Nico Lagoon Hotel

Lovely peaceful hotel right on the Negombo lagoon. This was the last hotel we stayed in during our 14 days in Sri Lanka and it was nice just to chill by the pool.

Great Budget-Friendly Stay Near the Airport We had a very pleasant stay at Niko Lagoon Hotel in Negombo. It is a great budget-friendly hotel, especially for travellers looking for a comfortable and peaceful place near the airport. The English breakfast was ok, and the Niko is always available, friendly, and ready to help with anything we needed. The hotel is located in a quiet and relaxing area, and the swimming pool near the lagoon was a wonderful feature. Overall, Niko Lagoon Hotel offers great value for money, good service, a peaceful atmosphere, and a convenient location near the airport. We would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Negombo!

Nico Lagoon is situated in a nice quiet area next to the lake. The rooms are clean and spacious and the small pool is lovely and clean - great for soaking away some of the heat. On arrival we were presented with a nice cool fruit juice, and the breakfast was filling and tasty (go for the Sri Lankan breakfast, not the Western one....). Nico himself is friendly and happy to explain the trials and tribulations of his hotel, and the whole hotel is peaceful. There is a bar located in the new restaurant that is being built (although we didn't actually use it so can't tell you what it is like - but it did seem popular with some of the locals). It is also within walking distance (just) of a few eateries such as Dutch Trails etc. Nico is also more than happy to arrange airport transfers. It is underneath the flight path - but it is not disruptive during the day and not noticeable at night.

Unfortunately when you turn up it feels like it is a bit of a building site - but, to be fair, we were out of season and works must be done sometime. However the rear of the hotel and around the new restaurant could maybe be a bit tidier. As we were out of season it is possible that some of the facilities were unavailable - I suspect that the water sport hire wasn't applicable, and the restaurant seemed for breakfast only. Having your own transport is a blessing here too (although presumably they can arrange a tuk-tuk etc if needed). Overall it feels like the hotel just needs that last push on the investment and building front, but this shouldn't put you off.

Important note. I did not stay overnight at this hotel but spent several hours there before my flight. I've rated it based on my expectations considering the price I paid. The pool was lovely and overlooks the lagoon. I also had a very pleasant lunch. Good WiFi and Aircon.

Only one towel was provided. No hand towel, no pool towel and no evidence of a hair drier. I actually would not have stayed the night having seen the state of the pillows on the bed.

Le cadre est magnifique avec la piscine et vu sur le lagon. La chambre est spacieuse conforme au photo. Petit déjeuner correct.

Je trouve dommage que les extérieurs de l'hôtel a l'entrée du terrain soit moins entretenu.

The location was good and the people were nice

I did not get breakfast and there was not really a reception to check in etc.

We really enjoyed our stay, specially my son had a whole lot of activities to keep him occupied.very hospitable staff specially Kaveesha who attended to us from the begining was very friendly and helpful.food was delicious, comfortable rooms with a lovely view .if you have teenage kids this is the place to go .overall it was a lovely stay hats off to the lovely staff at club palm.bay

Nothing at all

Nico and his team are great. I arrived a couple of days after Storm Ditwah and they had had some issues but worked hard to get everything ready for their guests. The team are know the local area and helped me book a train for my onward journey.

No he visa personal más amable que los de este hotel. Están súper atentos a lo que necesitas en cada momento. Te tratan como a una reina y con mucho respeto. Nada más llegar te reciben con un zumo de bienvenida. El sitio además es espectacular de bonito. 100% recomendable.

I was welcomed to nicos with a beautiful view of the pool and lagoon, Nico helped me with my heavy bag and gave me a welcome drink and I had a settled check in. The room was spacious and nice and cold! The breakfast was great! Lots to choose from and Nico catered to my needs as I had to leave early for my flight. Great place

we were the only guest for the whole hotel that night it was a bit spooky as the entrance to the hotel is not from main road and you will first see a broken old house before you see the hotel. the ambience and the feeling needs to be changed. Staff in itself was good but I only met one person as staff. it felt very odd like this as its not at all common for a Hotel. Room Cot and bed was not comfortable. Bathroom was clean.

We stayed at Nico Lagoon Resort in Negombo for one night as a group of 9 friends, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and made sure everything was perfectly arranged. The location is stunning ♥️ , right by the lagoon with peaceful views and a refreshing breeze, giving us the perfect escape from city life. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and all the amenities we needed. The peaceful ambiance and well-kept surroundings made it easy for everyone to relax and unwind. One of the highlights was the beautiful pool area – ideal for chilling out, having fun with the group, and taking plenty of great photos! The outdoor setting with the lagoon view made it even more special. The food was delicious local and international options, freshly prepared and served with care. We had a wonderful dinner and a satisfying breakfast the next morning, with plenty of variety for everyone. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, even helping us arrange a few extra things we needed for our group. Their friendliness and professionalism really made a difference. Overall, it was the perfect spot for a short getaway with friends – peaceful, clean, well-equipped, and very reasonably priced. We left with wonderful memories and would definitely recommend Nico Lagoon Resort to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in Negombo

This is blessed resort from Nature. Well maintained. staff is very friendly and attentive. Nico lagoon is well managed. We had a great time. The pool was amazing and the view was beautiful. It has a lovely ambience. No stress and no disturbance from the outer world. Prices are really reasonable and service provider is more than beyond that. Kudos to Sheehan who words there he takes care of all the guests and he does a honest job taking care and keeping everything running well smooth and making it the best memorable experience to all guests.

