Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Great location next to Selby Abbey. Reasonably priced. Helpful staff. Room was comfortable.
Hotel a little tired, and seems to function mainly as a locals pub. No breakfast available, but Spoons up the road took care of that. At the time if our stay there were noisy pavement works taking place outside.
Great location with free parking in the centre of town. Rooms clean, nice towels.
Rooms are tired. There has been a refurbishment but not of bedrooms. Our fault for not checking how things had changed since our last visit but we were disappointed that there is no food available at all, not even a continental breakfast. There was no WiFi when we were there and it seems this was the case previously looking back at some reviews. We didn't get anything to warn us of this and when we asked if it might be back up next day the staff seemed quite disinterested. One night we ordered a beer and hot chocolate at the bar and on checking his card payment my husband saw it was £13.25. He went back and queried this as it was so expensive but twice was assured it was correct by staff who didn't seem at all bothered. Later another member of staff came past and asked how the hot chocolate was and my husband said nice but expensive! She pointed out the beer was £6 so we said that meant we'd been charged more than £7 for a hot chocolate. She then apologised and gave us money back but it is poor that despite challenging this, it took her asking to confirm this. Overall disappointing compared to our previous visit and we would not return
Location was fab, they weren’t serving breakfast
Bed hard, bathroom damp and the bath takes a lifetime to fill.
Very central to the town.
Unable to access hdmi port on TV.
Location, large room, nice staff, pub downstairs
Weak shower with some mould No food
The bed was very comfortable and the curtains were heavy and kept out the light very well. The shower was hot and there was plenty of hot water.
The extractor fan in the toilet/shower didn't work and there was no window. The lighting in the bathroom and by the bedsides was very dim. Some paintwork would benefit from a touch up. The view from our window was of the roof and a flat area where rubbish had gathered and would have benefitted from a general tidy.
The location
The web site is out of date and advertised food. Hence we had to search for this. My fault that I didn’t read the small print on the booking form. The room was very worn - stains on chairs. The front facade looks good but inside is seedy- a drinking place only. We were not impressed but accepted it was not expensive.
The location was good
The shower cubicle had mould on the ceiling. The silicone sealer was black with mould. The paper was coming off the ceiling. The place was dirty and uncomfortable. View was not the best.
The location of the hotel is perfect, Central and convenient. The staff were super friendly and always said hello. The price of the stay was reasonable.
Unfortunately this hotel is really in need of an update. Everything is shabby an not in a chic way! 1st room TV did not work. Moved to a different room in which the TV worked however the rest of the room had a lot rlqrong with it. Patched up holes in the wall, damp up the wall and in the bathroom. Grotty looking grey bathroom with wobbly seat and toilet, trickle of water for the shower. TV kept moving to angle of its on accord. The list is endless. If it was £30 a night, I wouldn't have complained but the rooms really could do with an update. I was glad to leave.
Location was great. Lovely little town/village
Building works we didn’t know about. Builder using a hammer just before 8am but with no meaning. Whoever it was wasn’t knocking something into place, it’s was that light it wouldn’t have smashed a window so was rather annoying. Stopped about 9am.
Central location Value for money
Did not serve evening food or breakfast
The Pub/hotel was in the middle of Selby, right next to Abby. Parking at the rear covered by the cost of your stay. The room was a good size, and on suit bathroom also a good size. Monday is market day. A fantastic market. And the shops, cafes, restaurants and Abbey just steps away. Walking their is a transpennine walk next to the river. We noticed plenty of bike rides too. Lots of pubs, picture of counter at The New inn. Flat for walking and perfect for mobility scooters.
The pub itself didn't have an restaurant or serve breakfast as its having a renovation, but across the road we found the Selby hub cafe that served breakfast and lunch, plus lots of bakerys with delicious pies pastys, sandwiches and cream cakes. And their are fabulous restaurants serving a variety of dishes. Chinese, Italian, Indian, fish and chips and Cantonese. Takeaway food outlets as well.
Very central so excellent location next to the Abbey. Friendly staff. Room was a good size with window overlooking the beer garden. Tea and coffee facilities available.
Place looked a bit like it needed a bit of TLC. Shower was hot but not very powerful.
The accommodation is in an old freehouse and was able to keep that atmosphere. The staff was friendly and supportive and the bed was nice. The location next to the Selby Abbey in the middle of the centre is great.
The hotel is (very) old and could use an update. At the one hand it is the charm, on the other hand it all looks sllghtly worn down. Unfortunatly they don't serve breakfast (but there are some other places to have breakfast around).
