Lovely room, great hotel, staff were great and food was delicious
Great location for us, room comfortable, food good
Disabled parking spaces taken by work trucks. Very frustrating
LOCATION AND CLEANLINESS
No breakfast available. Booking.com not updating the hotel of the change to our booking which caused a 30 min delay on check-in.
Everything I needed
No air conditioning
Lovely room, comfortable and plenty of parking.
Spacious bathroom but very basic. Should have a better sink vanity unit for that price.
The staff were lovely, there has been a lot of effort to make it seem like an upper class establishment. It was perfectly okay for the one night.
The mattress was the main issue, it was uncomfortable and it smelt like bleach, to the point the smell woke us up. We knew we'd be woken up by the patrons of the pub, and we were woken up by them leaving but it was short and quick and expected as it was a bank holiday Friday night. The shower did have a dripping sound also and the TV kept losing signal. The coffee machine was also a bit broken but still managed to get a coffee in the morning. Perfect fine for one night but not the best
Samantha was very helpfull and made us feel very welcome, the whole team where very freindly.
We didn’t stay as it was so awful
The photos on the web site were nothing like the actual property
Staff very friendly, and couldn’t do more for us. Very clean, and comfortable. There was an issue with our room, when we spoke to the staff they resolved it straight away.
Location was good and had a nice bar. Rooms were nice (although no air con and couldn’t open the windows - just had a pedestal fan to try and keep the room cool).
No air con Didn’t serve breakfast - just left to make our own way out Couldn’t open bedroom windows
Room was clean and quiet. It had a nice pub restaurant but we didn’t use this due to going to a family event. The grounds were nice and clean and plenty of parking and the staff were inviting on arrival.
The only thing I would like to see is breakfast on site especially as they have the facilities to do this with them already providing meals there. We stayed here a few years ago and was hoping feedback was listened to concerning breakfast but even without it we had a peaceful night sleep in comfortable rooms .
Nice room, comfortable bed.
Very noisy. Even though we were told that the doors were shut at 11pm and no staff would be on the premises, there was very loud music playing and staff in the bar until at least 2am.
Location
Over priced & no breakfast, not even an easy continental breakfast. This is a place that serves lunches & evening meals so should be easy to do breakfast
Uitstekende locatie voor een bezoek aan Oxford. De S1 bus stopt voor de deur en brengt je in een half uur naar het centrum van Oxford. Fijn terras en zeer vriendelijke bediening.
De kamer (no 6) was heel comfortabel. Goed bed. Het was alleen erg warm omdat de schuiframen niet open blijven. Gelukkig is er een ventilator voor verkoeling.
Hotel wasable to accomodate our request for twin beds, rather than a double. Good meals!
Weather was a bit hot.
Bed and bedding comfortable, staff very nice, dinner at restaurant was great. I would stay here again
We were here during the heatwave, and all windows were closed when we got into the room. It was really hot. The windows just barely open. We had the room in the corner so at least we had a little breeze coming through.
Location
No breakfast
Friendly staff.
Check-in took a little while but once a staff member got round to seeing us they were very friendly.
Situated within walking distance to the lovely village, full of nice shops, cafés and pubs. Beautiful place to go and visit.
Not something that can be changed due to the property being Older, but you do get some noise from the road at night. As it was hot, we had to have the windows open. I’m not bothered by this, but it could be a problem for some.
For me the location is perfect for visiting friends and family in Witney. I have stayed here for a few days for the last 5 years and this was my best stay to date. Everyone was very friendly the menu and food was very good we had something from the menu every night excellent.
The rooms are looking a bit dated now. The rooms have everything you need for your stay. There well looked after and very clean.
Rooms were comfortable and clean
Perfect for what we needed. Very comfortable beds. Nice tea and coffee
breakfast wasnt included in our stay, although I thought we had paid for it originally to be included
Staff were lovely and friendly. Clean and just what we wanted.
There is no breakfast served which would have been nice but there is a lovely cafe across the road
It had parking on site, the rooms were modern and comfortable and the staff very helpful.
The music in the bar was very loud
Spacious,clean and comfortable
The price for 1 night was on the high side and didn't even come with a full English breakfast.
Excellent supervisor in restaurant and when booking in (Sam)
Wax paper in trays under the steak and chicken. Absolute nonsense! Ended up eating bits of it. Get a grip and stop using that crap! Rooms need some kind of aircon
Beautifully converted period property with sensitive country finishes. Spacious room with complimentary breakfast bars as well as Nespresso machine coffee and water. A fan was provided and the location was perfect for visiting The Farmer's Dog.
