The location
The treatment from the staff in reception last night. Didn’t even take their earphones out while welcoming us to the hotel. The beds in the Carnoustie room are awful. Tiny slither of a bed and a horrible loose bed cover foam mattress type thing on top. One of the worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had.
Position, cleanliness, luxurious
Parking is a bit difficult- one must use public parking - which is alao quite scarce (The scrambled eggs at breakfast was also realllllyyy bad)
Breakfast, room and staff were very good. I would visit again.
I asked in advance for a room on the lower levels of the hotel and received a reply saying we would be on the first floor. When we arrived but they didn’t seem to be aware of that and we had to climb to the top. Although we are able it was difficult for my husband who is eighty.
Building with character. Helpful reception staff. Good location for town centre and bus station. Good choices for breakfast.
Little space to put anything down. Complex main lighting with no instructions on switching off completely. Information on tablet much harder to find than flicking through a folder. Overnight staff only contactable by mobile. No TV signal - and not alerted to this.
Central, facilities, breakfast was very good
We were given wrong room @ check in. We unloaded our case & went out for the day. Received a call to advise they had checked us into wrong room. We then had to go back to get new room key. Some items were left in fridge that we had to then ask to be moved. While staff were helpful & apologetic & provided compensation by way of access to spa (for which we couldn’t use as had not brought swim wear) bottle of Prosecco & access to mini bar - which was generous. The room we were moved to had not been cleaned properly. The table & tea/coffee facilities were covered in dust which had clearly need there for some time.. The reception staff were very good, which I can’t fault however the room should have been checked before someone used it.
Cooked breakfast tasted good
There was a fly in the juice at breakfast and it had only just opened There was no hot water and when reception was told about this we were told there was a boiler issue but no solution or apology offered. It also should have been made aware to us that there was an issue not just left to find out by standing in a cold shower messing with it for 10 minutes The internet was slow, tv didn’t work, remote missing, rooms were way too hot and not enough fans or cooling devices. On Main Street so very noisy to sleep I’d expect better with a cheaper stay so for the price it was shocking
very nice location and staff
The location was lovely, staff were terrific, and room was beautiful.
The room was a bit pricy, and breakfast was good but not amazing.
Its situation in St Andrew s
One of the rooms was what I had ordered the 2nd room was not up to the standard of the 1st one. I found this hard to understand as I had paid the same money for both.
Great location
Lovely large room
The menu for breakfast said Scottish breakfast but no Haggis or Black pudding so not really Scottish
location room
breakfast - poor arrangement, sour milk. It felt weird.
The hotel was conveniently located in the centre of town, very clean, well appointed and maintained with friendly, helpful staff and excellent food and service
It was in a good location. It was clean
Pillows not comfortable. No where to put toiletries in bathroom . No drawers to put clothes in. Room too small. Nowhere to put anything. Expensive and not worth the money.
Location.
Terrible coffee but great cafe across the road. Very average breakfast. Hugely overpriced for graduation week which is a shame as it colours our previous stays.
Location is spot on.. Staff are very helpful. Especially Alex on the desk and at breakfast.
They don’t have a lift to the floors but the staff are very happy to put your bags up
The spacious rooms and the breakfast
Quite loud as it facing the street. Also the in between corridor doors are very loud
Emma the receptionist - she was fab, approachable , quick to resolve problems and attentive The Gidi Grill restaurant was amazing (but not sure if this is part of the hotel)
Access- No lift Checking in was a nightmare- repeated issues with their card machines- For £260 /night at minimum I would have expected free access to their spa but no £25 additional charge quote. Incredible! No AC, poor quality fan in the room (also happened to check in on the hottest day of the year so not ideal) No kettle Faulty coffee machine (however thank you to Emma who sourced a suitable replacement...................I didnt have the heart to tell her that the replacement didnt wok either
Location was great
Beds were uncomfortable.
Beautiful boutique hotel, loved the decoration, big bathroom, everything was great.
I stayed at the Eden room, and the only issue was that when the guest from the next room was leaving or coming, the door shut was very noisy inside my room. But the place is great, I loved it and would stay there again. Staff is very kind as well.
Falta Enchufe europeo
Location is fab
Booked 5 star and sent to annex across street ( not 5 star)
Location was great.
It was hot in the room.
The location was very good
Information regarding breakfast was poor . Didn’t show where cereals etc were and only offered a menu. It was short staffed, our hot breakfast was left on the counter for 10 minutes waiting to be delivered . The scrambled eggs were cold and the salmon was poor quality. The wallpaper in our room was bulging and peeling and the furniture looked tired . The toilet paper was difficult to reach properly . Definitely not 5 star I have been in better quality 3 star .
Room was very spacious.
Bed could have been firmer.
