I had a good discount when I booked. Room was well-maintained. Biscuits were nice.

No yorkshire tea and not enough milk.

Rooms are of a high standard, bar and restaurant are really good food was excellent. Breakfast as well. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in the Workington. Whitehaven area. Staff are really good.

A very nicely presented hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The room was modern and clean, and the view across to the mountains was particularly nice. Had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant - the food and service were all excellent - and the breakfast the next morning was good too. Would definitely recommend.

Only one thing: the bed/mattress was rock hard! I didn't complain at the time as I often have this problem away from home and assumed it was just me. However, my wife commented after we left that even she felt the same (and typically prefers a firmer mattress).

The bathroom floor didn’t look as though it had been cleaned after the previous occupants - there were brown/red sticky looking stains by the shower and under the sink and quite a few hairs by the bin and, although I asked at reception if there was anyone available to clean the room, unfortunately no one came which meant I left the hotel the next morning without being able to use the shower. I understand that sometimes things can slip through the net but it was disappointing that the room was given out in this state and that my request for cleaning wasn’t followed up.

We have enjoyed our stay at the Melbreak! We were group of 6 ladies sadly they didn’t have twin rooms available but dbl beds are wide enough so we shared the bed. Staff are marvellous! people at the reception are fantastic! People at the restaurant are brilliant! We were so happy to get away from London over the bank holiday! All our questions were answered we don’t needed spa or all sorts of things at the hotels normally ppl expect! We were looking for outdoor activities hiking rowing swimming and we did! We were so happy to stay at a fantastic melbreak with a brilliant location around Lake District!

Everything!. Breakfast, room and staff were superb, especially the lady at breakfast time. So hard working we thought there were two of her.

We had such a lovely weekend stay at Melbeck. The location was exactly what we wanted for a peaceful and quiet getaway in the Lake District. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming, and they went out of their way to accommodate my needs, which we really appreciated. Our room was lovely, spotless and very comfortable, and the shower was amazing — lovely and hot! Thank you for helping make our weekend away so enjoyable. We would definitely recommend Melbeck and would love to return!

The scenery around the hotel itself

The racist waiting staff who ignored me in the restaurant when I went for dinner, and then the management who tried to racially profile me and accuse me of smoking "a peculiar looking and smelling cigarette" even though they never called the police or mentioned this accusation until I wrote a formal complaint!

The bed was so big that we had to mail each other. Good parking and very quiet the whole time. We stayed in one of the suites so had a living room and the bedroom. In the middle of nowhere so only one pub within walking distance, but everywhere else a 10-15 minute taxi ride.

We absolutely adore the staff, fantastic team, very friendly and helpful. Exceptional breakfast, and the view with our morning coffee made our days. Thank you.

Stunning property!! Rooms were spacious and clean. Massive shower! Bed super comfy with extra pillows should you need them! The restaurant was to die for- the steak was wow cooked to perfection. Menu was small but had a bit of everything on it. Never booked for dinner before arriving but they managed to squeeze us in and accommodate us but we got lucky! Was great after a long drive down from Glasgow and some exploring of the local area. We will definitely be back!!!

The location - couldn’t walk to anywhere. Had to take the car if you wanted to leave the property. Paths only seemed to go on for a short duration before ending (in all directions). Thankfully there’s a fab onsite restaurant and bar or you’d need to drive for it. However, it is located a short drive away from places so not totally isolated.

Immaculate and good value for money

Chargers 203 & 204 did not work, probably just need a hard reset. Internet is restricted to 1mb/s for guests which is embarrassing for 2026. You can’t even get YouTube to load on the smart tv at that speed, please get on with the times. You have high speed internet already in the building, let guests have it too, again is 2026.

only thing wrong was my single bed only had three wheels and had to sleep tilted,later found it in top drawer needs sorting it had glue silicone all over it,just take other three wheels off or whack a book or 3x2 under it job done👌😀

Great location for visiting around the North Lakes. Had a lovely meal in The Conservatory. The breakfast menu and food are excellent. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful and polite. Highly recommend, we would deffinatley stay again. Great views from The Conservatory and outside garden.

Evening meal Steak pie was not as good as i had read in reviews , very dry and the outside was tough as if been in the fridge and dried out ,Pastry was rock hard . Breakfast not bad but most hotels give you back bacon not streaky .

Lovely hotel, very helpful staff. I had forgotten toothpaste and they provided me with a dental kit. The food in the restaurant was wonderful. Nice selection of gins at the bar. Bed was comfy.

