It is the most fabulous place a little bit of heaven in the most beautiful place everything about it is just perfect the staff are helpful and friendly it’s luxury and comfort are just amazing
We had dinner and were just having some after dinner wine when we were asked to vacate the table for two people who wanted to eat. Unfortunately they didn’t order any food and just sat drinking a few pints for the evening. Not a nice way to be treated by hotel staff
This is a historic hotel with good size rooms and an amazing view of the harbour. Lots of history here, very good dining room with excellent food and service. The bar was friendly and service very good. The whole island was very interesting and there were many wonderful views of the hills and ocean. Many interesting shops here.
We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Valentia, to include dinner. A great stay with water view and a terrific meal in the restaurant. The lamb shank and hake were perfectly done. Great bar environment. Staff is terrific. Highly recommend a stay.
To be honest, the Royal Valentia leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know whether it was because we visited off season (October) but we were most definitely underwhelmed. We thought the hotel was grubby, the welcome at reception was poor (robotic), our room was dirty (corners not vacumned, cold tap ran hot, shower head needs replacing), the restaurant food was, at best, bar food quality, the restaurant service was poor (including forgetting part of our order). The breakfast was better, but again the staff were cold and uninterested. Overall, underwhelming and very very poor value for money.
Quaint hotel with nice view of the water. Close to our excursion at Skellig Michael the next morning. Quick breakfast and they opened early for us due to our early departure. Room was clean, bathroom layout was a little tight with door hitting the toilet.
Great location , but a very over priced hotel trading on past glory.
A long established premises with a diverse range of accommodation. Our room was a little dated but more than sufficed for one night. Breakfast was excellent with great service.
Good location,on the water
Loved staying there. Beautiful hotel. Lovely view. Easy check in, parking in front of hotel was free.
Beautiful old building, very clean and a friendly staff.
Very enjoyable stay in an historic hotel. Wonderful location, beside the pier where the ferry arrives. Cosmopolitan, with guests from different countries.
As a family spent every summer in this area, hidden gem of Kerry, loads to do and see. Royal Hotel in fabulous location, lovely views from the hotel. Hotel is full of history, beautifully maintained, staff very helpful and friendly. Great choice for breakfast. Great lunch and dinner menu. Lovely to have tea and coffee option in room. For those who know the area huge advantage to head off for the day snd have evening meal booked on return. Second time staying will be back.
Amazing location and great breakfast.
We stopped off here to have some food. It was one of the worst hotels, sticky tables not cleaned. No customer service. The staff looked absolutely miserable and made sure not to make eye contact. We sat at a table, and there was a smell of urine. The food was appallingly bad. The whole experience felt like we were back in the dark ages. Spend your money somewhere else. Will most definitely not be back.
This is a lovely hotel on Valentia Island. It is slightly old-fashioned and all the better for that. The room we stayed in was large with comfortable beds. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had dinner on the second evening and it was really good. The early sitting was a little noisy as we were there during school holidays.
Despite the fact that they advertise all rooms as being air-conditioned, we found out that this is not the case. The first room we were put in was not air-conditioned and when we went down and asked if another room was available, we were treated very rudely by the woman at the desk. She told us that an air conditioned room is a special request and we did not ask for that. After hauling all of our bags back down the staircase (there are no elevators), we were sent to another room where we had to haul all of our bags back up another staircase. At no time did any staff member offer to help with our baggage or apologize for the misunderstanding that they created. When it came time to check out they tried to bill me a second time for the room that had already been paid for on Expedia as well as the previous night's dinner that had been paid for at the table. We would not stay in this hotel again.
This hotel is in an amazing location on the Island of Valentia. The hotel is full of character and history. The staff here are fantastic and were very welcoming and nothing was a problem, they were always looking to help and ensured that we had everything we needed. The manager Guy really makes the place, he told us he has a great team of people and he also made it his business to chat with us along with other guests in the hotel, a real touch of class. Breakfast was really nice and a great selection was available for any fussy eaters. We ate in the hotel one of the nights and the food was fab, it is the best fish and chips I have ever had anywhere. Finally, great staff, location, food and great value for money which is hard to find anymore in Ireland. Well done Royal Hotel Valentia
Absolutely gorgeous island! Property was very nice as was the staff.
Great spot!
