Nice place, friendly staff and gorgeous view

Super

Good location and great breakfast. Wish there was air conditioning.

I'd gladly stay here again despite no air conditioning

amazing spot ! breathtaking views

The view, the cleanliness and the friendly attitude of Antonio, the owner

Ontbijt was zeker ok voor deze prijs: yoghurt, ontbijtgranen, fruit, brood, cake, croissants, kaas, vlees, melk, fruitsap, gekookte eieren.

Due to our flight being delayed we arrived at the hotel later than planned. This was however not a problem as the owner had sent us a message previously telling us how to use the key safe to collect our keys. Our first floor room was very comfortable and the view from the balcony was wonderful. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room which was a shame but the mini fridge was very handy. The whole hotel was spotless and our room was made up each day. Breakfast was continental and there was plenty of it, you just helped yourself to what you wanted. Antonio, the owner, would serve fresh tea/coffee at your table and happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the area or getting about. The hotel is situated in a very convenient location. Just a 5 minute walk and you reach the various cafes and restaurants and another 5 minutes you can get to the shops or the lovely beach. We used the bus service but if needed there is a taxi rank just outside the hotel. All in all we enjoyed a lovely week in beautiful Madeira.

Staff are friendly and helpful close to all the amenities in the town would recommend it to anyone that wants a friendly atmosphere

Just there for a quick stop over for early flight in the morning. Very close to airport so a perfect spot.

Vista Sobre a baía, tudo muito bom..

Enkelt litet trevligt hotell. Bra läge till strand och restauranger. Gott kaffe och enkel frukostbuffé ingick.

This modest hotel in Machico near the airport was very convenient for an early flight the next morning.

Affordable and pleasant. The room itself was really small and we had to maneuver around the bed but overall we enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect, right next to dinning options and the beach. The owner was very sweet and kind. Would stay here again.

Grande chambre, vue Atlantique, gérant hyper disponible.

Trato estupendo y buenas vistas

Dommage.

Really welcoming!

Balcony view of the ocean.

Lovely clean rooms, kept clean on a daily basis. Nice welcome and quick to check in. Breakfast was plentiful with the usual continental menu. We enjoyed our stay here.

When we arrived, we were told the room had been double-booked, and instead of the room we originally reserved, we were squashed into a much smaller one — three of us in a very tight space. No discount, and we still had to pay the full amount including tax. Even though I accepted it at the time, now that I’ve slept on it, I feel the lack of any discount was unfair and not good business. The room itself was very cramped — barely enough space to move or store our bags. The beds were uncomfortable and only one had a pillow. Parking is advertised, but there are only about 4 spaces, and we never managed to get one. Traveling with a child, this made things even more inconvenient, and we feel the listing should be clearer about this. The thin curtains didn’t block any light, and noise from the café below (which they also own) made it hard to sleep. The positives: the room was clean, the staff were friendly, and breakfast, while small, was nice — which suited us fine as we don’t eat much in the mornings. Overall, we left feeling disappointed and that the situation could have been handled with more honesty and care.

We stayed here as we had an early flight in the morning and it was perfect. 5 mins in a taxi to the airport, clean room and comfy bed. There were a few people knocking doors during the night, coming and going I assume but overall a wonderful stay, thank you.

Location was good. Close to airport but the room was very small . Breakfast was good.

Great location, very good breakfast, good service to get a hand made coffee from the brewing machine!

This is a difficult rating. Very clean place, friendly. Great location, close to Airport, close to down town Machico. Machico even has a sand beach. Had a nice breakfast room with a filling cold breakfast. Room was a a little small. The biggest problem was the shower drain was very slow, and shower head push out a large amount of water, ended up flooding the bathroom a couple times. Ran out of hot water one day, may have been due to three toung women that just arrived. Only happened once. The second problem was internet did not work well in the room, was excellent in the breakfast room though, said they were fixing it. Glad we stayed as plan arrived late and was able to get a Bolt to the place. Rented a car later and round free parking near there. It may depend on individual circumstances on wanting to stay there.

Very nice and clean. And very friendly staff!

Our stay was very pleasant. the hotel had nice views of the harbor and town. This was an anniversary trip and the location was close to the airport, but not too close and also close to many of the best hiking trails in the area.

Cute hotel with basic breakfast but a very friendly staff which makes a difference! Rooms require renovation but the view is very nice!

Was good

We ordered a room with a sea view but was downgraded to a room with no sea view. There was no staff in the reception, so there was nothing to do about it.

Our reservation was not honoured upon arrival due to over booking/prioritize groups. We were not notified in advance. Residential familiar arranged alternative hotel that was satisfactory but should not be taking Expedia reservations they can not honour.

Everything described in listing was accurate

Nice location, beautiful view, clean rooms and good breakfast

It was very well located. The room was smallish but very clean, then serviced every day.

Super Preis-Leistung!