Excellant stay, the spa was amazing and the full body massage absolutely wonderful.
That we were across the road from the hotel. Very expensive. Too expensive.
Breakfast was mediocre. Continental selection poor
Spa needs to be included in room rate. Breakfast dissppointing
Breakfast, room and staff
Very centrally located. Clean, well-appointed rooms.
Breakfast was lovely
For the price, the mirror was cracked in bedroom. My daughter who was staying with friend wasn’t feeling well one night and wanted to stay with me; the pull out sofa was broken so she slept on a loveseat then left the next morning and skipped breakfast; not sure that was worth 75 pounds they charged me.
Lovely staff, room was very clean. Enjoyed my stay
Gaps between the door and glass to the sauna so wasn’t actually very hot, Cold draft kept coming through.
It was great.
The location was very convenient. Breakfast was included and it was one of the best I have had on this trip. Our room was very cozy. We had an issue with the heater but more in that later.
The room was 80 degrees when we entered it. We could not turn the thermostat down. We checked with the front desk multiple times and she said to open the window. Once we looked at the heater, there was a dial to turn it down and off. By the time we woke up, the room was 72 degrees. We did sleep with the window open with the fan nearby. Management should educate their front desk staff so they understand all the rooms. Nevertheless, the accommodations were very nice, The breakfast very good and the location perfect.
Large comfortable modern rooms, great location, great breakfast.
There's nothing that we didn't like
The last opening time for sauna and Jacuzzi
Room was great. Very spacious and comfortable.
The food served at lunch and breakfast was averaged at best. The price played was not reflected in the quality.
Spa
we where told at 9 o'clock on the Sunday the bar was closed and we had to go to the bar next door
Location
Annex rooms across the street. Dingy entrance, tired paintwork. More like an average Airbnb property. Breakfast room similar to a premier Inn ( but not as spacious). Breakfast was awful. Nothing cooked to order, just congealed food lifted from trays and served cold. Inedible
Spacious, nice room, good location, receptionist lady taking care of everything: breakfast, reception, cleaning the lobby - and yet she tried her best to make our stay great and remained very friendly.
This is not a 5-star hotel. We booked it for the spa facilities but could not use it as someone booked treatments for that afternoon and it was therefore blocked, and you'd need to pay extra to be able to access it. Breakfast was below average compared to all the other B&Bs we stayed at in Scotland. Cleanliness of the room was not spotless (there was a used towel left in our room and only a little bit of toilet paper left).
Location, room and the staff were fantastic before and during our stay
The breakfast could have been much better
Very comfortable room, although in the annex
The facilities were ok but not offered as a 4star spa hotel should be
Friendly staff Comfortable bed Good sized en-suite Central location
Not 5 star standard Marks on carpet in room No brown bread at breakfast, only white Machine for tea/coffee at breakfast Spa closed at 5 and no pool Seems understaffed
Great customer service, room was clean, well equipped and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and the location is fabulous for all things to see in St Andrews
A very pleasant hotel with a delicious breakfast. Centrally located with all amenities.
The room was nice and spacious and clean.
The room was very hot, it’s central but therefore noisy. You cannot use the spa facilities unless you book a treatment or pay £25 per person for an hour and it’s only a steam room and sauna, seems excessive and should be included in room rate.
Very good central location. Lovely room. Friendly staff.
Continental Breakfast very limited. Cooked breakfast OK. Parking difficult on arrival, but OK later. Restaurant not open as initially indicated.
Great hotel, staff super friendly, room was fantastic for a junior suite, it was much larger than I had expected, fantastic value for a hotel in St Andrews
Nothing
Our room was very nice and very. Lean. Staff was very friendly fly. Location great.
Klaudia at reception was very professional, helpful and just very nice!
Warm & welcoming. Great location. & easy and n street parking.
Only having hot water from a coffee machine. Impossible to get a decent brew when coffee from the previous person drips in!
location
nothing
Location
Water pressure , no bar , no access to the spa
Central location and nice staff, very helpful and courteous.
Absolutely sweltering room with no air conditioning, I fear for anyone staying in height of summer. Breakfast was average, continental mediocre and my scrambled eggs were over done.
Hotel staff Location
Room Too hot at night could open window But kitchen flume was right next to window so was a bit noisey Breakfast have to say not good French toast was thickeness of an envelope And came raw Next day continental breakfast Was packets of cereal boxes Even porrage came in tub were peel back and add water
Hotel is well situated to all amenities in St Andrews. A short bus ride from Leuchars train station and a short walk from St Andrews bus station to the hotel. Checked in on line prior to our arrival. Arrived early, receptionist was very helpful, room not ready but it would be by approximately 3pm. we were able to drop off our luggage at reception before walking around St Andrews. Our luggage had been taken to our room.