Came in a little late, but the staff was very kind and quite responsive to our needs. Even carried our bags up to our room and offered to see if the kitchen would stay open a little later to feed us! Room was lovely.
This hotel is like a home away from home. The staff are brilliant, the rooms are large and generous and the beds so comfortable. The food is just delicious and the atmosphere is one that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. 30 paces from the sea and you have a great swimming area near by. Its just a brilliant place to stay on Valentia.
Place was beautiful front desk lady the day we checked in was great. Food in restaurant was good. We had NO warm water for showers in the morning and the lady basically said sorry nothing we could do about it.
There was absolutely nothing about this property we did not like. It was our favorite of 12 different hotels we used during our travels. Beautifully decorated. Fantastic staff. Clean and quiet. And the food was the best we ate.
We had the most amazing stay . Welcome was so warm ( we even met the receptionist later on a walk and she stopped for a chat ) Room was lovely on the ground floor. Bed was so comfy and the food was fabulous and as there aren’t many restaurants the quality was exceptional and we ate here both nights-shout out to Michelle who is so efficient and friendly. Location is great -right on the harbour- we took our after dinner drinks outside to watch the sunset. Weather was fabulous and we were out all the time -we hired bikes south Kerry bikes which were delivered to the hotel but be warned the island is very hilly( the journey up from the lighthouse was tough but otherwise really nice to cycle . Lovely walk to Bray head to get some fabulous views. Geokaun is worth the climb. ( there is a loo here but you have to ask for key) and the cycle along the top road is beautiful. Lots to do and see -we really enjoyed our stay and would definitively come back.
Relaxed hotel in the center of town
10 of us ate in the bar - and were served by Michelle! Couldn’t be nicer and more accommodating! Can’t recommend enough! 10/10 - great food and vibes! Michele was amazing!
Fantastic service from Michelle, incredibly accommodating to our party of 10 and looked after us really well. Bríd also was so friendly and helped us decide on local attractions to visit during our stay. Fabulous hotel with lots to see around, would definitely visit again
Lovely olde worlde hotel with a great view. Restaurant was nice and the service was very good. Would recommend.
Very comfortable, food excellent
Nice place on Valentia Island with plenty of things to do around the island itself. The breakfast is amazing. Overall I love this hotel.
Could use an upgrade !
Old hotel that needs some updating. Wi-Fi is spotty. Our room looked over a roof that had equipment on it. No view at all. We still liked the place for its ambiance and pub
Stayed here for 2 nights recently. The woman on reception has been there for a while and is lovely to deal with, we have been before and were given a requested room. The breakfast is very good as is the dinner we ate there the two nights. The hotel is comfortable. The only little fly in the ointment is that the bar service is very slow. The barman disappeared at one point and no one else would serve or there is a queue at the bar and they are all cleaning behind the bar, no one serving.
Nice old hotel, well maintained with a nice view and good restaurant on the premises.
Great place to stay on Valentia Island to explore the region. Staff was outstanding. Breakfast and dinner the one night we ate there were delicious. It was a pleasant experience to stay in a hotel that has been in business for over 150 years.
came to valentia island with family for 3 nights, we went for drinks in the royal hotel was met with very rude customer service overall, food was very disappointing concidering the prices that are been charged. we felt as a family that they had no interest in tourists we rang the hotel on another occasion to ask a question about sports been played and we where talking to a very rude lady who hung up the phone after saying if it on its on and if its not its not.. will never again support this hotel.
View of the ocean
Although hotel was not at all full and had rooms facing the water i was given a room with one side window overlooking tbe kitchen roof and outhouses without a glimpse of the views. Food average pub food.
We went for a drink and Sunday lunch in the Royal Valentia today. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Michelle, Karen, Grainne, Brid and Sandra were just the best. We had the roast beef with all the trimmings which was delicious - well done chef's. Food is a little pricey but a lovely remote spot on Valentia Island and a little gem to have a cosy romantic lunch. Sit by the fire and chat to the locals or stroll by the seafront!!
The lady who served in the restaurant on Friday night was excellent.
Staying here was a fantastic experience. The hotel itself is old but clean and full of character. The location is so beautiful and peaceful. Staff were very friendly and helpful you couldn’t fault the service. Breakfast was delicious and the dinner was exceptional. The food is fresh, plentiful and good value for money. I would return for the food alone.