Very noisy doors unfortunately. No soft closing on the bedroom or bathroom doors. Very noisy with other guests letting the doors slam shut. The curtains in the bedroom were not blackout.

Wij hadden de kamer met balkon en uitzicht op de bergen geboekt. Het bleek een Frans balkon, dus alleen naar binnen openslaande deuren. Voor het raam stond een hoge boom, waardoor het uitzicht wel beperkt wordt. Deze kamer ligt ook het dichst bij de doorgaande weg waaraan het hotel ligt. Verder een prima kamer! Met de ramen dicht valt het geluid van de weg ook wel mee. Prima restaurant. We waren wel blij dat we vooraf gereserveerd hadden! Er is buiten en binnen een gezellig zitje om wat te drinken in de bar.

Great location, great views. great staff, reasonably priced. Great choice of food and drinks. I booked late and took the suite. Accom was so good i tried to book another night, but the couple from the previous night had already had the same thought.

Great location, plenty of parking and overall very well maintained

Beds are so uncomfortable, we stayed for 3 nights and glad I did not book more as the beds are so uncomfortable, also not to knock it but pillows were not supportive and cheap and the bedding wasn’t the best.

We had a funeral to attend and needed an overnight stay. A family member recommended and from our arrival everything exceeded our expectations. Staff were so helpful and friendly We met the owner Ann who was fabulous. The room was so comfortable, in fact, my husband who loves a good breakfast, almost missed it as he was so comfortable in the bed. Location was perfect I’m a bit of a clean freak, I needn’t have worried, it was spotless. The whole experience was perfect. We will be recommending to all our friend and family and next time we are in the area we wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else Thank you so much We’ll be back 😊

Really enjoyed The Melbreak hotel. The staff were really warm and friendly. We rang them up to say we would be late and they were incredibly understanding. The room was comfy and the beds were super soft. It had everything you needed from an ironing board to a hair dryer, towels, tea/coffee etc. I purposely loved how quiet the corridors were, and even though we were close to a road we couldn't hear any cars at all.

Breakfast was only meal taken but judging from the great standard and presentation of both dining area and meal i would guess other meals would be of high standard. Very friendly staff and nice decor.

I would have liked more pillow choice in the bedroom and security lighting to be less directed at bedroom widow which lit up room even with curtains drawn. this floodlighting was positioned on some workshop outbuildings and could have operated from a motion detector but also pointed more to the parking area and not the back of the bedrooms. None of the comments are negative but only intended for management to take note as improvement towards excellence can only be reached by feedback.

For us it was really well located for anywhere in the lakes. Perfect hopping point.

Everything. If Carl's ergonomic made hotels....they'd have made this one (and the staff too) It was our wedding g anniversary which wasn't known until we arrived but staff looked after us amazingly. Facilties were excellent, drinks weren't expensive and the food was very good quality and delicious. Staff were always on hand an nothing was too much trouble. Parking is plentiful and there are security cameras dotted around the place so motorcycles would be safe too. The perfect stay all round. We are already talking about planning another trip to the Lakes in the summer and stopping here.

Nothing....there was absolutely nothing we didnt like and we can be very fussy if something triggers us.

The rooms themselves are lovely. Great views of the surrounding countryside, with the charming sight and sound of lambs and chickens from the nearby farms adding a real rural character to the stay. The beds were comfortable and the general ambience of the room was warm and welcoming — exactly what you’d hope for after a long journey. The receptionist was pleasant and friendly, though we weren’t asked about our stay — a small touch, but one that goes a long way in hospitality.

This is where I’d urge the hotel to pay closer attention. We noticed some brown staining on the bed sheet covers — not ideal, and something that should be caught before rooms are turned over. My wife also spotted spider webs and small spiders around the bathroom door and cobwebs near the shower enclosure. The kettle lid was a little dusty too, though a quick rinse sorted that easily enough. The rooms felt generally clean, but these details do leave an impression. Despite the shortcomings, we had a comfortable stay and would cautiously recommend Melbreak to others — particularly for its setting and character. A little more attention to the finer details of housekeeping and guest communication would easily make this a four or five-star experience.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

It was lovely to have the extra space. It was very comfortable accommodation but a walk-in shower would have been nice as well as the bath, Suitable for all ages and abilities. Food was excellent definitely 5*. Very friendly and helpful staff.

The room itself was lovely, decorated nicely and very clean. The bathroom was immaculate and the amenities were very good. We loved all the small touches like the complimentary biscuits and the facilities available in the room such as the iron, fan and hairdryer.

There was only one accessible plug socket in the room which wasn't close to the bed.