Friendly staff, clean rooms and excellent location.
Only the bedroom window opened a little, bathroom one was painted shut with no aircon or fan it's really hot and stuffy on a night. It's an old building and very lovely but the floors squeak with every move and the room above me must of been trying to get their steps in at 6am till 7.30am. Not the hotels fault someone was thst inconsiderate though.
Bra pris ok för en natt
Svåra trappor
It was well located for the center of Selby, above a pleasant little pub.
No breakfast facilities and the rooms weren't very soundproof.
i thought food was available, but didnt see any. also free wifi advertised but they had no wifi
easy access to town and facilities, like the abbey, bus and train stations
The wifi wasn’t working.
Very well located, spacious room.
There was no internet available due to fault and there was no signal to the TV
Good area and very nice room. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed.
The wifi wasn't working.

I went to the George Inn to meet family members who were attending a wedding at Selby Abbey, we chose to stay at the George Inn as it was obviously very near
We were told that another company had taken it over and were in the middle of refurbishing the outside. We had no Wi-Fi ,apparently it had been cut off as the previous owners had not paid the bill, and the new owners had not reinstated it ! that was extremely annoying. We were also believing that there would be breakfast, but there was no breakfast or any other food for that matter even though they had a menu in the Rooms .We had to walk right down the high street to get any food!! , and some of us were not very mobile due to poor health. My room was reasonable, but the en suite was awful, the sink had so many cracks in it I was surprised it held any water. I only had 1 shower, as it had mould in the corners and on the ceiling . I really thought the floor was going to collapse that was in front of the shower as it was soggy , I did inform the manager of these issues . We as the Wedding guests that stayed at the George were all very upset about the many problems, what should have been lovely stay certainly was not . I would like to be reimbursed for the service that I was expecting
Not very much
The room was damp and not clean! The ceiling was damp and peeling off The shower was filthy with a very large damp patch on the ceiling
Hotel was in need of refurbishment. Shower had no pressure. There was mould on ceilings and walls. carpets were threadbare. Paintwork flaking. No wi fi.

All was good
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was nice and clean.
No meals being served. No teabags in the room, had to ask for them, also could have done with a bigger mug in the room.
Very little
Two flights of narrow stairs, windows painted shut so unable to open them in the heat wave. Bar very expensive, twice the price of the pub next door. TV blaring in the bar.
Unfortunately food was not available due to refurbishment
Central location. Acsesable car park.
No wifi. No staff on site during the evening. No pre warning about building work. Sleep disturbed due to loud construction. Not updated about No food within the premises. Only half a roll toilet paper. Light in bedroom kept flashing unable to leave on. Faulty. Dusty bedside tables. 1 pillow and no one to request any from.
Convenient location in town
Scaffolding up outside room and men working on the scaffolding outside both room windows
Emplacement en centre ville
Prime location , free parking clean throughout
Nothing
No food available. Building works on front of building Scaffolding and plastic sheeting over window, with workmen of the platform who could see directly into room. Work started at 7.00 am Bathroom shower head could not be held in position and cold water could not be turned on. Cleaning of room inadequate.
People very friendly. Great place to stay for location. I have took out two puppies and they were very welcome.
Nothing
The double bed was comfortable
Poor condition of the property, the fact that they NO Longer do breakfast or any other food was absolutely disgusting for the amount of money that the hotel cost.We booked this hotel for the convenience of Selby Abbey where our daughter was getting married on the 7th August.Alot of the wedding guests were also extremely disappointed with the inconvenience of No food, and the condition of the rooms ect and when you book a hotel you expect some staff to be around at all times. There was no Internet,no phones working, nothing put up on view that they no longer serving food(although in the book in room was still a copy of the food they served.!!!We paid a lot of money through your booking site and didn't get what we expected!!This is not good for your reputation as your selling their hotel to people and we didn't get what we expected. We would expect that hopefully you realize how dissatisfied we were, and compensate us for this amount as we then had to look elsewhere for breakfast and lunch and dinner meals!!!not happy at all.
Location is great in the town centre next to the abbey
No Wi-Fi available
Fantastic location
The building was undergoing renovations and was surrounded with scaffolding, having workmen walking past your window before you are out of bed isn’t great. The room was quite dusty probably due to the building renovations. The WiFi didn’t work and when reported, the member of staff was aware of it but didn’t seem to care. Just to make the evening a little more boring the reception on the television was so poor it made it impossible to watch.