Self contained historic hotel. Wonderful staff in dining room . Enjoyable stay on the waterfront.
My wife and I stayed here for 1 night but wish we had booked more, a gem of an experience, an amazing welcome by the receptionist, fabulous staff in the bar and restaurant and, the food was some of the best that I have tasted. A quaint hotel that was housing quite a few out of county visitors, nothing was a problem for the staff. I would certainly recommend this as a quiet getaway.
looked after me really well, being a disabled person....🙂
Great property and value
Outstanding customer service at front desk. Original room was on second floor. Due to my problem with steps, they gladly changed us to a first-floor room.
Absolutely charming hotel with very responsive staff. It was the perfect relaxing spot to end our busy trip.
My friend and I stayed there for 3 days as our beginning point to visit Kerry and Dingle area. Although old, it has everything you need, rooms are not very spacious, but the bathroom is modern and with all the facilities. Situated by the harbour, you are close to the nice walking by the sea. We’ve also had dinner there, and it was very good! The breakfast is including, you get large irish one, all kind of cereals. The only minus was for the not so nice salami and cheese you can get if you don’t fancy irish breakfast. Would come again!
Lovely hotel in a beautiful part of the world
Nice setting in a historical area. Although the hotel dates back to 1830’s, they have a nice setup for visitors to enjoy.
Charming sea-side hotel located at the end of the island. Our morning included a wonderful Irish breakfast.
Delightful classic hotel with excellent food.
Overall a very good experience. Only complaints would be a bed mattress that was on the stiff side and a very very noisy exhaust fan in the bathroom. The surroundings on the peninsula were off the hook beautiful and don’t leave without driving out to the lighthouse.
This is an old but wonderfully restored hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable with everything needed including shampoo, safe, and hair dryer. It had unique spaces like a small sitting area with a beautiful view of the harbor. As one would expect with an older hotel the walls are thin so I could hear all the happenings from the bathroom next door. You may want earplugs if that bothers you. The mattress is a little old and thin but the bedding was soft and comfortable. They have a full restaurant with a good variety on the menu including vegetarian options. There are few choices in town other than here to eat but it’s not far to other towns with more options. The evening staff at the restaurant seemed to be a bit overwhelmed so service was slow. Morning was much better. There is a beautiful hike in town to Bray Head with amazing cliff views of the ocean. I highly recommend this hike if you are able to do a somewhat strenuous 1.5 mile uphill climb on a well maintained road/trail. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely return.
Beautifully located on the shore line in Valentia island this is a fantastic location for food and drink and even has beds if you want to stay the night! it also has a kids menu for food, the main menu is typically pub grub and portion sizes are plentifull.
Staff was great and they assisted with any issue we had.
Just spent 2 nights in Royal Hotel Valentia. Lovely place to stay, great location and food excellent. Staff were very helpful and made our visit all the more enjoyable. So much to do on the Island and nearby. Brid, at reception really helped with planning walks and recommendations for where to visit. We had a lovely room facing out to sea and the bed was very comfortable. Recommend a visit to Royal Hotel Valentia....will definitely be back
Great little village and harbor setting. Staff (Vincent) went above & beyond in fixing a left-behind item.
Had a fantastic time at the Royal Valencia Hotel. Got upgraded to the four poster bedroom for two days because of a plumbing problem in our room. Gorgeous view at the front across the bay. Breakfast was good, maybe keep an eye on items running out. Dinner was lovely, staff very friendly and helpful. Got to land on Skellig Michael which was our intended trip, brilliant.

Our large group was here cycling through the ring of kerry and dingle peninsula and stayed multiple nights. Very nice hotel, comfy and clean rooms, incredibly friendly and helpful staff and ownership! Right off the pier from the ferry. Wonderful breakfast and great and tasty restaurant attached. I would love to return and highly recommend!
Beautiful views from a room, restaurant and near hotel.
Great food, both breakfast and dinner. Good location for Skellig traips as long as you have a car, 10 min drive from Portmagee. Room decent space for travelling (room for cases). Toiletries provided. Good buzz in bar and good choice of beers, nice seat outside overlooking the inlet.