The sash windows didn't had anything to keep them open, this would have improved natural ventilation in the room and bathroom.
Very friendly, welcoming staff. Clean room with tasteful decor and furnishings. Powerful shower. Great location. Comfy bed.
Nothing really. An iron in the room could have been handy, but not a real problem.
Located on the A40 near Witney. Ideal location for Oxford and surrounding areas.
Booked a twin room through Booking.com but this was passed to the Evenlode as a generic double room. In future we'll book direct. All rooms are upstairs not easy to access for anyone with mobility issues.
Parking. Helpful staff
Rooms are modern and well decorated and maintained
We booked for dinner and was told when we sat down that we had 15 minutes to order as the kitchen was closing. Wish I was informed of this sooner
Overall the staff were lovely, and couldn't have been more helpful (especially when we had an issue where we'd lost a mobile phone - now safely found), and the location was good, worked well for what we needed, and was really easy to find and convenient for getting around. The room was spacious, and well decorated, and the bed fairly comfortable!
Whilst well decorated and comfortable the rooms cleanliness wasn't brilliant. Yes - the sheets were clean, the floor had been hoovered and the likes but things like the shower head was in need of descaling, the bathroom overall could use some TLC at a glance it looked clean but up close the corners of the shower were grimy, even the (apparently refilled/reused) soap dispenser was gunked up, the window opening mechanism was broken on one of the windows and the room itself smelt strongly of 'dog' when we arrived. We wholeheartedly accept that the property is pet friendly, but we wound up leaving the one window we could open, open, whilst we were out for dinner, and had to take the fragrance diffuser out of the bathroom and leave in the main room to negate the smell - which was successful. Finally, and I accept these are likely things that the property can't do much about: - you are right on a busy (and therefore noisy) road which did at times keep us both up - the smoke detectors in the room flash intermittently all night and the flash is SO bright, to the extent when I stirred in the night I thought it was lightening, the whole room lit up!
Lovely room and friendly staff.
Too noisy for me. The music was too loud from downstairs and very loud when people leaving outside.
Staff, room was nice
Constant intermittent loud noises from the room below room 7 throughout the entire night. Sounded like an electric drill drilling into a brick wall at one point. I was woken up at 12.30am and was kept awake all night. Plus there was a bright light, like the light from a phone torch, flashing from the smoke detector every 20 seconds throughout the night. Plus there was an awful sewer smell in the bathroom. Not a good stay at all. If I had brought ear plugs, an eye mask and an air freshener I may have had a better stay. Refund would be appreciated.
Location, cost, decor, food, staff, parking
Load music at night which I wasn’t expecting
Rooms were nice with comfortable beds, good shower and brewing facilities. Had a great meal in the hotel restaurant The Firehouse in the evening too. Perfect for our one night stay.
Only slight issue was that there was nowhere to hang clothes. There was a clothes rail but no hangers. Not a big deal for our one night stay but may be an issue for others.
Good location
Nothing
Location was good for Oxford
Original room was unavailable and so got downgraded to a room where the heating was on full bore and couldn't be changed. I left at 9pm and didn't stay as it was so unbearably hot.
Friendly staff had a nice bedroom which was very comfortable
Quite noisy from traffic and loud music playing . Bed could have been it bit bigger . Bathroom quite small so little room to move
Location
There is a drainage issue. We told it would be fixed but it wasn’t. Had to swap rooms and was compensated which was fair. The site has no onsite reception team. So reporting issues is a phone call. New room had occasional drainage smell but that might be to do with the weather and age of the building.
Warm welcome, cozy atmosphere, good value, clean tidy professional but relaxing environment.
I have no complaints
Good food. Location. Friendly staff. .
Couldn't turn radiator off in room so very at night. No ale on tap.
Friendly staff and welcoming check in
Good location and on-site restaurant very nice. Comfortable nicely decorated room
No breakfast available on site
The room was very well appointed with a very comfortable bed, double aspect windows that provided plenty of fresh air. The room also had a large TV, a fan, hair dryer, nespresso coffee maker and tea making facilities with breakfast bars and biscuits. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the room was very clean. The bathroom was very nice and shower was excellent. It has lovely beer gardens and is ideally located close to most Cotswolds areas, Oxford and Bicester.
They could have served breakfast.
Lovely building, comfy bed.
Overpriced, no hot water for a shower.
Very friendly and cheerful staff. Request for a quiet room was met with no disturbance overnight. Easy parking but access off A40 is a bit tight if coming from Witney as need to cross busy carriageway. Very convenient for the Farmer's Dog though!!
