Comfortable bed and clean
My room was the third floor up. It was so hot I couldn’t stay in it. I did tell the staff and they moved me to the second floor but still so hot 🥵 you could not brief. I had to open the fire door to try and let some hair in it did have a fan, but it was just blowing hot heat
Helpful staff. Nice room. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Good shower.
Maybe a few toiletries.
The Owl was a decent place to stay. The bar was nice and the staff looked after us well.
The mattress has seen better days and a heavy smoker next door kept us awake throughout the night, choking and regularly nipping outside for a smoke. But I can’t hold that against the establishment, just bad luck.
Great room, very comfortable bed.
Smell from the drains and wall were not sound proofed.
Simon and the staff went out of the way to make my daughter's wedding morning special they went above and beyond thank you so much will definitely recommend you to all my family and friends xx
On my daughter's wedding morning Simon went out of his to make sure she had her breakfast sending a plater of food for her and the bridesmaids while there hair and makeup were being done xxx
Food and Atmosphere in bar area
Mould in shower room very noisy doors by other occupants
The locatation and staff were friendly. Food was also brilliant.
Tv hanging off wall informed staff and they offered to change us rooms but we were all ready unpacked. Was hairs in bath when arrived and also stains on nets at windows.
Breakfast was great and evening meal in pub was lovely
When we tried to get a table for dinner were told there was approx 1hr wait but when we got a drink from bar there were definitely non reserved tables and eventually they did offer us one of those. We assumed we should have booked in advance. The room was ok, but a bit dated.
Large choice for breakfast (extra cost). On main road in small town. The location suited us. The evening steaks (special deals available) were good
Was in a quiet village
Room covered in dust. Card said it was cleaned. Small shower, wonky toilet seat, room covered in dust. Others in the hotel loud and screaming/shouting early hours of morning
Breakfast was good. The room was too hot for me. Air con would have helped.
Hi I'm in the process of challenging this payment I have a confirmation email from booking.com to tell me it was cancelled I've just checked my credit card statement and it has not been refunded I'm going to take this matter now directly to the credit card company to get my money refunded instantly
Nothing
Carpets rot in room bathroom very tired toilet brown needed bleaching
Location and staff friendly
Food was very overpriced for what it was and wasn’t very warm we stayed for dinner and breakfast, food was only lukewarm and was given cold Nan bread. Bathroom was dirty and wasn’t maintained toilet seat was broken and was a noose from the pipes all night, the bedroom door wouldn’t shut properly.
Bed was ok
Rooms were dirty, decor very dated and wallpaper peeling. Rooms weren’t refreshed. There was noise like a washing machine running above the ceiling in room 10. Kept my sister awake all night.
Ci siamo trovati benissimo anche solo per una notte, buono anche le pietanze al ristorente
Clean, evening meal was amazing
Breakfast not so amazing
Staff were very friendly and helpful, bed was incredibly comfortable - surprised but pleased to find ourselves with a superking! TV worked and bedroom furniture was nice.
Bathroom was dated and smelt of damp, obviously we didn't spend long in here anyway. Ceiling in bedroom had damp stains from previous leaks (we were on the ground floor) but no active leaks.
Clean, large rooms
Staff freindly and helpful, especially Simon(think he was the manager) Room tidy and clean, bathroom may need a slight modernisation but was tidy. shower good power and temperature Breakfast good and adequate Plenty of free parking
Maybe a small fridge in the room. stayed during heatwave. no air movement. would have been nice to be able to have a cold drink in you room
숙소가 아늑했고 식사할 수 있는 장소도 제공받았습니다.
엘리베이터가 없어서 노인들이 짐을 옮길 때 조금 힘들었습니다.
Friendly, traditional pub with a convenient location and ample parking. Helpful staff and a lovely bar/restaurant.
Spacious family room
Mould on bath
Lovely rooms and very comfortable beds. Lots of amenities such as a hair dryer, iron and a big TV with lots of channels. We had a family room which was a really good size and didnt feel cramped at all. We ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely. The staff were really polite.
Our room very clean, a good size, suited our needs. The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful. The service at breakfast and evening meal was good and food was very tasty. Good parking facilities and good value for money.
Friendly staff
The tv didn’t work and we seemed to do all the running around to find out what was happening.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, eg finding safe storage for bicycle. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The location was good for us.
Minor irritations, eg broken toilet seat in one room and a hole through a fire door in another - The Owl was informed
Clean and friendly
Nothing
Staff were brilliant
Over priced drinks and lack of items at the bar and off the menu.
Wifi didn't work Food was only OK, felt 're-heated' Room lacked a true desk Bathroom 'tired', shower mildewed
The bed was large and comfortable. The drinks in the restaurant were lovely and cold in this heatwave.
The attitude of some of the staff was poor. The glasses were not clean. The bathroom was grubby and needed a refurbishment.
Location and staff
Room stunk of smoke on arrival, bed sheet was not clean
We were told through bookings .com we would have a down stairs room.Even though we had a name who oked the booking. They said no one of that name works there and we got the impression they were to busy to be bothered
The room was OK good bathroom and bed, the bedside lights were a bit difficult to use and had a very small black switch which was not easy to see which involved a walk back from the Bedroom block.
Location was convenient and whilst close to the road was not troubled by the traffic. Good poarking.
Breakfsst ok cooked fresh. No fresh fruit first mornng .
Beds not made and room not serviced after first night. Bathroom tatty. Hot water out of cold tap. Side of shower rotten. Toilet seat wonky.
Dinner in the Restaurant was very good and so was breakfast. No complaints.
Nothing.
Staff were friendly
room 4 had a not so nice smell, mould all in the bathroom and water stains from leaks up the walls and ceiling !
Room smelt of drains.Extractor fan didn't work. After complaint given a room spray.Told by staff smell caused by tree roots damaging drain pipes!
Good staff
Room was very small
The bed was comfortable and food was very good, staff was polite and helpful
Our room smelt damp, it had a mouldy smell, the bathroom smelt like a sewer, we had to buy air freshener to disguise it, and the fan provided was dusty, so it started of my allergies, causing me to get short of breath in the night, the shower head was very dirty, as was the plug hole
Hotel was right on the road, so convenient for a short atoppver. The staff were very efficient and friendly, breakfast was good.
Room was very compact, TV reception was terrible. Room was quite hot, although a fan was provided which helped a bit.
The restaurant and food was nice, nice pint as well
Really nice hotel and nice staff
The room was so hot we did have a fan but this didn’t help.
Not much
Room quality was poor
Nice location. Clean room. Comfortable bed . Lovely restaurant and bar
Nothing
The manager of the Owl..or the guy who signed us in was working really hard and wanted to help. We were going to eat there but we decided not to on the end...went to look for somewhere we could see the football as they couldn't get the TV working. All staff we nice. Room was comfortable, bed comfy, shower small but for the mo eye we paid it was worth it!
The room was stuffy but had a fantastic so that helped. The bathroom didn't have a window that opened.
Old property with a face lift, room size just about adequate. Bar area is fine and staff friendly.
Out dated and old fashioned.