Nicos place was like a hidden gem. Very quiet and very friendly and laid back..lovely place to chill after a long flight. Nice place to eat further up the road called Dutch Trails.

Drunk manager and local crew made a lot of noise until 4 a.m.,you can hear sounds of every airplane like you’re sleeping next to the airport.charging like we are on the street market the prices in the menu were differnt from what they charged at the end.Dirty rooms.

The place is literally a building site, a complete mess. The food is a joke, the service is bad. The people are friendly but that about it. Terrible.

Service very poor.. made us pay for a key which was old and rusted as it broke... refused to give us even 10 min beyond 11 am...which seemed unfair when was relatively empty... charged us for toothbrush and toothpaste without telling us it would be charged.. quite disappointed..

Loved the pool and view. The one staff member who was around was helpful when you could find him.

No fridge in the room. The place was very understaffed and the food was not very good.

The only person who showed any kind of understanding or apology was a helpful young man at reception desk.

We stayed at Nico Lagoon Hotel in September 2024, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. We chose this hotel specifically because the listing mentioned an airport transfer service, but it turned out that they do not offer it. Despite inquiring both the day before and on the day of arrival, we didn’t receive the transfer, even when we were ready to pay for it. They left us stranded at the airport, and the hotel is a 30-40 minute drive away. When we finally arrived, late at night with my pregnant wife, the owner tried to explain that their “airport shuttle” mark on Booking.com doesn’t mean they provide a free or included service. Unfortunately, the room was also disappointing. It was hot, as the air conditioning barely worked, and the floor was uneven, making it easy to trip. WiFi was technically available, but completely unusable throughout our stay. The electrical condition of the room was poor – some light fixtures were hanging loose, and some power sockets didn’t work at all or switched off randomly. If we hadn’t arrived so late, we would have looked for another place to stay. After traveling around Sri Lanka for three weeks and staying in various accommodations, some with lower ratings, this hotel failed to meet even basic expectations. Apart from the nice pictures on Booking.com, the hotel didn’t offer much in terms of comfort or service. We’re hoping we can at least call a taxi in the morning, as we have no desire to even try the breakfast. Such a shame.

20 minutes from the airport. The hotel has a taxi service, too. You can take a tuk-tuk from the hotel to Negombo restaurant area close to the Negombo Beach. The hotel can arrange it for you. It takes 20 minutes. Breakfast was good. The hotel staff was excellent.

Nice place and friendly service

Found difficult to find the place.

The pool and lagoon views were amazing, and the big shrimp I had for dinner from the lagoon were delicious.

There were a lot of mosquitoes because it was right next to the lagoon, so it's a good idea to bring some insect repellent.

Not very clean , rooms tired , dirty matress , no sleep as noisy and banging all night , I was offered breakfast , thought complimentary due to no sleep but I had to pay , could only eat egg as gluten allergy and was charged £10 for them Disappointed

Location is Good But Staff,Room and the Food is very Very Bad.

location is good but other facilities are not enough as we expect . we got A/C room.But it’s like Non A/C Can’t increase.it Doesn’t work properly i complained About that and they said.A/C Machine Have a problem.Food Also Bad.

Lagoon

Towels were not clean. They charged us 3 percentage extra. Did not provide dinner . They gave a very simple English breakfast. Not enough toiletries. Not good .

This place is fabulous! Lucky is the best best hotel manager as no request is too much. The pool is heavenly and it is a short bus ride to Negombo. Love this place!

Lovely views, big room that was clean and very comfortable!

Would be nicer if there was more of a set up around the pool area to relax. The sunbeds are dirty and not comfortable at the moment.

The property overlooks an inland lagoon with a pool right next to it. The staff especially Lucky were helpful and welcoming.

Staff are excellent- Lucky pretty much helped me with anything I needed to know and arranged tours etc. The facilities- pool, breakfast balcony area. The location - beautiful.

The mosquitoes. But Lucky even had some Deet spray to help, sadly it was just too late for me, but this was my own fault.

Excellent staff with very high standards of service. Unfortunately our stay was too short and couldn't use the swimming pool. But maybe next time. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

perfect please , on the lake. the stuff is super friendly . good restraunt and service the owner provide as a kayake so we travel at the lake :)

Hotel need little love and upgrade

Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Did everything to make my stay pleasurable and helped with all my travel arrangements for my onward journey around Sri Lanka. I highly recommend. Nico and Lucky truly went out of their way to make our stay and our entire Holiday amazing.

nice quite place with beautiful view at the garden and lagoon from the restaurant. The food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was outstanding. Extremely nice and helpful host which made our stay a very enjoyable one.

good to know that you have to take a tuktuk to visit Negombo / Negombo beach.

It's a shame they don't offer breakfast before 7.30 am. If you have a mid-morning flight then you can't get breakfast. As proximity to the airport is its main advantage, this is disappointing!

The manager organised a morning tour of the town and markets for me by tuk-tuk...it was great ! :) Loved seeing the pelicans, fishermen and flying foxes in the evening over the lagoon.

Once confirmed the my reservation, finally property cancelled my booking without any confirmation from my end . Didn’t accept my early checking . They are trying to charge for Two nights.

Good for a short stay, food was good, tasty. Rooms are clean, and spacious. Location is a bit too far from everything, but just for the info - just check it on a map.

Everything was very good.

The hotel is by the lap of the beautiful lagoon and the swmming pool was adjacent to the lagoon. It was magical! More remmended to visit in full moon. The staff were so nice, room and bathroom was clean. It was nice staying there.

They didn't provide any blanket or comforter for the extra bed but the weather was pretty much cold. and we had to pay for the breakfast.