Very good hotel, stayed for two nights. There is limited hospitality options in the area so you do need a good hotel. Food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner with some outdoor seating looking over the sea. Normal menu with specials available each day. Good buzz in their bar, decent choice of beers, pale ale on tap, lovely coffee. Room had enough overspill space for cases. Comfortable bed, toiletries provided, lots of free parking ardoun the hotel. Handy for Skellig as long as you have a car - 10min drive into Portmagee. Friendly team of staff generally. Would return.
Wonderful, historic hotel. The hotel was busy but we felt like we were off the beaten path. Comfortable rooms, lovely staff, and great restaurant. While you're staying, definitely take the ferry across to O'Neills The Point Seafood, hands down the best meal we had in Ireland (it's right off the ferry so walk on and walk off). Also worth walking down the road to see the Transatlantic Cable Museum, taking a drive up Geokaun Mountain and stopping at Valentia Ice Cream.
I have just spent a wonderful three nights at The Royal Valentia Hotel . The hotel is a beautiful old building with all modern amenities and faces Valentia harbour . The food was fantastic and service in the restaurant was superb with very attentive, friendly and welcoming staff. Brid in reception looked after me from the minute I made my booking and throughout my visit and Mags on reception was also very helpful and welcoming. Thanks to all the wonderful staff. I'll definitely be back!!
An amazing hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful!
Great staff.
My wife and I were married last year in the Royal and it was such a brilliant experience. From the instant that we met the staff to walk around the hotel, we knew that the Royal was the place in which we wanted to get married. It has such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that put us at ease. We had many zoom calls, phone calls and meet ups and the staff were always so kind, engaging and respectful throughout. In the run up to the wedding itself, our tastings were very constructive and the chef welcomed feedback which was very helpful for us and the food/wine that we would like, which was important to us. In the week of the wedding, the staff gave us great access to the function room and we were able to spruce up the room in our own personal way. They also did such a brilliant job setting up the room and tables, they looked gorgeous. Everyone at the wedding commented on how lovely the staff were, how beautiful the venue was and how tasty the food was (particular shout out for the scallops which were out of this world). The second day was also delightful and the hotel was flexible about the start time of the BBQ and weather depending whether people could sit inside or outside. Again, it was such a reassuring thing and we were so grateful. We couldn’t recommend the Royal enough as a venue to get married in. Thanks again for all our wonderful memories from the weekend. Míle buíochas ó chroí, Barra agus Kate
Friendly staff. Excellent food the hotel. hotel had a lot of charm. Will stay again at this hotel.
This is the second time myself and my family have stayed at the royal hotel valentia. I didn't realise my mistake until my daughter had reminded me of the hotel from 2 years ago. As soon as you walk into the reception area, you get a smell of mould and dampness. It's a very powerful smell and you cant miss it as it hits you as soon as you arrive. Not only is it foul, it is extremely dangerous for the hotel staff and residents. The room itself was alright, however there was a thick layer of dust all over the bathroom. If you are a light sleeper, think again about getting a goodnights rest. You can hear absolutely everything that goes on around you in the other rooms, a cough, sneeze, flushing the toilet. We were also awake till 2-3am as you can hear perfectly the music they play down stairs off a speaker and the other residents laughing and talking. I went down around 1 am and there was no night staff on the desk. On top off all that, we had dinner down in the lounge. When I ordered a bottle of wine, the wine came opened. When I questioned our waiter, Sasha, she didn't seem to have an answer and went and got another bottle. For our starter we ordered the brei to share. The brei came out drowning in jam, and had an off putting smell. When we complained that there was a smell and it was drowning in jam and we didnt like it, Sasha was smirking and replied 'well some people do' and walked away. I find that very hard to believe. She didn't let the manager know we were unhappy and nobody came to ask us how everything is. For the mains we ordered fish and chips and the burger. They were both nice, however a little too greasy. Even the burger bun was greasy. Once our plates were cleared away, a young bartender with black hair came over and took my empty wine glass and the bottle without asking if we were done or if we wanted another one. The staff are rude and incompetent. I would recommend staying in a B&B instead.
This hotel was in an incredibly beautiful area. The seafood chowder at the restaurant was the best of our trip! Great history! Great community.
Excellent stay. Friendly staff. Had a lovely dinner and breakfast.