Comfortable bed
Tired decor, stale
Beds and sheets were clean
Room was tired and in need of refurbishment. Hotel systems were terrible in connecting room, food together for one cohesive bill.
Comfortable bed and plenty of parking.
I thought breakfast was included but I had to pay separately and was quite expensive for what it was.
Comfortable, large room. Excellent breakfast. Lovely people.
Very dated bathroom and not very clean.
Hotel excellent, food great, We stayed in the annex and the room was warm/stuffy even with a window open. Overall I would use this hotel again.
warm stuffy room
The staff were so helpful as we had to stop there after our car broke down. They made sure that our children could get sorted out in our room and had warm food asap.
Everything was good.
Great location, not far from the A1. Very good value. Clean comfortable room with nice shower and tea and coffee making facilities. Friendly staff in the pub. Good choice of food and drink. Excellent breakfast.
Nothing negative to say.
It was affordable and clean. The location was convenient for getting to Selby and York.
The room was a bit smaller than expected, but not a big deal. When we arrived, the tv cable was cut and so the room didn’t have what was advertised. The shower was also small which could bring problems for larger people and the toilet seat was also loose.
Friendly staff and quick check in and departure. Breakfast was tasty. Room plain but had everything that was needed. Very clean and comfortable. Fantastic price for a room.
The stairs…2 flights to get to my room ( 40 steps).
It was in a good location for us and the bed was very good
The rooms were very tired and nowhere to hang towels to dry
The rooms are spotless. Very clean.
As I regularly stay there, for a few nights, the televisions never work.
Friendly staff
Very poor food, bathroom dated and in poor condition.
The room was comfortable (with an enormous bed!) The shower was really good. Dinner was OK
The accommodation was seperate from the main building. Not so good if it's raining! The bed didn't need to be quite so big (it took up most of the room!)
Het ontbijt was erg uitgebreid, ze hadden een ruime keuze. Personeel was erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam.
Room 22 was perfect, we loved the fact it had a separate small bedroom, worked perfect that the kids could go to sleep before us. The beds are soooo comfortable we slept so well for the 3 nights we stayed.
We had breakfast the first morning and unfortunately we didnt find it the best, i had the omelette and found it very greasy which meant it didnt settle very well. The variety and choice of breakfast items was good so i cant comment on any other items.
location
cost
Having stayed many times at the Owl, we are please to say it is maintaining it's high standards and value for money.
I was very disappointed to find the room keys have been changed to the keyless swipe card system. It took 4 different cards before we could get in. I have had this problem at other hotels over the last couple of years and dislike them immensely.
Excellent
Nothing
Room was basic, but clean. The staff were very friendly, with good service in the bar & restaurant.
Not the fault of the accommodation, but we had very noisy & inconsiderate neighbours.
Chambre confortable et bien équipée. Parking suffisant. Emplacement proche d'un parking relais bus pour aaller à York. Prix compétitif
Petit-déjeuner un peu décevant, buffet très limité
Good location to stay. Good parking facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast and evening meal was very good.
Our room and bathroom was spacious. Very large and comfy bed.
Location and great atmosphere
It was as expected
There was a garage to park motorcycles, but you have to ask as it's not something they offer normally.
Banging loud music at breakfast time. When I was there a couple of gents in their late sixties were breakfasting to a soundscape of hip-hop. Really not necessary.
Venue was great. Liked the fact that the rooms were separate from the restaurant and pub. So nice and quiet.
Location was great lovely cosy public house shop next door and another pub across the road
Room needs a little tlc especially the bathroom just small jobs that could be easily rectified , also a cobweb bush and a tidy on the balcony outside the window
Staff welcoming and friendly, cosy clean bar, day Manager was exceptional going out of his way to solve a very minor problem, food hot and very quickly presented, we would definitely stay here again A ++

It was clean and well maintained. Staff very efficient and friendly. Very good value for money.

Location was fine we wanted to visit York and we were only half an hour away Breakfasts were superb , good quality and portions Our room was disappointing, not been cleaned properly before our stay and toilet was dirty
Cleanliness of room
Helpful staff, food was good. Very comfortable bed.
Automatic light in hall flashed on and off during night, light came in through gaps around door Had long wait Saturday morning for breakfast Walls very thin could hear other peoples conversation