Unfortunately we only stayed there approximately 1 & 1/2 hours. On our return to check-in we were taken to the annex across the busy main road, accessed by use of your key card. Our room was "Scotscraig" on the top floor. First impressions of the room, it looked nice but very height restrictive, as the room was in the loft space. At closer inspection the room, in my opinion was not up to the expectations of a 5* hotel. The towels in the bathroom were not soft and one of the hand towels had a hole in it. There were marks on 2 of the 4 pillow cases and found hairs in the bed! The Mattress had seen better days, you could see where it was sunk from previous usage. There were hairs on the window sill next to the mirror in the window. There were marks on the walls possibly from hot drinks? One of the wardrobe doors would not close properly leaving the internal light on constantly (there was a switch to turn it on /off inside the wardrobe). The room in my opinion had not been cleaned or inspected properly before we arrived. The Bathroom door had to be pushed/pulled hard to close/open. The bathroom door did not open fully into the bathroom and banged on the wash basin due to the restricted space. I returned to reception (the receptionist wasn't the same person who we had seen earlier) and requested to be moved to a clean room as I explained why the room was not acceptable. The receptionist did apologise and I was informed there were no other rooms available and would give a full refund. Before I accepted the refund I had to find replacement accommodation, which I did. I felt there was very little customer service received on this occasion. I would have thought there should have been more done to keep my business by trying to correct things as best as they could, rather than doing nothing except refunding payment? This, in my opinion, is not 5* customer service.
Location was perfect, breakfast was good
The room was most definitely way over priced, dated, tired and needing attention, window latch was broken so window open all night and could hear the traffic, mould on the bathroom tiles and cobwebs which is easily rectified, not what you would expect for a supposed 5* establishment!
Excellent location Lovely touches for anniversary Breakfast
No access to spa area unless booking a treatment. For the amount of money paid for the hotel I was disappointed that the facilities couldn't be enjoyed
This was a well located property and a spacious suite. Comfortable super long sized bed
The tv remote didn’t work in the bedroom. The coffee machine sometimes worked, mostly didn’t. The bathroom door wouldn’t close and needed urgent attention - once forced shut, it was a real risk then that of not being able to get back out. The bathroom radiator was very dusty and dirty. Breakfast was poor. Only one overrun member of staff trying to manage reception and the restaurant by herself and from what I could see, just one member of staff in the kitchen. Twenty minutes before the end of the breakfast service, there was almost nothing left of the continental option. The coffee was a machine option with paper cups. This was absolutely not a luxury breakfast experience & really terribly disappointing. We fed this all back to reception for the management and a week later, we’ve heard nothing.
great location and lovely helpful staff
Didn’t like the cooked breakfast Asked for well done sausages and they were barely done and awful Breakfast super oily Not a biggie but a heads up in case you don’t like a super oily cooked breakfast
Accommodation
Lack of car parking
Location , boutique hotel
Some signs of wear and tear, roman blind broken and scratches on walls.
Nice spacious room, loved the bathtub. Very comfortable bed! Corner room, lots of natural light.
The curtain in the bathroom didn't work, so it was really dark in there. Very minor and not really an issue, but since the glass was frosted - it would have been nice to have some natural light in there since the frosted glass would have provided privacy. We didn't report this issue because it was very minor. There was also some noise from it being an older building. We were also right above the restaurant so could hear their music, and we were under another room so could hear them moving around. Again - didn't report any of this as there was nothing that could be done. Restaurant noise was quiet at an early time, and we turned white noise on to try to drown out noise from walking above.
The location is phenomenal, and my room, Old Course, was truly lovely. Spacious, comfortable and a well designed bathroom.
Overnight street noise.
Perfect location. Staff were great. We stayed in the junior suite and the room was so lovely and a great size. Was my boyfriends birthday so the little touch of leaving a card in the room for him was nice too.
Nothing really. The fan was very loud and the shower plug was blocked with hair - but very minor things.
Good
No car park even though there was a car park beside the hotel it took ages to get a space
All good
The hotel doesn't have a car park and although there's a free car park very close it was difficult and frustrating trying to get a space
We arrived as guests and left as friends. Stephanie on Reception was incredibly helpful. Chef provided super breakfasts with an excellent range of choices. Monica gave us a top class afternoon in the Spa.
Good central location and relaxing spa.
Our room was dirty upon inspection, a lot of dust and dirt apparent on most surfaces and unclean bathroom. We did complain to staff, but nothing was done other than they said they’d mention it to housekeeping upon our departure. An expensive room given it wasn’t the cleanest and could do with a bit of a refresh. The room was extremely noisy too despite making sure all of the windows were closed, but woken up a lot overnight with road and pedestrian noise outside so not very well rested.