This is a three star and it’s safe and clean. Very tight and small, breakfast is ok, no biggy. There are not too many places around as this is a small town but quaint.
Listed building. Probably needs some touch up. Because of its age, could hear other rooms and footsteps all around. Surrounding was very very quiet… empty houses and nothing much else.
Stayed here for two nights, the rooms and beds are comfortable, the bathroom was a good size and spotless. We had breakfast and dinner here and the food is very good, the staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again, it's good value
It was alright. Four pouster could do with a sand and paint, no bathtub was available, pictures of Tassimo machine in Superior room but none was found. Staff were nice.
We had to wait quite a bit to check in, there was no one at the front desk. We were also told there was no breakfast until 8am, but others were in eating before that. Cleanliness no the best, bathroom floors were dirty. Very charming though, some other flaws that are to be expended with the age.
Very nice old building. Great view of the bay. Staff was very friendly
Invest in better pillows.
Nice hotel!
Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Great location.
My family and I loved the Royal Valentia Hotel. The staff could not have been nicer and were so helpful during our stay. The hotel has been lovingly restored and the rooms were spacious and well appointed. The pub/restaurant attached to the hotel was one of our favorites on our trip. It had such a positive feel and to us was the quintessential of all good things Irish. Our stay at the Royal Valentia was absolutely perfect!
This is a charming property. Conveniently located, with a wonderful restaurant and views of the mainland and bay. Reservations are usually required at the restaurant; the food was good. Our room, on the first level, was oddly shaped and likely renovated from a previous life as a side entrance. It was awkward and the noise level from adjoining rooms was not pleasant. We listened to the next door guest snore all night
Nice hotel and central to Dingle peninsula attractions
FANTASTIC LOCATION. FOOD WAS EXCELLENT. FORGOT MY PHONE CHARGER, NO PROBLEM TO THE RECEPTIONIST, SHE USED HER CHARGER, THANK YOU (BLONDE LADY, SORRY, CANT REMEMBER THE NAME)
Beautiful location and friendly staff
Very helpful gentleman on reception when we arrived who helped with our case. Ate in the hotel. Early bird menu, excellent value and absolutely delicious. Chowder and salmon.
Amazing location, very friendly staff, and a great pint!
Was there two years ago and was excellent. This time service was very poor had to keep asking for our drinks, waiting along time for food to arrive. Room not very clean, broken toilet seat, toilet rolls no better than tissue paper. Windows didn’t close properly, general cleanliness of room not great. And noisy generator out side our room. On checking out ‘ no one asked how are stay was. I won’t be returning . Danny oflaherty
Nice location, heritage building
Seemed a great location close to ferry . A nice view of the harbour but let down by the room . A small room with a tiny bathroom . It was a little dated and the furniture didn't fit its purpose- the mirror on the chest of drawers was too low to use with out bending down . The food in the restaurant was ok but nothing special.
Fabulous location. Great views.
Great weekend
I wouldn't class this as a hotel, more as a guesthouse. Check in was only available up until 9pm and on our booking it says if you arrive after 9pm, you'll have to find alternative adcomodation! Lucky we arrived in the middle of the day! There was no room service available to the room as "there wasn't enough staff on", however the food in the bar was very tasty. The rooms were basic and average enough. The double bed was very small and not a great mattress, so not a great sleep had, they could do with an upgrade of hotel standard mattresses. There was no bath in the room and the towels would barely fit on us, more like one you'd use to dry your hair, certainly not bath size! Also, there was 1 small tube of cheap hair/body wash per person. No lotion, conditioner etc. This was our 3rd "hotel" to stay at whilst doing the Ring of Kerry, but was the least appealing. Even if we paid €100 for it (and that was without breakfast), I'd expected a bit more, luckily it was only a stop off for 1 night. Disappointing!
The hotel had a lovely location, lovely views. The room was spotlessly clean. The staff were polite and very obliging. The meals were very good. There is nothing I would complain about. I would stay there again.
Lovely island to visit. Hotel was clean but a little cold. Was a one night stay didnt have dinner or breakfast.
Great location. Room was really big. Awesome view. Friend atmosphere and great that they had vegetarian sausages for breakfast.
Staff were very friendly and helpful Location and food were excellent The room was comfortable Behind locker was not cleaned which we had to move to get tv to work
