly and accommodating to our requests
Not so much that we didn’t like, but the bedroom (room 4) dated and the bathroom (basin unit) very tatty. We also hired The Green Room for a small family gathering but the decor was poor with torn/damaged wall paper and old furniture. Buffet food okay, not outstanding but we did very much appreciate the friendliness and helpful team
Personal agradable, habitación y baño amplios, no se oían nada de ruidos y la cama era muy cómoda. Tenían detalles de bienvenida
No hubo nada que no me gustase
Attentive, helpful and engaging staff who made you feel really welcome and would go the extra mile if you needed something. Good quality food and generous portions - especially good breakfasts!
A little coat of paint just to spruce up would be good but hardly a show stopper.
Nothing
Stayed at the fleece for 3 nights and we had a great stay Room comfy (mind your head in the bathroom) Bed was massive and comfy Tea coffee available fresh milk at the bar when you want it Breakfast the best I’ve had for a long time and tasty and very hot Staff always seemed happy to help and cheery Ate 1st night food was good Parking can be busy but we managed to find a space All in all worth the money (book direct )
Location atmosphere great Breakfast Sam who served us had a good sence of humour Friendly Quiet location slept well
Nothing
The service was very good. Breakfast was great!
The room is a family room, which is situated right next to the outside area for the pub. Not ideal when you have a child and the noise outside doesn’t stop until gone 11pm. The room was clean but is quite worn in places so could do with some tidying up.
We liked staying at The Fleece, the staff were pleasant and helpful. Food very good, and varied menu. We had a lovely weekend and would recommend The Fleece.
The rooms were a good size but could do with having an extra chair/armchair. In the bathroom, the shower screen let water under it and onto the floor, while in the shower
I stayed 2 years ago. First the good news - staff were friendly and very accommodating, could not be better, the food was delightful. The location is perfect, the beer a delight. Parking was good. The rooms and restaurant carpet were tired and need (IMO) an update. Shower was great and sheets were crisp and clean. Even the weather was great!
We came to visit our friend who has moved back to her home town of Witney. My significant other booked our accommodation so had no idea what to expect but I knew it would be good and boy was it. Small, intimate , warm and cozy with a nod to the past and a big hello to now. The room was spacious, great size TV and a stunning bathroom...dinner/drinks both superb and the full English breakfast is a real winner, locally sourced sausages and Irish black pudding, stunning but the real star of this establishment are the staff. Everyone we interacted with were just the nicest, friendliest people who seem genuinely happy to work there, a particular shout out to Sam who has the most kind and infectious personality...a great stay!
Great location, excellent food and drink options. Nice rooms, spacious and in good decorative order. Super helpful staff and especially Sam who facilitated breakfast and was attentive and friendly.
Great location to explore the Cotswolds or make a day trip to Oxford. Staff is very very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is of good quality and a lot choices on the menu. Bed was comfy and room is fine. Free parking behind the building is very convenient.
Room could use a little TLC. The night entrance to the building has a musky smell and seems like it had a mold problem. Not a big issue for us, since you just use it to get to your room quickly. But it should get some attention.
Location
Parking should be prioritised for residents
Mooie locatie met heerlijke Engelse sfeer.
Niets.
The hotel was lovely & warm The beds were comfortable The staff were friendly
Twin beds were quite narrow but we didn’t fall out so all ok
The room was nice and large and a nice comfortable bed good shower
The room was a ‘bit tired’ and the extractor fan in the shower was not working
Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Coffee was delicious. All the staff were lovely
The staff were brillient friendyl and helpful
The wholo place was a bit shabby, in desparate need of a face lift
This is the 2nd time this week we've been to The Fleece. I had the cod special tonight and it was beautifully cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive
The staff were really accommodating and helpful. The service and food was great. The stay it's self was good. Only thing is the rooms could do with a little tlc but didn't affect the stay, overall clean and tidy.
Charming and welcoming
We arrived for a Valentine’s booking and was shown to a lovely table where Fia came and took our order and laughed at all our rubbish jokes. The food was great and the service was better even amending my order after I forgot to order peppercorn sauce. Great staff, good food. Overall very lovely
Staff superb.

It was quite near to the kitchen company that we needed to visit and the town itself was nice
The breakfast was Luke warm and not value fur money as was £20.00 per person and we waited a long time for it .our room had clean sheets but the window cills were dirty and windows and the room needed an update !! Our friends however had a decent room.
We have visited The Fleece several times but have never eaten there. Our waitress Fia was amazing so happy and friendly but most importantly she knew everything about the menu and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also really good and tasty, the only criticism was that the plates were cold.