Everything was perfect !!! A cozy, lovely small family hotel. The location is superb! The beach, restaurants, shops - everything is nearby. The airport is close, 7M car rental  in the same building! Very convenient to get onto the highway. The hotel parking is small, but we found a large free parking lot a few minutes' walk away. The hotel is exceptionally clean everywhere. Cosy room, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom. Everything is well thought out, has everything you need. The view from the balcony is amazing ! In the evening, you can sit with wine and watch the sky painted with sunset colors, and in the morning enjoy the rising sun. Complimentary standard breakfast in the restaurant, excellent coffee. Very warm, always smiling host. We often went hiking before dawn and couldn't have breakfast in the restaurant, so the host  prepare breakfast for us to take away. Thank you very much for the wonderful stay!!!! Highly recommend, especially for those who like non-touristy hotels and want to feel the local spirit."

👍

Great place!

We only stayed 1 night but the rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurant was very good. It is a short walk to the beach, bars and restaurants.

Easy access to surrounding areas of interest

Facilité a parquer calme personnel sympas

Great place. Easy from/to the airport. Host was so welcoming. Room was huge. Comfy. Great bed and shower. Oh and a room with THIS VIEW!!! Amazing service. Breakfast was simple buffet. Nicest people ever! So worth the stay. Definitely recommend.

Very nice and familar Hotel with nice personal and solid breakfast. We had a warm feeling staying there.

Good service, friendly staff and the room was very clean.

Seu Antônio is very friendly and caring. He made everything possible to accommodate any requests I had. The family works really hard in the restaurant and hotel. Breakfast was simple but very good and fresh. The area is very central in Machico, 5 minutes walk from the beach. Many restaurants and grocery stores around, within 10 min walking. There’s also a great co working space at the Machico Forum (3 minutes from the hotel) in case you’re in Madeira working remote. Wifi was great! Works excellent. The room was very clean. The single room is more outdated, but the double room was great and had a nice balcony facing the ocean. I could fall asleep listening to the waves. Would definitely stay there again, affordable and overall great accommodation.

Stayed there for Tori nights

Good if you are taking flight. Close from airport. Cheap and clean good option if you are tight on budget. We got room at 3rd floor walk up. Not something I prefer with luggage. Parking was bad. No parking available.

We booked a room with a balcony and view to the sea but got a room with no balcony, only a little window and no see view. Would Not have taken this hotel if we new in advance what kind of room we would get. The staff was nice.

The hotel is beautifully clean. It seems to be cleaned from top to bottom every day. The breakfasts are nice, lovely eggs, cooked different ways each day, scrambled, boiled and fried in rotation. Lovely fresh bread and fabulous coffee. Our rooms' good sized balcony had an incredible view of the beaches. Only one downside, was the price of 2 glasses of red wine we ordered when we arrived was 7.90€. We live in mainland Portugal and wine in restaurants there is around 1€ a glass, so it was a bit of a shock. The price of wine in the supermarkets were same as Portugal mainland so just couldn't understand why it was so expensive. The restaurant at the hotel served delicious food at reasonable prices. We had the Black Scabbard fish which was amazing. We had clean sheets and towels virtually everday, personally I'd have preferred the linen changed less frequently to be kinder to the environment. Overall, a well run, lovely hotel and restaurant.

All good. Baby cot is possible.

A lovely place to stay, good value with good food in a great place to base yourself

Vielen Dank! Grüße aus Hamburg!

Great place with great value

While visiting Madeira. Ate at this restaurant twice. Had the same meals 2 days in a row. Prawns to start and calamari as a main. The best prawns ive eaten in a long time. Calamari too was very well cooked and served with lovely vegetables, and sauce to die for. Could eat this good honest food every day.

went here for lunch with my husband while on a day trip from Funchal. I had pork medalions in mushroom sauce and he had chicken stroganoff both with potatoes and a selection of veg which for me were cooked to perfection not mushy and not crunchy. Delicious food large portions good value food and drinks. We felt a bit bad because we had to go and look for waiter as we had to hurry for the bus.I would have liked to have taken things slower and I hope he was not too put out. Would recommend this place to everyone who visits Machico.

This restaurant is right across the road from the Dom Pedro hotel, is reasonably priced and does good food. We ate there a couple of times during our holiday while staying at the hotel. It is very convenient if you are staying in the Dom Pedro hotel.

Very very, clean and tidy hotel. Only stayed for 2 night but more than pleased. Breakfast was very first class, more than we could eat. Evening meal was satisfactory, but the restaurant was full, and possibly they were running flat out, so service was a little slow, the main was a little well done, but we had more than enough. Then the bottle of wine made up for that. We finished the evening with and excellent coffee. All in all a very pleasant, enjoyable weekend. Would book to return with pleasure, very friendly owner and staff.

This is a friendly restaurant. I had a delicious fish meal with unusual passion fruit and banana dressing, sounds weird , tastes great. Reasonable prices, generous portions. The location is central and the owner didn't bat an eyelid when we came back dripping in a downpour for a coffee. Another sea front cafe had turned their noses up at us.

Excellent location with beautiful views on the bay and the ocean. Located just behind the Dom Pedro but I think my room (number 2) was bigger and better: big bathroom with tiles, balcony with terrace, and wooden floor. It's pretty basic so you'll have to take your travel kettle and hairdryer and there is no aircon or fridge but I did not miss any of them. The wifi worked very well in my room, balcony and at the restaurant (which serves delicious food). The sound of the ocean and the views are great. The owner and his family and lovely. I stayed three nights there and I really liked it.