The location was great. The staff were lovely
The room needs updating badly. The bathroom was small, as was the shower cubicle with poor water pressure and temperature control. The bed itself had seen better days. As I said, needs updating badly, hence the price
Brilliant staff who couldn’t do more! The facilities are great and ideal for what was needed
Nothing
Awful customer service and place would not reccomend
Theyre awful people
Location
No breakfast Scaffolding all round the building No seating outside as was the usual.
Location

Very clean and accessable
Thought menu was a bit expensive
Central location
Used to have a breakfast…. Not any more
Central location and free car parking
Communal parts need repainting very tired. Light by bedside no switch
Location
No breakfast
We couldn’t even find it but believe it was a building hidden by scaffolding and plastic
I rang twice to find out the location and twice they put the phone down on me
Its location
Bathroom had black mould in the corner of bath, shower head is not properly secured, water flow was slow. The room was too hot with no fan available in the room, with the scaffold sheeting at the front of the window obstructing any air movement.
The water wasn’t working when we got there no shower or sink working water
great place to stay good food good staff
Location great Staff very friendly Comfy bed Good beer!
Location and family room.
Needs a little refreshing.
The staff were very helpful
Having scaffolding erected outside our window, and the room was very hot, but a fan was supplied, unable to open the curtains due to lack of privacy
Allowed my dog !
Nothing, it was all super
Location
Overall scruffy state of building. Also disturbed by scaffolding being erected outside our window from 8am.
Excellent location and friendly staff. Great beer garden!
The rooms are a bit dated and in need of some decor however very clean and comfortable and very good value for money.
Staff were amazing and the bed was comfortable. Those are the two things I always hope for. The food was great and the bar had a great atmosphere
The only downside was I happened to stay during the recent heat wave when the rooms were warm. However the room was supplied with a big fan which really helped and for the price I can't ask for anything more. It was not much warmer than what it would have been in my own house. I would certainly stay again!
Rooms are very hot.
No towels In room
Staff were lovely
Pictures are nothing like reality Property and rooms are tired to say the least
Great location for our activity

Good location next to the abbey. Comfortable bar downstairs. Nice white cotton duvet cover and pillowcases.
Scruffy decorations with peeling ceilings. The milk cartons were off.
Clean and comfortable. Great Location.
Nice comfortable bed
Bathroom door hanging on by one hinge, unable to close it
Location
Didn’t do food on a Tuesday after traveling for 5 hours bathroom door was held up with a wedge when I removed the wedge to use the bathroom door the actual door fell off, wallpaper hanging off the ceiling and it wasn’t all the same pattern ( triggers my ocd )
De ligging van het hotel is super. Het personeel vriendelijk. Het interieur van de kamer was wat oud, maar wel schoon.
Niets
Nice location in the town centre
Facilities were good. Central location was perfect.
Shower was a bit temperamental to get to the right temperature.
Staff were fantastic and really helpful at every turn, the location on the market square right next to the Abbey couldn't be better!
The decor overall is dated and needs a refresh, the bathroom and carpet felt old in a way that makes you feel like it cant quite be clean, although I wouldn’t suggest that the place was unclean. There was no additional lock on the bedroom door, just the catch that your room key unlocks, so that could have been more secure.
Location, good bar area and beer garden, this is the 3rd time Ive stayed here and will be back.
No breakfast this time as it's been taken over by new owners, but wetherspoons is a 5 min walk away, could do with a refresh in the rooms, but they clean and bed comfy
Location next to Selby Abbey The Inn itself is a very old building and has kept lots of features. Room nice and spacious. Clean bedding and towels. Staff nice and friendly.
Would have liked a king size bed, the room big enough to accommodate a king size bed. Although clean bathroom and bedroom needs a little TLC
Location
I did not sleep due to loud noise all night from air conditioning or a fan noise all night. The shower was not appealing for washing in. The room looked tired and run down and was expensive for the room, sorry.
Staff were accomodating, place very accessible to move around town and work, clean room and great food! Fabulous❤
Ño complains. Happy to come back again.
Next to Selby Abbey.
Run down unclean bathroom..No contact with staff and room not serviced. The place is really tired and needs a lot of money to improve it. For over £100 a night it was rubbish. Website said brunch from 09.00 until 12.00 but staff said kitchen didn't open until 12.00. Found a great liitle cafe for breakfast. Wi-fi was rubbish and TV kept glitching. Water from the shower head just trickled, no pressure there at all. On a positive, good location.