Room old but acceptable, everything else good
there was a smell as you went up the stairs to the 1st floor
Amazing place to stay. Most enjoyable i've stayed at for a while. Great food at dinner and breakfast. Lovely room too. The customer service was brilliant throughout.
Just a lovely stay, lovely staff
The food and the service were very nice. Your Guinness was a welcome relief as in the US it doesn’t quite taste the same…. The hotel and food service people were 100% nice!
Our room window carried sound and smoke from the patio garden. It would be helpful for the owners to install hand bars for easier access in and out of tub/shower! Perhaps a permanent glass fixture (screen) for tub/shower
Hi room was lovely but would have like natural light apart from sky lights, felt a bit costraphobic.
No natural light, or fruity tea bags
All the staff were excellent, the rooms were lovely and clean. The food has something to offer for everyones taste. Great location.
Good tasty food at reasonable prices. Served hot as was the coffee. We at on a Saturday lunchtime, we didn't stay at the hotel.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Booking was very straightforward.
Friendly staff, very welcoming. We left something in the room & they called to let us know so we could collect it which was very appreciated. Rooms were nicely decorated & breakfast was very tasty with good portion sizes
Towel heater in one of the rooms didn’t work properly, making the bathroom quite cold
The staff were always willing to help no matter what. Food was excellent, rooms are comfortable and a very central location. Highly recommended
Beautiful area.
The whole pub/hotel is tired and needs a good lick of paint
Wry
The staff who run the Fleece were lovely and very accommodating. The food in the restaurant was of a good standard and so was the quality of the wine. The location is beautiful.
There was a very poor flush on the lavatory in our bathroom. It felt like the waste pipe may have a blockage someway down the line before our stay, which was certainly evident when we first and subsequently tried to use it. The bathroom was very cold with no discernable heating. There was a lack of extra obvious power sockets where we could charge our devices without choosing between Kettle, TV or extra heating on a very cold night.
I have visited this pub twice in December once with a large group having the standard Christmas menu and again on Christmas Eve with family, whee we had the standard menu and Christmas menu. The service from all staff was very efficient and friendly where nothing was too much trouble. The food was reasonably priced and very good quality. I would highly recommend Thd Fleece.
Another fantastic meal! We booked the private room for a large pre-Christmas family gathering, and it didn’t disappoint. The service was super friendly, and the food was outstanding. Despite a tricky booking with multiple allergies and changes to the set menu, everything was accommodated with a smile. The foot was really good and everyone enjoyed it. For the first time, we also stayed overnight. The room was lovely, spacious, and very comfortable. We brought our 4 legged family member and the dog bed and bag with treats and a ball was so sweet. We also had breakfast the next day, and that veggie haggis is absolutely delicious – always a highlight. Thanks again – we’ll be booking again soon! Happy Christmas 🎄
Spacious room with lots of light . Lots of water , coffeee and biscuits which was excellent thank you .
Pipe in the bathroom a little noisy after flushing toilet for about 5mins . Only blip.
Great location, very friendly staff 👍 👌
Car parking very limited.
Good location
Tired looking and bed very very uncomfortable
Le personnel était très disponible, l'emplacement est parfait, avec un pub/restaurant au rez de chaussée
Les toilettes étaient bruyantes et longues a se remplir ce qui pouvait déranger pendant la nuit.
Tea tray and biscuits - excellent
Nothing
We had a really lovely meal…great food and a fab atmosphere! The bar staff were friendly and really efficient on a busy evening. Our table waitress was attentive and charming…unfortunately I didn’t get her name but she was an absolute credit to The Fleece! Unfortunately our evening was ruined by Daniel…he was extremely rude and dismissive towards us. This is such a shame as aside from him I would have rated 5 stars.
Lovely location. Visited on our first night on holiday and was a lovely meal. Really nice restaurant area and the food was lovely, especially the croquettes. Service was lovely and really enjoyed the visit. There was also a lovely beer garden, but was just a bit too cold to sit outside on our visit.
Have stayed before , and have always enjoyed
We had such a fantastic time – and it was all thanks to Daniel! His hilarious humour had us laughing from start to finish. Honestly, we weren’t sure if we’d booked a dinner or a comedy show – either way, it was brilliant! The food was absolutely superb – not one moan - every dish was delicious. It’s rare to find a place where both the service and the food are outstanding, but this was one of those gems. Daniel is a true star – someone give him a pay rise so he doesn’t leave! We’ll definitely be returning.
The staff were excellent
The room needs upgrading window in bathroom moldy and didn’t open, couldn’t turn radiator off curtain not hanging properly