Good location by the main A40.
The pub is very popular, so it is quite noisy, music on late etc. They do not do breakfast, which is not indicated anywhere, a self service coffee and tea machine plus some croissants in the bar would fix this. There were a few small snags in the room, but nothing worth listening here.
Nice in pics and nicely designed but needed some tlc now (Carpets felt dirty Had to open windows and put on fan as room was so hot No air con Bathroom was ok but grout need to be cleaned / scrubbed )
Helpful staff and room excellent, clean with giod facilities
N/A
The staff were absolutely fantastic, very friendly and helpful
The lock on the hotel door was broken, which led to me being locked out on my first night. Luckily, my partner was inside and could open it from there, however on the second day we were both out, so I had to contact the hotel to fix it, otherwise we would be locked out overnight. The bathroom flooded when you used the shower, and also let off a strong sewage smell. Also, we were unable to control the radiator from our room - it was sweltering hot when we went to bed, but the radiator turned off overnight and it was freezing in the morning.
Good location
Rooms need double glazed windows. Too much road noise from the A40
Food was lovely as were the staff. Location to where we were visiting was great.
No breakfast but knew that in advance. Main showerhead (not the detachable one) needed a good clean, had mold on it as did a few of the shower tiles. Bleach would get rid of it easily. More Christmas decorations!! Overall stay was nice.
Lovely room, comfortable beds, plenty of parking and great restaurant/bar too- the food was lovely!
This wasn’t a problem for us as we were awake but it’s fairly noisy until 11 when the restaurant and bar close and staff arrive from 8 to start cleaning.
Very convenient location and perfect stopping point for our trip to the Cotswolds.
Restaurant was average
What I had not appreciated was that there was no breakfast available. But the evening meal was excellent.
When I left there was noone to say did you enjoy your stay. I just left the key on the side as instructed by the cleaner.
Very modern spotless rooms . Staff were more than accommodating and friendly
Nice refurbished room and comfy bed
No warm water at all. Doors super noisy
The room and ensuite was superb, clean, nicely decorated, warm.
Directly above the bed is a fire water sprinkler, on the far side of it, it had a tiny power source light that could be seen in daylight (NOT A PROBLEM) During darkness there were flashing lights to the left and right on the sprinkler, flashing approx every 10 seconds. We do not know if work was still being done overnight, from 11 o'clock until 5.30 in the morning there were continuous drilling sounds. Very disappointed.
Clean, comfortable beds, great shower, good sized room and good value.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bar and restaurant were clean. The food was well presented and tasted great. The owners helped us to get to a wedding on time!
Nothing, it was a great stay.
Nice and clean with a good size room
There was no breakfast due to a refurb but we knew this before booking
Great staff, rooms were lovely, very comfortable and clean. The bar downstairs was great. Location is just a little out of Oxford but there is a bus ride into town. Cannot fault the place, will definitely stay again.
Nothing
The bed was comfortable. No fridge and the table nearly collapsed when I went to lean on it to write a card. The room was very hot and we could not open the window due to the noise from the road.
Comfy beds. Great bathroom and friendly staff. The kitchen was already closed when we arrived. They helped us order pizza and gave us plates and stuff to eat in the bar. Super friendly. Would recommend
Friendly and welcoming staff
Great location. Comfortable & spacious room. Very clean. Lovely, warm staff.
Excellent staff
The room was not deluxe as we had booked. It was shabby and only half decorated. Undercoat had been applied but the final coat had only been put on one and a half of the walls! There appeared to be water damage above the radiator as the plaster was peeling off the wall. The bathroom smelt faintly of sewage and the general condition was very poor.
Lovely little hidden gem - comfy beds and fab shower. Added bonus, it has a pub/restaurant and the food was lovely
Nothing - it was lovely
Friendly staff, clean room and location was perfect.
Biscuits rather than cereal bar please.
Excellent hotel! The rooms were lovely, the bar downstairs was exceptional and friendly. Buses outside for Oxford. Will definitely come back.
Nothing!
It was easy and the staff were really helpful
Good parking
No breakfast available lack of choice on evening menu
We had a mid week stay, so the venue was quiet, does host weddings, and could be noisier at the weekends, Note - Does not currently do breakfast at all. I wasnt sure either way when booking, but there is an awesome venue 300 yards away which was handy
Clean towels. It had a kettle.
Loud staff party until midnight. So loud you could hear the lyrics to every song- whether you wanted to or not. After that - just the loud road traffic . A blessing really after the music.