Having been stranded at the airport when our easy jet flight was cancelled a very helpful gent at the airport who was stranded like us managed to book us into this hotel at 11.30 pm ! The owner came to open up when we arrived, and we had a nice double room with fresh breakfast for 47 euros. Our thanks to the gent that helped to make the booking, we should have taken his name, but if he reads this, thanks for all your help. Also thanks to this hotel for putting us all up at the last minute when frankly easy jet just left us all to sort ourselves out overnight. Lots of people had to sleep at the airport ! Machitto looks a nice little place and we may return in the future, hopefully under better circumstances Eddie n Christine

1. Very clean room & bathroom. Fresh towels and linen every day. Room was cleaned every day 2. We didnt get sea view but for the price, this was excelent offer 3. Breakfast is great! Any kind of bread, jam, cheese, ham, hot drinks, yogurt, honney... 4. The boss is very kind and friendly 5. Restaurant next door is very cheap, probably the cheapest in town and portions are huge. We ate picado and got a portion for 2 (we ordered just for one person) and payed 8 eur. Meat was really tasty. You dont get so good meat every time you eat picado. If you have a car, go on Sao Vincente path and in Whales museum in Carnical. We would defenitely come again.

Just spent 3 days at this small but comfortable hotel. We were in room 10 which was a good size, had a balcony and lovely view out of the bay. Very friendly and helpful owner and staff and lovely food - fish (espada) and steak were especially good. Breakfasts were excellent with ham, cheese, bread, yoghurt, eggs if requested, orange juice and coffee. Spotlessly clean. within an easy walk of the beach and town centre.

We stayed for one week at Residencial Familia, booked through Booking.com. We were given room no 8, absolutely lovely views over the bay from the balcony. This was obviously the best room in the place. The owner (Antonio) is very keen to provide good value accommodation which this certainly is. We do not know about the other rooms. Machico is idealy suited to expeditions on the eastern side of Madeira with very good road links to Funchal and Santana. Fabulous walking all within a few minutes driving. Residencial Familia is literally outside the Dom Pedro (only big hotel in Machico) on the south side of the town. It has an excellent attached restaurant serving local dishes. My wife ate esparda (fish) twice and I had their steak twice, very good and excellent value, 15% discount for residents. Downsides: No kettle or cups, very compact bathroom + bath (a larger person may find it claustrophopic). No hairdrier in the room (but we did not ask for one). Bed linen not changed in the whole week. Regrettably the bed mattress has seen better days - a long time ago, it brought a new meaning to spring. A rather unwelcoming girl on reception at our arrival. Upside: Very clean and the room was serviced every day. Good breakfasts with yogurt, fruit, fresh bread, ham and cheese and various cooked egg. 3 minute walk into the centre of Machico. Easy free parking close to hotel. Tip: Try the food at O Gala on the town square, just as good as Residecial Familia and slightly cheaper. Tomato and onion soup and sardines are truly out of this world.

We have just come back from spending a wonderful week in Machico made all the better by staying at Residencial Familia. A comfortable, clean and friendly place to stay. The breakfasts are an easy way to spend an hour, eating fresh bread and rolls, ham, cheese, fruit, yogurts and copious amounts of steaming hot coffee and tea. The Madeira cake served with honey was something to enjoy! The staff could not do enough to help, the rooms were exceptionally clean and seeing the way the housekeeper worked and the hours she put in polishing and dusting is certainly a credit to the hotel. A fantastic week and one we will be repeating at our earliest opportunity!

We've just come back from two weeks here. It's located 10 minutes by car from the airport (but there's no noise from planes), five minutes from the sandy beach in Machico, three minutes from the Anthia diving centre, and two minutes from the via rapida, which leads you to the rest of Madeira. Clean rooms, good food in the adjoining restaurant, friendly and helpful staff.

We stayed in residencia familial on our first night in Madeira. It was an easy 8 euro taxi from the airport and a good base for the walk to Baia D abra, as the bus station is only a few minutes walk into town. Comfortable and welcoming, the room had everything we needed, and a good view of the bay. The bar and restaurant were cheap and cheerful. Management are friendly and attentive. Watch out for predatory taxi drivers outside (probably best to say you have a car if you don't want a taxi!)

Spotless large room at the top of the first staircase with large ensuite . Nicely furnished. Reception rarely staffed but owner Manager can always be found in the adjoining bar restaurant which belongs to the hotel , but is often frequented by locals . Good atmosphere. Breakfast was substantial and in addition to ham cheese , bread rolls etc , fried eggs were also available freshly cooked.Freshly brewed coffee from the bar . Situated two minutes walk from the promenade , next to Dom Pedro Baia hotel which unfortunately overshadows it . Very good value , would stay there again . recommended.

The room and bathroom where very clean and we also had fantastic sea views.I feel very comfortable without spending too much money and the position in machico is excellent. The continental breakfast is good, too. 100% recommended !