Central location, parking.
No breakfast on site, but cafes within walking distance.
De plek, het gevoel in een inn te zijn
De douche was heel moeilijk instelbaar, te heet of te koud scheelde maar een mm
Good location Pub food was tasty and good value for money Nice bed linen and towels
Bathroom cleanliness was not very good , mould in the shower , unclean around the taps
It is central for the town
Really shabby and neglected. An old building requires careful conservation and refurbishment, this place could be lovely if the owner would spend some money on it Pretty depressing and certainly not worth what we paid. Internet access is appalling, TV kept cutting out, shower either scalding or freezing
The location was good
The decor was dated, the bedding was uncomfortable
The Location is perfect and the staff are friendly and helpful
The room faced the beer garden and the bright security light made it difficult to sleep, even with the blackout curtains drawn. Room was also very warm on arrival but there was a fan provided which helped.
Good location. Free parking next to inn
Tired place. Needs refurb
Everything it was great
Nothing
Location. Free onsite parking. Comfortable and reasonably quiet room with good view of market square, close to the scenic abbey church, other pubs and eating options. Reasonable time check out with key drop box. Secure stairways felt safe particularly as access through bar areas. Good late night access to the room via pub.Plenty if tea & coffee
No access to car park during market day during set times ( due to traders set up on blocked roads. I know this is unavoidable for the hotel but it is a regular occurrence so guests should be informed of the time restrictions and alternative parking sites while waiting. It was a surprise for us and difficult negotiating crowds to find an alternative to park and phone hotel. Then wait over an hour to park.We could have arrived later or parked stress free if directions had been supplied. Staff very helpful though.
We were at a concert in the Abbey so the location was perfect. It also had private car parking which after registering was free. The drinks were not overpriced in the bar. The room was warm and the bed comfortable.
It’s tired looking and could do with some TLC, especially in the public areas. Sadly doesn’t do breakfast, so had to forage elsewhere, luckily there are a couple of tearooms open and a Greggs nearby. Our room was at the front so a bit noisy until the pub closed. It was a warm sunny day so more than usual seated outside.

Very welcoming friendly staff. Quaint old building. Large comfortable and clean room.
I stayed for the weekend with my daughter and granddaughter in Family Room no 18, Room had been freshly decorated and was very pleasant , the beds were very comfortable, lovely duvets and pillows. A double glazing panel over the original window worked very well , could open for air but still very quiet. Found the room very quiet , although the bar was heaving both nights didn't hear a sound in the room ,must admit I was a bit worried after reading the review and knowing it was in a busy area but no worries at all . The bathroom all worked well with good shower although it could do with a bit of tlc. The staff were very friendly and helpful . All in all a lovely weekend , 25 mins to York . Would definitely stay here again , also has the lovely Abbey right next door .
Customer service at the hotel is exceptional.. Nick and Brendon were amazing!! Location is great too.. We definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again next year.. Thanks once again to Nick, Brendon and staff..
Breakfast would be nice bonus
The location was good for me
The property had a very neglected look from the outside, and although the room was clean and provisioned as described it was in need of a refurbished bathroom.
Breakfast not applicable. The booking advertised as food available so we booked on that understanding, they had no food available. If we knew this we wouldn't have booked
The bathroom was horrendous. Mould all around the shower, the flooring felt that it was so uneven you might put your foot through the floor, the sink had several large cracks in it, the towel rail dusty, wallpaper pealing off in bedroom.
The location was perfect and the staff were friendly and helpful . The shower was good.
The room in general needs an update. The shower panel was loose and the light above the sink didn’t work which made the bathroom very dingy. The worst thing though was by far the internet! The hotel internet didn’t work at all and all we could get was a general North Yorkshire connection and that was very sporadic as well. Even the TV constantly buffeted.
That it eas close to the Working area. Walking distance.
No facilities to warm food up.
That it was near to the work of place.
No microwave facilities . After a long day, it would be nice yo heat up our own dinners. Spending alot on takeaways.
Central
Payed for breakfast only to find out from night porter when we returned at midnight that they didn’t do breakfast anymore
Locatie
Douche was niet bruikbaar, personeel nam de klachten niet serieus. Kamer was zwaar verouderd, plafond liet los, ramen vielen er nog net nu uit.
Location
Everything went well and pleased to know evening meals will soon be available for my next visit.
Wonderful food! Great to see the restaurant booming again!
